One Piece Wiki

Bondolas are large lift vessels that travel up and down the Red Line from the Red Port to Mary Geoise.[1] They are the only known method of transportation up the Red Line, meaning that lawful sailors who wish to pass between Paradise and the New World this way must abandon their ships at the Red Port and get a new one on the other side.[2]

Appearance and Abilities[]

Bondolas are very large vessels, being extremely spacious even for people like Neptune and Shirahoshi who are 11 meters tall. Their outer layers are shaped roughly like gondolas, with pointed tips on each end. Within the outer structure is a round, multi-story enclosure that has a small tower on each side; each tower appears to have a lookout deck at the top. Outside the building is a three-tiered deck, with the top deck level running along the top of the outer structure with a fence around it, allowing people standing on it to look down at their surroundings. At the bottom of the enclosure, below the outer structure, is another viewing deck. The bondola has a pair of small horizontal-facing propellers at each of its tips, and has four rings jutting out in each diagonal direction that connect it to guiding ropes. Below the bottom deck is the large bubble that powers the vehicle. On the sides of each bondola, "WORLD GOVT." is written along with the number of the bondola.[1]

The bondola is propelled upward and can perform a controlled descent due to the large bubble below it, which is made of the same material as the bubbles on the Sabaody Archipelago. There are four ropes for each bondola that run straight from the Red Port to the dock at Mary Geoise, enabling the bondolas to maintain a vertical path. The vehicle sways slightly in the wind as it climbs higher, but is not threatened by such breezes. There are two bondolas on the Paradise side of the Red Port. The bondolas can fit dozens of people on them at once, including very large people like the massive mermaid princess Shirahoshi. While he was riding a bondola, Sterry worried that a nearby flock of crows would pop the bubble, though Ham Burger noted that they did not usually fly this high.[1]

History[]

Levely Arc[]

Shortly before the Levely began, a group of royals including the Neptune Family, Sterry, Sarie Nantokanette, Tacos, Beer VI, and Mororon boarded Bondola No. 2 on the Paradise side of the Red Port. Sabo additionally infiltrated the bondola disguised as a royal guard. The trip from the Red Port to Mary Geoise went off without a problem, though Morley and Karasu secretly popped up along its route. Sterry saw them and became concerned, but his worries were dismissed.[1]

Final Saga[]

Egghead Arc[]

Revolutionaries Blow Up Bondola

A Bondola is sabotaged.

Sometime after the Revolutionaries raided Mary Geoise, they took up the task of sabotaging future food supplies,[3] making every Bondola explode before they could make it to the top of the Red Line.[4]

Trivia[]

  • Bondolas are likely based on the gondola lift which transports people up into the air by hanging off a moving cable. However, their shape more closely resembles a traditional gondola boat.
