Alabasta was huge and they had no quick way of traversing so yeah the too long part is valid, but I don't really remember any "you thought I died" scenes except Pell, which they don't learn until later.

There was no scenes for that. It’s just that it looked like so many people died in that arc, but they didn’t! 😭🙏

I thought Whiskey Peak was mid, but if you say that the canon filler that only has Aokiji's introduction as a goodish part called Long Ring Long Land is good. Personally, I kind of liked thriller bark because zombies. Reverie was pretty good just short and it was a good break from Mid Cake Island (I REALLY hate Sanji) Little Garden was boring and Jaya, I didn't like it either
