S/o to this guy who came up with a wild theory that is spot on! I am starting to believe that instead of 12 members and a captain the crew might only have 10 and a captain. And this definitely confirms Yamato joining the crew. READ THE CORRECTION I ADDED AT THE END AND YOU’LL SEE AS WELL!
“Slainer 2y SPOILER
The Final Member of the Straw Hat Pirates
Theory
After watching the anime through Punk Hazard, and reading the manga up to date to the Wano arc, I have been thinking a lot about each member of the Straw Hat crew, especially to how they fit in to the overall story. While Luffy often jokingly invites cool looking people to the crew, it seems as the members of the Straw Hats are predisposed to be together by fate. Each member refused to (or could not) join at first, but eventually fate came around to unite them together. This has been seen with every crew member. While it has loosely been proposed before, I believe that the structure of the Straw Hats has to do with the seven deadly sins, and the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Let me explain.
Starting with the crew members we know of, each character has been introduced with some hilarious fault or deep challenge in the beginning of their development. While they might not be the only people to exhibit their particular sin, it definitely characterizes them, especially more than the other members of the Straw Hats.
Luffy eats a lot, therefore he is gluttony. Zoro sleeps a lot, therefore he is sloth. Usopp lies and strives to be a warrior of the sea, therefore he is pride. Nami is obsessed with money, so she is greed. Sanji is obsessed with women, so he is lust. Chopper just wanted to be human like the citizens of Drum Island (and strong like many of the other members of the Straw Hats), so he is envy. Franky would go on fits of rage that terrified the island and is a weaponized cyborg, who worked in proximity to the plans of warship Pluton, so he is wrath. Those are the seven deadly sins; gluttony, sloth, pride, greed, envy, wrath. From thereon, we have three other members, who I believe represent one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse: Robin, whose mere existence was a threat to the World Gov't and each crew she belonged to met an untimely end, is pestilence; Brooks, whose soul came brought his body back to life, is death; and Jinbei, whose lifelong goal is to stop the war between fishmen and humans, is war. Pestilence, death, war - that only leaves famine.
That being said, if you attempt to speculate who the next member of the Straw Hats will be, who is the most prominent character we have seen that is extremely hungry, possesses a great power, and would make an excellent addition to the rugged cast of the Straw Hats - perhaps even in the conclusion of the Wano arc? Kozuki Momonosuke, the terribly hungry child who consumed Dr Vegapunk's 'failed' devil fruit - allowing him to turn into a dragon much like Kaido; the heir to the Kozuki family, commander of the Mink Tribe, who has the voice of all things, and once met Gol D. Roger. This ties up the Wano arc nicely, reintroduces the mysterious Dr. Vegapunk, and finishes out the four horsemen hypothesis, which summons apocalypse - the Straw Hat pirates destroying the World Government once and for all, and Luffy becoming King of the Pirates.
If not him, what other character have we seen that could fit the bill of famine?
Edit: I think O-Tama is a good fit for the bill as well for much of the same reasons Momo is.”
That was a little long but I didn’t want to change any of the original post due to copyright lol. If you guys are thinking what I’m thinking then you know where I’m going with this. YAMATO! She is the horsemen of famine! Wano is built on the system of some having all the food while others have none and starve to death or eat smile and drink toxic water. Yamato in her dialogue with Kaido reveals that she herself ate the Dog devil fruit ONLY BECAUSE SHE WAS HUNGRY! Imagine in the future Yamato’s backstory shows that Kaido starved her or she willingly starved herself to be like the starving citizens. Metaphorically she is also starving for an identity and purpose. The mantle Oden fell on her lap during a tough time and Kaido forces his own purpose for her on her. She couldn’t set sail with Ace and has had to starve for her freedom. Look, she already invited herself onto the crew like all the female members do, is helping fight the straw hats’ enemies, and has a reason to see One Piece but now we can see that the starving narrative surrounding her introduction has been a part of the outline.
NOW—— Another correction I want to make is that the first four additions to the crew are sins that are not addressed but are only comical. The next six from the grand line and new world including Yamato are sins and horsemen that have or will overcome their sin or horseman plague. What do I mean by this? Chopper who thought he was a monster and wanted to be a reindeer or a human now wants to be a monster for Luffy’s sake. Robin who was thought to be a burden now says she has friends who are strong enough to protect her, trusts them, and is glad that they rely on her as well like when Black Moria said she will always be a burden but Robin told her that she couldn’t understand. Franky was just thrown over a pirate ship without any remorse by his parents and doesn’t even care about his name enough to keep it. This explains his angry personality early in the story but it’s revealed later that he is actually a softy. Then when he learns to build he only makes Battle Franky BATTLE ships instead of sailing ships. But when he gets Tom in trouble he stops permanently except for himself and the sunny. He ran street gangs but only to clean up the streets of water seven that Tom loved. He has the blueprints for Pluton in his mind with master shipwright skillz making him an ancient weapon in himself but is dedicated to only using that destructive power to protect the world from those kinds of weapons like the shipwrights of water seven wanted. Brook who lost his life, friends, shadow, and will to live. Has revived from the dead with power ups, new friends, his shadow, and is “very happy to be alive” and if I’m looking to deep into it, he has literally resurrected from the dead! Jimbei hated humans and joined the fish men royal army then fought along fisher tiger but after seeing that even humans were suffering as slaves and after saving them at the Holy Land he become more understanding. He refused to be vengeful like Arlong and wants peace not war between humans and fish men. Yamato by defeating Kaido will end starvation in Wano, free her from him, and her devil fruit she ate because she was hungry is helping her do it. Thanks guys, peace ✌🏾
