The Bonney Pirates are an infamous and notable rookie pirate crew from South Blue that made their debut on the Sabaody Archipelago the same time the Straw Hat Pirates arrived there two years ago.[1] As such, they are part of the Worst Generation. Following being defeated by the Blackbeard Pirates and captured by Akainu in the New World,[2] Bonney was taken to Marine Headquarters, during which she was able to escape unlike her crew.[3]
Jolly Roger[]
The crew's flag is a grinning skull with long hairs running down, a fringe, and lipstick (reminiscent of Bonney's own). In the background there is a round shaped pattern that could very well represent a pizza (knowing that this is Bonney's favorite dish) and behind it there are the usual crossbones. Another feature of the flag is that on the right top side of it there is a breaking-like pattern that might represent a bite mark, this might also be a reference to Bonney's gluttony.

Unnamed Members[]
Most crew members are seen wearing undersized clothing like their captain, most notably small singlets and sweatshirts.
- One crew member is bald and has two spikes coming out of the sides of his head. He's shirtless and wears baggy pants and suspenders. He appears in Chapters 499 and 581.
- A second crew member has palm tree shaped hair coming out of the top of a bandana. He appears in Chapters 498 and 1102.
- A third crew member has a very thin handlebar mustache and wears a cowboy hat alongside a tank top and suspenders. He appears in Chapters 498 and 507.
Crew Strength[]
The Bonney Pirates as a crew gained their reputation as Pirates for not only attacking marines, but for also beating up the elderly and children, though these so-called elderly and children that were attacked by the crew were all mainly victims of Bonney's powers. It can be presumed that the majority of the crew's notoriety comes purely from Bonney herself; due to her high bounty, her activities as a pirate, and the World Governments' multiple attempts and failures to capture her. While it is currently unknown how strong the rest of the crew itself is, the fact that they started out as a small group of fishermen, to becoming a notable pirate crew is impressive and the fact that they made it through the Grand Line and all the way to Sabaody Archipelago is also worth noting.
The crew originally set out to the seas on a goal to find Bonney's father, Bartholomew Kuma, and while they ultimately failed at this goal, it was confirmed that they actually got incredibly close to finding him (only failing due to Kuma himself avoiding a reunion with them), showing a surprising level of skill at navigating the seas for a group of former fishermen. The fact that they made it into the Grand Line and managed to safely reach the Sabaody Archipelago also helps supports this. It has also been noted by Shakky that being one of the Eleven Supernovas, Bonney can be a powerful foe. Not only did they escape Kizaru's attack, but they were one of the two crews that was not harmed at all; however, this impressive act is somewhat downplayed by the fact that neither crew encountered Kizaru or the Pacifista at all.[4]
The crew, however, was no match for the Blackbeard Pirates, who defeated them all without any problems and put them in chains.[2]
Ship[]
- Further information: Jewelry Margherita
Bonney Pirates' ship as seen in the anime.
The Bonney Pirates' ship is called the Jewelry Margherita (ジュエリー・マルゲリータ号, Juerī Marugerīta-gō?).[5] Their ship seems to reflect the captain's appetite, as it is decorated with a pizza theme and as the bridge looks like a giant pizza with yellow cheese. It has been coated with the Yarukiman resin, allowing it to submerge underwater by reducing its buoyancy, and withstanding the water pressure of 10,000 meters. It is unknown what became of the ship after the crew was captured.
History[]
Past[]
The crew was founded three years ago, after a group of fishermen led by Gyogyo helped Bonney escape the Sorbet Kingdom, and set out to sea so Bonney could search for and reunite with her father. After Conney discovered that Alpha of CP8 planned to keep Bonney despite having already been cured of her illness for unknown reasons, she established a plan to prepare a ship for Bonney's journey and took her place, with Bonney using her Toshi Toshi no Mi ability to disguise herself as Conney and escape the agent.[6] As they sailed, the Bonney Pirates gained a reputation of beating up the elderly and children, though these were all victims of Bonney's powers. They also came close to finding Kuma on at least one occasion, though he used his own ability to run away from them before they got to see him.[7]
Summit War Saga[]
Sabaody Archipelago Arc[]
Bonney Pirates
On the Sabaody Archipelago, the Bonney Pirates had a meal at a restaurant, where Bonney demanded for more food.[1] Unknown to her, Kuma actually peeked in to see her before his complete transformation into a Pacifista was complete.[7] Bonney later came in contact with Roronoa Zoro and stopped him from attacking a World Noble. This gave the crew an idea of just how wild the Straw Hat Pirates were.[8] The Bonney Pirates later witnessed Admiral Kizaru come to the island after Monkey D. Luffy attacked Saint Charlos.[9] They later fought of some Marines and made their escape.[10]
Marineford Arc[]
During the Summit War of Marineford, the Bonney Pirates stayed on Sabaody to watch the war unfold on the big screen. Witnessing those events Bonney cried after witnessing her father's fate.[4] Near the end of the war, the crew got closer to Marineford to witness Shanks end the war, and Bonney showed her grudge against someone before heading to the New World after them.[11]
Post-War Arc[]
After the war, they were defeated by the Blackbeard Pirates. Bonney was then taken into custody by Admiral Akainu[2] and brought to the Marine Headquarters. However, Bonney somehow managed to escape, but she left her crew behind.[3]

One Piece: Stampede[]
The Bonney Pirates were present during the Pirates Festival. Along with other competing pirate crews, they rode a Knock Up Stream in order to try and get the Pirate King's treasure, that being an eternal pose to Laugh Tale. They later successfully escaped from the marines thanks to the revolutionaries.[16]

Final Saga[]
Egghead Arc[]
Without her crew, Bonney made her way towards Egghead to confront Vegapunk for what he had done to her father.[14] Along the way, she was rescued by the Straw Hat Pirates, who brought her to the island.[17] She and the Straw Hats ended up getting pulled into the Egghead Incident, during which she found her father's memory bubble created using his own ability and absorbed them.[18] Later, Bonney apologized to Vegapunk.[19] After coming up with an escape plan for the incoming Marine siege, Bonney and Luffy left the laboratory to assist in the moving of the Thousand Sunny,[20] but because of Kizaru's interference, Bonney fell off the Labophase[21] and was saved by Sentomaru.[22]
When Jaygarcia Saturn showed up on the island, Bonney attempted to kill him but failed. Saturn held Bonney up so she could be executed, but was foiled by Kuma's timely appearance. The rescue group then attempted to escape with Bonney and Kuma, but ended up in the line of fire of the Pacifistas. Fortunately for them, Bonney was able to shift the fire to the Marines after learning that she had full authority over her father's clones. Kuma and Bonney were then carried away to make their escape while a recovered Luffy hung back to deal with Saturn.
Because of Vegapunk's broadcast after his murder by Kizaru, the remaining Elders were all teleported to Egghead while the Giant Warrior Pirates arrived to assist the Straw Hats. As Bonney's group confronted Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro at the rendezvous point. Following a brief scuffle, the Elder abandoned Bonney's group to stop Vegapunk's broadcast.
Bonney, Luffy, Sanji and Franky would then work together to deal with Marcus Mars, while the newly awakened Iron Giant went to stop the others. Saturn, however, was able to evade Emet and reach their location, but thanks to Luffy and Bonney's combined efforts, he was punched into pieces and blown away from the Great Eirik. Meanwhile, as Emet finished the battle through the release of a massive burst of Supreme King Haki from a special knot, allowing for Bonney, the Straw Hats, and Giant Warrior Pirates to sail away as their ships set a course to Elbaph.[23]
