"Chopper" is actually two deer, one that Usopp stole and a second that he was gifted. However, the first Chopper is never seen outside of his introduction, and the second Chopper acts as the Pirate Club's pet.
Chopper is a normal deer. He has two large horns on its head, and typically wears a rope leash.
There are actually two deer that Usopp refers to as "Chopper", though the only visual difference appears to be their horns. In the anime, the first Chopper also has spots along his back.[3]

Personality[]
Chopper has little defined personality, simply being a tamed deer. He is fairly docile, and sometimes enjoys playing fetch with Yamamoto Luffy.[4]

One Piece in Love[]
Nakatsugawa Usopp spotted Chopper while visiting the zoo with Yamamoto Luffy and Koyama Nami, and took it upon himself to "rescue" him. He took the deer and named him "Chopper", intent on having him join his "crew". During their visit, a lion escaped their enclosure, and Usopp knocked it unconscious with explosives.[3] As a thank you, the zoo gave Usopp a "better Chopper".[1]
Chopper continues to spend time with the Pirate Club, acting as an official member and the club's pet.[1]
Anime and Manga Differences[]
The anime appears to have dropped the "two Choppers" joke, with Usopp just bringing the first Chopper back to school.[5]
