The Barrels Pirates[2] was a pirate crew led by Diez Barrels.[1]

Crew Strength[]
The crew possessed enough strength to amass a great amount of treasure and even somehow acquire the Ope Ope no Mi, but not wishing to use its power (apparently not knowing its ultimate ability to grant eternal life), they intended to sell it for 5,000,000,000.[3] However, they were incapable of keeping it from being stolen by Donquixote Rosinante, and they were nowhere near strong enough to challenge Doflamingo and his crew, leaving them at the complete mercy of the mighty broker.[4]
Barrels' son, Dory was noted by his father to be the strongest member of the crew, but weak in fortitude, and was the only one lucky enough to escape while his former crew was trapped and slaughtered by Doflamingo.[2]
History[]
Biography[]
After defecting from the Marines, Diez Barrels formed the Barrels Pirates with himself as captain. He also forced his own son, Dory to join, relying on his incredible strength to accomplish difficult tasks. At some point, they managed to acquire the legendary Ope Ope no Mi and planned to sell it to the Marines for an incredible price.
The crew first appeared on Minion Island, where their captain made a deal with the Marines over the Ope Ope no Mi. However, they were then intruded by Donquixote Rosinante who stole the Devil Fruit using his abilities.[3] Later, the remaining pirates are massacred by Doflamingo's Parasite and Birdcage, which caused the pirates to kill each other before they were looted by the rest of the invading Donquixote Pirates.[4] Barrels himself was personally killed by Doflamingo with a pistol, marking a brutal end for the crew.
Legacy[]
The only survivor is Dory, who was outside the wire cage at the time and refused to help his dying crew, instead fleeing and later joining the Marines.[5] Some years later, Dory became a Rear Admiral and a Captain in the Marine unit, SWORD, then later started his own pirate crew and became a Super Rookie of the Worst Generation while still operating as a member of SWORD in secret. He also stated to have held no grudge towards Doflamingo for killing his father, showing that he had lost any respect and affection for him.
Trivia[]
- The captain, Diez Barrels' surname means "ten" in Spanish, otherwise written as "X" in Roman numerals, and Dory is later known as X Drake (with the "X" pronounced similar to "Diez" in Japanese). This is most likely a family name, as the two are father and son.
- Both known members of the crew - X Drake and Diez Barrels respectively - were known to be former Marines before they left to piracy.
