Arlong Park was the Arlong Pirates' base of operations. It was located on Conomi Islands. This building, boasting several stories and their Jolly Roger at the top, was conspicuously placed at the coast to show that they had no fear of the law.[1] The entire building was destroyed by Luffy's Gomu Gomu no Ono, smashing Arlong through five stories downwards.[2]
Layout and Locations[]
Arlong Park was built on the coastline, near the ocean, east of Cocoyasi Village[3] where the pool on the outside was linked to the outer seas, for Momoo to go in and out of, with a pair of steel gates that kept it closed. Nami's charting room was on the higher floors of the building, later being destroyed by Luffy during his fight with Arlong. Arlong Park's design overall resembled Sabaody Park, a similarity Nami noticed. This was due to the crew's childhood desire to become accepted into the human society, and to reflect the cruelty of Sabaody Archipelago's slave-trade.[4] The building itself was modeled after the main building in Sabaody Park and contained two notable rooms.
East Gate[]
The East Gate is the only entrance from the island and was surrounded by paddy fields.[5] It was destroyed by Monkey D. Luffy.[6]
Weapon Room[]
The weapon room, on the first floor, where Zoro's Wado Ichimonji was kept when he was captured, until it was returned to him by Nami;[7] it is also where the Kiribachi, along with several katana, were kept.[8]
Map Room[]
The map room, on the top fifth floor, where Nami was forced to make maps for the pirates, and Arlong intended to keep Nami in the room for the rest of her life. Luffy could sense the sadness Nami suffered in the room, and that the pen she used was bloodied.[9]
History[]
Past[]
Arlong Park was based on Sabaody Park, which Arlong, Hatchan, Chew, and Kuroobi as kids had admired and envied because they were barred for being Fish-Men.[10] 10 years ago, Arlong took his pirate crew to the East Blue on an island called Cocoyasi Village beginning his plan to conquer and rule over humans.[11] He started by extorting money out of the residents of Cocoyasi Village. Adults had to pay 100,000 and children had to pay 50,000, or they would be executed by Arlong's men. Bell-mère attempted to stop Arlong but was forced into making a sacrifice so she decided to pay for Nami and Nojiko (her adoptive daughters) and sacrifice herself. Arlong shot her in front of her children as an example of disobedience.[12]
Afterwards Arlong discovered Nami's talents of drawing maps and made her his subordinate by force as well as the crew's mapmaker. He falsely promised her and her village's freedom if she collected 100,000,000 for him for the next 8 years. During this time, Arlong set up his domain on Cocoyasi Village, with a number of smaller villages in the vicinity under his control. Arlong dismantled his original galleon and used the materials to build Arlong Park, an eight-story building that served as his headquarters. From Arlong Park, Arlong hoped to conquer all of East Blue using superior underwater tactics through maps drawn by Nami that charted underwater terrain.[13]
Arlong Park Arc[]
Monkey D. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp attempted to rescue Nami from her captivity of the Arlong Pirates. Luffy defeated Arlong and destroyed the map room that Nami had spent years stuck in, as well as destroying the park's building as a whole.[14] The Marines arrested the Arlong Pirates, with only Hatchan managing to escape.[15]
