I think he will die.... It's too weird for me to think that Luffy would ultimately return the straw hat and even more ridiculous: fight Shanks. Shanks should get killed by Blackbeard at some point...All the more reason for Luffy to face Blackbeard, who always seemed like he was made to be the ultimate boss...

I feel he will either die before Luffy brings it back or just leaves it with Luffy so that Luffy will pass it on like shanks and Roger or fights Luffy or before his death he will give the straw hat to luffy
