Short Summary[]

Long Summary[]

Aboard the Piece of Spadille, Ace practices his Mera Mera no Mi techniques on a drawing of Whitebeard. The flames are absorbed by a Flame Dial, to his crew's amazement and Ace's annoyance, and as they begin discussing how it works, he jumps up to the crow's nest. He declares that they're about to pass through the Sabaody Archipelago and Fish-Man Island, entering the New World, and promises to aim directly for Whitebeard, getting cheers from his crew.

On the Sabaody Archipelago, Ace immediately runs off, leaving Masked Deuce to negotiate with the Coating specialist Silvers Rayleigh. A short time later, they plunge underwater, as the Spade Pirates members freak out over Deuce having met Rayleigh, the First Mate of the Roger Pirates. A few crew members joke that Ace might have hit it off with Roger if he was still alive, but Ace is just insulted. He tells them to never compare the two of them, and describes Roger as "just another criminal" who will be his stepping stone. With the crew excited, Ace reveals his list of mermaid spots to visit on Fish-Man Island, and they continue on their downward journey.

Reaching the underwater isand, the Spade Pirates visit a restaurant. They're soon harassed by Hammond, who questions why they're not cowering in fear of Whitebeard's flag protecting the island. Ace apologizes for being loud, but Hammond simply blames him for the crimes of Roger and the pirates who were inspired by him, to Ace's annoyance. As the fish-man charges him, Ace unleashes a blast of Supreme King Haki, knocking Hammond unconscious. Hammond's men charge the Spade Pirates, and the situation devolves into an all-out brawl.

Sometime later, the Spade Pirates made their way into the New World. After a series of battles, involving the destruction of five bandit groups, they make their way to a winter island. Deuce asks Ace if they can finally rest after all the recent combat, but Ace explains they're actually going to meet Shanks, one of the Four Emperors, to Deuce's shock. Despite Deuce's complaints, the Spade Pirates reassure Deuce that they can continue fighting and have no problem going after an Emperor, which Ace is grateful for. However, he reveals they're going to visit on a diplomatic mission, not for combat: Shanks had saved Ace's brother in his childhood, and he simply wants to pay his respects.

Upon reaching a cave atop a mountain, the Spade Pirates find the Red Hair Pirates waiting for them. Like Deuce, they were initially prepared for combat, but after Ace explained the situation, the two crews throw a party, spending the night together. While talking, Shanks also confirms the identity of Ace's father, but at Ace's request, refrains from discussing it.

At some later point, the Spade Pirates land on one of the Whitebeard Pirates' supply islands. They resolve to wait for Whitebeard there, but are instead attacked by the Warlord Jinbe, prompting Ace to defend his crewmates. When Ace reveals his goal, of targetting Whitebeard, Jinbe explains that he can't allow him to wait for him, and the two men begin to fight. Over the course of five days, they fight nonstop, as the Spade Pirates watch from the sidelines. Finally, just before they collapse, the Moby Dick makes landfall on the island, with Whitebeard at the front.

He demands to see the one who wants his head, and jumps down, landing in front of Ace. The Spade Pirates attempt to run to protect their captain, but Ace refutes them, creating a wall of fire between them. He demands that Whitebeard allow his crew to leave, promising to stay and fight to the end in exchange. While Deuce initially refuses to accept Ace's sacrifice, he folds before Ace's passion, and pulls the rest of the crew back to the Piece of Spadille, intent on circling around and grabbing Ace to escape. Whitebeard commends the crew for their love of their captain, as they two captains begin their combat. From the Piece of Spadille, however, the Spade Pirates are unable to circle well enough around; they're captured by the Whitebeard Pirates, and as they're thrown onto the Moby Dick, Deuce comes to the realization that Ace's father is Roger, motivating the rookie to surpass him.

Sometime later, Ace awakens on a ship, unaware of when he even fell unconscious.
