For the Divine Breath as a religious symbol, see Religion#The Divine Breath.

The Divine Breath is an ancient weapon found by the Wandering Clan. It gathers and records information from around the world. The Wandering Clan used this recorded knowledge to study weather phenomena, but eventually overflowed the Divine Breath. It is the cause of the constant storms raging around Waford after its fall into the Blue Sea.

Alongside Adio Suerte, it acts as the final boss of One Piece Odyssey, and is the main antagonist of the Reunion of Memories expansion.

Appearance[]

The Divine Breath resembles a massive, robotic fish.

Abilities and Powers[]

Using its accumulated knowledge, the Divine Breath grants its wielder the ability to create and control all weather phenomena. It's powerful enough to have been compared to the Ancient Weapons, and even the possibility of it falling into Adio Suerte's hands caused the Five Elders to initiate a Buster Call on Waford.

Being able to fully control the things it creates, the Divine Breath can even combine elements. Adio Suerte was able to use this ability to combine lightning and sharp ice, bypassing Luffy's immunity to lightning and successfully shocking him.

The Divine Breath can also create a barrier around itself, making itself virtually indestructible. To cause it any damage, the barrier must first be damaged until it disappears, after which the Divine Breath will remain stuck on the ground for a short time.

Despite its seemingly immense power, the Divine Breath actually has no power of creation; it is simply a recording device, and stores information in the Large Mukashic Cube. When it seems to create elements, it actually takes Mukashic Cubes containing the required end result and replicates its stored memory.[3]

Techniques[]

  • Kaminari Uzu (雷渦, Kaminari Uzu?, literally meaning "Lightning Vortex"): The Divine Breath shoots off a small drone, which flies to the ground and start spinning while letting off electricity. After a short while, the drone forms a tornado with lightning. This attack is localized as Thunder Vortex.
  • Uzumaku Arashi Ha (渦巻く嵐刃, Uzumaku Arashi Ha?): The Divine Breath shoots off a small drone, which flies to the ground and starts rapidly spinning while letting off electricity. After a short while, the drone forms a large tornado with lightning. This attack is localized as Whirling Storm Blade.
  • Scorching Hellflame (?): The Divine Breath flies upwards into the clouds, before reversing and plummeting to the ground. While crashing downward, it spins its head incredibly fast, shooting out fire and creating a massive explosion on the ground below it.
  • Taiki ga Kogoe Hajimeta (大気が凍え始めた, Taiki ga Kogoe Hajimeta?, literally meaning "The air started to freeze"): The Divine Breath charges up ice around itself, which it uses in combination with its next attack. This attack is localized as The air begins to freeze.
  • Kogoeru Kaminari Yari (凍える雷槍, Kogoeru Kaminari Yari?, literally meaning "Frozen Thunder Spear"): The Divine Breath charges up a ball of lightning above its head before shooting it up into the clouds. Upon reaching the clouds, it supercharges them, creating giant ice spikes that rain down. This attack is localized as Freezing Lightning Spear.
  • Daichi ga Wakitatsu (大地が沸き立つ, Daichi ga Wakitatsu?, literally meaning "The earth boils"): The Divine Breath charges up fire inside its head, which it uses in combination with its next attack. This attack is localized as The earth begins to boil.

History[]

Past[]

In the past, the Divine Breath caused massive storms on and around Waford, intent on experimenting and seeing how the residents would react. At some point, Wandering Clan explorers found it in the Tower of Heaven and brought it back to Waford to stop the storms. They eventually persuaded it to stop by offering it their own research, which the Divine Breath accepted.[3]

200 years ago, the Divine Breath decided that it wanted to research the Blue Sea. To this end, it used puppets to contact the World Government, informing them of its existence and causing them to want to use it. Due to the war between the World Government and the Wandering Clan, Waford fell from the sky, and the Divine Breath fell alongside it. However, the Divine Breath was unaware that the Sky Priestesses were linked to it, and when Lim entered her slumber, the Divine Breath accompagnied her.[3]

More recently, Adio Suerte landed on Waford, intending to use the Divine Breath to destroy the World Government. To this end, he waited until a strong pirate crew arrived on the island, instructing Lim to remove their abilities so he could trick them into defeating the Colossi for him.

One Piece Odyssey[]

When the Straw Hat Pirates landed on Waford, Adio set his plan into motion, leading them to all four Colossi and allowing the Straw Hats to defeat them. With the seal around the Divine Breath removed, Adio went to claim the weapon, intending to use it to destroy a Buster Call the Five Elders had called to Waford. To this end, he took control of it with the Kote Kote no Mi, forcing it to obey his will.

Eventually, Adio was defeated by the Straw Hats, and his control over the weapon dissipated. Now fully freed, the Divine Breath began to rampage, attacking Adio and the Straw Hats indiscriminately. However, it was successfully defeated by the Straw Hats, and blew itself up, turning itself off.

Ultimately, Adio partially reactivated the Divine Breath, using it to divert the Buster Call from Waford. Through unknown means, the Divine Breath's physical body was destroyed,[4] though its consciousness still existed in the Large Mukashic Cube.[3] At some point, the wreckage of the Divine Breath's physical form washed ashore on Waford.

Reunion of Memories[]

Wanting to continue its studies, the Divine Breath and the Large Mukashic Cube forced the Straw Hat Pirates into Memoria, with the Large Mukashic Cube taking over Lim's clone's body. It warped the Memoria they entered, creating new, disastrous situations in Arabasta, Water 7, Enies Lobby, and Dressrosa, then watched the Straw Hats solve the issues and return the Memorias to normal.

However, Lim's clone was eventually able to break free of the Cube's control, and Rita Suerte successfully brought the Straw Hats to Archivio. When they returned to the Tower of Heaven, the Large Mukashic Cube summoned a copy of Enel to stop them, but it was defeated; ultimately, the pirates managed to destroy the Large Mukashic Cube as well, nearly destroying every Mukashic Cube on the island along with it.

Having been destroyed by Luffy, the Large Mukashic Cube exploded, though the blast was mitigated by a Mukashic Cube memory of Adio Suerte, using his Kote Kote no Mi abilities.

Trivia[]

  • The Divine Breath's name, 神の息吹 (Kami no Ibuki?), literally means "Breath of God".
