One Piece Wiki

The Doom Guardian is an entity created by the Great Tree by transforming Gaburi. The initial "present" intended for the Straw Hat Pirates after the clearing her ordeals, the Great Tree turned Gaburi into the Doom Guardian against his will to destroy the crew after getting corrupted by the fear of the dark side of humanity in Gaburi's memories. Although the Straw Hat Pirates managed to separate Gaburi from the Doom Guardian and ultimately get away from it, both Gaburi and the Doom Guardian would one day disappear if they remained apart. As such, the Straw Hat Pirates and Gaburi soon confronted the Doom Guardian once again to have Gaburi take it back from the Great Tree. In the ensuring confrontation, the Great Tree evolved the Doom Guardian into the more powerful Demon of Doom. Regardless, Gaburi managed to successfully remerge with the entity and become whole again.[2][3]

The Doom Guardian serves as the secondary antagonist of One Piece Unlimited Cruise 1: The Treasure Beneath The Waves and One Piece Unlimited Cruise 2: Awakening of a Hero.

Appearance[]

Doom Guardian Portrait

A close-up of the Doom Guardian's face.

The Doom Guardian bears a striking resemblance to the Evil Guardian, sharing a similar body build and size. It has white-gray skin and is covered in detailed, light golden armor. On the Doom Guardian’s torso it has blue and red veins, following its lateral muscles and most of its pectoral muscles, and has growing purple lines that outline the muscles on its abdomen. Across its pectorals, it has five golden discs with the one in the middle being extra decorated. On its back it has red and blue veins running up its spine. The spine itself is covered in several golden plates, running up to the neck. Its right shoulder is as well covered in a round, golden shoulder plate, and its left shoulder is a large purple orb containing Gaburi that covered in golden armor resembling a flower with six floating stone segments surrounding it.

Its upper arms has black skin on its muscle areas, and its lower arms are composed of several red and blue veins covered in detailed golden gauntlets that extend up to its knuckles. From its wristband, it has armor shaped like flower petals. Also, around its waist is a dark cyan-colored belt with a golden emblem on the front. It also has a blue loincloth with a golden edge and a brown piece of cloth hanging from the back. Its legs have as well glowing purple outlines on its leg muscles, and its kneecaps are black. The upper parts of its legs have a belt wrapped around them and the lower parts are wrapped in brown cloth. It also has blue and red veins as ankles, and flat and curved golden shoes.

On its head it wears a golden helmet with a red Mohawk. The opening in the helmet is decorated with a symbol resembling the Evil Guardian's, and only shows two purple eyes from a black interior. From under its helmet it has two white beard locks, each held together by a glowing purple tube. Finally, it has golden armor around its neck, with a blue vein on the right, and a red vein on the left that each extend up to each side of the helmet.

After splitting from Gaburi, the Doom Guardian's left shoulder got replaced with a red, yellow and pink colored orb, similar to the seeds from the Great Tree's ordeal trees, and its golden armor had turned darker.

In its evolved form, as the Demon of Doom, it has a much more slender, but still muscular, appearance while retaining its height. It possesses as well mostly normal body proportions, except for long arms, large hands, and big feet with two toes each. Almost its entire body is made up of red, blue and purple veins, with the red and blue veins appearing where there would be muscle tissue, and the purple veins appearing at its joints. Notably, its left shoulder is partly unraveled with a purple energy orb inserted at its joint. It also has a pale abdomen, which has several smaller veins running over it. Over its whole body are also several fragments of the Doom Guardian's armor attached to it. Also, its head is completely black with black smoke emitting from it and possesses no visible neck. Its black face only reveals two glowing, purple eyes.

Personality[]

Restore after reanalyzing data... Rebooting...
— The Doom Guardian restoring itself after evolving

The Doom Guardian displays little to no individuality or personality of its own, being little more than a mindless automaton following the will of the Great Tree herself. Due to being created in response to the Great Tree's fear of the darkness in humans, it displays a single-minded devotion towards eliminating "evil", which, to it, means all of humanity.[2][3]

Much like the Great Tree, it also showcases a manner of speaking similar to that of a computer, speaking out its processes and functionalities in an emotionless fashion. It does, however, show discomfort to physical damage.[3] Also, without Gaburi or the Great Tree to control it, it will go berserk.[2]

Abilities and Powers[]

The Doom Guardian has great physical strength, enabling it to effortlessly lift people and throw them into the ground with notable force, wield its massive maul with ease, and cause great damage with its attacks. It also has impressive speed for its size, being able to performing slow, but steady dashes for catching up to escaping opponents.[2][3]

The Doom Guardian can also create and manipulate a form of destructive purple energy. This allows the Doom Guardian to apply energies to its basic attacks, create a dark aura for unleashing shockwaves, and perform several energy-based attacks, such as orbs of energy that can home onto opponents, unleash energy columns from the ground, fire energy beams, or trigger wide explosions of energy. It can also call out its maul from thin air; it is unknown if it is another ability of the Doom Guardian's or just a game gimmick though.[2][3]

In terms of battle style, the Doom Guardian focuses on hindering its opponents' movements by launching techniques that stop them in their tracks or throws them off course, and then launch strong attacks against them while they are thrown off balance.

Following its evolution into the Demon of Doom, the Doom Guardian gained an increase in its physical attributes; its speed has increased to superhuman levels, allowing it to move in a manner similar to Soru. Its movement capabilities have also improved, making it far more agile and flexible, which allows it to perform several acrobatic feats, fighting styles, and assume nearly any like kind of physical position. It has also become more resilient to the Straw Hat Pirates' attacks. Following its evolution, its energy-based powers has also become much darker and denser, allowing it to give off dark and intense energy waves and constantly emit a dark aura.[3]

Akin to the Evil Master Beast, as the Demon of Doom, the Doom Guardian can mimic the techniques and fighting styles of its opponents and their associates and execute them flawlessly, should it be Devil Fruit powers, special skills or weapon arsenals. It can also create perfect copies of all kinds of weapons out of thin air instantly, and make them disappear just as easily, for techniques that require weapons.[3] Its fighting style as the Demon of Doom involves trapping its opponents with quick combo attacks and then assault them with refined and powerful techniques that have long range and can deal massive damage.

Doom Guardian Restores Itself

The Doom Guardian restoring itself from defeat.

Most prominently, the Doom Guardian can physically restore itself to perfect fighting condition after taking a beating, regardless of many times it is defeated. In fact, even after taking a beating from all the Straw Hat Pirates in its Demon of Doom form, and being physically decimated from the assault, it was able to restore itself in a matter of seconds. This allows it to fight indefinitely, making it a near-unstoppable opponent.[2][3]

Weapons[]

Doom Guardian's Hammer

The Doom Guardian's maul.

The Doom Guardian fights using a large maul. This weapon is as tall as the Doom Guardian itself. The head is rather large, slightly curved, and made of stone with several blue and red veins connecting it to the hilt. The hilt itself is purple with a golden joint between the head and the hilt, and has a golden orb for a pommel. In terms of proficiency with it, the Doom Guardian uses it in a rather basic and straightforward manner, namely by "hammering" opponents that get too close to it. It can also be used in in conjunction with its energy-based powers; when hammering it into the ground, the Doom Guardian can follow its strike up with the eruption of an energy column from the ground, no matter where its opponent might be standing.[2][3]

As the Demon of Doom, it makes used of several weapons with great proficiency. The weapons it uses are copies of those belonging to the Straw Hat Pirates and the numerous people they have met along their journey that the Doom Guardian can manifest at will. These weapons and their original owners include:

Techniques[]

  • Sabaki no Tettsui (裁きの鉄槌, Sabaki no Tettsui?, literally meaning "Hammer of Judgement"): The Doom Guardian lifts up its maul, and hammers down the unfortunate target with great force, unleashing a purple shockwave upon impact. If it charges up before attacking, the Doom Guardian can follow the strike up with a column of energy, erupting from the ground that can hit the opponent no matter where they are. This attack is called Hammer of Doom in English releases.
  • Hakai no Koso (破壊の光槍, Hakai no Kōsō?, literally meaning "Light Spear of Destruction"): The Doom Guardian points its left shoulder at the target and fires an intense and deadly purple energy beam from its shoulder that can hit the target from any distance. This attack is called Light Spear of Destruction in English releases.
  • Metsubo no Ame (滅亡の雨, Metsubō no Ame?, literally meaning "Rain of Ruin"): The Doom Guardian jumps into the air and releases several small orbs of purple energy from its left shoulder. These orbs will then automatically home onto the opponent, stopping them in their tracks upon impact while causing damage. This attack is called Rain of Ruin in English releases.
  • Ikari no Seisai (怒りの制裁, Ikari no Seisai?, literally meaning "Punishment of Anger"): The Doom Guardian dashes up to the opponent and grabs them with both hands. It then lifts the opponent above itself and throws them into the ground with great force, creating a purple shockwave upon impact. This attack is called Wrathful Punishment in English releases.
  • Shukyoku no Hikari (終極の光, Shūkyoku no Hikari?, literally meaning "Final Light"): The Doom Guardian's special attack. It begins a slow, but steady charge of energy, creating a large, black orb of energy above itself. One charged up, it releases the energy in a giant explosion, critically damaging everything caught within its range. This attack is called Ultimate Light in English releases.

After evolving, the Demon of Doom developed new techniques:

  • Longé & Poitrine & Collier Shoot (腰肉&胸肉&首肉シュート, Ronju & Powatorīnu & Korie Shūto?, literally meaning "Loin & Breast/Chest & Neck Shoot"): An attack copied from Sanji. This is three of Sanji's attacks executed as one technique. This attack retains its name in English releases:
    • Longé (腰肉ロンジュ, Ronju?, literally meaning "Loin"): A sweeping kick, usually performed from the back targeting the opponent's back, very useful for sending an opponent flying in preparation for another kick.
    • Poitrine (胸肉ポワトリーヌ, Powatorīnu?, literally meaning "Breast/Chest"): A stabbing kick straight into the opponent's chest. Can also be used in a series of kick.
    • Collier Shoot (首肉コリエシュート, Korie Shūto?, literally meaning "Neck Shoot"): The Demon of Doom jumps high into the air and lands a powerful kick to the opponent's neck.
  • Oni Giri (鬼斬り, Oni Giri?, literally meaning "Demon Slash"): An attack copied from Roronoa Zoro. A three-way simultaneous slashing attack. The Demon of Doom crosses its two swords across its chest and places the blade in its mouth horizontally behind them. The Demon of Doom then approaches the target (usually at high speed) and cuts through by swinging the swords across his chest, resulting in a descending diagonal-crossing slash from both swords while the mouth blade performs a horizontal cut from either the left or right, depending on which side of its mouth it positioned the sword's main blade at. For this attack the Demon of Doom copies Zoro's Wado Ichimonji, Sandai Kitetsu and Shusui.
  • Gomu Gomu no Bazooka (ゴムゴムのバズーカ, Gomu Gomu no Bazūka?, literally meaning "Rubber Rubber Bazooka"): An attack copied from Monkey D. Luffy. The Demon of Doom stretches both its arms far back, and then hurls them forward, striking its opponent with both instantaneously with a double open palm strike with both hands, that frequently sends the recipient(s) flying off the other direction.
  • Shot Phase (ショットフェーズ, Shottofēzu?): The Demon of Doom points its left shoulder at its target and fires a series of copied attacks in quick succession from it. This attack is called Shoot Phase in English releases:
    • Atlas Suisei (アトラス彗星, Atorasu Suisei?, literally meaning "Atlas Comet"): An attack copied from Usopp. The Demon of Doom shoots four, highly explosive pellets filled with gunpowder, at high speeds with smoke tails which converge together and hit a target. The arcs the four shots make resemble the horns of an Atlas Beetle. For this attack, the Demon of Doom copies materials from Usopp's Kabuto.
    • Cyclone Tempo (サイクロン テンポ, Saikuron Tenpo?): An attack copied from Nami. The Demon of Doom puts the "Heat Pole" and "Cool Pole" of the Clima-Tact together like an X and fires it spinning, towards its opponent. When the X hits, the hot and cold airs collide and create a massive wind that blows its opponent away. The X will return to the Demon of Doom like a boomerang. For this attack, the Demon of Doom copies projectiles from Nami's Clima-Tact.
    • Brick Bat (欠片蝙蝠ブリック・バット, Burikku Batto?, literally meaning "Fragment Bats"): An attack copied from Gecko Moria. The Demon of Doom fires a myriad of balls made of shadows. These balls then turn into a swarm of bats that can attack an opponent.
    • Rankyaku "Gaicho" (嵐脚「凱鳥」, Rankyaku "Gaichō"?, literally meaning "Storm Leg: 'Victorious Bird'"): An attack borrowed from Rob Lucci. The Demon of Doom creates a large Rankyaku in the shape of a bird. This Rankyaku has a much wider range, greater attack power, and is capable of cleaving steel. The cut also seems more focused, instead of flickering and jagged like a normal Rankyaku.
    • Needle Machine Gun (ニードルマシンガン, Nīdoru Mashingan?): An attack copied from Krieg. Stakes that the Demon of Doom fires out of his shoulder in a machine gun-like fashion, that are capable of skewering wood and flesh. For this attack, the Demon of Doom copies projectiles from Krieg's weapon arsenal.
  • Weapon Phase (ウェポンフェーズ, Weponfēzu?): The Demon of Doom dashes towards the opponent and performs a series of attacks in quick succession. This attack retains its name in English releases:
    • Gavotte Bond en Avant (革命舞曲ガボット・ボンナバン, Gabotto Bonnaban?, literally meaning "Gavotte: Leap Forward"): An attack copied from Brook. A sword thrusting technique in which the user propels itself forward in order to strike an opponent. For this attack, the Demon of Doom copies Brook's Soul Solid.
    • An unnamed attack copied from Arlong, the Demon of Doom grabs a sword and performs two vertical slashes across the opponent, dealing heavy damage. For this attack, the Demon of Doom copies Arlong's Kiribachi.
    • Kokuto Kogetsu (黒刀弧月, Kokutō Kōgetsu?, literally meaning "Black Blade Arc Moon"): An attack copied from Dracule Mihawk. The Demon of Doom attacks with its sword at great speed. This technique seems to be more powerful than a normal slash of the sword as it emits some kind of cutting air (but not enough to cover great distances). For this attack, the Demon of Doom copies Dracule Mihawk's Yoru.
  • Chikara no Boso (力の暴走, Chikara no Bōsō?, literally meaning "Runaway Power"): The Demon of Doom's special attack. The Demon of Doom trembles with dark energy and unleashes a series of attacks in quick succession. This attack is called Rampage of Power in English releases:
    • Desert Spada (砂漠の宝刀デザート・スパーダ, Dezāto Supāda?, literally translated as "Treasured Sword of Desert"): An attack copied from Crocodile. The Demon of Doom forms its right hand into a loose blade of fast-moving sand and then stabs it into the ground, extending it along the ground like a torpedo, splitting anything in its path, including the very ground itself, through extreme and focused erosion, created by the sand blade, which is strong enough to slice a man in half. This attack can also generate a static surge that will run with the blade.
    • El Thor (神の裁きエル・トール, Eru Tōru?, literally translated as "Judgment of God"): An attack copied from Enel. The Demon of Doom focuses a large cluster of electricity above its target, and then uses it to send a huge and powerful lightning bolt crashing down from the sky, deep frying said unlucky target.
    • Ice Age (氷河時代アイス・エイジ, Aisu Eiji?): An attack copied from Aokiji. The Demon of Doom places its hand to the ground and instantly freezes an entire huge area turning it into a cold, frozen wasteland for one week. Not only does it freezes the area, but turns anything and everything in the area, including living organisms, into completely frozen statues. It is undetermined how long the targets of this version would remain frozen. Theoretically, if used near the ocean or another large area of water, it can, like Aokiji, when placing its hand in the water, instantly freeze it (along with anything in/on it) completely solid and the actual extent of the ice could stretch for miles and last for over a week.
    • An unnamed attack made of two techniques. The Demon of Doom simultaneously creates a miniature version of the Dai Enkai: Entei (大炎戒 炎帝, Dai Enkai: Entei?, literally meaning "Great Flame Commandment: Flame Emperor"), an attack copied from Portgas D. Ace, in its right hand, and an equally-sized version of Yami ni Shine (闇に死ね, Yami ni shine?, literally meaning "Die in the Dark"), an attack copied from Marshall D. Teach, in its left hand. The Demon of Doom then throws both techniques out in front of itself and makes them collide with each other with the opponent caught in-between them, thus creating a smaller version of the explosion that happened during the final clash between Ace and Blackbeard on Banaro Island.

History[]

One Piece: Unlimited Cruise[]

The Treasure Beneath the Waves[]

Doom Guardian Is Born

The Doom Guardian being released by the Great Tree.

When Gaburi was taken by the Great Tree to be turned into a suitable present for the Straw Hat Pirates, the two of them came to an impasse of opinions when determining the profiles of the crew: while the Great Tree believed the Straw Hats to be evil since they were pirates, Gaburi insisted that they were "people who make you feel good".[2] As she probed Gaburi's mind for a better answer, the Great Tree saw his memory of Blackbeard. Seeing the malevolence of Blackbeard in that memory corrupted the Great Tree with fear. As such, in an act of self-defense, she transformed Gaburi into the Doom Guardian and made him attack the Straw Hat Pirates as she returned him to the crew.[2][3] The crew thus chose to beat down the Doom Guardian and take back the original Gaburi still present in its shoulder. However, the Doom Guardian would restore itself after being defeated and continue the fight. Defeating it a second time, the Straw Hat Pirates managed to pull Gaburi out of the Doom Guardian, only for the latter to go berserk. As the Doom Guardian fired its Hakai no Koso at the crew however, Gaburi flew in and took the hit. He then sacrificed his body and power to make the Doom Guardian retreat from sight in an explosion of light.[2]

Awakening of a Hero[]

Although gone from sight, the Doom Guardian continued to exit inside the Great Tree, who planned to release it from a big seed on one of its branches once it was ripe. However, because of their separation, it was only a matter of time before the Doom Guardian and Gaburi would disappear. Having none of that, the Straw Hat Pirates worked on making Gaburi stronger so he could remerge with the Doom Guardian without being taken over by it. In the meantime, the Doom Guardian was working on restoring itself while absorbing the island's power and observing the Straw Hat Pirates.[3]

Demon Of Doom Appears

The Doom Guardian evolving into the Demon of Doom.

When the crew and Gaburi returned to Central Island's core, the Doom Guardian appeared before them once again. There, the Doom Guardian was taken over by the Great Tree, who stated through it that humans were evil and had to be destroyed. While the Straw Hat Pirates agreed that there were evil people out in the world, they also noted that there were good people too, and that they would kill her if she would call those people evil too. Despite that, the Great Tree had the Doom Guardian attack them. Eventually, the crew seemingly defeated the Doom Guardian. After its body fell lifelessly to the ground however, the Great Tree made the Doom Guardian evolve it into a form better suited for fighting the crew, causing it to emerge from its husk as the "Demon of Doom", re-energized and ready to fight again. Most of the Straw Hat Pirates tried to use Tactics Fifteen in response by forming Pirates Docking 7: Perfect Big Emperor, but due to Nami and Robin's refusal to participate, the Demon of Doom caught them off guard and easily broke the formation.[3]

The Demon of Doom resumed its fight with the Straw Hat Pirates, but was defeated once again. Injured and physical decimated, the Demon of Doom began to restore itself again. During that process though, Gaburi interfered and remerged with the Demon of Doom. For a while, the Demon of Doom stood still, only to suddenly reboot and try resuming the fight again. However, just before striking Luffy, it froze up. Then, in a flash light, the Demon of Doom turned back into Gaburi, thus ending its existence.[3]
