Bunbuku is a teapot owned by Tenguyama Hitetsu that was given life by "eating" the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Tanuki.[2]
Appearance[]
Bunbuku is a fairly big teapot adorned with dots around the middle. With its Devil Fruit transformation, it has a tanuki's head where its spout should be, a striped tail replacing the handle on the opposite side, and it is supported by tanuki legs at the bottom.[1] The sclera of its eyes are yellow in the manga,[3] but white in the anime. It is always seen stood or seated on a large, flat, fleshy sack, which does not usually appear connected to it.
Personality[]
Bunbuku is typically extremely quiet and sedentary.[1] However, it does seem to care for its owner's ward Tama, as it expressed surprise upon hearing that she had gone far away.[4]

Hitetsu[]
Before eating the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Tanuki, Bunbuku was carefully used as a teapot by Hitetsu. Due to Hitetsu's esteem for it, they are close, and Bunbuku has been the swordsmith's pet since it acquired its ability to transform into a tanuki.[2]

Being a teapot, Bunbuku is capable of storing tea and other liquids.[1]
Devil Fruit[]
Bunbuku "ate" the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Tanuki, a Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows it to transform into a tanuki. This fruit caused Bunbuku to become a living creature.[2]

At some point, Bunbuku gained the powers of the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Tanuki through unknown means, causing it to become alive.[2]
Wano Country Arc[]
When Tama brought Monkey D. Luffy back to Tenguyama Hitetsu's home in Amigasa Village, Bunbuku watched as Tama made and served Luffy all of her rice.[1] After Tama fell ill, Bunbuku stood at her side.[5]
After an injured Tama was returned, Bunbuku sat and watched as Hitetsu thanked Chopper and some of the minks for treating Tama.[6]
After Tama, Kiku, Momonosuke, and Chopper left the village to go for a walk to Kuri Beach, Bunbuku listened as Hitetsu spoke to them through a Smart Tanishi.[4]
Trivia[]
- Its name comes from "Bunbuku Chagama," a Japanese folktale about a tanuki that turns into a teapot.
- It was revealed that Bunbuku appears seated on its own testicles.[2] This is a reference to the large scrotum that is traditionally associated with the tanuki as a yokai.
- Even though Bunbuku is originally a teapot, after "eating" the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Tanuki, it cannot be used to boil water, as it will be hurt from the fire.[2]
- Bunbuku is the only canon Zoan-powered object so far who is not a weapon.
- This character shares similarities with the non-canon character Pato, with both coincidentally being inanimate non-weapon objects that ate tanuki Zoan devil fruits, though Pato's is one of a fictional monster rather than the real life animal.
