Short Summary[]
Usopp is caught in Impel Down after jumping too high on a Midori Boshi: Trampolia and launching himself into the prison. He is trapped on Level 1, where he meets Demalo Black, and they try to escape, freeing Donquixote Doflamingo in the process. Ultimately, Doflamingo sacrifices himself, and Usopp is able to escape the prison and reunite with the Straw Hat Pirates.
Long Summary[]
The chapter opens with Usopp and Chopper introducing the concept of the chapter, with Chopper explaining that a member of the Straw Hats has been captured in Impel Down. Usopp reassures him that no matter what, the crew wouldn't abandon one of their own, and they resolve to go save their missing friend.
In Impel Down, Usopp is shocked to realize that he's the crew member who got caught. The narrator attempts to end the chapter with Usopp spending the rest of his life in prison, but he stops them, and thinks back to how he got caught in the first place: while bouncing on a Midori Boshi: Trampolia, he jumped too high, landing in the prison. When he completes his story, Usopp is approached by Jean Goen, who asks if he's Kaku; when Usopp clarifies he's not, Goen asks if he's a Donquixote Pirates member who brought Sugar sausages, to Usopp's annoyance. Finally, someone asks if he's Usopp from the Straw Hat Pirates, and he confirms his identity, causing the prisoners to cheer for Luffy's mass breakout two years prior.
Usopp asks if there's any way he can escape, and an old man reveals that he's kept one of Galdino's wax keys for the cell. Another prisoner explains that Usopp is lucky, because today is the prison's resupply day, so he can hide in an empty crate to sneak aboard the Marine supply ship. Before he leaves the cell, Usopp is given a chocolate bar from Pankuta Dakeyan, though he gets annoyed when he learns that it has been keistered. Suddenly, Demalo Black, who's also in this cell, begins begging Usopp to take him too; when the other prisoners reveal they want to stay in the cell, Usopp agrees.
However, before they can sneak into the empty crate, the duo needs to cover a nearby Surveillance Den Den Mushi. Black points out Usopp's pouch just outside the cell, so they sneak out to grab it and run to the crate, with Usopp taking out the Den Den Mushi in the process. Finally, the two pirates sneak into a large chest, barely making it in time before a group of guards and Blugori approaches. The Blugori carry the chest down to Level 6, where they leave it.
Getting out of the chest, Usopp and Black panic over having been brought lower, instead of outside. They agree that their priority has to be not getting noticed, when they realize they're right in front of a Surveillance Den Den Mushi; suddenly, an alarm blares, announcing their presence. They attempt to run into a hiding spot, but instead run into the Sphinx, and begin running from it instead; they're soon chased by Minotaurus and a group of Blugori as well, eventually making their way in front of Donquixote Doflamingo's cell.
Noticing their fear, Doflamingo offers to help if they free him, despite his hated for Usopp. Though Usopp accuses him of lying so he can kill him, he frees Doflamingo anyways, not seeing any other option; without even needing his Seastone handcuffs removed, Doflamingo quickly deals with the guards chasing Usopp and Black, to their shock. The trio prepares to escape the prison, and when Doflamingo says he's hungry, Usopp offers the rest of the chocolate bar from earlier.
Noting that they can't leave Level 6 without guard access, Usopp comes up with a plan to escape, and they go hide. A short time later, Sadi, Saldeath, and a group of guards and Blugori make their way down to capture them, but find the area empty. At Hannyabal's order, they recover the unconscious Blugori from earlier and return to Level 1, planning to wait for the escaped prisoners at the entrance; however, unbeknownst to them, the three prisoners had climbed into the unconscious Blugori, joining the guards on their way back up.
Upon reaching the upper levels, the prisoners attempted to sneak into outgoing crates again, but were interrupted by the arrival of Magellan. As he created poison around them, the trio ran through a crowd of guards, and Black tripped; when Usopp began turning back to help him, he ordered the duo to escape without him, and Doflamingo picked up Usopp to keep running. With Magellan still chasing, the two pirates jumped over a pit and attempted to swing across; however, Usopp's rope got caught, and Magellan managed to grab it when they swang back. In a panic, Usopp threw a smoke bomb, allowing the two pirates to escape.
Back on Level 1, Usopp and Doflamingo attempt to think of a plan to escape, noting that the Marine ship will be arriving any minute. Doflamingo tells Usopp to cut off his arms so he can get rid of the Seastone handcuffs, but Usopp refuses, stating that he'll find a better plan, and Doflamingo apologizes for underestimating him. He reveals that he has a plan to escape, and they go put it into action.
Alone, Usopp finds Magellan, who begins chasing him. He uses another smoke bomb, taking advantage of Magellan's confusion to jump above him with another Midori Boshi: Trampolia and stunning him with a Flash Dial. While Magellan is blinded, Doflamingo jumps on his back, wrapping the Seastone chains around Magellan's neck, disabling his Devil Fruit abilities. With the vice-warden weakened, Doflamingo pulls him into a nearby hole to the lower levels, and encourages Usopp to escape on his own, thanking him once again for the chocolate bar. Realizing that Doflamingo has sacrificed himself over the food he was given earlier, Usopp feels guilty for not telling him it was keistered. He yells it out as Doflamingo falls to the lower levels, reigniting the Warlord's hatred for him. With Magellan gone, Usopp makes his way back to the entrance, noting that all the guards are gone and hiding in a crate.
Five minutes earlier, in the control room, the guards warns Hannyabal of the Straw Hats breaking into the prison, demanding Usopp be returned to them. He orders Sadi and Saldeath to go to their reported locations, and after hanging up, reveals himself to actually be Bentham, having faked the Straw Hats breaking in to distract the guards. With the guards distracted, Bentham turns into Magellan to greet the arriving Marine ship.
As Magellan, Bentham welcomes Hina's ship, which has arrived with supplies and Mounblutain, who they ran into while sailing. Noting an emergency broadcast from Hannyabal from a few minutes prior, Hina orders her soldiers to check each of the Impel Down crates, despite Bentham's claims that everything is fine; however, just before they find Usopp, Franky falls out of the sky, and Usopp leaves his crate to join him. Seeing Usopp's safety, Bentham returns to the prison, evading the Marines who want to capture him properly. Before the Straw Hats leave, Usopp broadcasts a final message across the prison, thanking the other prisoners for their help in his escape. Finally, to leave the prison, Franky launches them up with Coup de Boo.
