As most of you know, there have been so far three dubs of the One Piece anime.
.The current and more recent Funimation dub
.The lesser-known Odex dub (which was the first English dub of the anime)
.The more well-known (and infamous) 4Kids dub
But most people don't know that there was actually gonna be FOUR English dubs, and this one was originally gonna be the first one....
The dub I'm talking about is the Ocean Dub.
Most of you anime fans are probably familiar with Ocean Productions, but for those who don't, they're a voice acting company based in Vancouver, Canada. They're most well-known for their anime dubs.
These include Hamtaro, Cardcaptors, Mobile Suit Gundam, Black Lagoon, InuYasha, Death Note, Gintama, and of course, the very first English dub of Dragon Ball Z!
Sometime in the early 2000s, I guess about 2001 or 2002, Toei Animation commissioned three separate English dub pilots, with the first of these three being from Ocean Productions, while the latter two were from Blue Water Productions (another dubbing company in Canada), and the anime's eventual dubbers Funimation.
The Ocean Dub pilot is partially lost, with only two short clips of it existing on YouTube, and there's not whole lot of information about it, apart from a few voice actors.
The most notable roles from this dub were with the first three Straw Hats.
Luffy was voiced by Andrew Francis, Zoro was voiced by Sam Vincent, and Nami was voiced by Jillian Michaels.
But apart from them, there's no information on who would've voiced the other Straw Hats. However, there is a little video on YouTube called "What If Ocean Productions dubbed One Piece". The video is basically like a fandub, except using lines from voice actors who would've been good choices for the characters. Nami and Zoro are in the video and voiced by their previously mentioned actors, but Luffy is voiced by Saffron Henderson. Apart from them, the only other characters in this video were Sanji (being voiced by the late Kirby Morrow) and Buggy the Clown (voiced by Michael Dobson).
Well that's about it. I'm glad I got to share this with you guys and I wanna hear you thoughts on what this Ocean Dub could've potentially be like.
Who would be the voices for the other Straw Hats? What channel would it be on? And would it be better then the Odex and 4Kids Dub?
