When did kaidou ever mention shanks could fight him on par

You can't say that if you haven't even seen him fight before, kid isn't that strong to be honest he didn't even see shanks face and lost and arm what is shanks ganna do to him

If Kid beats shanks after all these years of hyping him up, and Shanks ultimately has no major impact on the end of the story, THAT would be bad writing.

Best case scenario for Kid and the story, there’s some kind of interference and they don’t finish the fight.

They weren’t all equal, but they could at least like, clash and hold their ground for a little while. Kid can’t do that

Weaker characters clash with much stronger characters all the time. Crocodile clashed with mihawk, jinbei with akainu, Vista with mihawk, chopper with big mom, crocodile with doflamingo, Lucci with gear 5 luffy etc...
