Etymology[]

  • "Batto" (バット?) is the Japanese pronunciation for the English word "bat".

Strengths and Weaknesses[]

Like most Zoans, this fruit grants its user at least two different transformations: a full bat form and a bat-human hybrid one.

While in hybrid form, the user grows bat-like wings from their back and can suck the blood of others by biting into their skin, akin to a vampire; those whose blood is sucked are quickly incapacitated and put to sleep. When used by Stussy, this was enough to even incapacitate powerful assassins like Lucci and Kaku, the latter in his awakened form.[2]

In the anime, the user can also use thermal vision to monitor the heat generated internally by blood sources.[4]

The fruit does not appear to have any specific weaknesses, aside from the standard Devil Fruit weaknesses.

Usage[]

Stussy Attacks Lucci

Stussy bites Lucci and sucks his blood before rendering him unconscious.

In Stussy's possession, the fruit is used to assist her in stealth combat, particularly against foes she knows to be stronger; due to fast-acting effects of sucking someone's blood, she can easily knock opponents unconscious if she catches them off-guard or can get close.[2][5]

Trivia[]

  • Although the model is not specified, this fruit appears to be based on bats of the subfamily Desmodontinae (more commonly known as vampire bats), whose food source is the blood of other animals.
  • Among the Zoan series, the Batto Batto no Mi is unique in that a model of it already existed beforehand, but only non-canonically, making Stussy's fruit the first canon model of its series, but not the first overall.
