Long Summary[]
While sailing through the New World, the Straw Hat Pirates are attacked by a Sea Lion and a Marine fleet. Nami orders Franky to trigger a Coup de Burst, and they fly away from the Marines; in the air, Luffy hits his head on a table, knocking him to the ground. After landing, the Straw Hats recover from the sudden launch, as Luffy questions who he is. The Straw Hats realize that he's lost his memory, and go dock on a nearby island in a panic.
Without his memory, Luffy is terrified of pirates, and gets depressed when he learns that his surname is "Monkey." Further, he is afraid when he learns of his Gomu Gomu no Mi abilities, and he eats with good table manners, to the crew's shock. While they're still reeling, Robin reminds the rest of the crew that Luffy is scheduled to have a meeting with Big Mom; despite the crew's protests, Luffy insists he'll be fine to meet with an "innocent old woman", and goes to meeting.
Upon seeing Linlin, Luffy nearly faints in fear, and he almost runs away when she absorbs the souls of nearby reporters. Luffy tries to speak to her to calm her down, but when it fails, he remembers a bag of candy that Usopp gave him. He gives one to Big Mom, only for it to explode her mouth; unbeknownst to Luffy, they were trap candies, angering the nearby Perospero. He throws one to the ground in a fit of rage, causing bamboo to grow under Linlin and throw her into the air.
Reporting on the confrontation, Morgans asks Luffy for his final statement, but is confused when the pirate apologizes and leaves quietly. Following Luffy back, Morgans discovers that he's lost his memory, reporting that instead and causing worldwide panic.
Enraged at being humiliated by someone without their memory, Big Mom orders her crew to attack the Straw Hats, as pirates around the world decide to train and claim his bounty. Conversely, the Kuja Pirates, Nefertari Vivi, and Shirahoshi visited to try and help Luffy, but were all unable to do anything. They were soon followed by Koby, who also tried to cheer Luffy up, telling him how he was always a good person. Luffy asks if he could join the Marines, and while Koby is initially delighted to invite him, he eventually breaks down in tears after realizing Luffy really has lost his memory; when Luffy offers him a handkerchief, Koby runs off, depressed. Luffy is then joined by Rebecca and Leo, shocking him with the number of people who want to speak to him.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Straw Hats have been holding off Big Mom's army, refusing to give up Luffy. As the combat progresses, the residents of a nearby town panic and evacuate, bringing the fighting to Luffy's attention. To Rebecca's surprise, he begins running away in fear, dropping and abandoning his straw hat in the process. Seeing this Bartolomeo, himself coming to meet Luffy, becomes furious at Luffy for abandoning his crewmates while fight off Big Mom. Luffy argues that he can't do anything to help as he is now, and in a fit of rage, Bartolomeo begins to beat Luffy, pleading with him to recover his memory.
As Luffy begins to slowly remember the forming of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, Bartolomeo hits him to the ground, and Luffy hits his head on a rock. Luffy lies on the ground as Bartolomeo begs him to remember his time with the Straw Hats, finally allowing Luffy to remember his time with Jinbe after the Summit War of Marineford and fully recovering his memory. With tears of joy, Bartolomeo returns Luffy's straw hat, and Luffy begins rushing over to the fighting, where his crewmates are surrounded and getting worn out.
Suddenly, Big Mom's forces begin to collapse, as Luffy uses his Supreme King Haki during his approach. From the sky, he kicks Big Mom from above, shocking her crew. While the Straw Hats congratulate him on recovering his memories, unease spreads throughout Big Mom's forces. She angrily orders them to continue their assault, but Luffy enters Gear 4, and the two captains crash into each other, splitting the heavens.
Some time later, the Straw Hats return to the Thousand Sunny, where they discuss how they barely made it out safely, having been visited by the Marines, the Revolutionary Army, Cipher Pol, the Heart Pirates, and the Kid Pirates. The Straw Hats congratulate Luffy on recovering his memory once again, and the crew sets off for future adventures.
