Short Summary[]
With their 100th battle finally upon them, Ace and Whitebeard fight on Peak Ode Island, ending in Ace's defeat. They hold a sakazuki ceremony welcoming Ace into the Whitebeard Pirates, and burn the flag of the Spade Pirates. After Ace's death during the Summit War of Marineford, Masked Deuce visits his grave, having written a novel about his life.
Long Summary[]
As Ace and Whitebeard begin their 100th duel, Deuce thinks back to Shanks' words about aiming the top without a goal, and how Whitebeard has become Ace's goal.
The Whitebeard Pirates, Spade Pirates, and Jinbe watch as the two combatants clash, destroying chunks of Peak Ode Island in the process. During their combat, Ace manages to knock Murakumogiri out of Whitebeard's hands, to the crew's shock, and he creates a massive circle of flame to keep him away from it. Mustering all his strength, Ace creates huge dragons of flame that charge towards Whitebeard, and the Emperor simply takes the attack, blowing away the fire and the island's mountain with a punch. Ace collapses forward, into Whitebeard's arms, and admits his loss.
On the deck of the Moby Dick, with the affiliated ships of Whitebeard's fleet surrounding them, Whitebeard and Ace held a sakazuki ceremony. Ace had disbanded the Spade Pirates, and as the entire crew promised to continue following him even into Whitebeard's crew, he burned their Jolly Roger. Thinking back to their time together, Ace drank from the sake cup, accepting Whitebeard as his father and captain and promising to tattoo the Whitebeard Pirates' Jolly Roger on his back.
In the future, Deuce thinks back to Ace's sakazuki ceremony, and contemplates their continuing adventures, even on a new ship. He thinks back to Ace's life, from his childhood in the Goa Kingdom, leaving his family, their meeting on Sixis, their journey to the Wano Country and meeting with Yamato. He remembers Thatch finding the Yami Yami no Mi and being killed by Teach, Ace tracking him down, and his eventual death at the Summit War of Marineford, followed by the death of Whitebeard and their combined funeral.
Leaving on his own, Deuce gets the Striker repaired, and modifies it to work with a Flame Dial in place of Ace's flames. He sails off on his own, and while talking to Morgans, refuses to sell the book he wrote on Ace's life, promising instead to work as a reporter for the World Economy News Paper. He asks if he can focus on "Straw Hat" Luffy and Revolutionary Army Chief-of-Staff Sabo, to Morgans' confusion, and promises to see Ace's story through.
