The Aro Aro no Mi is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that grants the user the ability to generate and control tangible vectorial arrows capable of manipulating motion and its properties, making them an Arrow Human (矢印人間, Yajirushi Ningen?, VIZ: "Arrow-Woman"). It was eaten by Manmayer Gunko.[2]
Etymology[]
- "Aro" comes from Arō (アロー?), the Japanese pronunciation of "Arrow" in English.
Strengths and Weaknesses[]
This fruit's power enables the user the ability to generate arrow-shaped strips from their body that can be freely controlled around in a telekinetic manner. Those strips behave akin to floating bandages growing out of the user, who is capable of detaching them off through a chopping motion and then directing their trajectory through a variety of hand gestures. Despite being tangible objects, the arrows are nearly indestructible[3] and cannot be moved through external physical force,[4] meaning only the user themself has the power to alter their direction.

Thanks to their sharp, elongated shape, the arrows offer myriad combat uses: piercing projectiles fired from their hands in a manner akin to gunfire,[5] tridimensional stakes capable of pinning opponents to the ground,[6] and constricting weapons by wrapping the strips around a target's limbs or neck and then applying a powerful contracting force, a technique that may deal crippling or even fatal damage (suffocation). Those who get bound by the arrows also become susceptible to being carried around by the user's telekinesis, with the target's size and weight doing little to slow down the arrows' pulling force.[7]
Gunko uses her arrows to shape a flyable bird-like construct.
Furthermore, since the arrows behave like solid objects, they can be combined around to form more complex constructs. This includes handheld weapons like lances[8] or even enormous gauntlets and boots, giving the user's limbs enough extra power and size to injure even a large and resilient giant.[9] Aside from combat-related purposes, this application may also work as as a convenient means of transport, by constructing a bird-shaped platform for the user and other passengers to board and fly through the air.[10]

The arrows have the additional ability to affect movement and its properties. By having their physical attacks follow the direction of the arrows that they set up beforehand, the user is able to apply extra velocity and momentum to their own strikes, considerably enhancing the force of impact.[9] Similarly, for defense, the user can redirect enemy attacks targeting them back to the source or towards a different target through an u-turning arrow.[11] This motion-manipulating attribute also has utility in transportation; if large enough, arrows are capable of forming solid pathways for the user or anyone else to walk or skate over them (ignoring surface friction in the latter case). Those who end up caught on an arrow path will continue moving involuntarily towards the designated direction and unable to stop or change course, unless the user allows otherwise.[12]
In spite of its diverse applications, most of the user's techniques must be telegraphed through said arrows beforehand, giving an opponent a chance to predict and react to their next move. The user is also affected by the standard Devil Fruit weaknesses.
Usage[]
Gunko uses arrows to direct, augment and telegraph her attacks.
Gunko primarily uses this fruit for combat and torture, showing tremendous skill and variety with it. Her modus operandi involves wrapping targets with her arrows and constricting them with strong compressive force, delivering agonizing crushing pain to those caught by her ability. She usually does this when her demands are not met and she loses her patience, forcing her to employ more brutal methods.[1][9] Gunko has excellent close-combat skills, which she uses in tandem with her Devil Fruit to augment the power of her strikes through increased acceleration and extra mass granted by her arrow constructs.[13]

Furthermore, Gunko is capable of controlling the movement of individuals with her arrows, using them as a form of guidance to force them to go wherever she wants, while the targets are unable to break free on their own. During the plan to kidnap the students of the Walrus School, Gunko was able to combine her ability with those of her fellow Knights Shepherd Sommers (Iba Iba no Mi) and Rimoshifu Killingham (Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Kirin), allowing them to create a scenario favorable to their own. While Sommers and Killingham utilized their powers to prevent interference from the locals, Gunko became responsible for guiding the children proper toward a ship in order to complete the hostage situation they designed.[14]
Techniques[]
Gunko using "Aloe".
- Aloe (
矢印縁 , Aroe?, literally meaning "Arrow Fate"): Gunko extends strips from her sleeves, taps her targets with these strips, and then creates arrows that redirect her targets' attacks. This was first seen used against Jinbe and Brook to make them hurt each other.[15] The name of the technique is likely a pun on aloe and "Arrow".
History[]
At least 38 years ago, Gunko had eaten the Aro Aro no Mi.[16]
Trivia[]
- Gunko's usage of her powers are sometimes accompanied by black flames, similar to those associated with Imu and the Five Elders' abilities. It is unknown if this implies a connection between their powers, is a property of the Aro Aro no Mi, or is something else entirely.
