Weaker characters clash with much stronger characters all the time. Crocodile clashed with mihawk, jinbei with akainu, Vista with mihawk, chopper with big mom, crocodile with doflamingo, Lucci with gear 5 luffy etc...
Shanks getting defeated doesn't automatically put him out of the story lol.
I'm not saying kid is going to beat him. They'll probably fight for a while (equally) and then someone or something interferes.

Yeah that was a single clash, not really a feat to scale him. Both of them weren't trying.
Oda putting kid against shanks just for him to lose badly once again would be horrible writing.
Shanks is the weakest yonko though. He isn't on par with the others (og 4). Law is currently fighting Blackbeard on equal footing and kid is pretty much his equal.
I know you guys like shanks and all, but claiming shanks has better "feats" is wrong.
