Personality and Relationships

Featured Article Ahoy! This here is the 209th Featured Article.
"Charlotte Linlin" has been featured, meaning it was chosen as an article of interest.

PersonalityEdit

As Carmel noted, Linlin was once a truly kind-hearted little girl. At five years old, Linlin tried to help people and even animals such as a bear and a wolf. However, her benevolent intentions ended up with dangerously violent results due to her monstrous strength and innocent simplicity, as she slapped a bear for devouring a wolf, accidentally killing it in the process. She also fractured a giant's bones while trying to smack a mosquito on him. Linlin even cried in genuine remorse after she accidentally killed the bear. She would also try to "fix" the appearances of her fellow orphans, which was actually attempting to tear off their racial features, being unable to understand the harm she was inflicting. This has carried over to her current situation, as while her dream of creating a country without discrimination is noble, she's willing to use violence and extortion to force people to follow her commands.

While Linlin grew up normally as a kind and innocent little girl, she became more selfish and cruel over time, due to neither Carmel nor Streusen ever bothering to teach her any morals as well as taking advantage of her inhuman strength and naivety.

Despite her age, Linlin has childish tendencies. After capturing Brook, Linlin playfully patted and caressed the living skeleton and carried Brook with her to sleep at night like a teddy bear and cried hysterically when she thought Brook had died. When Carmel's photo was destroyed and shown to her, Linlin even broke down crying like a baby as she recalls the time when she was a five-year-old girl, questioning why Carmel left her behind.

She refers to herself with "ore" (おれ?), an aggressive masculine form of "I", instead of the gender-neutral "watashi" (?) that most other females use.[17] Like many others, Big Mom has a distinct style of laughing: "Mamamama".[18][19][20] However, she has also laughed in a normal "Hahahahahaha" style[21][20] (occasionally with a drawn-out "Haaaaaaaa" at the beginning,[22][19]) and has even combined it with her unique laughter in the form of "Haaaaaahahamamamama".[23][24]

GluttonyEdit

I wonder if we can explain the situation? She is like a monster who would destroy a whole country for sweets! One of the Four Emperors... Big Mom!
— Minister of the Left on Big Mom[25]

Big Mom is an extremely gluttonous woman who loves to eat sweets above all else[26] and has all the islands under her protection pay her with metric tons of whatever kind of confectionery or pastry they can produce.[27] Even as a child Linlin was easily persuaded to stay on Elbaf after her parents allowed her to eat as much sweets as she wanted. She is obsessed with sweets to the point of destroying entire countries for failing to deliver them.[28] In fact, she loves her sweets so much that her subordinates or her territory holds less importance compared to it.[29] Despite this, she did not lose control when Luffy claimed to have eaten all the candy that Fish-Man Island owed her; instead, she correctly deduced that he was lying in order to protect Fish-Man Island.[30] Big Mom is particularly fond of wedding cakes, as she ordered a gigantic wedding cake to be made simply as a treat to celebrate the acquisition of the technology of the Germa Kingdom after she slaughtered the Vinsmokes and even when sleeping, she would sleep talk about eating wedding cakes. According to Pudding, Big Mom would even get enraged and destroy the whole wedding hall if anyone made a mess of the wedding cake.[31] When the wedding cake was presented during the ceremony, Big Mom expressed gluttonous joy and excitement to the point that she salivated.[32] True to Pudding's words, Big Mom went berserk after Luffy ruined the wedding cake, to the point of killing several of her chefs when they were unable to make a substitute cake on the spot.

Eating DisorderEdit

Big Mom Eats Sweet City

Big Mom terrorizes Sweet City during one of her cravings.

Big Mom suffers from an unknown disease dubbed as an "Eating Disorder" (食いわずらい Kuiwazurai?) known as Hunger Pangs in the Funimation subs, in which she becomes obsessively fixated on a "Sweet Theme", and will go on a crazed rampage in search of the food she wants to eat. She has suffered from this disorder since before she was 5 years old, being the reason she was banished from her home country, and why she is so hated by the giants, due to her destroying one of their villages and killing Jorul during a rampage. While in this state, she will destroy anything and everything in her path, including her castle, her subordinates, and even her own children, until she eats the food she wants.[33] When rampaging, her pupils become crazed and swirly.[34] Once her cravings are satiated, she becomes more affable and retains no memory of her actions during her rampage.[35] Despite having this disorder for most of her life, it seems she is completely unaware of this psychosis.

Big Mom seems to retain a small amount of consciousness in this state, as Perospero managed to convince her to chase after the Straw Hats by lying that they had stolen a spare wedding cake (the food she desired at the time). However, the fact that she bought into such a lie so easily shows she lacks rationality.[36] Her mental instability in this state also means that she's unable to make rational decisions, as shown when she attacked the Thousand Sunny, which she thought was carrying the wedding cake she craved, with a massive tidal wave, even though she could have sunk the ship and ruined the cake. She was also willing to abandon the Thousand Sunny to chase after the Fire Tank Pirates's ship upon seeing them with the cake, despite having the perfect chance to destroy the Straw Hat Crew at the time. She's capable of giving out simple orders to homies to aid her in the pursuit of any perceived targets.[37][38] However, to some extent, she is capable of recognizing others in this state, as she recognized her daughters Pudding and Chiffon while furiously questioning them for being with the Straw Hats. She also remembered Perospero's claim about the wedding cake, and managed to recalled the threat she made to Perospero to kill him if he had lied about the cake.

HedonismEdit

Stemming from her love for sweets, Big Mom is extremely fond of having tea parties which she dearly looks forward to from the bottom of her heart as noted by Jinbe. Thus, Big Mom is extremely generous to people who attend her tea parties, joyfully offering a large variety of pastry delicacies and extravagant drinks for them to eat and drink as much as they want and can be murderously enraged if her tea parties are ruined in any way.

She is very jolly when in a good mood and enjoys celebrating the fulfillment of her ambitions with song and dance, but her cheerfulness is tempered with horrendous malice and brutality, as for every Tea Party she held, Linlin sends her subordinates to specific places to plunder unique ingredients for her tea party, while also ordering them to massacre as many people as possible while robbing the ingredients, causing numerous people to end up dead or viciously brutalized in the process.[39] Big Mom has a particular penchant for singing malicious songs in a light-hearted and happy tone, as she sang Bloody Party together with her homies and some musicians of the Big Mom Pirates while planning Pudding's wedding.

AmbitionEdit

Big Mom's Dream

Big Mom's dream is having all the races in her family at the same eye level.

Inspired by Carmel's words (though she misunderstood them), Big Mom also desires to create a nation where all races can happily live together[40] due to wanting a "family" comprised of individuals of all races that she can dine with at eye level with via Caesar Clown's gigantification research.[41] Big Mom is so dedicated to this dream that she is willing to invest massive amounts of money in Caesar's research, even building a working replica of Punk Hazard's laboratory in the event that it was destroyed and offering more financial support after Caesar is brought to her with no results; however, her fixation on this dream rendered her oblivious to how Caesar was simply embezzling money from her for his own indulgences.[42] However, no giants live in Totto Land due to them hating Big Mom, especially after a botched arranged marriage when Lola ran away from giant Prince Loki, and Big Mom briefly became enraged when Vinsmoke Judge mentioned them; she has long-since given up on any attempt to reconcile with them.[43] Her obsession with diversity is not just limited towards her family; she also wishes to collect rare and unique animals for her own pleasure, as explained by her eighth daughter who claims that Big Mom would not be satisfied with just having all the races of the world for herself.[44]

PrideEdit

Big Mom is very arrogant and proud of her status as an Emperor and the queen of Totto Land. Big Mom views herself superior and confident in her abilities that she doesn't want any outside help as she berated her second son, Katakuri, for interfering when confronting Luffy. Big Mom also taunts her opponents and looks down on them, as when Luffy, his crew, and his allies were trying to escape, Big Mom called him out for being a coward for going back on his word to defeat her. While Big Mom looks down on anyone who oppose her, she detests anyone who does the same to her, as she was angry at Luffy for talking back at her to not be cocky just because she is an Emperor and when she failed to take Jinbe's lifespan, she was taken aback when he called out he cannot be intimidated by a "mere" Emperor. However, she can regain her composure if there is a situation that she has control of, as while she was frustrated with Luffy talking back to her, she regained her thoughts since he, along with Nami, were still prisoners. While Big Mom views herself being superior, she apparently does not underestimate her opponents' strength, as she send Cracker to aid Brûlée in dealing with Luffy and his group since Luffy took down Doflamingo. However, she still underestimates her opponents as she was shocked that Cracker was defeated. Even when she faced Luffy herself, she laughed when the latter declared he would defeat her after beating Kaido, still refusing to take him seriously. She is also confident in her Devil Fruit, as when she tried to take Jinbe's lifespan away, she was shocked and confused when it had no effect on him, prompting her to use brute force on him. She is also confident that had she been successful in bringing the giants of Elbaf on her side, she would have been able to eliminate the other Emperors and become the Pirate King.

Big Mom's arrogance also makes her oblivious to the dangers that are presented to her and her crew. While she and a handful of her children traveled to Wano Country for revenge against Luffy, she only came with one ship. Even King commented on how foolish it was to travel to Wano with a single ship.

Big Mom is very prideful of her pirate fleet and image. In spite of her arrogance, she does give some appreciation to her enemies. Big Mom praised Brook, in spite of his defeat against her, for harming one of her powerful homies, Prometheus. She even respected Pedro after the latter tried convincing her against taking his lifespan by removing his eye, causing her to take away 50 years off his lifespan instead of 70. Big Mom also holds the strength and abilities of her children and crew highly, as she viewed Pudding's ability to read Poneglyph with her third eye as an asset. She will get furious if her reputation as an Emperor is diminished in any way, as Big Mom became so furious when Snack and Cracker were defeated that Big Mom created a storm. However, she is not above punishing her crew or children if she feels they had tarnished her reputation as Snack's position as Sweet Commander was revoked after his defeat against Urouge. Big Mom even got furious at Morgans for humiliating her when he wrote an article about her supposed defeat against Luffy where she warned him to watch his back. After her humiliating loss, Big Mom swore revenge against Luffy and his crew to where she stabs his wanted poster to vent out her anger and she argued with Kaido on who has the right to take Luffy's head.

Big Mom also has no fear of her fellow Emperor and old time acquaintance, Kaido, despite him being called the Strongest Creature in the World and renowned for his invulnerability. She was unfazed by Kaido's threats to kill her if she came to Wano, even daring him to try. During her captivity on Onigashima, Big Mom remained authoritative and prideful, urging the Beasts Pirates to keep feeding her and asking King to join her crew despite being cuffed with seastone and him having attacked her ship before.

Business SavvyEdit

When calm and thinking rationally, Big Mom possesses a rather businesslike mindset and strongly believes that a pirate must accept no compromises or delays for something they want.[45] Pappag thinks she is protecting Fish-Man Island with a business perspective since the deals made with the candy qualify as racketeering[46], though she prioritizes sweets over money and treasure; she initially refused an alternative payment of treasure when Fish-Man Island's monthly candy tribute could not be met[47], only accepting out of amusement once Monkey D. Luffy openly stood up to and defied her over the payment.[48][49]

This even extends to her allies and crew; should one of them choose to leave her crew or cut ties with her, Big Mom forces them to give up something precious to them as compensation, uncaring of their reason for leaving to begin with.[50] Similarly, she expects all citizens of Totto Land to sacrifice portions of their lifespan as the price of residing in her country, further illustrating her desire to be compensated for everything she provides.[51] While Big Mom does not take much interest in money and treasures compared to sweets, she does have a strong liking in collecting special treasures that are rare and legendary such as the Tamatebako,[52] as shown when she learned than an intruder broke into her treasure room, her first concern was the Tamatebako.[53]

Big Mom has proven herself to be extremely treacherous and cunning, as she is willing to break promises and betray potential allies to get what she wants. While putting up a fake front of desiring an alliance with the Vinsmoke Family, she has no intention of marrying off one of her favorite daughters, Pudding, to create this alliance. Instead, mother and daughter plotted together to lure the other family in to massacre them during the wedding ceremony, in order for Big Mom to acquire the Germa Kingdom's cloning technology, a feat they intend to achieve by having the kingdom parked within their territory, all the while without needing to give Pudding to the Vinsmoke family. Pudding also claimed that Luffy and Nami are not meant to leave Whole Cake Island alive either, thus showing that Big Mom was intent on breaking her promise with Sanji about sparing their lives in exchange for his cooperation with this wedding.[54] Her seeming willingness to let her crew members go in return for something they possess is also a sham, as she actually demands lifespan amounts beyond what a single person is able to give her, resulting in her killing them and also taking the lifespans of the people closest to that person.[55] Should she somehow not be able to get any lifespan, she will throw out the deal altogether and physically attack the person.[56]

SelfishnessEdit

Big Mom is also immensely selfish and obsessed with power; her marriage of Pudding to Sanji is solely for the sake of gaining access to the advanced combat technology of Germa 66[57], a process which she is willing to repeat with all her children in order to strengthen her own crew.[58] When a marriage is threatened or annulled, Big Mom will become incredibly angry at the people responsible and aim to kill them mercilessly, even if they are her own children; the larger the power she fails to gain, the angrier she will become. This lust for power stems from her desire to overthrow the other members of the Four Emperors and ultimately become the Pirate King.[59] Big Mom has some interest in the Poneglyphs despite being unable to read them, knowing they are the potential key to Laugh Tale.[60]

Her selfishness also extends to her Tea Parties. While the wedding between Pudding and Sanji was meant to be a joyous occasion for their marriage, the event primarily caters to what Big Mom wants over what Pudding wants. This also extends to her guests, as most of the presents for the wedding are primarily for Big Mom herself with very few for Pudding. She also ignored all of Pudding's ideas for the wedding such as the dress she chose for the event only for Big Mom to choose a dress for her instead.

Another sign of her selfishness is that while she conceived Pudding with her Third-eyed father for the sole purpose of using Pudding's third eye to read Poneglyphs in order to reach Laugh Tale, she still insulted Pudding for her third eye, as seen when she disgustingly called it creepy, and ordered her to grow out her bangs to conceal it, while being completely uncaring of her feelings. She also abducted and forced 43 men including Pound into becoming her husbands and discarded them after conceiving children and even allowed them to be killed. She is also willing to completely disregard her children's wishes on Marriage for the sole sake of strengthening her crew.[58] She seems to recognize others by their lineage first and foremost, as she often speaks of others in terms of their relation to their parents[61] and grandparents.[62] She also deceived Sanji into thinking that she would release his friends after he agreed to marry Pudding, when in reality she intended to assasinate him and also execute his friends.[63]

Linlin apparently does not like to talk about things that are personal and gets angry when people question her. When Judge pointed out that he did not see any giants in Totto Land, Big Mom briefly gave an angry look before dodging the subject by claiming that he overlooked them.[64] When a first time guest asked her about Mother Carmel, she furiously responded to his inquiry by knocking him out with her Haoshoku Haki.[65]

Linlin is also extremely hypocritical. While she hates people who do not keep their promises with her and will resort to ruthlessness towards said individuals, she has shown that she will not hesitate to lie or deceive others just to get what she wants. During her conversation with Jinbe, she states that a pirate should be free to do whatever they want, yet she forced him to pay a huge price which could result in his death and death for his whole crew. She also forces her own children to marry others without taking their feelings into account and refuses to give her crewmates the choice to leave her crew alive.

CrueltyEdit

There are two things our Mama hates: bitter sweets, and tea-party no-shows. I have seen what happens to people who refuse her invitation out of ignorance. The sight of them breaking down in bitter regret is ohhh so painful to watch! A tea party invitation from Big Mom is tantamount to an absolute summons that cannot be refused! As they say, even the demons of hell dutifully attend our Mama's tea parties!
— Vito explains why people do not refuse Big Mom's tea party invitations.[66]

An extremely ruthless and unstable woman, Big Mom is infamous for destroying countries over slight infractions (though most often when they fail to make their monthly payment of sweets), disregarding any and all reasons for the failure while rationalizing that she despises people unable to keep their promises, which makes her a hypocrite as Big Mom herself does not keep her own promises.[54] Generally, there are two things she dislikes: bitter treats, and invitees not showing up for her tea party.[67] Demonstrating herself to be immensely brutal, she does not forgive those who refuse invitations to her tea parties, and she will kill people precious to the absentee as a "present".[68] She does not accept excuses of any kind, even if it was given in advance, nor if the reason was as important as attending a loved one's funeral. Even after dealing such traumatizing damage to an absentee, she would still send them an invitation to the next tea party and expect them to attend, as Jigra was given one more even after Big Mom killed his father.[69] Due to her insane brutality, even Caesar, who is dangerously known for his malevolent madness, is extremely terrified of her. Vinsmoke Judge, a ruthless tyrant himself, also considered Linlin a madwoman. Even some of her children such as Brûlée and Opera are deathly fearful of Linlin as they are aware that their mother is capable of ruthlessly slaughtering her own children should they ever defy her. Big Mom particularly enjoyed killing people by taking away their lifespans, claiming it to be her favorite food. She gleefully killed Zepo in this manner and while she spared Pedro from immediate death, she took away up to 50 years of his entire life away, leaving Pedro a few short years left to live. She also tried to kill Jinbe in a similar manner and was extremely enraged when her powers had no effect on him. Her forcing Sanji to attend her Tea Party just to be killed in order to steal the Germa's cloning technology proves her willingness to harm innocent people who have never offended her just to satisfy her selfish ambitions.

Big Mom's Malice

Big Mom's malice for those who go against agreements with her.

When it comes to dealing with enemy pirate crews, Big Mom specifically instructs her children and other subordinates to give her enemies false hope before crushing their spirits as brutally as possible.[70] When Anana wanted knives to cut up her stuffed animal, Big Mom immediately asked two of her sons to bring knives to her.[71] She also encourages and rewards deceitful behavior in her children, as her daughter Charlotte Pudding claims that Big Mom favors and pampers her due to her ability to lie convincingly.[72] On the occasion that she does uphold her promises and deals, if the other party fails to uphold or goes directly against their part in the agreement, Big Mom will display immense rage and will not hesitate to inflict the worst punishment upon them.[73]

Although she has no problem with having her children and subordinates attack her enemies, Big Mom will directly go after anyone who threatens anything extremely important to her, including things like her Poneglyphs and wedding cakes. Should she personally target someone, Big Mom's pride will cause her to get extremely angry if someone prevents her from attacking to the point of pushing the obstacle aside even if it is one of her children.[74]

She coldly discards her husbands once their children are born, never giving them the chance to either hug them or take part in raising them. This is because she considers them "outsiders" to the family, even passing this belief down to her children who don't care for their fathers or step-fathers.[75]

Having been abandoned by her parents and Carmel's "disappearance", Big Mom has severe abandonment issues. She will not allow anyone from either her crew or her country to leave her side alive and will ensure they die rather than leave.

While she claims to desire to bring peace to the world, she enjoyed causing chaos and bloodshed out of sadistic amusement. She laughed wholeheartedly when Kaido beheaded his long-time ally Orochi without mercy. Additionally, despite her ambition to create a nation where all races can live together, Big Mom herself is not above discrimination as shown by her treatment against her own daughter Pudding for her third eye, which Big Mom herself finds creepy, and even cruelly convinced her to grow her bangs to cover it. She also referred to both Brook and Chopper as nothing more than exotic pets for her collection rather than treating them as actual people.

DelusionsEdit

If you obey me, everyone will live in happiness, if you disobey, it means you are selfish bad person, so I must kill you!
— Linlin's delusional thinking since childhood.

Big Mom's insanity also extends to her own delusional mentality. Despite her tremendous cruelty and sadism, Big Mom is completely delusional about herself. She considers herself a "kind queen" of her country, despite everything in it being meant to satisfy her own demands over what her children and subjects want. Despite being the most selfish individual herself, Big Mom accuses all people who refuse to comply with her egocentric demands of being selfish and believes she has the right to kill them as punishment. For example, she would cruelly punish invitees to her Tea Parties that were unable to attend, no matter the reasons, and she tried to force her daughter Lola to marry someone she did not want to, still holding a grudge towards her to this day for refusing to marry and running away. Despite many people following her orders, she believes no one listens to her. When crying while thinking of Carmel, Big Mom cursed the Straw Hat Pirates for opposing her by destroying the wedding cake as well as Carmel's portrait, when she was the one who provoked them to begin with by coercing their chef Sanji into becoming a sacrifical pawn in her Vinsmoke's assasination plan by holding Zeff hostage as well as intending to have them killed. After reading the news about Luffy's actions in her territory, she thought the idea of Luffy's victory was absurd even though she had clearly been humiliated by his actions.

Psychological CrisisEdit

Where did you go, Mother?!
— The reason for Linlin's breakdown.

Big Mom Screams and Releases Her Haoshoku Haki

Big Mom suffers a mental breakdown.

Big Mom is incredibly attached to Carmel, and became deeply heartbroken when the Holy Mother and other orphans of Sheep's House disappeared on her sixth birthday celebration. Her adoration of Carmel is so strong than, more than 60 years after her disappearance, Big Mom still places a portrait of her in front of an empty seat during all Tea Parties. If this portrait is damaged in any way, Big Mom will enter a psychological crisis, falling to her knees in tears and crying for Carmel to return. Unaware of the fact that she was responsible for Carmel's death, Big Mom would wallow in despair at her disappearance during her crisis, questioning where she is and why she disappeared. In this state, Big Mom becomes completely unaware of her surroundings, even when in danger, as seen when Bege attempted to assassinate her.

Although Big Mom's emotional distress at Carmel's disappearance is critical, she takes her love of sweets to an equal level of importance, as she entered a state of confusion between her mental breakdown and her eating disorder when both Carmel's portrait and the wedding cake were destroyed by the Straw Hats. In this state she became completely unresponsive to everything around her, only reacting when Luffy showed her the damaged portrait again, at which point Big Mom's mental state tipped over to her psychological crisis and she started to cry. She was so angry at the destruction of the only portrait of Carmel that she swore to never forgive the Straw Hat Pirates.

O-LinEdit

For the chapter of the same name, see Chapter 945.
What's a "Big Mom"? Is that a tasty treat?
— In her amnesiac state, Linlin doesn't even remember her epithet.[76]

Big Mom Goes to Udon

Linlin's friendlier personality after becoming amnesiac.

During her invasion of Wano Country, Big Mom fell into the ocean, washing up unconscious on a beach in Wano. Perhaps due to her already fragile psyche, she became amnesiac after waking up, unable to remember who or where she was.[77] While in this state, under the name O-Lin (おリン O-Rin?), her personality reverted to that of her childhood self, becoming far more friendly and pleasant, thanking Tsuru for the food she gave her[78], and being grateful to the poor people of Okobore Town for being nice to her, despite them being unable to give her more food.[79] Even her gluttony seems to have diminished: while she is still prone to violence when denied the food she desires (as seen when she angrily attacked both Queen and Luffy after not obtaining the oshiruko she wanted), she is far more considerate of others, as she wanted the oshiruko not just for herself, but to share with the people of Okobore Town.[80]

Besides her nicer demeanor, other aspects of her childhood personality have returned with her amnesia: she is once again easily manipulated by food, as Chopper was able to convince her to go to Udon by promising she would find more oshiruko there[81], and unwittingly violent, as shown when she tamed a crocodile-shark to carry them by hitting it.[82] She eventually seemed to regain her memories after being hit in the head by Queen, at which point she immediately reverted to her cruel and selfish nature, claiming that Okobore Town was a "filthy town" and giving Queen a menacing look.[83]

RelationshipsEdit

FamilyEdit

Big Mom has 46 sons, 39 daughters, and 43 husbands, the latter of whom are scattered all around the world.[84] From her 85 children, Big Mom also has some grandchildren, such as Capone Pez.[85]

ParentsEdit

Charlotte Linlin's Parents

Linlin's parents.

When she was a little girl, Linlin innocently looked up to her parents and believed anything they told her. Because of her uncontrollable behavior, her parents were ultimately forced to abandon her because of the many atrocities she caused to her homeland. Her mother cried after leaving her and both parents were hopeful that their daughter could live a better life under Mother Carmel's care.[86]

At first, Linlin seemed to be optimistic regarding their departure, believing they would return for her, even after a long period of absence. She eventually gave up and went to the Sheep's House without any signs of sadness nor anger to her now long-gone parents. Being attached to Carmel and eventually starting her own tyrannically matriarchal family, she never seemed to have any more mention of her parents.[86]

ChildrenEdit

Soru Soru no Mi Infobox

Linlin attacking her 16th son Moscato.

According to Charlotte Pudding, Big Mom marries her children off in order to strengthen her own crew and does not give them a choice in the matter. In addition to this, they are fully aware of how stubborn she can be, and Pudding herself claims that most of them have already given up on their dreams of marrying someone of their own volition, knowing they cannot displease her. However, Lola was undeterred from finding a husband of her own and left the New World to find one, though Lola was carefree and ignorant of the extent of her mother's cruelty.[87]

While Big Mom has a lot of children, she does not put a lot of work into raising nor enforcing any moral limits to them (if anything, she encourages their cruelty). She allowed Anana to get a knife to mutilate her stuffed toys, even at the protest of her other children who told her not to encourage violent and psychotic behavior. Big Mom just brushes it off by saying that it is natural and that everyone should get along.[71]

Big Mom Abuses Chiffon

Linlin unfairly abusing her 22nd daughter Chiffon.

While most of her children are very loyal to her demands, Big Mom views them as a means to an end and only cares about them as long as they are obedient and do not stand in her way. When she entered one of her craving-induced rampages, Big Mom did not recognize Moscato as her 16th son and attacked him for blocking her path, taking away some of his lifespan in the process.[88] Moreover, should any of her children defy her in any way, she will desire to have them killed without hesitation or remorse. She absolutely loathes her disobedient daughter, Lola, as her running away from a political marriage with the Elbaf prince Loki ruined Big Mom's one opportunity to make peace with the giants and gain the power to defeat the other three Emperors and become the Pirate King. She even labelled Lola as a criminal of Totto Land and would have her executed if she returns. Linlin also plans to send an assassin after her if she ever acquires Lola's current location. Her hatred for Lola even extends to Chiffon, Lola's twin sister, simply because of their resemblance. Big Mom unfairly abused Chiffon brutally and left her with wounds that never healed, especially whenever Chiffon showed her face to her. This led Chiffon to lose affection for her mother and to side with Capone Bege in his plan to assassinate Big Mom.[89] In fact, just by seeing Lola's image in Chiffon is enough to cause Big Mom to go berserk with even greater rage. Lola, on the other hand, is unaware of her mother's hatred for her and still believes herself to be an accepted member of the Charlotte Family.[90] Notably, Lola is the only known child in the Charlotte Family to be completely unaware of Big Mom's willingness to harm her own children. In fact, Big Mom is willing to allow her children to be bullied by others without any concern for their well being as shown during Pudding and Katakuri's childhoods, and Brûlée was once brutally scared across her face by Katakuri's bullies.

Some of her children have proven to be more rebellious than most. Lola chose to leave to find a spouse of her own rather than of her mother's choice for her. Chiffon and Praline were more than willing to let their mother die in Bege's plan and Praline even went as far as to help disable her crew's territorial sea slugs to hinder their efforts to track their enemies. After Pudding fell in love with Sanji, she herself helped him and his friends escape her mother's wrath.

Due to Big Mom's extremely ruthless and brutal behavior, most of her children are completely terrified of her and do their best not to anger her. Opera fears that she will kill him if she discovers that he failed to stop Jinbe[91] and Brûlée was afraid that she would be murdered by Big Mom if she were considered an associate of the Fire Tank Pirates in their plot to assassinate her.[92][93] Smoothie chose not to inform her mother about Jinbe's revolt due to not wanting to have to deal with her mother's rage, knowing she would react violently to the news.

Among her many children, Big Mom appears to have favorites. Pudding is one such child, due to her tremendous acting skills and also her third eye, which has the potential to read the Poneglyphs. Pudding reciprocates this affection with loyalty to her mother, willingly putting up an act in front of Sanji and his family in order to convince them of Big Mom's commitment to their alliance. They also share a similar lust for violence, gleefully discussing the details of their plan to massacre the Vinsmokes during the ceremony.[54] Big Mom also selected a certain few of her children and appointed them ministers within her territory, as well as further elevating Snack, Cracker, Smoothie, and Katakuri to the posts of Sweet Commander within her crew, showing her trust and respect for their worth and talents. However, when Snack lost to Urouge, she demoted him for his failure to live up to his duties even though she sent an army to avenge him.

Nevertheless, Big Mom has displayed some form of care for her children, as she was enraged to learn of Snack and Cracker's defeats and summoned a storm in response while having an army chase after their attackers (though in her conversation with Sanji, she referred to Cracker as a Sweet Commander rather than her son, suggesting she was only angry over the fact that her commander was defeated rather than her son was harmed). She also refused to believe that her eldest son Perospero had lied about the Straw Hats having a spare wedding cake.

However, even Big Mom's favorite children do not completely escape her cruelty. When Pudding was a little girl, Big Mom ridiculed her third eye and advised her to cover it up, which has negatively affected how Pudding views herself even up to the present day. Pudding herself seems to realize this, as Big Mom seems to only value her as a tool for her potential to read the Poneglyphs. She is also quick to remind them of their place when they annoy her; when Katakuri steps in to attack Luffy before she can, she berates him as a "lowly child" and begins to scold him before he explains himself to her.[94]

Notably, Big Mom recognized both Chiffon and Pudding and even called out their names during one of her craving rampages, contradicting earlier assertions that she could not recognize her children or anybody else during her episodes.[95]

Ex-HusbandsEdit

They're born now... You've served your purpose.
— Linlin's reason for even having husbands.[96]

Big Mom Casts Pound Away

Big Mom casts Pound aside after the birth of Chiffon and Lola.

Linlin would outright abduct[97] her 43 husbands solely to conceive children with them. During the term of her pregnancy, said husband of the current year stays with her, but upon successfully giving birth, she would swiftly discard the husband, without so much as allowing him to hold the child or children once, let alone taking a part in raising them.[98][96] All of them meant nothing to her as she considered them to be "outsiders" who have no connection to the Charlotte Family, a mentality she passed down to some of her children, whom she gave permission to kill these ex-husbands.[99] Her 25th ex-husband, Pound, was one to suffer such a treatment, being cast aside without so much as a notice beforehand once Linlin gave birth to their twin daughters, not even permitting the man to hold his daughters at least once,[96] and then later permitting Cracker to kill him.[99]

Crew and Other SubordinatesEdit

Big Mom's subordinates call her "Mama" (ママ Mama?),[100][101] and most seem to be afraid of her.[102][103] So far, only Bobbin appears to be unafraid of her, to the point of even having a friendly chat with Big Mom after returning to Whole Cake Island.[104] Big Mom has scolded Tamago for being willing to negotiate over payments promised to her.[105] However, she does seem to value him as she wanted to punish Pedro for scarring one of Tamago's eyes.[106] Streusen was the first crewmate to have joined Big Mom after persuading her to be a pirate.[107]

To sail with or under Big Mom, new allied crews must form a familial connection with the crew;[108] because of this policy, the patriarch of the Vinsmoke Family arranged for his third son to be wed to the 35th daughter of the Charlotte Family.[109] However, in the event that a bride or groom from an outside family has multiple existing affiliations, they must sever connections that are external to the political agreement; this was the case with Sanji, with Pekoms revealing that Big Mom is only interested in Sanji's status as a Vinsmoke, rather than his present membership of the Straw Hat Pirates.[110] Big Mom will not allow her subordinates to leave her service, despite claiming otherwise.[111] The roulette she uses to determine the price they must pay for leaving is rigged to ensure that the victim will always die.[112]

Big Mom does not seem to tolerate failure in regards to her crew, even her own children, as Snack was demoted from his position as Sweet Commander after his defeat at the hands of Urouge. Opera and Brûlée were terrified if Big Mom found out they failed in their mission to stop the Straw Hats from escaping, knowing she would kill them if she knew the truth.

Individuals like Cracker and Pudding have no fear of Big Mom and are fiercely loyal to her. Brûlée even gloated to enemies about how untouchable Big Mom is and stating that it is suicidal to fight against her.[113] Katakuri will even eliminate any possible threat he senses to Big Mom as he killed Jigra once he foresaw him attempting to assassinate the Emperor.

StreusenEdit

Streusen first met Linlin when she was six years old. After witnessing Linlin's actions that caused the disappearance of Carmel and the other orphans, Streusen believed it would be a waste to let her die and approached her in a friendly and helpful fashion. The two formed the Big Mom Pirates together.[114]

In the present time, Streusen respects Linlin's authority and acts humble towards her. In turn, she admires his culinary skills.[32] He was worried for her safety when Bege and the Firetank Pirates were about to assassinate her, and begged her to come to her senses.[115] Like all of Linlin's subordinates and allies, Streusen addresses her by her titles of "Mama" or "Big Mom",[116][117] but he has used her given name. Unknown to Big Mom, he knows what caused Carmel's disappearance, having witnessed the act and being amused by it.[118]

HomiesEdit

The Homies are created by Big Mom's Devil Fruit powers; as such, they are very loyal to her.[119] She spends most of her time around her food-based homies, whom she frequently eats,[120] and while they may be afraid of death, they will not mind being eaten as long as their flavor is appreciated.[121] Despite their loyalty, homies are not above questioning Big Mom, such as when she goes on one of her craving rampages and threatens the lives of civilians and other homies.[122] This loyalty partially stems from fear, as homies naturally fear Big Mom's powerful soul[123] and will be forced to obey anyone who holds her Vivre Card since it also exudes the essence of her powerful soul, which only they can sense.[124] Out of all her homies, Big Mom seems to be most familiar with her bicorne hat, Napoleon, which acts as an adviser or informant by keeping her up to date on recent occurrences and her plans.[125] However, even Napoleon is not above questioning Big Mom, as demonstrated when it begged her to stop her senseless violence during her rampage in Sweet City.[126] Napoleon, Zeus, and Prometheus are three special Homies created from Big Mom's own soul fragments, granting them a higher level of power than other Homies,[127] and they even sleep in the same room as her, acting as her bodyguard and attacking anything that disturbs her.[128]

However, even her most loyal homies can disobey her, as Zeus briefly sided with the Sanji Retrieval Team during their escape and was used as an attack against Big Mom due to its liking for Nami's thunder clouds. During the chase for the Straw Hats, Zeus was defeated and captured by Nami and Brook, costing Big Mom one of her most powerful homies. After escaping Totto Land, Zeus officially decided to stay with Nami in her clima-tact, thereby cutting ties with Big Mom and becoming an ally of her enemies. However, one of Big Mom's objectives when she is heading to Wano Country is to get Zeus back.[129] She eventually managed to reclaim him from Nami at Onigashima, although she still threatened Zeus with destroying him if he went soft on Nami.[130]

ProtectoratesEdit

With her capitalist mindset, Big Mom only imparts protection upon her chosen territories for as long as they can meet the demanded candy tribute and will not hesitate to have them destroyed if they are unable to pay it.[131] Her idea of "protection" specifically offers only protection from external pirate attacks, as Pekoms stated that the local uprising on Fish-Man Island was none of his crew's concern.[132] The sweets produced by Fish-Man Island were a particular favorite of hers.[133] She refuses to give any period of grace under normal circumstances, but was willing to do so once for Fish-Man Island simply because she was amused by Luffy standing up to her.[48][49] Upon knowing that one of the treasures offered as compensation is the Tamatebako, a national treasure of Fish-Man Island, Big Mom got so excited that she decided to completely forgo the island's failure to give its monthly candy tribute, showing that she is occasionally willing to accept alternative forms of payment if it is something that catches her interest.[134]

Totto LandEdit

Big Mom is the queen of the 34 island archipelago of Totto Land. As such, she rules the whole country and seems to be well respected by the civilians all across the islands. Due to her desire to create a nation free of discrimination, various races of people live in her country. For the most part, the civilians seem to enjoy living under her domain.

Despite this, Big Mom seems to care very little to none at all for the well-being of her citizens in her country. She forces every citizen of Totto Land to give up one month of their lifespan every six months in order to live in her country. During her early years of making her dream country, she razed villages to the ground and forced people to live in her country while promising to kill them if they do not agree with her. True enough, Big Mom causes a lot of collateral damage when her eating disorder acts up. Even after regaining her senses, she shows no concern for either her people or her city.

Like with her crew, Big Mom will not allow anyone to leave her country. While she will happily welcome all those that come, she will kill all that try to leave her country, being uncaring for the reason.

Furthermore, while her country is meant to have no discrimination, Big Mom is very hypocritical about that concept, as she ridiculed her daughter Pudding for her third eye and coldly told her to grow out her bangs to cover it up. Pudding was also regularly bullied and ridiculed by other children while Big Mom did nothing to help her. Katakuri also received similar treatment, having been shunned due to his eel-like mouth which resulted him to hide his face with a scarf. Brûlée was even scarred by other children just for being related to Katakuri. This also extends to her collection of rare creatures, as Big Mom loves collecting rare looking creatures or people and traps them in books for her own twisted amusement while uncaring towards their suffering.

During her rampage for the wedding cake, many citizens began to question their devotion towards Big Mom after she destroyed hundreds of homes throughout Nuts Island. Believing she was going to destroy her own kingdom, several citizens attempted to escape her country.

EnemiesEdit

Vinsmoke FamilyEdit

Mama's original goal was to get an Army of Clone Soldiers, on your scientific power. We know all of you will never obeyed us and we don't really need you. The entire Germa Kingdom is now in our territory. All went just as Mama planned. At tomorrow's wedding, all six Vinsmokes will be massacred.
— Pudding on Big Mom's Vinsmoke assasination plan.

Big Mom initially pretended to be cordial and accommodating to the Vinsmoke Family under the guise of wanting to form an alliance with them.[135][110] Through the family, she plans to gain access to the advanced battle technology employed by its army, Germa 66.[136] In turn, Judge wants to use her forces to conquer the North Blue once more and re-establish the empire of the Vinsmoke Family.

Despite the "alliance", however, Judge dislikes Big Mom as a person and views her as a "madwoman". For this reason, he deliberately sought out his estranged son Sanji in order to meet her demands for a blood connection to her family, as he refused to give her one of his "precious" sons.[137]

After Judge and his children arrived at the Whole Cake Chateau, Big Mom treated them as her guests, having lunch with them and giving them a tour of her library. However, Big Mom also dislikes Judge and his family, referring to them as the "annoying leadership" of her true desire, the cloning technology of the Germa 66.[138] In fact, Big Mom never intended to form an alliance with the Vinsmoke family in the first place and planned on murdering Judge and his children from the start in order to gain full control of the Germa army of clones. Judge, for his part, also intended to effectively take Charlotte Pudding hostage after the wedding as leverage against Big Mom. As such, neither of them had good intentions for the other, which they hid under the guise of civility.

At the wedding, Big Mom was anticipating the assassination of the entire Vinsmoke Family, but during the ensuing chaos caused by Luffy, her intention to murder the Vinsmoke Family was revealed. Judge was extremely distraught at this treachery and even cried.[139] After Big Mom's assassination plot was thwarted, all of the Vinsmokes became her enemies. Judge later attacked Big Mom directly, cursing her in extreme anger for crushing his dreams and betraying him. However, Big Mom simply smiled at his anguish, told him to die for her own dreams, and proceeded to calmly shatter his spear before smiting him with a bolt of Zeus' lightning. She also personally attempted to kill Reiju twice during the confrontation and later effortlessly subdued Niji and Yonji when they tried to rescue Judge. She then prepared to execute the entire Vinsmoke Family along with their allies before being interrupted by the Whole Cake Chateau collapsing.[140]

Monkey D. LuffyEdit

Big Mom Blocks Gear Fourth

Big Mom clashes with Luffy.

When she sent her subordinates to collect the monthly candy tribute from Fish-Man Island and called them after learning that they may not receive it, Luffy picked up the Den Den Mushi and claimed that he was responsible for the island's lack of candy. Big Mom accused him of lying and initially refused the treasure that he offered as compensation, but admitted that he had nerve for standing up to her and decided to target him instead of Fish-Man Island. In response, Luffy declared that he would defeat her in the New World and claim Fish-Man Island as his own territory because he could not leave Fish-Man Island under the protection of someone who would destroy it on a whim.[141] However, much later, Big Mom had discovered that the Tamatebako was among the treasures that Luffy gave to her, so Big Mom decided to show remission to Luffy as the Tamatebako was enough for her to let go of the entire matter.

Luffy's friction with Big Mom further intensified when he discovered that she had coerced Sanji into a political marriage with one of her daughters by threatening to kill Zeff, whom Luffy is also friendly with, if Sanji refused to comply which would result in him leaving the Straw Hat Pirates. Knowing this, Luffy decided to sneak onto Whole Cake Island and ruin the ceremony.[142]

Although she views herself as much stronger than him, Big Mom apparently does not underestimate Luffy's strength, feeling the need to have Cracker, one of her most powerful children, aid Brûlée in dealing with Luffy's group.[143] At the same time, she seems to view him as a worthy opponent, looking somewhat disappointed when informed that Cracker would definitely defeat him.[144] Upon learning that Cracker was defeated, Big Mom's rage towards Luffy swelled as she unleashed a ferocious storm and sent an army to battle him.[145] When Luffy and Nami were captured and imprisoned, Big Mom contacted them through a Den Den Mushi and told Luffy that she was willing to let him and his crewmates leave safely due to her promise to Sanji, but threatened them to show them "hell" if they ruined Sanji and Pudding's wedding ceremony.[73] This turned out to be false, as Pudding informed Luffy and Nami that they would die along with Sanji. However, unbeknownst to Big Mom, Luffy escaped capture and aligned with Capone Bege to overthrow her during the wedding ceremony.

Big Mom was later shocked at Luffy's presence at the wedding ceremony and was enraged when he destroyed the wedding cake she was looking forward to eating before reflecting on Luffy's previous threats to her. She searched for the real Luffy among his duplicates and after he identified himself, she moved to attack him. When her second son, Charlotte Katakuri intervened and immobilized Luffy, Big Mom reprimanded him for his actions as she wanted to personally crush Luffy herself, but became horrified and shocked when she learned that he was aiming for Carmel's portrait.[94]

As Linlin reminisced her past about Carmel, she swore to never forgive the Straw Hat Pirates for destroying the only portrait she had of Mother Carmel.[115] After drawing Luffy out of Bege's castle body, she then proceeded to mock him by calling him a coward for running away, prompting him to attack her in anger. Luffy then declared that he would defeat her after taking down Kaido, causing her to laugh in amusement while telling him that he could not hope to defeat him before assuring him that he would not even make it out of her territory alive. When Luffy fell unconscious as a result of activating Gear Fourth, Big Mom prepared to execute him before being interrupted by the explosion of the Tamatebako box.[146]

Later, after entering another frenzy due to being denied the opportunity to eat the wedding cake, she furiously pursued Luffy and the Straw Hats to the edge of Whole Cake Island under the false belief that they stole a replacement cake (courtesy of Perospero's lies).[36]

After regaining her senses from eating the wedding cake, she made it her priority to kill Luffy and get his soul, knowing that she can create powerful homies out of it.[147] After suffering the humiliation of Luffy escaping her territory after the latter had caused immense havoc by ruining her Tea Party and Vinsmoke assassination plans, Big Mom furiously swore revenge against him.[148] She stabbed Luffy's new wanted poster to vent her anger and frustration for the humiliation she suffered and contacted Kaido to explain her desire to be the one who kills Luffy.[149] True to her word, Linlin personally traveled all the way to Wano Country with some of her strongest children to kill Luffy and his crew, even though there is a risk of conflict with the Emperor Kaido.[150] Upon meeting Chopper at Onigashima with her memories restored, Big Mom went berserk with immense anger and angrily demanded Chopper and Usopp to hand their captain over as she chased them down.

When the two finally meet again at the Live Stage, when Big Mom mocked Luffy and his allies attempt to bring down Kaido, Luffy countered this statement, by pointing out this was an all-out war against all hostile forces in Wano, including Big Mom herself.[151]. Big Mom was furthered enraged when she admitted she had gotten tired of Luffy ruining every festivity she had been trying to enjoy ever since they first met.[152]

SanjiEdit

In order to gain access to the technology of Germa 66,[136] Big Mom falsely agreed to an alliance with Vinsmoke Judge.[110] In accordance with her usual terms, she demanded a family connection to seal the alliance, so Judge offered his third son, Sanji, to wed her 35th daughter, Charlotte Pudding.[109][135] Because of this, Big Mom primarily refers to Sanji as "the Germa boy"[61] and coercing the latter into obedience by threatening Zeff's life. She has ordered her subordinates to ensure that Luffy and his team do not succeed in meeting up with Sanji on Whole Cake Island.[70]

However, in addition to his political value as a member of the Vinsmoke Family, Big Mom has great respect for Sanji's cooking skills and his pirating exploits as a member of the Straw Hats; Tamago further intimates that, if Sanji cooperates with the wedding, it is likely that Big Mom will offer him an even better position within her crew than the one he currently enjoys with the Straw Hats. Sanji, however, flat-out rejected this offer.[153]

After finally consenting to marrying Pudding, Sanji asked Big Mom to spare his friends, which she readily agreed to do as long as Sanji married her daughter.[154] However, Sanji later overheard Pudding reveal that the wedding is actually a setup, and that Big Mom's true intention was to kill him and his family and take their technology for herself. Pudding also claimed that the Straw Hats will not leave the island alive either, meaning that Big Mom never intended to keep her promise with Sanji.[54] Big Mom herself later confirms this as she discusses her plans with Pudding, mocking Sanji as she excitedly imagines his brutal death at the altar.[155] Having learnt the truth, Sanji reunited with Luffy and joined his captain's plans to crash the wedding and ruin Big Mom's plans.[156]

As Linlin reminisced her past about Carmel, she swore to never forgive the Straw Hat Pirates for destroying the only portrait she had of Mother Carmel.[115] After the allied forces are defeated and Sanji gets trapped in Perospero's candy, Big Mom prepared to execute him before being interrupted by the explosion of the Tamatebako box.

Later, after entering another frenzy due to being denied the opportunity to eat the wedding cake, she furiously pursued Sanji and the Straw Hats to the edge of Whole Cake Island under the false belief that they stole a replacement cake (courtesy of Perospero's lies).

BrookEdit

Brook Captured by Big Mom

Big Mom's reaction to her new collectable.

Upon seeing Brook, Big Mom immediately became fascinated with him and wants to capture him alive to add him to her collection.[157] Big Mom overpowered and questioned Brook as to why he was trying to steal the Poneglyph and mocked him for his intentions but Brook responded to not underestimate his crew. Big Mom defeated Brook and mocked him by petting him as the latter felt humiliated for his defeat. Big Mom held high praises for Brook's strength, calling his fighting wonderful as well as being able to injure her strongest homies for the first time.

Big Mom is extremely fond of Brook to the extent that she chose to carry the Straw Hat musician by her side like a toy instead of placing him in her library collection of rare creatures right away. Even when she went to bed at night, she chose to carry Brook in her hands while sleeping. When Brook was replaced by a skeletal lookalike, Big Mom thought he had died and cried hysterically, although she got over him via the thought of eating wedding cake.[158]

At the wedding, she was surprised to see him still alive as he revealed himself after destroying Mother Carmel's portrait, causing her to go into shock, while stammering at Brook for his act of attacking the photo.[159]

As Linlin reminisced her past about Carmel, she swore to never forgive the Straw Hat Pirates for destroying the only portrait she had of Mother Carmel.[115]

NamiEdit

Since Nami is also part of the Sanji Retrieval Team, Big Mom is Nami's enemy as well. After learning of Nami's friendship with her estranged daughter, Lola, Big Mom furiously demanded Lola's whereabouts so she could send an assassin to kill Lola.[160] However, Nami refused to betray Lola so Big Mom assigned her 5th son Opera to force information out of Nami.[161]

As Linlin reminisced her past about Carmel, she swore to never forgive the Straw Hat Pirates for destroying the only portrait she had of Mother Carmel.[115] Later, after entering another frenzy due to being denied the opportunity to eat the wedding cake, she furiously pursued Nami and the Straw Hats to the edge of Whole Cake Island under the false belief that they stole a replacement cake (courtesy of Perospero's lies). During the chase, Nami further enraged Big Mom when she managed to draw Zeus away with her thunder clouds, harnessed its power with her Clima-Tact, and directly attacked Big Mom herself with a incredibly powerful surge of lightning.

PedroEdit

Despite being enemies due to Pedro invading her territory, Big Mom developed a respect for him after the latter tried convincing her against taking his lifespan by removing his eye, causing her to not take away his entire lifespan.[162] However, due to his involvement with the Sanji Retrieval Team in the present day, she once again attempted to kill him along with his new allies when she finally encountered them in person.

JinbeEdit

Sometime after the Battle of Marineford, Big Mom allowed former Warlord Jinbe and his crew to serve under her by having her daughter Charlotte Praline marry Aladine.[163] This was enacted in part due to Big Mom placing Fish-Man Island under her protection, though she allowed the Sun Pirates to generally do as they pleased. However, Jinbe is not loyal to her and is considering severing ties with the Big Mom Pirates, but worries of what Big Mom will do to Fish-Man island.[164] Jinbe has told the Straw Hats that he will join them once he settles his business with Big Mom.[165] When Jinbe appeared before her with important matters, Big Mom immediately assumed that he intended to leave the Big Mom Pirates[166] and, upon having her suspicions confirmed, demanded that he give up something in return.[167] The next day, it is later said in a newspaper that Jinbe retracted his intention of leaving her service. This was due to having the (correct) feeling that the roulette itself was designed for ensuring the death of those who spin it. Furthermore, Jinbe later learned that the numbers on which the roulette may land signal additional allies or friends that will be executed, along with the person who originally spun the roulette.[168]

Jinbe later fulfilled his intention of leaving Big Mom by attacking Charlotte Opera as well as freeing a captive Luffy and Nami, which he notes was an act of rebellion to which there was no turning back. Jinbe also persuaded Luffy and his friends to join Capone Bege in his plot to overthrow Big Mom at the Tea Party. Big Mom was angered upon seeing Jinbe at the wedding ceremony with the Straw Hats. After Jinbe officially declared his intention to leave the Big Mom Pirates in order to join Luffy's crew, Big Mom attempted to take away Jinbe's lifespan. Her power had no effect on him due to him having no fear towards her, which he explains by saying that he was joining the crew of the future Pirate King before officially leaving her services. In response to his defiance, Big Mom was further enraged and resorted to brute force.[169]

As Linlin reminisced her past about Carmel, she swore to never forgive Jinbe nor the Straw Hat Pirates for destroying the only portrait she had of Mother Carmel.[115] Later, after entering another frenzy due to being denied the opportunity to eat the wedding cake, she furiously pursued Jinbe and the Straw Hats to the edge of Whole Cake Island under the false belief that they stole a replacement cake (courtesy of Perospero's lies).

When they later met again at Onigashima, Big Mom swore revenge against Jinbe for his previous actions of devastating her fleet prior to his departure from Totto Land, a challenge that Jinbe accepted.[170]

Caesar ClownEdit

Girls Ship Infobox

Caesar squandering Big Mom's money on his own hedonism.

In the past, Caesar Clown was commissioned by Big Mom[171] to research and develop a viable method of gigantification. However, Caesar quickly concluded that such a goal is impossible to achieve even for him, and each time when Big Mom asked him about his progress, he simply requested more money to help further his research, only to spend it on hedonism instead.[172] When her crew attacked the Thousand Sunny to retrieve him, Caesar begged the Straw Hats to protect him from her, fearing she would discover the embezzlement should she capture him.[173] When she finally caught up with him, Caesar managed to convince her that his research had nearly been completed before it was destroyed by Luffy and Trafalgar Law during the Punk Hazard incident, but Big Mom merely revealed that she had constructed a replica of the required facility and would continue to offer more funding for him to rebuild and finish the gigantification drug within the fortnight that Caesar claimed he needed, making Caesar fear for what could be the last two weeks of his life.[174]

Caesar was eventually liberated from his servitude by Bege and joined in an alliance with the Fire Tank Pirates and Straw Hats to take Big Mom down.[175] For Bege's assassination plot, Caesar created three KX Launchers.

At the Tea Party and wedding, Caesar showed great excitement when Bege and his crewmates fired the KX Launchers at the vulnerable Big Mom after she started shrieking, but was shocked when the launchers exploded before they got to her. Caesar was in disbelief about the launchers being destroyed while cursing Big Mom, but he also noted that she is an Emperor.

When in Bege's Big Father form, Caesar was terrified when Big Mom started attacking the castle. He was also against going out to carry Bege and fly out of the chateau in fear of confronting Big Mom and her crew, even though the Vinsmoke Family chose to distract them. After the chateau collapsed and his heart returned to him, Caesar happily left the island.

Capone BegeEdit

Capone Bege and his crew became subordinates of Big Mom following the Battle of Marineford.[176] In order to seal the alliance, Bege married Charlotte Chiffon and had a son with her.[85] Bege appears to be loyal to Big Mom, as he followed her orders of bringing Caesar Clown and Sanji to her[177] and even shot Pekoms for trying to let Sanji go.[178] As a result of this loyalty, Big Mom appears to trust Bege implicitly, giving him the position of "Rook" and putting him in charge of security for Sanji and Pudding's wedding.[179]

Unbeknownst to Big Mom, Bege's reason to join her was to find any chances to kill her and claim her head.[180]

Upon recovering from her shock, Big Mom realized Bege's betrayal, and swiftly attacked Bege's fortress body, causing severe injuries to him.[181]

Gol D. RogerEdit

In the past, they clashed since she was part of Rocks Pirates.

Before Roger became a Pirate King, Roger managed to read one of the Road Poneglyph which was already in Big Mom's possession in his quest to reach Laugh Tale. Big Mom was aware that he was able to read it through his mysterious ability to hear the "voice of all things" and stated that she would be able to do the same, apparently referring to her daughter Pudding's third eye. Since Roger's attempt and success in reading her poneglyph, she vowed to not let anyone who managed to read her poneglyphs or have obtained a copy from them to get away.

MorgansEdit

Morgans was one of her guests at her Tea Party and treated him respectfully. The two seemed quite amiable with each other, as Morgans found her betrayal to the Vinsmoke Family amusing. However, as the chaos unfolded for her and her crew as the Straw Hats managed to escape, Morgans planned to reveal her humiliation to the world for a scoop. After escaping Totto Land, Morgans wrote an article glorifying Luffy by listing his exploits and saying he defeated her. Big Mom was furious and swore revenge against Morgans.

GiantsEdit

So you've finally done it, Linlin! You aren't qualified to give thanks to the sun...! Even if you are a child, there is a limit on how much one can forgive...!
— Jorul expressing his hatred for Linlin.

Linlin Kills Jorul

Linlin dishonorably wounding giant hero Jorul, a primary reason for the giants' hatred towards her.

When she was five years old, Linlin was originally accepted by the giants of Elbaf. It was the first time in her life she was able to stand next to people and buildings her size, although there were incidents of her uncontrollable strength coupled with her simple-mindedness causing quite some trouble, such as greatly injuring Eiri when she tried to swat a mosquito on him. However, friction between her and the giants began after she devastated a village because of her craving sickness. Jorul was enraged at her actions and labeled her as a devil, and attempted to cut her down only to be fatally injured by the rampaging Linlin and died as a result. Jarul was going to avenge Jorul, but spared Linlin because Mother Carmel begged him to.[86][182] After this incident, Big Mom is hated by every giant in the world and even those not of Elbaf came to hate her. When Linlin unknowingly made Mother Carmel and the Sheep's House orphans "disappear" at her 6th birthday party, a giant who witnessed the whole gruesome sight quickly fled the island and told everyone on Elbaf. From that day forward, the giants' hatred for Linlin grew even greater to the point that they even refrained from saying her name.[183]

Many years later, Linlin was given an opportunity to reconcile with them when the prince of Elbaf proposed to Lola; Big Mom was on the verge of tears of joy when it happened, as she also intended to integrate the army of Elbaf into her forces via this would-be union. However, because Lola ran away from the wedding and Big Mom's attempt to use Lola's twin sister Chiffon as a stand-in failed, her relationship with giants grew worse. After that, Linlin effectively gave up on trying to bring the giants to her side, and instead changed her focus to artificially gigantifying her family.[184] Despite ceasing her pursuits for real giants, Big Mom remains frustrated to this day for her failure to bring them over to her side and will be enraged when someone mentions giants around her as when Vinsmoke Judge mentioned how he did not see any in Totto Land. Linlin prefers not to publicly admit that there is not a single giant living among the racially diverse populace of Totto Land, as she swiftly claimed that Judge might have just missed them.[185] It was because of this disaster that Linlin developed a murderous hatred for Lola, to the point of unfairly mistreating Chiffon as well.

Four EmperorsEdit

As the Four Emperors are not allied to each other and Big Mom is seeking to become Pirate King, Big Mom wishes to take down her fellow Emperors, as she reflected that she could have defeated Kaido, Shanks, and Whitebeard had she formed an alliance with Elbaf. It is unknown if she thinks any differently of Blackbeard.[186]

KaidoEdit

In the past, Linlin and Kaido were once members in the legendary Rocks Pirates.[187][2] She appears to at least respect Kaido's power and seems to know about Kaido's true nature, as she brushed off Luffy's claim on taking him down. However, she also has a huge dislike for him, referring him as a "thing".[188] Kaido also did not seem to hold respect for Big Mom as he called her an "old hag".[189] However, Kaido seems to owe her a huge debt, which she said lasts for a lifetime. Kaido is also one of the few to call her by her actual name. During their conversation via Den Den Mushi, Kaido refused to cooperate with Big Mom when she requested him to let her kill Luffy and even threatened to kill her if she comes to Wano Country though she was unfazed by his threat and dared him to do so, showing herself to be totally unafraid of him.[190] When Big Mom and her crew arrived at Wano, Kaido feared that their presence could lead to an all-out war and quickly ordered his subordinates to stop them.[191] After she was escorted to Onigashima, Kaido allowed her to be freed from her shackles before clashing with her after saying that he would keep his promise of killing her for coming to Wano, to which she replied that she had no intention to die.

However, following their battle, Kaido and Big Mom found common ground in their dream of taking over the world that they had pursued as members of the Rocks Pirates, to which they temporarily put aside their differences in order to achieve said goal. They now act quite jovially around each other as they drank together and were excited about working together again, although they ultimately still wish to kill each other once they achieve their dream.[192]

OthersEdit

CarmelEdit

Carmel Teaches Linlin

Carmel acting as the first person to understand and forgive Linlin's good intentions.

Mother Carmel was the first person in Linlin's life who ever understood her. After her parents left her behind at Elbaf, Carmel took Linlin in and gave her a home with Carmel always forgiving Linlin regardless of what mistakes she made. Thus, Linlin became extremely attached to Carmel.[86] Big Mom referred to Mother Carmel as everybody's "mother" in her Tea Party.[193] Even in adulthood, Linlin would always put up her photo on the table every time she has her tea parties and she would go on a psychological rage if anyone were to just merely damage her portrait. Big Mom is very secretive about her relationship with Carmel that even her own children do not know the details. She will also get mad if people question her about her relationship to Carmel as shown when she used her Haoshoku Haki to knock out a curious guest. Upon Luffy showing Linlin Carmel's broken portrait, Linlin broke down crying while yelling out her strange shriek as she reminisced on her past.[194]

Unknown to Big Mom, Carmel was actually a child trafficker who planned to sell her off to the World Government after discovering her potential. Therefore, she never actually had any affection for Linlin (or any of the orphans).[195] Incidentally, Big Mom herself is unaware of her role in causing the disappearance of Carmel and the other children of Sheep's House.[196]

Linlin inherited Carmel's dream for a country where everybody could see eye to eye, but misunderstood it. She later contacted Caesar Clown and funded his gigantification research.

Sheep's House ChildrenEdit

Despite her current desire to coexist with other races, she showed a very limited understanding for her fellow Sheep's House residents of different races, trying to "fix" a longarm child and a fish-man child by removing a joint and a fin respectively. However, the children got along with Linlin because Carmel asked them to. Even after witnessing the destruction she caused at Elbaf, they held no hatred towards her like the giants and continued to live happily with her. On her sixth birthday, the children of Sheep's House prepared her croquembouche made of semla. She was filled with joy and cried as she dine on the sweets but was grief stricken when the other children and Carmel "disappeared".

GerdEdit

Gerd is a giant who lived on Elbaf during Linlin's childhood. When Gerd was a child, she became a close friend of the future Emperor. However, Gerd was utterly horrified when Linlin destroyed a village.

TamaEdit

While suffering amnesia in Wano, Linlin developed a close friendship with Tama due to their mutual love for oshiruko. As she invaded the Udon Prisoner Mine, Linlin called Tama to share oshiruko together after smelling the scent of it.

KingEdit

Even though King was responsible for almost killing the Big Mom Pirates when they tried to enter Wano, Linlin is willing to forgive him when she invited him to join her crew, since he is part of a race that is still not a part of Totto Land. Although he bluntly refused, she just called it a “shame” and laughed it off.
