The Dressrosa Arc is the twenty-seventh story arc in the series and the second in the Pirate Alliance Saga of One Piece, continuing from the Punk Hazard Arc.

The Straw Hats, Trafalgar Law, and Kin'emon, having formed an alliance, travel to Dressrosa as part of their plan. Dressrosa is the second island the Straw Hats encounter in the New World and is ruled by the Shichibukai, Donquixote Doflamingo.

Summary

Fury of the Shichibukai: Donquixote Doflamingo Makes His Move

As the news of Doflamingo's resigning and the pirate alliances spreaded, chaos ensued. In war zones, armies were desperate to get in contact with the former Shichibukai in order to get new supplies of weapons, while pirates everywhere started panicking about the alliances reported by Absa. Meanwhile, Doflamingo received the promised call from Law, with some of the Straw Hats on the other end seemingly surprised that the Shichibukai actually picked it up. Luffy returned Doflamingo's greeting by shouting his declaration to be Pirate King, followed by angrily threatening the king that he was willing to return Caesar, but if he found they were repeating the same actions as they did on Punk Hazard, he was going to beat the Shichibukai up. Doflamingo simply chuckled, and asked where Luffy has been (with the young pirate stating it was a secret) and then stated that he wanted to meet the Straw Hat, claiming that he has something that Luffy would do anything to get. As Luffy started envisioning meat, Usopp dragged his Captain away from the Den Den Mushi, with Law picking up the receiver to start negotiations. After Doflamingo made sure that Caesar was all right, Law told his old boss the time and place of the pickup. Luffy then abruptly hung up on the Shichibukai before he got caught up in Doflamingo's pace again.[1]

Sanji then started asking if it would not have been better for them to limit the forces present for the pick up, but Law refutes this, stating that their real objective was to find the hidden SMILE factory and destroy it. Luffy starts getting excited about this latest adventure, and then his next in which he plans on going to the Wano Country. They decided to have breakfast during which Kin'emon briefly explains the events leading to him and Momonosuke ending up on Punk Hazard.[1]

When Law hears that the samurai were heading to Zo, he states that he was also planning on heading there after destroying the factory to join his crew. When Kin'emon finished telling his tale, Franky, Chopper, and Luffy then get carried away, saying that they will help the samurai's friend, Kanjuro as well, much to Law's annoyance. At the new Marines Headquarters, a debriefing was taking place, held by Commodore Brannew, about Doflamingo's abdication and Law's alliance while mentioning the new Shichibukai, Buggy, and another unnamed pirate. In response to this, Fleet Admiral Sakazuki states he sent Fujitora to investigate.[1]

Doflamingo Holds Mera Mera no Mi

At Dressrosa, Baby 5 goes looking for Trebol, who suddenly appears in front of her. Baby 5 then tells him that Doflamingo is looking for him, and to bring 'it' with him. After Trebol teases her about her captain's constant execution of all her previous boyfriends, he then goes to meet the former Shichibukai. While there, it is then revealed that the object requested by Doflamingo was in fact the Mera Mera no Mi, Ace's Devil Fruit prior to his death which is then entrusted by Doflamingo to another of his subordinates, Diamante, while commenting that Luffy will come running to him because he would not want anyone else to have Ace's Devil Fruit [1]

Elsewhere, the Straw Hats soon sight Dressrosa, along with Trafalgar Law.[1]

Arrival At Dressrosa: Adventure in the Country of Love, Passion, and Toys

The crew lands on the island and disembark. Luffy tries to get Momonosuke to fly so they can find the factories, but Momonosuke cannot recall how he did it the first time. He tells Luffy that his father forbade him from entering the island. Luffy gets into a fight with Momonosuke over this until Kin'emon calms him down. He then shows the crew the outfits they will need to disguise themselves. Law hands Nami a Vivre Card for Zo in case something happens and lays out his plan. The group delivering Caesar (Law, Usopp and Robin) will cross Dressrosa to Green Bit and drop him off while some of the crew (Nami, Chopper, Brook and Momonosuke) will watch after the ship. However, before he goes on further he notices Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Franky, and Kin'emon (the Factory Destroying Team) have suddenly vanished.[2]

They are revealed to have wandered into the city taking in the sights and sounds of Dressrosa. They see living toys walk among the human occupants, surprising them. When they see someone getting stabbed, Zoro asks about this to a toy soldier, to which they find out it is a daily occurrence. If a man cheats on a woman, the woman will stab him, and the more beautiful the woman is, the higher the number of stabs the man will receive.[2]

The group decide to grab something to eat and, after disguising themselves as old men, stop at a bar. Though Sanji can not help but notice that the island is not in much of a panic after hearing the news of their king, Doflamingo, giving up his throne. Their food is served where the waiter, at Sanji's query about the Fairy Pumpkin Gazpaco, mentions a legend about fairies that is shrouded in myth. As they eat, they overhear some ruckus at a nearby roulette table where a blind man is trying his luck. He guesses correctly which color the ball will land on, but the dealer and his cohorts constantly lie and swindle his money.[2] The blind man tries one more time and once more guesses correctly. Just as the dealer is about to say the opposite, Luffy comes over and announces that the man had won. The man states his gratitude to Luffy for revealing the truth. But the dealers become angry and attempt to attack Luffy.[3]

The blind man tells Luffy to step back and he unsheathes his sword. Pressure suddenly pushes down on the dealers until the floor collapses underneath them into a gigantic hole sending them plummeting into the abyss below. As Luffy and his group marvel at the man's strength, he remarks being blind has its privileges of never looking at the world's filth.[3]

Everyone stands in awe after the blind man's display of power, the crew realizes that he must definitely have some Devil Fruit ability and Luffy immediately asks outright what exactly he is. The blind man answers that for both their sakes it would be unwise to reveal who he is. Immediately after the old man leaves, all the people in the bar start exclaiming over missing possessions, among which is Zoro's Shusui - The Treasure of Wano. A toy informs them that it is definitely the work of the Fairies and there is nothing to be done about it, besides laughing and forgetting about it.[4]

However, Kin'emon and Zoro decide that they are not going to give up on it so easily. Zoro catches a glimpse of Shusui being carted away and quickly chases after the thief with Kin'emon not far behind. Sanji likewise follows because he does not trust Zoro to be running around on his own. Luffy starts to follows because he feels it would be fun but is stopped by Franky who has a better plan.[4]

Prize of the Corrida Colosseum

The "prize" of the Corrida Colosseum: the Mera Mera no Mi.

Franky and Luffy apprehend one of the dealers that was defeated by the mysterious blind man and drag him into an alley for interrogation, with Franky correctly guessing he works for Doflamingo. He does not seem to know anything about the Smile Factory, but says that his superiors are at the Corrida Colosseum, where a big event is taking place and an amazing prize is going to be given to the winner.[4] Meanwhile at the Corrida Colosseum, the Donquixote Family is introduced as the leading champions of the event: Senor Pink, Dellinger, Lao G, Machvise and the current hero Diamante.[5] The blind man is also shown to be among the audience at the Corrida Colosseum and the prize is the Mera Mera no Mi, which grants a person the powers that Ace had.[4]

Upon hearing what the prize is, Luffy is left shocked.[4] After hearing how a Devil Fruit's reproduction works from the thug, Luffy declares he will not let just anyone have Ace's power. Franky quickly deduces it might be a trap but encourages Luffy to claim the fruit anyway, to which Luffy agrees and the two head for the colosseum while the thug calls them fools because no one who just wants the fruit would risk their lives for it. Meanwhile, Zoro continues his chase for the thief but gets lost (having also lost Kin'emon in the process). Sanji catches up to him but gets distracted by a dancer named Violet, which causes him to lose Zoro the moment he takes his eyes off him. Violet suddenly approaches him and, after feigning kissing him to avoid cops chasing her, she asks Sanji for his help in protecting her and finding a certain man so she can kill him.[6]

Back with Luffy and Franky, the pair reaches the colosseum but are halted by a commotion of a one-legged toy soldier who has cops chasing him. However, he reaches the colosseum and states neither cops nor Marines can pass beyond there as it a law of the Doflamingo Family, even if they are chasing criminals. The cops grudgingly break off their chase while the toy soldier greets and talks a bit with Luffy and Franky.[6] Eventually, Luffy goes to sign in, but to keep his cover safe enters under the name "Lucy" (mostly due to Franky stopping him from putting in his real name). He is escorted into the waiting room where many rough looking participants are waiting their turn to fight.[7]

Some of the fighters start mocking Luffy due to his disguise and feeble appearance. One such, Spartan, even takes offense to him being there and demands that he leave. He attacks Luffy, who easily dodges his attack, grabs his arm and slams him into the ground, which shocks all the other combatants, Luffy then greets them.[7]

Corrida Colosseum: The Battle for Mera Mera no Mi Begins

One of the colosseum staff was about to disqualify Luffy. Luckily, the Chinjao Family stepped in and spoke on Luffy's behalf, saying that Spartan was the one who started the fight. After thanking the Chinjao Family for saving him from disqualification, Luffy learned that he has been assigned to Block C. Once he went to the battle preparation room, Luffy got very excited seeing all the armor and decided to put some on to make himself look cooler. While learning about the colosseum's weight restriction on protective gear, Luffy was greeted by Cavendish, captain of the Beautiful Pirates.[8]

Luffy accidentally tells him his own name, but the other contestants thought he was mispronouncing his alias "Lucy". Some of the contestants spoke amongst each other how fearsome Luffy must be, and that the real Luffy was 8 meters tall. Cavendish warned "Lucy" that if he was Luffy, he would have killed him. After asking why, Cavendish then proceeds to tell Luffy his back story, such as how he came to resent the eleven Supernovas for stealing his popularity, but Luffy ignores him during the middle of the conversation.[9]

He then sees a bronze statue of an old gladiator named Kyros. While admiring the statue, he meets a female gladiator named Rebecca. Upon noticing his admiration of the statue, she tells him about his legendary status. After telling Luffy about the statue, two other fighters began teasing her about how she must be happy that Spartan was already eliminated. When Luffy asked what they meant, Rebecca told him not to mind them, though she was noticeably bothered by what they said. After this, she declared that she will win the Mera Mera no Mi and defeat Donquixote Doflamingo, much to Luffy's surprise. She then asked Luffy which block he was assigned to and was happy to learn they are in different blocks. As she walks off, she tells Luffy that it would be nice if they both survived the first round.[9]

After Luffy and Rebecca finish their conversation, the winner of Block A is announced to be a mysterious fighter with a paper bag over his head who defeated all the fighters in a battle royale match. He then pulls off his mask, revealing himself to the audience as Jesus Burgess, Luffy is shocked over the revelation.[9]

As Burgess is being cheered on by the crowd, Franky is shown in the crowd wondering if Luffy will be able to pull a successful win with such a strong opponent. Franky then decides he needs to leave, so he can go do his job of destroying the SAD factory, but he ends up having a tag along in the form of the Thunder Soldier. The soldier tells him he wants to come along, and they should talk somewhere else about things like that.[10]

Meanwhile, behind some bleachers in the colosseum, a Marine officer is receiving a transmission from Vice Admiral Maynard, who is undercover as "Capman" in the colosseum. Maynard tells him all the big names that are participating in the competition from the dressing room, but is walked in on by Gambia, a member of the Barto Club. Gambia recognizes the vice admiral, but Maynard brutally beats him, and puts him in the trash room before he could say anything.[10]

Fujitora, the new admiral, is revealed.

Back in the crowd, the blind man decides it is his time to leave, and did so with his subordinate. He is then revealed to be the new admiral, Fujitora, and is shown to be planning on sending three battleships to Dressrosa. He tells his subordinate that they need to worry about who to protect, rather than who they need to arrest. He also says that they would head to Green Bit.[10]

At a Northeastern cafe, the Caesar Return Team is having some tea near the Green Bit bridge, while getting information about Green Bit. They learn from the shopkeeper that there are fighting fish around Green Bit that are strong enough to flip ships. Their discussions are interrupted by a mysterious sight: the government agency CP-0.[11]

Elsewhere, Zoro is being dragged across a rooftop, while gripping his sword. Zoro flies off the roof, and onto the ground as something drops on him. A mysterious voice then says that they should not be seen by humans.[11]

Kin'emon, who has gotten lost elsewhere, is surrounded by a group of Doflamingo's agents who recognize him by his top-knot. The people tell him to keep quiet if he cares about Kanjuro's life.[11]

While Kin'emon deals with those agents, Sanji fights off similar agents, who attempt to snipe him from above, but are defeated with a swift kick. Sanji then expresses his love for Violet, with a large smile.[11]

Back on the Sunny, Chopper, Nami and Momonosuke are playing Shogun with Chopper as a vassal, Nami as a court lady, and Momonosuke as the shogun. Brook then sings a song for Momonosuke, after Chopper tells him that when Momonosuke is left alone he begins to get sad, as if he has had something very bad happen to him. Suddenly, a noise is heard from within the Sunny, which frightens everyone on board.[11]

In the colosseum, Bartolomeo is called out to compete in the B Block, as a beaten up Maynard is seen behind him.[11] The B Block is about to begin, but one contestant is missing. The missing contestant, Bellamy, comes up behind Luffy and tells him he has seen through his disguise.[12] Bellamy then explains that he does not want revenge, and says he actually went to Skypiea.[13] Bellamy apparently took gold from the Skypieans, and gave it to Doflamingo as an offering.[14] Doflamingo accepted him back into his crew, and Bellamy has changed his ways. Bellamy says he will not laugh at Luffy anymore, and walks into the block.[13]

As Block B starts, Cavendish asks Luffy what block he is assigned to. It is then revealed that the major fighters in C Block are Lucy, Jean Ango, Sai, Boo, Hajrudin, Ideo, Fighting Bull, Don Chinjao, Kelly Funk, and Bobby Funk. The fighters in Block D include Cavendish, Meadows, Mummy, Rebecca, Rolling Logan, Fighting Lion, Damask, Acilia, and Suleiman.[15]

Elizabello II, Dagama, Tank Lepanto and other gladiators create an alliance to eliminate Bellamy.

B Block officially starts, and the fighters seen are Bellamy, Bartolomeo, Dagama, Elizabello II, Blue Gilly, Hack, Ricky, Tank Lepanto, Abdullah and Jeet. Bellamy is thinking about where to begin, when he is tag teamed by Dagama, Tank Lepanto, Elizabello II and other fighters. Dagama states that they must get rid of the troublesome ones before being taken out.[16]

Spring Death Knock

Bellamy vs. Tank Lepanto.

As the B Block gets into full swing, the crowds start calling foul for the team up but the announcer states it is within the rules as Dagama has his men defend Elizabello, who has the power to crush his enemies or make walls with one punch though the only drawback is that it takes an hour for him to his power. Elizabello currently is up to strength and waiting on Dagama to give the word. Lepanto meanwhile focuses on fighting Bellamy, stating he is just fighting for the money. Bellamy avoids his attack while a few others are knocked into the ocean outside the ring, which not only disqualifies them but puts them in danger of the school of "Little Fighting Fish".[16] Jeet and Abdullah take out a bunch of warriors easily while another taunts against a karate fishman, Hack, who quickly knocks him aside. Dagama's troops suddenly run into trouble against another fighter - a martial artist of the Long Leg Tribe, Blue Gilly, whose Jao Kun Do fighting style is knocking them away like rag dolls.[17]

In another section, a mysterious fighter only known as Ricky is catching most of the gladiators' attention. Two of them try their luck against him but he dodges their attack easily, gets behind them and knocks them out.[17] As all this goes on, the audience notice that none of the gladiators have touched Bartolomeo who lays on the side of the ring observing the battle.[16]

Meanwhile up in the stands, Luffy and Cavendish are watching the battle with the latter still harping on about "The Worst Generation" Supernovas and how he needs to get new bounty posters for them. Cavendish state he has a feeling some of them have come to the colosseum and disguised himself, but he is willing to wait for the roster to thin. Suddenly Don Chinjao comes up to the two and ask Luffy how Garp is doing. Luffy asks if he knows his grandfather, before realizing his cover has been exposed. As Cavendish reels from shock, Chinjao states Garp almost killed him back in the past and he intends to exact his revenge by killing Luffy.[16]

Luffy and Cavendish vs

Luffy and Cavendish fight the furious Chinjao.

Chinjao says he wished he knew about Garp's son, Dragon earlier, then Luffy would have never been born, and with that, suddenly attacks the young Straw Hat with a mighty head butt. Cavendish, claiming that Luffy is his prey, counters Chinjao's head butt with his Meito, Durandal. The clash is a draw, with Cavendish stopping the attack, but being unable to pierce his opponent's head. As their skirmish starts drawing attention, a witness states that Chinjao had a bounty of over 500,000,000 in the Golden Age, and once split a frozen continent with his head. As Chinjao continues his assault, Luffy tries to end the fight with a blow to Chinjao's head, smashing the ex-pirate's head into the ground.[18]

Chinjao gets up in a berserk state, but before he is about to attack again, he is held back by Boo and Sai. His grandchildren state that Luffy is in Block C with them, and if Chinjao continues to cause a ruckus, they might get kicked out before they complete their true objective. Cavendish, is willing to get eliminated from the tournament, if it means to kill Luffy, but Luffy is nowhere to be found. As the White Horse goes looking for Luffy and the crowd disperses with murmurs of Straw Hat, no one realized that the man in question was hanging outside the wall on the window sill.[18]

Back in B Block, Tank Lepanto is defeated by Abdullah and Jeet, who are in turn beaten by Bellamy. Meanwhile, Bartolomeo is urinating off the side of the ring. Hack, who has gained fans from the crowd, attempts to punch Bartolomeo, but his fist is blocked and broken by some sort of invisible wall, apparently made by the rookie.[18]

Bartolomeo follows up his attack and knocks out Hack, eliminating him. With his defeat, only 24 people are left in the ring. Blue Gilly takes out Ricky who laments he cannot win against old age and curses Doflamingo. The warriors under Dagama's command comment on the effective strategy of his and state they plan to fight amongst themselves once they knock out everyone else. Blue Gilly suddenly attacks them, breaking their formation. When one of the gladiators asks how this could be, Dagama attacks them from behind. Blue Gilly then reveals he and Dagama were in together the whole time. However, once Dagama gets the chance, he tries to attack Blue Gilly when his back is turned, only to be kicked and knocked out of the ring into the path of the one of the Fighting Fish. Blue Gilly states that he never trusted Dagama from the start.[19]

Elizabello II Uses King Punch

Elizabello's King Punch wipes out everyone but Bartolomeo in the B Block.

Meanwhile, Bellamy is fighting Bartolomeo and losing, wondering if Bartolomeo ate a Devil Fruit. Luffy shouts encouragement to him upon seeing this. The rest of the remaining warriors start to surround Elizabello, with Blue Gilly mocking him. However, the king states the formation was to protect them. As the crowd wonders about Elizabello's power, they realize they might be in danger. They begin to get clear and Elizabello goes on the attack while the other warriors rush him. Bellamy manages to get hold of Bartolomeo with his powers and is about to retaliate when he notices Elizabello's power. Elizabello lets loose his King Punch, sending virtually all the remaining combatants flying out of the ring. When the dust settles, nearly everyone, including Bellamy and Blue Gilly, are knocked out of the ring.[19]

For the moment it seems the king has won. However, one fighter still stands: Bartolomeo. He reveals he made a barrier which protected him from the king's attack having eaten the Bari Bari no Mi. He uses the barrier to knock out the vulnerable king, winning him the B-Block. As the crowds boos him, Bartolomeo states the Mera Mera no Mi must go to "that person". Luffy starts to wonder who he is.[19]

Meanwhile inside one of the colosseum's corridors, Franky is talking to the toy soldier who states he is also trying to destroy Doflamingo's factories and has people preparing to do so, but wishes to save his friends who are working within the factories first. He also states destroying the factory will bring the downfall of the country and if Franky is willing to fight against Doflamingo, he will tell him everything about Dressrosa.[19]

Green Bit: The Exchange Meeting Commences

After the B-Block, the wounded are rounded up and taken for medical treatment. Although, Bellamy states he has not changed, Luffy disagrees. The defeated pirate senses the massive presence of Haki around the Straw Hat Captain, having felt it when Luffy called out to him. However, he accidentally slips the word "Straw Hat" which Bartolomeo happens to overhear nearby.[20]

File:Law, Straw Hats, and Caesar Encounter Big Fighting Fish.png

Law, Robin, Usopp, and Caesar encounter a fighting fish while crossing the bridge.

Meanwhile, the "Caesar Exchange Team" who have 45 minutes till their deadline, are trying to cross the bridge to reach Green Bit but a school of Fighting Fish instantly begin attacking them. Usopp and Robin manage to fight them back and ask for Law's aid, but he states his power drains his stamina and he needs it for the trip back. They are forced to free Caesar to help them cross the bridge. Law keeps him in check with Caesar's heart which he still has in his possession.[20]

They manage to make their way halfway across the bridge when they see the bridge has been broken, preventing them from proceeding further. Another Fighting Fish jumps out to attack them but is suddenly caught in a net and harpooned by unseen assailants. Usopp calls out to them but they run away upon hearing him, much to the group's confusion. Law comes up with an idea to use Caesar's power to inflate his body like a hot air balloon, to carry them to the island which happens to be a densely lush tropical forest with a few shipwrecks along the shore thanks to the Fighting Fish.[20]

Upon arriving, they spot a Marine ship plowed into the forest and Robin notes from the surrounding damage to the environment that it was recent, meaning they are nearby. Law starts to wonder if Smoker sent them since he told him where they were going, back in Punk Hazard. Caesar demands Law to call the meeting off since Doflamingo is not a Shichibukai anymore and his protection of Caesar is gone, but Law retorts that it will not matter since the Marines will be after him too, thanks to his alliance with the Straw Hat Pirates.[21]

Fifteen minutes prior to the deadline, Usopp and Robin head into the forest to scout for any possible ambush, when they overhear Marines nearby calling out to someone. An unseen person asks if they are good or bad. When they answer that they are good, the person demands they lose their weapons. However, when the Marines refuse, something moves around them at lighting speed, taking their weapon and clothes. The Marines run off before Robin uses her ability to sprout hands through the forest catching the figure. Usopp asks what is it and Robin states that it is a dwarf.[21]

Robin Sewn to the Ground

Robin is tied to the ground by the dwarves.

Usopp races over to see what she is talking about but the dwarves hit both with something called Anaesthetic Flower causing both to pass out. Sometime later Robin awakens to find herself tied to the ground by the dwarves and her body and belongings being searched for any weapons. Robin notices that they are in a miniature village underneath Green Bit called the Tontatta Kingdom, home of the Tontatta Tribe. One of the warriors, Leo, has a Devil Fruit that allows him to stitch people to the ground which he used to keep Robin in place, claiming that those who see the tribe cannot leave. Robin apologizes for her earlier action and promises to keep their village a secret but Leo does not believe her. However, the others in the tribe do and set Robin free. It is then that the chief, Gancho, arrives and greets Robin. Robin checks her watch and realizes the exchange is about to take place. She tries to call Law, but the dwarves have set her Den Den Mushi free.[22]

Robin then asks for an exit, but they demand she leaves her weapons. Though she states she does not have any, they try to strip search her. However, one of the dwarves stops them, claiming Robin is a companion of "that hero", whom Robin realizes is none other than Usopp, and wonders what lie he had told them.[22]

Back at the port city of Acacia, Zoro is rushing through the city with someone trying to give him directions. This turns out to be a dwarf named Wicca who is part of a recon team. When Zoro fell after jumping after his sword, she revealed herself though twisting her leg in the fall. She reveals, along with being very strong though panicky, that she was trying to meet up with her team so they can warn the Straw Hats that Doflamingo has been keeping tabs on them since they reached the island and set to attack their ship. Zoro reveals he is part of the crew and Wicca demands he takes her to the Flower Fields. Zoro was initially against it, wanting to help those on the ship but when he realized he was going in the wrong direction, he relented.[23]

Meanwhile in the colosseum, the C-Block is announced to begin shortly. Rebecca is by a window watching some kids and toys play when she spots Franky and the Thunder Soldier passing by, likewise heading for the Flower Fields. She calls out to them, telling the Toy Soldier that she intends to win the game so they can be together. The Soldier brushes this off and tells Franky to continue. Rebecca begins to cry at that which Franky notices and asks if it is okay. The Soldier just claims that there are things that he wants to protect and even then he will not be able to cry from his tin eyes.[22]

Back at Green Bit and the Southeast Beach, two minutes remain till the exchange. Law and Caesar wait at the appointed area when Law gets a call from Sanji, warning him to get away from the island as he found out that Doflamingo did not give up his Shichibukai position and the whole thing is a trap! However, it is too late; Doflamingo is already heading toward Law and Issho orders his troops to head to the beach as well.[24]

The reason Sanji knew about Doflamingo not really quitting the Shichibukai is revealed through flashback. Violet was actually an assassin for the Donquixote Family and had found out about him through her Giro Giro no Mi abilities eventually leading him into a trap. She, along with a group of thugs, defeated Sanji. Though this was more on Sanji's part as he refused to hit women, something Violet exploited. Violet then attempted to use her powers to see into Sanji's mind to discover Law and the Straw Hats plans. Nevertheless, all she saw were women. Sanji countered that he saw through Violet. While she may act callous, he knew her tears and her request to kill a certain man were genuine.[25] Realizing Sanji was telling the truth, Violet turned around and attacked the thugs working for her before letting Sanji see into her memories. He learns that the CP-0 were the ones who came up with the plan to fake Doflamingo's resignation, having ordered the citizens to go along as if nothing happened. Violet then let Sanji go so he could warn the others.[26]

In the present, Block C is starting. Cavendish is furious that Luffy got past him and into the match. While in the ring, Luffy prepares to battle the other gladiators. As this goes on across the world, the newspapers have arrived correcting the information that Doflamingo is still a Shichibukai.[27]

Green Bit Confrontation

Doflamingo and the Marines confronting Law and Caesar.

Back at Green Bit, Robin makes a copy of her upper body above ground to tell Law of their predicament, advising him to flee while he can. Doflamingo, along with Issho, arrives, ready for the exchange. Law tells him he knows Doflamingo is still a Shichibukai and asks how he did it. Stating only a Celestial Dragon could have that kind of power. Law then realizes what Vergo's last words meant about Doflamingo's true nature. However, Doflamingo simply replies that he now really wants to kill Law.[27]

Doflamingo asks Law to hand over Caesar, but Law refuses because the agreement was not fulfilled. Issho states that Caesar has protection because he is a subordinate of Doflamingo. Suddenly, Doflamingo calls out to Issho, revealing he was recruited to the Marines during something called "Global Military Enlistment". He also says that Issho and someone called "Green Bull" are two formidable opponents. Issho tells Doflamingo that he believes he is violating the boundaries as a Shichibukai, but Doflamingo says Issho needs more concrete evidence.[28]

The subject of the conversation changes to Law. Issho says if Law is allied with Luffy, then Law will be considered hostile. But, if the Straw Hats are his subordinates, then Law and the Straw Hat Pirates will be spared. Law, wanting to buy time, states that Luffy and the Straw Hats are not his subordinates, and they have an alliance.[28]

Fujitora's Meteorite

Issho uses his power to call down a meteorite.

Issho asserts this cannot be resolved by just revoking Law's title. Suddenly, he sends some sort of signal up into the air. This signal brings down a meteorite, which shocks Law and Doflamingo. Law creates a ROOM and cuts the meteorite in half. Doflamingo makes a net of strings, chopping the meteorite into square pieces. Issho simply causes them all to crash to the ground around him, leaving him unscathed. But, the remaining pieces of the rock, has caused the ground around them to be destroyed, leaving only the trio's footholds.[28]

Meanwhile, Franky and the Soldier are rolling through town on wheels coming from Franky's legs. Franky, who is talking to Sanji on the Den Den Mushi, says that they are headed toward the factory, but it might be a bigger job than they thought. Franky says he knows Doflamingo tricked them, and says that they can at least destroy his factory. Franky says he will meet Sanji at the Flower Fields.[28]

Sanji says he is unable to contact Nami, but Franky says not to worry because Brook and Chopper will guard her. Sanji then sees a broadcast from the colosseum and hears the announcer talking about a "Mysterious Man Lucy". Sanji berates Franky for letting Luffy enter the tournament.[28]

Violet then tells Sanji that her subordinates are approaching, and they really need to get out of there. Violet gives Sanji a map. She says the factory is actually disguised as a "toy house". Sanji says Violet could meet him and his crew at the western shoe, but Violet simply calls him a romantic fool. As Violet runs away, Kin'emon appears in front of Sanji, asking him to take out the men that were threatening Kin'emon earlier. After Sanji beats the guys, Kin'emon asks him to take him to the "toy house" because that is where there holding Kanjuro.[28]

Back in the underground of Green Bit, Usopp is telling a lie about how he is causing the shakes on the island with his haki, which he used to defeat 50,000 fishmen on Fishman Island. The dwarves see Usopp as a hero because he told them that he is related to Montblanc Noland, and he also called himself "Usoland".[28]

The dwarves explain that 400 years ago, Noland helped the dwarves by fighting off the "bad humans" who were ravaging the lands. Noland fought alongside the dwarves, in order to beat the humans. They then saw Noland as their hero. They state that it must be fate because this is the same day that they are going to wage war with Doflamingo, and another hero has appeared before them. The dwarves plan to go to the flower fields, where the royal forces await their arrival, and want "Usoland" to lead the charge. Usopp, of course, is terrified on the inside.[28]

Lucy and the C-Block Contest

Meanwhile, back with Nami's group, the Sunny is being attacked by one of the Doflamingo Family members, Jora, who has a Devil Fruit ability to turn anything into abstract art, including humans. Nami, Chopper, Brook and Momonosuke were all affected by this power and are forced to abandon ship by the soldier dock system. Jora demands they hand over Momonosuke though they try to draw her attention to them to get her away from the ship. However, she does not fall for it and uses her power on the Thousand Sunny, effectively trapping the Straw Hats on Dressrosa.[29]

Back at the Corrida colosseum, some of the staff members are trying to help Ricky, noticing he has a serious wound on his head. However, he refuses to take off his helmet or receive treatment from them. Rebecca notices the commotion and tries to convince him to be healed. However, Ricky just brushes her off and leaves, though it is shown that the two know each other as Ricky silently asks Rebecca to forgive him for his rudeness. In the Donquixote Family staff quarters, Diamante gives Bellamy orders from Doflamingo to assassinate Luffy after the match, stating that Bellamy will be awarded an officer position if he succeeds. However, Bellamy finds himself conflicted due to Luffy and him now being on good terms. Meanwhile, Bartolomeo goes to talk with Cavendish about Luffy, stating he has a history with him.[29]

Luffy Defeats Hajrudin

Luffy defeats Hajrudin with a single punch.

In the ring, the C-Block is underway with an Elbaf giant named Hajrudin clearing out a good number of the contestants. Luffy, however, has gotten the crowd on his side with his antics and has teamed with the Fighting Bull, whom he has named Ucy, to take down a few of the combatants. However, they run right into Hajrudin's leg who attacks the two, seemingly flattening both of them. Luffy is unharmed due to his rubber body but the bull is knocked out. Angered, Luffy jumps up to Hajrudin and punches him in the face, knocking him out as the audience looks on in shock.[29]

As Hajrudin lies unconscious on the ring floor, Luffy takes the bull to the edge of the ring to be out of harm's way as the other combatants duke it out. One of the gladiators goes to Hajrudin's body and knocks him out of the ring, the announcer identifying him as Ideo, a triple x boxer who states he wants more power and seeking the Mera Mera no Mi for that reason. In another section of the ring, Sai, noted to be the 13th Commander of the Happo Navy, manages to attack a gladiator through his shield and knocking him out via a strange kenpo technique. His brother, Boo, a Lieutenant Commander in said army, is likewise beating a few opponents. While their grandfather, the former commander of the army, Don Chinjao, uses his Conquer's Haki to knock out a large group of people. Meanwhile, Jean Ango or "Jean the Bandit" as he is known, scoops up weapons around the ring. One of the gladiators tries to attack him to avenge a friend he sent to prison. Jean, proclaiming that he is a sniper and weapons are his bullets, sends the weapons flying at him with deadly precision.[30]

File:Funk Brothers Defeat Boo.png

The Funk Brothers pummel Boo.

In another section, Kelly Funk is mercilessly pounding an opponent, even though said opponent has lost consciousness. His brother, Bobby Funk, manages to stop him (though forgetting he was holding him in the first place). Kelly complaining that the man called him a "shrimp". Boo rushes the two and manages to knock down Kelly. He tries to do the same to Bobby, but his axe surprisingly breaks on Bobby's body even though it was imbued with Haki. Kelly requests his brother to hurry up and "wear" him. A minute later, an odd and much bigger combination of the brothers pounds on Boo, knocking him out.[30]

As that goes on Jean has swiped Luffy's helmet who demands he give it back. Jean states he heard a rumor that Straw Hat Luffy was in the tournament. Realizing this, Luffy wraps his cape around his head to conceal his identity. Don Chinjao suddenly rushes toward Luffy through the others, determined to kill him. The announcer states only forty people are left in the ring and all are extremely tough fighters, wondering who is going to win the C-Block.[30]

As the Funk Brothers finish trouncing Boo, one of the gladiators note that Kelly had suddenly turned himself into a jacket to which Bobby has put on over himself. Kelly cites it as the Jake Jake no Mi, a fruit that allows himself to turn into a jacket and, when put on, allows him to control the user. He notes that while Bobby has some significant strength he does not like to fight. With Kelly's ability and Bobby's body, the two can combine their strengths and overcome their weaknesses.[31]

Sai approaches him, stating that Boo had slacked off during his training and that Sai's kenpo style requires him to ignore his emotion. Though Sai states he would never leave one of his men behind. He and Kelly clash where Sai manages to get around Kelly's attack and knock out the Funk Brothers with an axe kick to the head. Meanwhile, Chinjao makes his way to Luffy wanting revenge for what Garp did to him in the past, stating that killing Garp would not be enough. He wants him to feel what he had lost which he intents to do by killing Luffy. With this, Jean confirms that "Lucy" is indeed Luffy and starts attacking him. Mentioning that his bounty hunting business had boomed thanks to Luffy's breakout from Impel Down which released dozens of criminals for him to hunt down. He intends to capture the rest of the "Jail Break Team" (Crocodile, Buggy, Ivankov, and Jinbe) along with Luffy and make a name for himself. However, Luffy easily keeps dodging his projectiles to Jean's frustration, they do however end up hitting the approaching Chinjao. Chinjao is unfazed but headbutts Jean in anger, instantly knocking him out and out the ring. In the process, Luffy regains his helmet.[31]

Luffy vs

Monkey D. Luffy vs. Don Chinjao.

In another corner of the arena, Sai and Ideo are duking it out, both evenly matched. Chinjao demands for Luffy to stop running and face him. Luffy agrees as he notes if he wants to win the tournament he has to fight him eventually. The two charge each other, knocking aside Ideo and Sai out of the ring along the way. Now the only two contestants left, the two form Haki on their arms and strike, sending a tremendous shockwave of Haoshoku Haki through the arena as everyone watches in awe.[31]

The Dwarves Make Their Move! Block C's Climax!

Don Chinjao finds himself impressed by Luffy's Haki but chides him when Luffy reveals that he wishes to be the Pirate King, telling him many opponents lay ahead that have much stronger Haoshoku Haki. Chinjao gets further annoyed when Luffy tells him Rayleigh was the one who trained him, implying he knows him and asks Luffy about what Garp took from him. Luffy has no idea what he is talking about and becomes even more confused when Chinjao comically cries in the middle of their battle. Boo and Sai, watching from the water around the ring, notice that when Chinjao becomes intensely focused nothing can stop him.[32]

Meanwhile, Sanji and Kin'emon are watching the battle on a monitor outside the Corrida Colosseum. Sanji notices that a battalion of Marines have surrounded the amphitheater, so getting in will be difficult. The leader of the squad, Vice Admiral Bastille, notices that many of the gladiators who were defeated have not exited the colosseum. He likewise notes they have not heard from Maynard in a while and begins to wonder if something happened to him. Meanwhile Franky and the soldier, the latter explains that when Doflamingo became king, he put two strict laws in Dressrosa.[32]

The first law is that no one be allowed outside past midnight. The humans go to their homes, the toys to their toy houses. The second law is that toys and humans likewise are not allowed to enter the other's home. When Franky asks how the toys could be so human-like, he gets his answer when the pair witness a toy pleading with a lady, stating that he is her boyfriend. However, she screams yelling that the toy has the "human sickness". The toy is knocked away by the lady's boyfriend before some guards seize it and drag the toy away, all the while it keeps yelling that it is human before being thrown into a building marked "Scrap".[32]

The soldier provides a further example by calling over a toy dog, Milo, who was playing with a lady and her child. The toy claims that the two are his wife and son, but when the soldier asks the mother if she had a husband and the son if he had a father, they both assert they do not have either. With this the soldier tells Franky that all the toys were once human, but thanks to a Devil Fruit user that came with Doflamingo when he took over the island, those that were turned into toys are suddenly forgotten by their loved ones. The two soon reach Flower Field where the soldier promises he will explain the problem in more detail.[32]

Back on Green Bit, Law is barely avoiding Issho's powerful attacks. He tries to contact Nami, but finds she is not responding. In the Tontatta Kingdom, the dwarves are preparing to head out. Usopp inquires about where they are raiding, which turns out to be a factory which Robin and Usopp deduce is where the SMILEs are being manufactured. Leo also mentions they plan to rescue the princess of their tribe, Mansherry, in the process. The group soon get a report that the Donquixote Family is on the move, thus, the dwarves prepare to head out as well toward the factory, which is underneath the colosseum.[32]

The Tontatta army mobilizes, during which time Leo explains that there is a passageway underground they will take to get to Dressrosa. The captains of the army, Kabu and Bian, meet up with the group and give Usopp and Robin transportation via linear foxes and everyone moves out. As they do, Gancho appears in Robin's cleavage and tells her and Usopp that the feud with Doflamingo is not recent, but has been going on for 900 years.[33]

Meanwhile in the Flower Fields and a secret base within it, Franky and the toy soldier have arrived where more Tontattas, labeled the Anti-Doflamingo Force, are stationed. Zoro is there as well watching Luffy and Chinjao's match. A recon squad comes in and reports that the Donquixote Family is moving out and that "Usoland" has come to join their battle along with the rest of the Straw Hat Pirates. Franky and Zoro realize it is one of Usopp's lies and go with it, introducing themselves to the group. However, Zoro suddenly realizes he is supposed to be heading back to the ship to help Nami's group.[33]

At that time, Nami's group continues to battle Jora, both to restore their forms and to protect Momonosuke. They managed to defeat Jora's squad and sink her sub, but Jora uses her powers on their weapons, rendering them useless. Even Chopper's Points were disabled. In the midst of the fight they get a call from Law telling them to bring the ship to Green Bit so he can hand Caesar off to them, but he gets cut off before he can say anymore. On Green Bit, Law finds himself cornered by Doflamingo who orders him to give up Caesar's heart and brags that Luffy took the bait for his trap and will not make it out of the colosseum alive.[33]

Hawk Rifle

Luffy using Gomu Gomu no Hawk Rifle against Chinjao.

Back on Dressrosa, Sanji and Kin'emon are still outside the colosseum watching the fight. Inside, Burgess comes over to Cavendish and Bartolomeo to watch the match wondering who "Lucy" is.[33] In the arena itself, Luffy lands a hit on Chinjao with Hawk Rifle.[34]

Chinjao is wounded but gets right back on his feet, mocking Luffy that he is no better than any rookie pirate who has a bit of power even insulting Ace which visibly angers Luffy. Luffy uses his rocket move off of Chinjao's head to take to the sky. Chinjao prepares for the final attack, at the same time reminiscing what happened 30 years ago. He was leading his Happo Navy troops to a frozen region where the treasure was buried under extremely hard ice that made it impossible to dig or burn through. Chinjao, at the time having a much more pointed head, however, could use his headbutt to crack the ice allowing them to get to the treasure.[35]

However, one day he encountered a young Garp and the two fought. Garp managed to defeat Chinjao and reshape his head into its current state. Chinjao's crew retreated and Chinjao himself recovered. Unfortunately, he could no longer crack the ice anymore in his current state, which broke his will as a pirate. He swore revenge on Garp and his family for depriving him of his treasure.[35]

Luffy Defeats Chinjao

Luffy defeats Chinjao and wins block C.

Back in the present, Chinjao prepares his final move and jumps toward Luffy who activated his Gear Third ability and infused Armament Haki over his fist. The two clash with Luffy's move coming out the victor. Not only that but Chinjao's head reshapes itself back to its former state in the process. Chinjao's body land in the center of the ring head first, splitting it clean in half. This causes him to fall into the ocean which counts as an out of bounds. Luffy is declared the victor of the C-Block.[35]

Naturally Cavendish expresses his resentment at the admiration Luffy is getting and vows to kill him but Bartolomeo reminds him Luffy is his prey. As they talk, Bellamy overhears them from the shadows. Burgess likewise hears the name "Straw Hat" and seemingly realizes who "Lucy" really is.[35]

The Dark History of Dressrosa: The Truth of the Donquixote Family

Bartolomeo Threatens a Noble

Bartolomeo gets angry at a gladiator for mocking Luffy.

With the Corrida Colosseum stadium under repairs, Luffy goes inside to rest only to be immediately assaulted by Cavendish who still wanted him dead. Bartolomeo then overhears one of the fighters make fun of Luffy, enraging him so much that he attacked him and told him that Luffy will become Pirate King. Bartolomeo reveals that he was there in Loguetown when Luffy declared his dream to the world, inspiring Bartolomeo to travel to sea when he heard of the Straw Hats Pirates' exploits.[36]

Luffy, still battling Cavendish, hears Sai saying that his grandfather wants a word with him. Chinjao, wishing to express his gratitude to Luffy, bows his newly restored head, splitting the ground and giving Luffy the distraction needed to get away from everyone. Rebecca then guides Lucy (unaware it is Luffy) away to safety where they ran into Jesus Burgess conversing with Blackbeard via Den Den Mushi. Blackbeard reveals his intention of obtaining the Mera Mera no Mi where Luffy declared he will prevent him from do so before running off with Rebecca.[36]

Convict Gladiators

The "Convict Gladiators" are revealed.

After treating Lucy to food, Rebecca shows Lucy the Gladiators Quarters where he can safely eat. After a while of chatting Luffy is grabbed from behind by the prisoners who shouted to Rebecca to do it now, which she complied by attempting to stab Lucy. Luffy swiftly escapes his bind and pins Rebecca down. The prisoners were relieved when Lucy demonstrates mercy and explained to Luffy that they, including Rebecca, are convicted gladiators who stood up to Donquixote Doflamingo and were punished to battle until they die. Rebecca then told Luffy that the Thunder Soldier's plan is to overthrow Doflamingo to release the prisoners but tearfully expresses her desire to protect him instead of him protecting her.[36]

Luffy realizes she is talking about the soldier Franky and he met earlier when coming to the colosseum. Though confused that a toy soldier could be alive, Rebecca explains that all the toys are like humans filling in for missing loved ones they do not have. Before she can go on further, it is announced that the ring has been fixed and the D-Block is set to begin. Rebecca heads off to fight though not before seeing Luffy eat the food that was knocked on the floor during their fight, claiming he did not want it to go to waste since she spent all her money on it. Rebecca requests to Luffy that they meet up in the finals and heads to the ring.[37]

Kyros Carries Scarlett's Dead Body

Thunder Soldier carries Scarlett's dead body.

As she does so she reminisces about her past. When she was little, she and her mother, Scarlett, lived alone in a cottage not far from the kingdom. However, one faithful day the kingdom was suddenly set on fire and pirates started attacking the people. Scarlett and Rebecca fled to Flower Field to wait out the onslaught. But after two days, Scarlett realized they needed food and headed back into the kingdom to retrieve some. However, it was the toy soldier who had returned to Rebecca carrying her mother's body, stating he could not protect her, as Scarlett was honoring her last request to bring food to Rebecca. After evading the men that were after the soldier, he vowed to protect Rebecca as the new king had ordered any blood relations of the old royalty be wiped out. To which Scarlett, and by extension, Rebecca, happened to be.[37]

Rebecca, still grieving for her mother, at first wanted nothing to do with him and headed back into town where Doflamingo had recently taken over the kingdom, promising to bring wealth to its people. The soldier followed after her, getting odd jobs for money in his search until he eventually found her being attacked by wolves. He fended them off and ever since the two have been together. They were given an old home to live in in the old parts of the kingdom and lived in peace for a time. Though not always in each other company due to Doflamingo's rules, the soldier promised to put a flower petal on her doorstep to assure her he was always near. However one day, bandits noticed Rebecca having no parents and planned to kidnap and sell her into slavery.[37]

The Soldier managed to rescue her albeit at the cost of gaining a bounty on his head. However, the incident made the Soldier realize he could not protect her forever and told her he must train her in order for her to protect herself. Back in the present, Rebecca affirms her vow to protect the soldier that had stayed by her side for so long. But as she goes out into the ring, the crowd begins to boo and jeer her. Luffy, confused, angrily asks why they are doing so to which one of the prisoners state that she is the granddaughter of the original king whom the people despise.[37]

As Rebecca continues to be jeered, Luffy cannot help but get angry stating it should not matter what her relatives did to deserve such hatred which the gladiators in the cell agree with. As those in the ring start plotting against Rebecca, Cavendish suddenly enters the ring on a white stallion. He chastises the crowd for their behavior toward Rebecca, defending her in the process much to the crowd and gladiator's astonishment. Despite this, the crowd start cheering for him much to Cavendish's happiness. With that, the D Block battle begins.[38]

Back at Flower Field, the Thunder Soldier rallies the Tontatta forces in preparation for the attack, mentioning that their battle with the Donquixote Family started ten years ago. As he speaks, Usopp silently plots to run away when it is convenient. Meanwhile in Arcadia, Zoro is trying to head back to the port with Wicca as his guide. As they make their way through town, Wicca states the dwarves know the names of the top agents of the Donquixote Family, as they had seen the invasion the day Doflamingo took over in which his crew easily decimated the Dressrosa army.[38]

Ekakiuta Hitoyogiri

Brook defeats Jora.

They soon run into Sanji and Kin'emon. When told of what is happening to the ship, Sanji instantly opts to go but Kin'emon suggests warning Luffy first. It is then that Violet shows herself to them and informs the group that Jora is taking the Thousand Sunny to Green Bit.[38] On the Sunny, the ship is moving thanks to Brook's music and Jora's art. Brook has seemingly betrayed the others who have been turned into a mural which Jora calls "Dying Art". She explains it will kill them within ten minutes. The reason Brook is not trapped is that Jora happens to be a fan of his. Brook offers to play some music for her to wait out the time, but asks that his violin and "bow" be returned to normal. Jora complies and no sooner than she does, Brook distracts and defeats her, which saves the others and changes all of them back to normal.[39]

Meanwhile on Green Bit, Law has been utterly defeated as Issho and Doflamingo stand over him, the latter having obtained Caesar's heart. As they wait for the Sunny to reach them, Doflamingo decides to tell Law a story. He reveals that eight hundred years ago, twenty kings from different countries met at the center of the world and created what would be known as the World Government. These people, whom were referred to as the creators, would go on to move their families to Mariejois, excluding the Nefertari Family, meaning only nineteen families moved there. The descendants of these creators are known as the Celestial Dragons. In their absence, new kings were elected in the kingdoms they left behind, forming new lineages. One of such was the Riku Royal Family of Dressrosa and the creator family who ruled before leaving for Mariejois were the Donquixote Family.[39]

While Law dealt with Doflamingo, Sanji split up from Zoro and Kin'emon, wanting to get to the Sunny to protect Nami. Sanji gave Kin'emon the map to the Toy House, and the two swordsmen reach the colosseum. They then argue on how they will get inside, seeing that the gate is closed. Meanwhile, Bartolomeo stood inside watching them, showing how big of a fan of Zoro he is.[40]

At the same time, Baby 5 sat in the Dressrosa Palace with Gladius, who belongs to the Pica Army. Gladius told Baby 5 how disappointed and angry he was about Violet's betrayal and ends up popping the top of his hat open revealing a mess of spiked hair.[40]

Sanji and Violet are riding a toy horse toward Green Bit to intercept the Thousand Sunny. Violet warned Sanji about the Marines that have arrived, and gives an explanation of her abilities, saying that she can see everything in a 4000 kilometer radius. Suddenly, Violet saw that the Thousand Sunny had been struck by lightning, shocking Sanji.[40]

On the Sunny, Jora is seen badly beaten by Momonosuke, Brook, Chopper and Nami.[40] The group asks why Law would want them to retrieve Caesar. Jora then revealed to them that Doflamingo did not resign from the Shichibukai, and is still an active member, breaking his and Law's promise.[41]

Sanji Stops Doflamingo

Sanji stops Doflamingo from attacking the Sunny.

On Green Bit, Doflamaingo stated that he is no longer a Tenryubito, but he does not have time to explain and takes Caesar's heart from Law, who reveals that he was just bluffing. The heart actually belonged to one of Issho's men, and Caesar's heart is somewhere hidden. Law uses Shambles to switch places with a small boulder, enraging Doflamingo as Law runs away. Doflamingo followed Law, just as the latter wanted. Law takes Caesar with him and flees to the bridge. Meanwhile, the Sunny team is being attacked by Fighting Fish. Doflamingo observes their ship and goes after them, attempting to massacre them right in front of Law. Suddenly, Sanji appears sending a Diable Jambe kick into Doflamingo's leg. Doflamingo is surprised but pleased that a strong opponent had finally arrived.[41]

Sanji and Doflamingo then begin to fight. Sanji sends a "Premier Hachi" at Doflamingo but the Shichibukai dodges it. Doflamingo shows off his string abilities and cuts up Sanji with his "Five Colored Strings". Sanji is badly beaten, while Doflamingo goes for the Sunny team once again. Before he can reach them, Sanji comes back with a devastating "Spectre" which Doflamingo deflects, stating Sanji is not half bad. But, Doflamingo then stops Sanji mid kick using his strings. As Sanji is unable to move, Doflamingo creates a large whip and swings his arm back, preparing to strike Sanji.[42]

At the same time, Law creates a ROOM around Doflamingo and the Sunny, switching places with a log he threw in the air. He then switches places with Doflamingo. Doflamingo sends the whip strike out, but instead of hitting Sanji is sent to Dressrosa and cuts a building in half. Law and Sanji jump onto the ship. Law, who still has Caesar Clown hostage, asks Sanji how the factory Destruction mission went. Sanji explains that the job is going to be harder than they thought. Law says they still need more time, and takes his heart out from inside the ship. Law tells Caesar he had Caesar's heart on his person and lets him have it.[42]

File:Fujitora Floating a Battleship.png

Issho launches his own battleship towards the Sunny.

Law then tells the group that they need to leave for Zo right away. The Straw Hats are surprised and maintain in reluctance to leave without their captain. However, a flying battleship interrupts the conversation, sending a cannon blast to the ship while meteors fall at the same time. The Straw Hats, scared, realize they will have to go. Sanji notices Law is focusing on Doflamingo too much, but Law ignores the cook and uses "Tact" to send the meteor into the battleship.[42]

Meanwhile, on the battleship, the Marines are reporting to Issho about the hole in the ship, but he is busy eating. Doflamingo then makes it back to Green Bit in extraordinary time, sending another whip strike at the Sunny. Law blocks the attack, causing the strings to wrap around his sword. Law explains that Doflamingo has eaten the Ito Ito no Mi, and can generate strings from his body. He uses these strings to thread through the clouds and swing on them.[42]

The crew uses a Coup de Burst to escape Doflamingo's wrath as Doflamingo and Law face off on the bridge to Green Bit, while Law is also holding Jora hostage. Law explains that he only teamed up with the Straw Hats to stop the production of SMILEs and bring Kaido's wrath on to Doflamingo, killing him. He then declares the alliance over, and tells Doflamingo that he will pay for what he did thirteen years ago.[42]

Doflamingo demands what Law plans to do with Jora, since his Family will do anything to help their captain. Law simply switches her with a rock and allows her to leave which she does quickly. Doflamingo states Law's grudge is just his pettiness of his past loss. But Law disagrees claiming he plans to fulfill the dedication of a person he knew. Thus, the two begin to clash on the bridge.[43]

Out at sea, Nami's group are trying to get back to Dressrosa while being on the lookout for Doflamingo. Chopper is worried about Law while Sanji calls Usopp and finds out he is with Robin and Franky. Upon hanging up, he notices Momonosuke quite unnerved over something. Momonosuke tells him that he saw Doflamingo before when he had previously came to the island with his father and their friend. Witnessing Doflamingo cruelly torture a subordinate for performing, in his opinion, poorly in the colosseum. After which their friend, Kanjuro, suggested they flee the island. However, in the process he was captured, prompting Momonosuke to worry about his safety. Sanji barely seems to be even listening as he thinks about Violet. A flashback showing that while they were riding on the horse, Violet had told him she had someone in the Government waiting for her to take her off the island and thanks Sanji for her help. He tried to get her to kiss him on the cheek, but she saw the school of Fighting Fish attacking the Sunny in her visions to which Sanji had taken off to go help the others.[43]

Corrida Colosseum Underground Prison

The losers of Blocks A, B, and C are revealed to be imprisoned.

Back in the present, Violet rides past a few people viewing the D-Block fight on a monitor. She shoots and destroys it with a pistol before asking the toy horse to take her back to the palace. At the colosseum, Bartolomeo has gotten the attention of Zoro and Kin'emon, he agrees to go tell Luffy that they are looking for him. In the ring, Rebecca is managing to hold her own by staying near the edge and knocking off the opponents who try to attack her. The announcer revealing that she has managed to win all her battles this way without causing any harm. However, she soon faces down Rolling Logan who sets his sights on her.[43] Meanwhile inside the colosseum's underground medical room, Sai demands to know why his grandfather has not come out yet. The guards state that he left out an exit in the room which Sai comes to believe. He takes his turn to be treated, but once on the examination table the guards open a trapdoor underneath him, dropping him into an underground room filled with broken toys where those who have lost in the tournament have likewise been dumped. As the former contestants wonder what is going on, Chinjao vows he will hold a grudge against Doflamingo for his actions.[44]

Eventually, more of the losers of the tournament are dumped into the pit and the group starts to wonder how to escape. Ricky is amazed that such a place exists underneath the kingdom. Tank realizes something about Ricky and asks if he is the former king of Dressrosa. Ricky, having no reason to hide his identity any longer, removes his helmet and confirms that he is indeed the former king, Riku Dold III. Tank weeps in happiness once this is revealed as he was a former soldier within the Riku army, even having entered the tournament to keep a watch over Rebecca. Elizabello II is likewise happy to see him, stating that Riku used to help out his kingdom in time of need. However, Sai, Boo, and Chinjao are less accommodating as they state that thanks to King Riku's actions, Doflamingo rose to power and using his weapon trading to supply the enemies of the Flower Country. It is also the reason why the Happo Navy is in Dressrosa, to find and cripple Doflamingo's weapon supply. Dagama likewise starts to insult Riku until he is stopped by Tank. He tells him they do not know what really happened, but Riku stops him. Most of the gladiators also reveal that they are former members of his army. A few of the toys rise up from the pile and they, along with the former soldiers, bow to Riku to the shock of everyone else. Hack reports to someone on a Den Den Mushi.[45]

Gladiators and Toys Bow Before King Riku

The gladiators and broken toys bow down to their former king.

Suddenly a glob lowers onto Sai and snatches him into the ceiling. Before he knows it he is suddenly in a dark room where Trebol orders him to a factory. Sai finds himself suddenly turned into a toy monkey unable to control his body as he does as he is told.[45] Meanwhile, Luffy continues to cheer for Rebecca but has trouble viewing her. He goes to get a better look but as he does, he cannot help but wonder if there is something off about the country. The gladiators do not deny it, stating that due to Doflamingo's rule, he has hidden the true nature of the island from his inhabitants and that losers like them are just considered trash and hidden away. Luffy cannot help but notice that it is similar to his homeland of Goa Kingdom. The gladiators give him a warning to be careful. He takes off but is spotted by Bartolomeo, who screams in admiration upon finding him.[46]

Back at the Flower Fields, Gancho explains the past of the Tontatta Kingdom. 900 years ago, the Tontattas had come to Dressrosa to find resources for their people. The former rulers, the Donquixote Family, had promised to help them. But in truth, they had enslaved them and forced them to make jewels and other materials away from the public eye. They are not sure what happened in most of that era as it is part of the Void Century, but eventually the Riku Family took over. Upon hearing the Tontattas' plight, the king pleaded for forgiveness and offered to help them. The kingdom flourished during those peaceful years until Doflamingo overthrew the Riku Family and regained the kingdom for the Donquixote Family. The tribe is determined not to go back to those dark days and plans to fight with all they have. Robin then asks the soldier about Rebecca and why the people hate her. He reveals it was due to the actions of Riku who thought he was doing the best he could for the country, but the truth was hidden from the citizens. The soldier tried his best to protect her, but ultimately she was caught and thrown in the colosseum. Usopp then asks who he really is which the soldier states that he is Rebecca's father.[45]

As Rebecca continues battling against Rolling Logan in the colosseum, [47] the Soldier explains the Riku Family's past. Ten years ago, Dressrosa was one of the most peaceful kingdoms on the sea. Though they were not a wealthy kingdom they had never gone to war. However, things changed when a woman, Monet, began working in the palace. One night, King Riku was sleeping when he was visited by Doflamingo who had come to take the kingdom from him. However, he offered to allow Riku to buy the kingdom if he could get the money before tomorrow night. The king gathered his men to discuss what to do and ultimately decided to ask the citizens for money. The people were confused at the sudden request of the king. However, when Riku went on a televised Den Den Mushi and personally begged them, they were more than willing to help. Tank even guaranteed that they would give it all back in the future. The troops managed to raise the money needed and headed back to the castle. However, they were suddenly confronted by King Riku who started attacking his own forces and people, begging them to stay away. It is revealed that Doflamingo had taken control of his body with his power. He takes control of the rest of Riku's troops and has them join in on the chaos. Doflamingo states that it is all part of his plan to make Riku look bad before he swoops in to become the "hero".[48]

Donquixote Pirates Executive Officers 10 Years Ago

Doflamingo's top division in Sebio, arriving to "save" Dressrosa.

Back at the palace, the king's daughter, Viola, watches this on screen. Before she can act, she notices snow falling and realizes it is Monet. When she confronts her, Monet reveals her true allegiance and lets in the Donquixote Family who proceeds to take over the place. Outside, the carnage continues with Riku powerless to stop himself, begging for someone to kill him. Eventually Doflamingo and his top lieutenants Trebol, Diamante, and Pica come "save" the remaining citizens from King Riku, gaining their favor and completing the takeover.[49]

Back in the present, Usopp surmises that Riku was put to death for his actions. The soldier corrects him stating that thanks to Viola, whose power Doflamingo was interested in, Riku was spared in exchange for her servitude to the family going under the name "Violet". Most of the soldiers likewise sided with Doflamingo under Riku's orders. The soldier once again reaffirms the loss of memories of loved ones to the victims that have been turned into toys who likewise are slowly losing their identity. The only thing constant is their hatred of Doflamingo which they hope to use to overthrow him. Franky gets riled up from the story and agrees to help. To Usopp's chagrin, not made any better when Robin agrees with him. His worry is not helped with the Tontattas reveal that they had planned to attack after heading the Straw Hats had landed on the island in lieu with Doflamingo's "resignation".[49]

Meanwhile in the underground scrap heap, only Riku and Chinjao are left though they do not seem to have any memory of the people that were once there. Even Chinjao seems to have forgotten he had grandchildren. However, Riku gets an odd feeling something like this had happened before. Both unaware that the former combatants have been turned into toys and forced to work in Doflamingo's factory against their will. Above ground, Luffy meets with Zoro and Kin'emon,[49] unaware that Bellamy is about to attack him.[50]

Panic Abounds: The Trigger That Sparks Dressrosa's Powder-keg

Just as Bellamy prepares to attack Luffy, thinking about what Diamante told him, Dellinger interrupts him. He mocks Bellamy, stating that he was ordered to kill him by Doflamingo whether he manages to assassinate Luffy or not, much to Bellamy's shock and anger. Back on the bridge, Law and Doflamingo continue to fight, but Doflamingo clearly has the upper hand as he slowly pushes Law back toward Dressrosa. During this, Diamante calls the Shichibukai to tell him of Violet's betrayal. Doflamingo takes it in stride and orders Lao G to guard the SMILES factory entrance while Diamante keeps watch over the Corrida Colosseum. Doflamingo then mocks Law's efforts to overthrow him, but Law states he believes "D. will bring another storm".[51]

Back at the colosseum, Luffy speaks with Zoro and Kin'emon which attracts the attention of the Marines. They tell Bastille of this who plans to wait so as not to alert the other criminals inside. However both his squad and he are suddenly having memory problems as they cannot remember the rest of the contestants besides Chinjao. Meanwhile, Kin'emon connects Luffy to Sanji who in turn connects them to Franky's group. They all report on their status, but Franky brings up how he wishes to help the dwarves and toys to overthrow Doflamingo. Luffy, remembering Rebecca's sorrow, agrees and gives his crew permission to go wild.[51]

Doflamingo Shoots Law

Doflamingo shoots Law.

However, at that point, Doflamingo and Law's battle has moved into the kingdom which catches everyone's attention. Law lands in front of the colosseum, laying defeated and bloodied on the ground. Doflamingo then promptly takes out a pistol and shoots Law at close range three times. Luffy, witnessing this, screams out for his ally.[51]

As the Straw Hat Pirates yells out across the Den Den Mushi, questioning what the commotion is about, Doflamingo soothes the citizens, blaming Trafalgar for the "Abdication Incident" that occurred earlier that day. When Luffy angrily demands what the Shichibukai has done, Doflamingo states that it is none of his business. Zoro and Kin'emon then quickly charges at the "Heavenly Yaksha", intending on rescuing their ally, with the samurai quickly informing everyone across the line of what has happened, when suddenly Issho intercepts Zoro. Using his "gravity" the admiral pins Zoro down. However, the swordsman manages to break free with a flying slash. At the same time, Kin'emon manages to reach Law, but before the samurai could rescue him, Doflamingo kicks him back. Luffy tries to help his friends, but only then realizes that the bars in the windows of the colosseum are made of Kairoseki. The entire crew is then shocked to realize that the blind gambler was actually an admiral.[52]

Doflamingo and Fujitora capture Law.

Doflamingo and Issho float above their opponents using their abilities, taking Law with them, and head towards the palace. The Shichibukai promises to explain everything to the Admiral, who replies that he will reserve judgement until he has heard everything. The Marines start chasing Zoro and Kin'emon, and they tell Luffy that he needs to find an exit.[52]

They hear the crew members aboard the Thousand Sunny panicking over the Den Den Mushi. They are now being pursued by the Big Mom Pirates, who are intent on sinking their ship and capturing Caesar, who had stolen money from Big Mom in the past to fund his research. Nami explains that they need to head to Zo, for three reasons: firstly, to keep Momonosuke and Caesar away from Doflamingo; secondly, if they lead the Yonko's crew towards Dressrosa, the chaos will ruin the revolution; lastly, to ensure that Law's sacrifice is not in vain, and to allow Franky, Robin, and Usopp carry out the plan and destroy the SMILE factory. Luffy approves of the plan to head to Zo and gives Sanji permission to fire back at Big Mom's ship. Franky's group prepares to head towards the SMILE factory, while Luffy (knowing that Law is still alive) plans to head to the palace with Zoro and Kin'emon in order to defeat Doflamingo and rescue their ally.[52]

Back in the colosseum, Dellinger's beating of Bellamy is stopped by Bartolomeo, who uses his barrier to keep him back. Bartolomeo reminds Dellinger of his orders from Diamante to go aid Lao G in protecting the factory. Dellinger begrudgingly goes to do so but warns them that the two will not get off Dressrosa alive. Bartolomeo goes to help Bellamy up, but he refuses help, having realized that Doflamingo really did order him killed. Bartolomeo, however, tells him he considers him a friend despite having fought against each other earlier.[53]

Back with Franky's group, the Thunder Soldier explains the operation, dubbed "Dressrosa S.O.P", to the group. Telling the three Straw Hats that they plan to go into a tunnel they have dug into the factory underneath the colosseum and destroy it. However he warns that they first have to deal with a devil fruit user, Sugar, who ate the Hobi Hobi no Mi and can turn people into toys and take away the memories of that person from others in the process. However, the soldier states he does not know what will happen to the island once the factory is destroyed and the toys are restored. Regardless, Usopp and Franky get the army ready for battle.[53]

At the colosseum, Luffy is trying to find his way out when he comes across Bartolomeo and Bellamy. The three talk with Bellamy agreeing to show Luffy a way out while stating his intention of staying loyal to Doflamingo. However Luffy notes if he leaves, Burgess could win Ace's Devil Fruit. Bartolomeo volunteers to win it for him but is suddenly interrupted by someone who knocks him aside, claiming he will win the Devil Fruit. When Luffy sees who it is, he suddenly starts crying.[53]

Koala Anime Infobox

Koala all grown up.

Later Luffy is out of the building and Kin'emon, Zoro, and he are in animal costumes which help them slip past the marines who mistake them for toys. Though Zoro is confused why Luffy is crying. Meanwhile in another area, a young girl is sitting on some beaten guards in an alley. It is Koala, now all grown up and part of the Revolutionary Army. She talks with the person Luffy met with earlier who likewise seems rather emotional from the meeting. The person, donned in Luffy's gladiator outfit states he will win the Devil Fruit. Back with the others, Zoro asks Luffy what's going on, and Luffy replies he "thought he was really dead" (referring to the mysterious person that Luffy met earlier).[53]

Back with Franky's group, the dwarves proceed with their plan and make their way to the underground factory. However the passage leading there is too small for Franky to fit through, so he proceed to go in through one of the topside entrances, both to get in as well as buy time for the others to find Sugar and break her power. Once he arrives he finds Senor Pink already guarding the place. His subordinates quickly identify Franky as one of the Straw Hats. Franky unleashes a Coup De Vent at the group and proceeds to follow up the attack. This commotion is heard by Doflamingo and his executive officers. As Franky continues he does not notice Pink "swimming" through the ground toward him.[54]

Franky Attacks Toy House

Franky attacks an entrance to the Toy House.

Meanwhile underground, the Tontattas help move Usopp and Robin toward the factory. Usopp talks with the Thunder Soldier about the Doflamingo Family who explains that he has three lieutenants who each control a section of his army. There's the Trebol Army, a Special Powers team of which Sugar, Violet, and Jora are a part of. The Diamante Army, whose specialty is fighting, includes Lao G, Senor Pink, Machvise, and Dellinger. The Pica Army, the commando unit comprised of Gladius, Buffalo, and Baby 5. He also mentions the executive officer Vergo and the officer Monet, but states they are away on business (unaware they were both killed at Punk Hazard). Eventually, the group reaches the factory where they see the toys are being forced to work or be thrown into the "Junkyard" if they do not meet their quota. As they finally reach the destination, Usopp and Robin peek out and notice that the place is really a huge harbor.[54]

Operation S.O.P.: The Separate Plans of the Determined

Back at the colosseum, the combatants continue fighting. Rebecca finds herself up against Suleiman "the Beheader", a class A Criminal. He cites that his crimes were for the sake of his homeland and asks if Rebecca still loves hers despite all the jeers against her. Rebecca retorts that what she does is for being with the Thunder Soldier and attacks. In another part of the ring, Orlumbus, an adventurer, defeats the fighting lion dropping the number down to thirty contestants. Among which are Cavendish, Mummy and Damask. Back at the underground harbor, Usopp notices that the Thunder Soldier is not with them, to which the Tontattas state once they break Sugar's powers, he will attempt to assassinate Doflamingo in the confusion. They show Usopp and Robin a layout of the area with Trebol and Sugar being kept in the tower in the center of the harbor. Suddenly two of the harbor's guards spot Usopp, mistaking him for one of the underground traders. Before they can question why he's there, the Tontattas quickly strip them and and knock them out, giving Usopp and Robin the guard's clothes so they can sneak around. With that Usopp orders the group to lead them to Sugar.[55]

Meanwhile, between the royal palace, toy house, and harbor. The soldier tries to get into an elevator to reach the palace but finds guards using it on their way to help Senor Pink against Franky. He stows away in a crate but realizing the lift will simply go back down to the harbor if he waits for them to get off. The soldier attacks the guards, all the while thinking of Rebecca and the days he trained her in combat. He vows to return the island back to the Riku Family. Back in the colosseum, all of the combatants have suddenly been knocked out in an instant, however through the smoke the announcer sees someone stand up.[55]

File:Hakuba Defeats Block D Competitors.png

Hakuba defeats the rest of the Block D Competitors (minus Rebecca).

As the smoke clears it is revealed that Rebecca has gotten back on her feet, with her left standing she is declared the winner much to the displeasure of the audience (save for those in the holding cells). Bastille, watching this, remembers an occurrence that was similar to what happened in the kingdom of Rommel, when a Marine ship was sent to investigate strange attacks. The Marines were defeated, but they managed to find out the name of the attacker, Hakuba. From Rebecca's brief flashback a moment ago, we see that in the middle of the battle, Cavendish had suddenly fallen asleep. As the other gladiators tried to attack him, another persona of Cavendish's awakened and took down everyone in the ring within minutes. Rebecca just barely managed to dodge one his attacks and was only knocked down briefly before Cavendish, or in this case his sleep-walking persona, Hakuba, reverted back to the former personality and fell back asleep allowing her to win. With that, the competition proceeded into the finals.[56]

At the palace, Doflamingo has King Riku brought to him and chides him and Viola for supposedly conspiring against him. He gloats that the alliance between Law and Luffy is broken and feels confident that his men can take Franky as well as the fact that Luffy is still in the colosseum (unaware that he is not) and that the others in his crew on the island will never find his secret harbor (unaware that two of the Straw Hat are currently down there).[56]

Meanwhile at the base of the Royal Plateau, Luffy, Zoro and Kin'emon are being led by Wicca to one of the palace's entrance lifts. Just as they reach there, they are suddenly met by Viola who offers to lead them inside.[56]

Back at the colosseum, the finals begin as the crowd grows excited to see the stadium's superstars get their turn to fight. Rebecca goes over to talk with Lucy, but notices it is not the same person. Luffy's replacement however assures her he knows of her plight and is there to help, citing the country is very similar to his own.[57]

While at the Royal Plateau, Viola introduces herself to Luffy's group. Wicca informs the others that she is the princess of the kingdom to their surprise. While Viola herself states she knew of the Tonttata's actions, thanking her for believing in her father. Viola then shows them a secret passage that was used for emergencies for the Riku Family that will take them into the palace. Kin'emon suggests Luffy head up it and pull the chain so they can ride up. Luffy agrees and Zoro and Kin'emon hop on with the latter beckoning Viola to join them.[57]

Back at the Toy House, Franky continues to fight the guards as well as Senor Pink who reveals he ate the Sui Sui no Mi, which allows him to swim in any surface like water. Eventually, Machvise joins the fray but Franky manages to dodge him. Suddenly Marines arrive, intent on capturing Franky.[57]

Inside the palace, it is revealed that Issho has agreed to lend aid to Doflamingo, but states that he does not trust the Shichibukai and intends to abolish the group. He knows Doflamingo stole the country from the Riku Family and warns that he will come for him later. In the meantime, he focuses on the matters at hand, stating to Doflamingo that it is the year of the Reverie and that no matter how much Doflamingo wishes it, the world will move in one way or another.[57]

Back at the colosseum, the finals begin with a new ring for the occasion. Koala arrives just in time to see it start as Luffy's replacement heads out into the ring, silently asking for Ace to watch over him.[57]

The battle is set to begin as all four contestants and Diamante enter the ring. Gatz reminds the audience of the top tier Logia Devil Fruit waiting for the victor. Although Lucy makes a mental note of Burgess as a member of the Blackbeard Pirates, Rebecca in turn makes a note of Lucy, saying that he is not the same man. However, the group is interrupted as three gladiators rush at Rebecca, saying that they refuse to be beaten by her and that they cannot accept such an outcome. Diamante steps in, telling the gladiators that "results are results" and holds his cape in front of his body. The gladiators rush at him but only injure themselves and break their swords. Diamante announces that this is a result of his Devil Fruit, the Hira Hira no Mi. He reveals that his cape is actually made of steel, only fluttering like a cape due to his powers. Consequently, he 'flutters' his sword into a bull shape and defeats the gladiators easily.[58]

Diamante also informs them that the new fighting fish are "befitting" for such an occasion and are sensitive to the smell of blood. Indeed, a fighting fish charges onto the bridge section and takes the gladiators with it. Gatz informs the audience that these reach contestants inside the ring and are more deadly as they are the "boss class fighting fish of each school". He also reveals that one fish carries a chest with the Mera Mera no Mi inside. Diamante makes this grand announcement, where the champion is the last man standing and the one to retrieve the Devil Fruit from this particular fish. The gong goes off, signalling the start of the five-man battle royale.[58]

At the Royal Palace, Viola tells the others that the doors lead to the ramparts and that there is a secret entrance to which they will take. She also states that they would have no chance of toppling Doflamingo if the top brass were involved, especially Pica. However, Kin'emon discovers that Luffy is missing but not for long as Luffy attacks the palace doors with a Gigant Pistol. Luffy announces the doors to be open, to which Viola tells the others to hurry through the doors as it is the fastest way of entry. One of the guards recognizes Luffy and informs Doflamingo due to the apparent contradiction. Doflamingo listens as he watches Lucy dodge a fighting fish on the screen. Baby 5 tries to confirm the identity of the intruders but the guard replies with the same: Straw Hat Luffy, Zoro and Viola are the intruders. At this Doflamingo becomes extremely enraged asking who is running around the colosseum as Lucy.[58]

In the lift, Thunder Soldier is getting thrown into a wall by Lao G. Kabu tries to come to the aid of his captain, but is easily beaten by Lao G after the latter puts on his glasses to see his tiny assailant. The dwarves express shock at the presence of an executive officer in the lift, Lao G gives a confusing explanation of how he ended up there, a result of being "mixed up". He affirms his stance as protecting the Toy House and refuses to let them in. However, Thunder Soldier suggests otherwise.[59]

Ishi Ishi no Mi Infobox

Pica blocks off Luffy's group in the palace.

As Luffy, Zoro and Viola advance through the castle, they notice that no guards are chasing them. At this moment, a face begins to form from the castle walls, getting bigger until it produces a full body. Viola curses as this stone monster is Pica of the Spade seat.[60]

Viola informs Luffy and Zoro that Pica ate the Ishi Ishi no Mi and can merge with the walls of the palace, allowing him to control any portion of it. Pica then merges his arms into the walls and brings them together to try to crush the trio.[61] Back at the colosseum, the finals are underway as a Fighting Fish tries to attack Burgess. But he manages to use a device on his arm to send it flying into the stands. The fish with the Flame-Flame Fruit emerges and charges for Rebecca who dodges. "Lucy" jumps onto the fish but Diamante attacks him claiming him to be Straw Hat. "Lucy" however smashes through his flag powered sword much to his surprise. Burgess then decides to take "Lucy" head-on using the attack from before. But much to his and the audience surprise, "Lucy" forms Haki over his hand and strikes at Burgess's elbow. The impact breaking away the armor. Upon seeing this and realizing the fighting style is not the same, Diamante starts doubting if the person really is Luffy.[62]

Sabo vs

Lucy and Burgess clash.

Back at the harbor, Usopp asks Leo what the tentacles around the tower are for to which Leo reveals the central pillar-like one is a lift to the royal palace while the others are tubes connected to the colosseum and toy houses which defeated gladiators and broken toys are tossed into leading underground Scrap Heap underneath the officer tower. At that moment we find Cavendish waking up in the tower and finding himself stuck to a bed by some ooze. It is then he is confronted by Trebol and Sugar, the former who reveals ate the Beta Beta no Mi and can make things sticky with his body. When Cavendish protests to be freed, Sugar touches him and turns him into a toy then makes a "contract" stating he cannot harm anyone and he will do as the family says. Cavendish is forced to obey and is sent out into the harbor where other former combatants such as Hack, Elizabello II, and Sai have likewise been forced to work in the factory.[61]

Usopp and Robin witness these actions and go over a plan of attack. Leo states they will slip in a solid ball of the world's spiciest seasoning, Tatababasco which they have made to look like a grape among Sugar's stash of regular grapes which should be enough to knock her out and start the revolution. With that, Usopp allows Leo to commence carrying out the plan while Robin and he will back him up.[61]

Trebol notices a fly, and using his Devil Fruit ability, he shoots the fly with enough force to knock it through the wall of the office tower. This scares all the dwarves, but Leo boasts that even if he can hit a fly, he will not be able to hit him, and runs towards the tower. As the other dwarves and Usopp cheer Leo on, Robin stops him.[63]

File:Dressrosa SMILE Factory.png

The underground SMILE factory

Inside the SMILE factory, an overseer is forcing the dwarves to work in the SMILE fields. He remarks that even though five hundred dwarves were kidnapped, their comrades still did not notice anything due to their naivety and since he is not going to get any more slaves, he will work the current ones to his heart's content. The man complains that they are too slow and whips them. As he inspects the fruits they have collected in a wagon, he notices that they have not even become SMILES yet. He kicks the wagon, knocking the fruits to the ground, and berates the dwarves. Although the dwarves are good with growing fruit, they complain that SMILE is an unusual fruit, but he is unconvinced and says they are just making excuses. One of the dwarves begs him to let his companion rest, and that the food they were given was rotten. The overseer lies and tells them that the only medicine that can heal their princess is SMILE and includes that only one out of every ten SMILEs can be used. They ask if they can be allowed to see the princess, but the man pretends to cry, saying that the "rare disease" might be infectious. The dwarves believe him, and, moved by his affection, and say that they will try their best to grow SMILEs.[64]

Outside the office tower, Leo is angry at Robin for stopping him, but she explains that if he were to just run in, he would have died. The fly that Trebol shot was hit clean between the eyes, meaning he could easily have attacked Leo. It is still too dangerous to target Sugar while she is being guarded by him.[64]

Bian creates a distraction at the port with some pink hornets, and Robin reports the disturbance to Trebol, saying that some pirates are demanding to speak with an officer about their payment. Hearing this, Trebol wonders that they do not fear Joker. He notices that Robin is not the usual person reporting, but she simply lies, saying that the other person has gone to eat. She also says that some people have been wounded. Trebol leaves to take care of the situation, but posts extra guards with orders to notify him if anything happens.[64]

As they reach the office tower, the dwarves ask Usopp why he will not fight Sugar. He bluffs that if he were to fight, the battle would be over instantly. He also says that this will help them gain confidence, but if anything happens he will be there to help them defeat Sugar.[64]

Entering the tower, the dwarves quickly surround Sugar. They tell her that they will take back their companions enslaved in the factory, and that they will make her pay. She replies that she does not know what they are talking about, and the dwarves believe her without wondering about it. Usopp tells them she was fooling them, and Sugar wonders who told them, as they are too naive to realize it by themselves. She drops her basket of grapes, saying that she did not expect them to do anything for at least a year, and that somebody must have encouraged this, The dwarves charge at her, with the aim of holding her down and opening her mouth to feed her the tatababasco ball. Sugar is upset somewhat that the dwarves seem to think she is weak, just because she is a young girl. Some of the dwarves charge in, but she turns them into toy bears. She makes a contract with them, forcing them to obey her orders. Usopp, watching this, is shocked, but the rest of the dwarves lose all memory of the dwarves who were turned into toys, and it appears to them that a group of toys suddenly appeared before them. Sugar gives the toys orders to slaughter everyone in the tower. The toy dwarves do not want to fight their companions but cannot disobey the orders given by Sugar due to their contract. The dwarves charge at the toys, who try to tell them that they are their allies but are unable to.[64]

Sugar calls Trebol on a Den Den Mushi, telling him return immediately, and that it is a trap. As he turns back, Robin points out that the pirates that were creating trouble are right before them. Trebol leaps at them, preparing to stop the fight, but they tell him that the disruption was due to hornets in the cargo, and they were holding up their end of the bargain. He turns around to see Robin running, and realizes that he has been tricked. He leaps again, catching her in his slime, but it is a decoy clone. He recognizes her face before the clone vanishes, and realizes that the Straw Hat Pirates are after Sugar. He grabs a ship with his ability, and slams it into the office tower.[64]

This attack interrupts the battle going on in the tower which causes the room to collapse shortly thereafter with everyone still inside. Robin manages to find Usopp amongst the rubble and revives him. Stating that Leo and the other Tontattas were captured by Trebol's sticky ability. Trebol grills Leo for information which, thanks to his usual gullibility, manages to give away who Usopp is. Regardless, Leo remains defiant. Trebol reveals that his sticky ability is also flammable which he proceeds to demonstrate by causing Leo to explode.[65]

Usopp manages to find Leo and states they must retreat, but Leo refuses and insists on continuing the mission.[65] On the royal palace lift, the elevator reaches the palace floor to which Lao G kicks the Thunder Soldier out of it.[66] As he lays on the ground, he remembers what happened earlier that morning when the news of Doflamingo quitting the Shichibukai had reached the colosseum. The prisoners inside start celebrating, but the Thunder Soldier inform them that it was a lie. He then talked with Rebecca who had decided to participate in the that days gladiator event as the spirits of the prisoners were breaking and the news was the final straw for her. The Thunder Soldier tried to dissuade her leading into an argument, which ended with Rebecca claiming he was not her real father and was just some stupid toy. She realized what she had said, but the damage had been done and he walked off, stating that what she said was true and that he hoped she would not participate in the game. Rebecca cried out an apology, begging him to come back.[65]

These are the same thought of Rebecca herself as she tries to fight against Diamante. However, thanks to her blunt sword it does no damage to him. Diamante quickly knocks her down and start mocking her over her mother's death. "Lucy" seeing this, orders Bartolomeo to protect her. Back at the palace lift, the Tontattas with the Thunder Soldier attack Lao G to allow the Soldier to recover. Kabu states that they cannot continue the mission without him as the soldier needs to be in position to kill Doflamingo once Leo's group complete their mission. Back underground, Usopp asks why the dwarves are risking their lives for the soldier. Leo explains that the soldier was the first victim of Sugar's power, but thanks to a mistake on her part regarding the contracts, he managed to keep his free will and has been fighting hard for ten years to help free the captured toys and Tontattas. Leo then goes on to reveals that the soldier is in fact the legendary gladiator, Kyros.[65]

Meanwhile, Luffy and Viola manages to avoid Pica's attack and make their way through the tower. However, Pica's powers are making it difficult to find their way around as he keeps making dead ends. Zoro is shown having stayed behind to fight the executive officer but is having trouble actually landing a blow on him. On the first floor of the Royal Palace, Kyros, Kabu, and Ranpo are trying to make their way further up when they have the misfortune to run into Gladius. The Tontattas members, knowing they stand no chance against him, decide to attack anyway to give Kyros an opening to slip by despite his objections. Gladius reveals he ate the Pamu Pamu no Mi which allows his to cause himself and anything he touches to swell up and explode. Gladius manages to catch up to Kyros and was about to explode his body when he is stopped by Luffy via Jet Stamp. He and Viola regroup with Kyros but are forced to flee when Gladius attacks them, furious that Viola would "betray" them.[67]

Viola is injured by the attack, but Luffy manages to grab her and, along with Kyros jumps out a window to which he uses his leg to stretch to the upper floor. As Gladius searches for them, he sees whom he thinks is Doflamingo but is really Kin'emon in disguise. He orders Gladius back upstairs which Gladius complies, mentioning that he was on his way to check on Kanjuro who has suddenly disappeared much to Kin'emon's surprise. On the second floor of the royal palace, Luffy's group sit outside the Room of Suits and spy on Doflamingo as he tries to get Law to tell him what he is up to. Law simply tells him he cut his alliance and does not know anything more beyond that. Likewise, Riku has nothing to say to Doflamingo either. Seeing the king, Kyros is relieved he is still alive but starts to wonder what is taking the Tontattas underground so long in completing their operation. He says he is counting on them so he can pull off his part of the plan in shooting Doflamingo.[67]

On the Royal Plateau, Franky finds himself surrounded by the Marines. Not wanting to drag the fight underground, he proceeds to attack them to hold down the fort, stating that he was counting on Usopp to pull off his part. In the underground trading port and the ruins of the tower, we find that Robin has been turned into a toy. She attempted to use her powers to hold Sugar in place and force feed her the Tatatabasco ball. But Sugar had touched one of her limbs which resulted in her getting transformed. Now stuck in the body of a doll, she states that all she can do now is count on Usopp. Over with the Tontattas, it is shown they have all been utterly beaten and can no longer carry out the mission. What is more is that Sugar has found the tainted ball and smells poison coming off of it. Seeing this, Leo thinks to himself that there is nothing more they can do and has put his faith in Usopp. However down at the trading port, we see Usopp making his way through the crowd, cowardly making his way out of the port and blaming Franky for not showing up to help them.[67]

Platanus Shuriken

Usopp bisects Trebol with Platanus Shuriken.

As Usopp tries to find an exit, Trebol orders his men back to work which they do by whipping the toys. However, the Tontattas start chanting "Usoland" much to Trebol and Sugar's confusion. Leo explains that Usoland is their hero and promised that he would not let them down. Trebol, though, mocks them for this, stating that Usopp was taking advantage of their gullible nature. Leo refuses to believe this and keeps his faith. Hearing all of this fills Usopp with guilt; he turns back and makes himself known. He admits to the tribe that he indeed did lie to them but now will become the hero he wants them to be, stating if he falls they better make a statue of him next to Noland. With that, he attacks Trebol and seemingly slices him in half.[68]

Back in the Room of Suits, Luffy, Viola and Kyros continue to wait on the Tontatta's signal. Kyros finds himself a sword and while overhearing Luffy and Viola talk about Riku fighting in the colosseum that day Kyros reminisces about the past. When he was fifteen he had killed two people during a fight which alerted King Riku and the guards. Kyros attacked the king and the guards were set to kill him but Riku halted them and had Kyros come with him. He was later put in the colosseum where he managed to achieve much victory though the crowd was not fond of him. Riku noted the people he has was put in jail with were beaten till near death by Kyros, who refused to eat anything. The only words out of him was a request to see Riku himself.[68]

After a battle, Riku visited Kyros in his jail who tells him the people he had attacked had killed a friend of his. As such, Riku made a deal with him, if he could get 100 wins he'd be released on parole. And thus four months later Kyros managed the feat though was still unpopular with the crowd. However, rather than leaving the coliseum he stayed, winning every battle he'd been in, eventually winning the crowd's favor and even attracting warriors from far off lands to battle him. Against all odds, he achieved his 1000th victory but afterward he visited the grave of his fallen friend. Riku followed him to which he lashed out that Riku would not understand his pain. Kyros however started to break down crying, as he noted that despite his accomplishments, he will always be branded as a murderer and wish people would just forget about him.[68]

Nine years later, he fought against Riku in his "Ricky" persona in the colosseum and managed to win giving him 3,000 victories. Riku then requested it was time for Kyros to leave the colosseum. Thus, Kyros was made captain of the Royal Army. However Riku's daughter, Princess Scarlett, objected to this, still seeing him as a murderer (despite Viola claims to contrary after she uses her powers) and forbid him from ever touching Viola or her even though he was assigned to protect them. However one day Scarlett was kidnapped by pirates, Kyros set off after them and effortlessly rescued her. Despite remembering her warning and awkwardly trying not to touch her, she was more than grateful to him. Time passed and the two grew close and fell in love. Eventually Kyros requested to leaves his daughter's guard to marry her. Riku was more than willing to allow it but was afraid what the people would think given his past.[69]

However, Scarlett came up with an idea to fake her death, which allowed the two to marry in secret. Some time later, Rebecca was born and Kyros promised he would always be by her side. However, the day the Doflamingo Family took over arrived. Seeing the kingdom burning, Kyros ventured to the kingdom to find out what was happening, telling Scarlett to wait for him at the Flower Field. He made his way into the palace but was captured and chained to a Seastone cuff around his leg. Doflamingo then proceeded to try and kill Riku, but Kyros cut his own left leg off and tried to attack him. Sugar however got in his way and used her powers to turn him into a toy. He managed to escape with Riku but was now no longer remembered. Kyros then tried to go back to the Flower Field, but halfway there he saw Scarlett murdered right before his very eyes. What is worse is that she died in his arms, unable to even remember him much to his sorrow.[69]

Kyros is eventually brought out from his memories by Viola and Luffy calling for him. Viola spots Gladius and some of the guards searching for them. With time running short, Kyros cites they might have to attack Doflamingo earlier than scheduled. He then asks Luffy if he and his friends are pirates. When Luffy confirms this and asks if that is a problem, Kyros states otherwise, being all too familiar with notoriety.[69]

File:Usopp Scares Sugar Manga.png

Usopp's expression causes Sugar to faint.

In the colosseum, the fight is destabilizing the building and the guards note it will not hold up much longer. "Lucy" and Burgess continue to duke it out while Diamante continues to mock Rebecca over her mother's death, who is shocked by the revelation, as Bartolomeo tries to protect her. At the Toy House, Franky had been defeated and is surrounded by marines as well as Senor Pink and Machvise. He pleads for Usopp to hurry in his plan. The dwarves continue to cheer for Usopp. Former coliseum contestants cheer for him and pledging to even help the Straw Hats if he manages. However Usopp is shown to have been thoroughly beaten unconscious, being held down by Trebol's sticky powers. As a final insult, Sugar feeds him the Tatabasco ball thinking it is poison. However, the ball soon takes effect and Usopp makes a horrendous face as he screams in pain. So much so that Sugar, whose right next to him when it happens, shrieks out in terror from seeing it and passes out much to Trebol and Leo's shock.[69]

The Curse Lifts: Chaos Rises in Dressrosa

Kyros Decapitates Doflamingo

Kyros decapitates Doflamingo's Black Knight clone.

As Sugar falls unconscious, her power over the toys is broken and all that were turned are changed back to their original appearance. With this, people's memories begin to return as well. In the harbor, Robin reaches Usopp as the Tontattas praise him for his bravery. Usopp tells them his friends will take care of the rest. As the nation begins to fall under a panic and people begin screaming for Doflamingo's head, Doflamingo's crew begin to panic while he himself is not pleased by the events. At the palace, Pica breaks off the fight against Zoro. On the second floor, Luffy realizes the toy soldier is gone and then notes a man unfamiliar to him rushing into the building. Viola, whose memories have returned, tells him that is Kyros and he was the toy soldier, as well as his relation to Rebecca and his mission of protecting her. In the throne room, Riku himself is regaining his memories of him. Just as he does, Kyros bursts into the room and makes a beeline straight for Doflamingo. He apologizes to the king for making him wait and swiftly decapitates Doflamingo. Upon hearing the shock from Doflamingo's crewmates, Luffy and Viola rush into the building.[70]

Back in the colosseum, the match is halted as the toys turn back into people. As Diamante grumbles about the loss of their control over the island, Rebecca regains her memories of her father. Noticing this, "Lucy" decides to end the fight and uses his Dragon Claw attack to demolish the ring of the colosseum, causing it to break apart and drop to the underground. Seeing this, Koala calls Hack and tells him "he" is coming Hack's way.[70]

The colosseum begins to crumble and the audience makes to evacuate. In the midst of the chaos, "Lucy" jumps to the fighting fish that carries the Mera Mera no Mi, opens the chest and quickly eats it as everyone that was in the ring falls to the lower levels. He then saves Rebecca and uses his newfound flame power to further blow a hole into the underground harbor. Down below, Trebol attempts to attack Usopp as the dwarves try to carry him to safety. Robin manages to block his attack. It is then Hajrudin shows up and picks up Usopp. He displays him to the former slaves, proclaiming him as their savior. Indeed, the workers are indebted to him, to which Usopp asks them to destroy the factory. They begin to do so as Diamante and Burgess recover from the fall.[71]

Meanwhile, Bartolomeo regroups with "Lucy" and Rebecca, the former of whom ditches his disguise and finally reveals himself to be Sabo, the General Officer of the Revolutionary Army. He in turn meets back up with Koala and Hack. Rebecca asks why they infiltrated the kingdom, to which Sabo states that weapons were being supplied from the country and they had come to stop it. However, their informants kept disappearing, so they eventually came to the country personally to check it out. Sabo also states that Luffy, the former "Lucy" Rebecca had met, is his brother and an ally of theirs. However, he notes the weapons are not being built in the country and hopes to find it.[71]

Revolutionaries in Dressrosa

Sabo and the Revolutionaries in Dressrosa.

Back in the Royal Palace, everyone is shocked that Kyros has managed to behead Doflamingo. Buffalo tries to retaliate, but gets thrown out a window for his trouble. Luffy and Viola finally arrive into the room followed by Gladius, who's just as shocked to see the decapitated Doflamingo. Luffy makes to free Law, but Law keeps stating that their alliance is ended and even threatens to attack Luffy if he frees him, but Luffy does not listen. However, the floor suddenly shifts as Pica arrives into the room. What's more, Doflamingo is revealed to still be alive, despite his head separated from his body. He states that he will have to use something called "The Birdcage", a name that visibly shocks Law.[71]

In the underground port, Doflamingo's men worry due to recent developments though assure themselves that Doflamingo's top lieutenants will protect the factory. Elsewhere, Robin finds the Revolutionary group, who remember her from the time skip, and introduces Usopp to them. At the front of the lift topside, Kin'emon, still disguised as Doflamingo, tries to make his way in, while at the front of the Rampant Tower, Zoro has gotten himself lost while trying to look for Pica. Back in the Royal Palace, everyone is perplexed that Doflamingo still lives. Kyros goes to attack again but suddenly another Doflamingo appears behind him and tries to cut off his head. Luffy just barely manages to save Kyros as the attack shears off the top half of the building. The two Doflamingos try to strike at the two but Luffy manages to roll Kyros and him out of the way. He retaliates with Jet Gatling, but Doflamingo blocks it with Armament Haki, then has his clone attack Luffy from behind, pushing him to the real one who punches Luffy across the room.[72]

Dressrosa Reconfigured

Dressrosa under the "Birdcage."

Doflamingo then tells Riku that what he plans to do next will make what he did in the past to the king look small in comparison. Riku pleads with Doflamingo to leave the country alone, but the Shichibukai has Pica toss the group out of the building, though Luffy saves everyone with his balloon ability. Doflamingo then reveals that the clone was a puppet made of string which then unwinds and shoots into the air, making a cage of strings around the island, preventing anyone from leaving and cutting off communication with the outside world. What is more, some of the strings begin controlling people and causing them to attack one another randomly. Pica then uses his powers to rise the Palace and the factory out of their current location and have it tower over the rest of the island.[72]

Doflamingo then makes a broadcast across the island, stating that he intends to rule the island with an iron fist before proposing a game in which people are welcome to try and kill him at the palace. However, he also offers an alternate option: kill the people that he names to which he will give the recipients a nice bounty. He declares that everyone on the island is now a bounty hunter and that they must kill if they wish to save themselves.[72]

Locked in the Cage: Doflamingo's Despicable Bounty Hunting Game

Doflamingo lays out the situation; no one can get in or out of the kingdom nor can anyone contact the outside world. Random people will be forced to attack their family, friends and loved ones. This will continue until someone either stops Doflamingo or when his demands are met.[73]

Doflamingo's Hit List

The twelve targets of Doflamingo's game with up to five stars.

In the former underground port, Kin'emon manages to meet up with Robin's group, having had to ditch his Doflamingo disguise when people started coming after him. Bartolomeo is introduced to Robin and Usopp, once more giddy over meeting more of the Straw Hats. Above ground, more chaos continues as Doflamingo sets about displaying the people with bounties, or as he calls them, "stars": Luffy, Zoro, Robin, Franky, Law, Riku, Kyros, Viola, Rebecca, Kin'emon, and Sabo (each of them have stars ranging from one star to three stars). Usopp starts to relax when it seems as though his name is not mentioned. However, that quickly subsides when he was displayed last as the one with the highest bounty, with a total of five stars, largely for exposing Doflamingo's true nature (much to his and the dwarves' horror). The pirates that were initially worshiping Usopp quickly betray him, forcing Robin's group to run for the surface. Kin'emon finds a chute going downwards towards the scrap heap and jumps in, hoping to find Kanjuro.[73]

Meanwhile the citizens of the country debate on whether to go after Doflamingo or the bounties to save themselves. Elsewhere, in the Underground Trading Port, Bartolomeo manages to keep back the pirates with his barrier, allowing Robin's group to go on ahead. Robin then receives a call from Zoro who met up with Luffy's group and they go over current situations. When Rebecca overhears Luffy, she asks about the Thunder Soldier, who Luffy reveals is her father, causing her to realize Kyros has been with her the whole time. It is then that Riku and Viola notice Kyros has run off on his own to confront Doflamingo.[73]

Luffy promises Rebecca he will not let anything happen to him and vows to beat up Doflamingo with the only thing he wants in return of her is to survive until then. Law chimes in saying that the plan was to destroy the factory and have Doflamingo fight Kaido and states if they kill Doflamingo now, Kaido's wrath will be turned toward their alliance rather then Doflamingo as he wanted, but Luffy does not care, citing the plan is useless anyway if they are trapped on Dressrosa. On the ground level, Bastille orders his troops to protect the citizens and to go after Luffy and Law much to the battalion's confusion that they are not going after Doflamingo. With that, Luffy grabs Law and Zoro and starts running for the palace, yelling that he is coming for Doflamingo himself![73]

As the chaos on the island escalates, Maynard meets back up with Bastille who scolds him for going off on his own against orders. However, Maynard states that he found out something that could shift the world. In the underground harbor, Koala finds that the ships there were not pirate ones but rather fronts for a kingdom. Back on the surface, Maynard asks Issho why they do not arrest Doflamingo. Issho answers that it is thoughts like that that keep causing disasters that are currently happening and that the cries of the people are not of sadness but of rage. He then presents a question to Maynard: Is the World Government meant to be Gods? Maynard is shocked by this line of thought before Issho tells him he will not steer him and his troops on the wrong path.[74]

Back at the palace, most of the Doflamingo Family have gathered. Trebol asks if its okay to have the factory unguarded to which Doflamingo cuts the keys as a sign of his confidence that no one will be able to get in. Lao G chastises Trebol and Diamante for their failure but Doflamingo forgives them given the circumstances. Pica then appears and states he will take care of Doflamingo's enemies. However, his high pitched voice causes the subordinates to take notice and one cannot hold in his laughter which angers Pica and the rest of the Family. Baby 5 shoots the man to prevent Pica from going on a rampage. Doflamingo then tells his men that his mother died when he was eight and he killed his father when he was ten. His crew has been like a family to him since those days and he would not let anyone laugh at them.[74]

Giant Pica

Pica turns into a giant version of himself.

Back at the Toy House, Dellinger, Machvise and Senor Pink are staring at the chaos on the island not noticing Franky secretly escaping while no one was looking. The three officers then realize his disappearance and start looking for Franky, unaware that he's heading for the factory that's now out in plain view. In the midst of their search, Luffy, along with Law and Zoro, wind up landing right in front of them and their men. Senor Pink grabs Luffy's legs while Machvise tries to squash him, with Law mentioning he is a "Super Weight Man". Luffy manages to dodge, but his leg end up being caught underneath his body. Dellinger makes to attack Luffy but Zoro hits him from behind, causing him to kick Machvise off Luffy's legs by accident. The rest of the subordinates attack. Zoro is unable to counterattack since there are innocent people in the mix. Luffy starts to use Haki but the men are stopped when Issho shows up and orders them to drop their weapons. Luffy recognizes him as the gambling man from when they first arrived on the island.[74]

Meanwhile in the colosseum, Robin's group is still trying to outrun the pirates which is so far helped by Bartolomeo's barrier. Hack notices that Sabo is not with them and has headed off on his own. On the former Plateau, Riku and Viola watch the chaos below wondering what they can do. As Zoro starts clash with Issho, rock structures begin to rise before it forms into a giant Pica, ready to destroy Doflamingo's enemies. Luffy, seeing him, hears his high voice and starts to laugh much to Pica's fury.[74]

Pica goes to attack Luffy, forcing everyone, including Pica's allies to run for it. As Pica punches at Luffy, it sends everyone in the vicinity flying. Luffy's group winds up landing near the now destroyed colosseum. There they meet up with Cavendish, now back to a human. He tells Luffy he's called off his vendetta against him and his crew as he owes Usopp for saving him but wishes to take on Doflamingo himself much to Luffy's anger as he wants to beat Doflamingo. Suddenly more former colosseum contestants show up: Don Chinjao and his grandsons, Sai and Boo (who state they're now allies with the Straw Hats), Hajrudin, Blue Gilly, King Elizabello, Dagama, Abdullah, Jeet, Ideo, Orlumbus, and Suleiman all wishing to help return the favor for Usopp by taking on Doflamingo as well for their own reasons. Luffy becomes more irritated that they are getting in his way. The only one spared as such is the Fighting Bull, who instantly recognizes Luffy without his disguise. The group then defeat the pirates after the bounties.[75]

Luffy and the Corrida Colosseum Gladiators Going After Doflamingo

Luffy, Zoro, and several of the gladiators go after Doflamingo.

The Doflamingo Family go to search for Luffy under Pica's orders. They manage to find him only to see that he's now being followed by the colosseum contestants who are all in a race to get to the palace to fight Doflamingo. Pica goes to attack the group only to be hit by Don Chinjao's earth splitting ability and Elizabello's "King Punch" which breaks apart his arm.[75]

The attack halts Pica for a moment allowing Luffy's group to run through. Pica's unit attacks them but are quickly felled by Ideo, Orlumbus and Cavendish. Pica then sets to attack the group once more. Chinjao and Elizabello get ready to counter again but Zoro tells them it is useless as Pica can just reassemble his arm and most they can do is dodge. Pica punches at the group, but they manage to avoid him.[76]

Luffy, Zoro, Law, Abdullah and Jeet, riding on Fighting Bull, head up Pica's arm. As Zoro stated, Pica reforms his destroyed arm and sets to attack but Luffy goes into Third Gear, puts Armament Haki over his arms and hits Pica's head with Grizzly Magnum. Zoro states it was just stone that was being controlled by the real one whom the group manages to spot. Pica takes out a giant katana and attacks the Bull, but Luffy saves it by carrying the bull and jumping over the sword. Pica tries to strike the bull again but Zoro hops off and clashes with Pica, telling the others to go on ahead. The other pirates, noticing Pica's not moving, start climbing up the stone structure as well.[76]

As they continue on, Law admits to Luffy that his original plan was flawed and that he has a vendetta against Doflamingo for killing someone close to him named Corazon, an executive officer of the Donquixote Family who saved his life. He also happened to be Doflamingo's younger brother.[76]

Pica's larger stone body remains still due to his confrontation with Roronoa Zoro, allowing the colosseum group to push forward. The Donquixote Family subordinates attempt to hold them off, but to no avail. Dellinger, Machvise, Gladius, Baby 5, and Lao G watch on from the second level of the newly located Royal Palace, amused at the group's momentum. They are impressed, but still confident that they will not make it through Admiral Fujitora's forces. Baby 5 comments that the Straw Hats still managed to stop Pica.[77]

A map of Dressrosa is shown, showing the locations of: Zoro as he battles Pica; Monkey D. Luffy and Trafalgar Law as they reach the first level of the palace; the colosseum group advancing towards the Marines; and Kyros fighting his way through individually. The Dressrosa citizens attempt to reason with Kyros to give himself up without a fight. They explain that they are not interested in his bounty, but that their deaths are guaranteed if all of the bounties are not collected. Kyros empathizes with their logic, but tells them that he too must accomplish something, charging at them. At the former Royal Plateau, Nico Robin's group reach King Riku and Viola from the colosseum, along with Tank Lepanto. Bartolomeo is disappointed that Luffy is not there, while Leo and the Tontatta are confused by Pica's larger form and the new location of the Royal Palace. Rebecca points out that they still have pursuers, but Robin easily dispatches them by making the net she had created for climbing up the plateau disappear.[77]

Viola finds the key to Law's handcuffs and expresses her intent to free him. King Riku attempts to persuade her otherwise because Law and Luffy are pirates, but she replies that is precisely why they are the ones who can truly help their country. She goes on to say that the World Government granting Donquixote Doflamingo a special status and protection as a Shichibukai is precisely how their country ended up in this predicament, and therefore she has no interest in their definition of justice. She claims they only listen to the cries of the people when it is convenient for them, whereas the Straw Hats have acted from a place of sincerity. The Tontatta agrees and brings King Riku up-to-date on how Usopp was responsible for the lifting the curse of the Hobi Hobi No Mi. They tell him that they also support the Straw Hats wholeheartedly. Rebecca decides that she will get the key to Luffy, with Bartolomeo enthusiastically asking to come along as well so he can see Luffy again. Viola warns her niece of the danger, but Rebecca assures her that she will be fine. This prompts Leo and Kabu to also offer to accompany Rebecca for further support. Everyone agrees to meet up again at the Royal Plateau afterward.[77]

Sabo Confronts the Marines

Sabo confronts the Marines.

Franky reaches the factory and prepares to fire his Radical Beam. However, before he can release it, Senor Pink emerges and attacks him, wishing to continue their previous fight. At the Royal Palace, the colosseum group has begun to climb the palace. This alarms the officers, as they were confident that the attackers would not make it through the Marines. As Luffy fights his way through level 1 of the plateau, the colosseum group catches up to him. Baby 5 notices that the Marines are being held back by a large wall of flame. Fujitora asks Sabo if there is no way he can convince the Revolutionary to move. As a member of the Revolutionary Army, Sabo explains that he will not let anyone pass who attempts to bring harm to Luffy or his allies. He then corrects himself, saying that he is also doing this as a big brother. This leads Fujitora to question just whose brother Sabo is.[77]

Fujitoria's troops try to attack Sabo, but he manages to fend them off with both his fighting abilities and newfound fire powers. Even Vice-Admiral Bastille is no match against him. In the midst of this, Issho tries to use a meteor to break the birdcage but all it does is slice up the rock and rain down smaller chucks near their area. Sabo comes out unscathed and Issho once more queries about Sabo's brother as Ace was supposedly Luffy's brother. Sabo reveals he is also Luffy's brother and vows to help Luffy wherever he is, not wanting to let another tragedy like Ace's death happen again. Issho decides to drop the questioning and goes on the attack, resulting in a clash between him and Sabo.[78]

Get Doflamingo! The Perilous Race Up the Plateau

On level one of the plateau, Luffy notices that the other gladiators have gotten ahead of him. A few of Doflamingo's troops try to kill the bull he's riding on. But are stopped by the combined form of the Funk Brothers who likewise are out to repay their debt to Usopp for freeing them. They tell Luffy they have found a secret way to Level 4 and lead him to it. However, Abdullah and Jeet wind up knocked off as they do not see the tunnel overpass. Law asks Luffy when he plans to take off his cuffs to which at that moment, Robin calls and tells him they have Law's key and are going to head his way to deliver it, though do not reveal how they'll catch up. Luffy tells them to meet him on Level 4. However, they soon run into a dead end in an area knee deep in water. A voice tells Luffy that it is not a secret passage but just a well that got re-shifted with the landscape. Luffy turns to the voice and finds himself face to face with Doflamingo.[78]

Luffy instantly attacks Doflamingo, but the Shichibukai counters and attacks the Fighting Bull causing Luffy to fall into the water of the well. Doflamingo mocks Luffy and Law and prepares to finish the two when Abdullah and Jeet arrive and attack Doflamingo from behind. However, he turns out to be another string puppet who retreats. The duo help Luffy and Law up, revealing that the Funk Brothers purposely lead Luffy into the well but was attacked by Doflamingo's puppet before they could attack him. They also reveal that the other gladiators have made their way to the second level. To which Kyros has recently arrived to.[79]

As the gladiators press forward, Luffy uses his Elephant Gun to create a passage upward. He entrusts the Fighting Bull to Abdullah and Jeet before grabbing Law and continuing on, having gotten ahead of the others. Back on the former Palace Plateau. Leo reveals that Robin's group will travel across the city using stag beetles tied to their arms. The group is doubtful of the plan at first till Leo reveals that the beetles will float them over the city like balloons as long as they keep touching the roofs. With this, the group make their way to the palace. Battles continue to rage across the island as Franky continues fighting Senor Pink, Zoro continues clashing against Pica and Sabo engages Issho. At the foot of the Royal Palace, Luffy runs into Cavendish who states he has a plan.[79]

Back in the palace, Doflamingo tells the others that he was trying to give something to Law but failed. He then starts recounting Law's past. As a youth, Law came into Doflamingo's place with grenades strapped over him. He requested Doflamingo to let him join his crew stating that he came from the White Town and that he wanted to destroy everything since he did not have much time left anyway.[79]

Corrida Colosseum Gladiators vs

Fighters from the Colosseum set aside their pride, working in cohesion to clear a path toward Doflamingo for Luffy and the others.

However, the story is interrupted by the arrival of Bellamy who demands to know why Doflamingo sent Dellinger after him. Doflamingo states that their objectives are different, while Bellamy just wanted to be a pirate, Doflamingo wishes to destroy the world. Back on the Royal Plateau, the Doflamingo Family personally engages against some of the coliseum warriors. Dellinger manages to beat Suleiman, and Gladius prevents Don Chinjao from scaling the cliff with his exploding ability. Machvise crushes Boo while Lao G and Baby 5 fight Orlumbus and Dagama. Meanwhile in the village, the citizens are doing all they can to keep the string controlled people from attacking and tending to the wounded. One of them reports they spotted Riku and they set off to capture him in the hopes of ending the massacre. Inside the SMILE factory, the dwarves are being forced to continue to work despite hearing and feeling the chaos outside. However they spot some bees controlled by Bian as well as Wicca and Inhel and she outside the glass dome. Using the bees, Bian sends a message to her fellow dwarves to open the factory from the inside and to fight. The dwarves inside the factory realize they have been lied to about their princess and proceed to attack their oppressors.[80]

Back on the second floor of the royal plateau, Cavendish tells Luffy that he plans to opens a path so Luffy can get to Doflamingo. However, he realizes they have an extra passenger, Kyros, who followed them through the hole Luffy made and jumped aboard Cavendish's horse. Luffy then tells Kyros that Rebecca is likewise heading for Flower Fields to Kyros' shock and worry though Luffy reassures him that she is with one of his crewmates. Kyros states that he has business on the plateau as there is someone he wishes to kill to Luffy's worry. The group reach the entrance and find it being guarded by the coliseum warriors who, thanks to Dagama, have regrouped and are now fighting off the Doflamingo Family effectively. Dellinger tries to take out Dagama, but Dagama manages to grab him in the attack. The warriors allow Cavendish, Luffy, Law, and Kyros to ride past. Luffy and Cavendish proceed to defeat any enemy in their way.[80]

File:Kanjuro Manga Infobox.png

The samurai Kanjuro is introduced.

Meanwhile beneath the Royal Plateau in a prison dungeon, Kin'emon has managed to finally find his friend, Kanjuro, who reveals he has a power to hide in walls and has done so since the two last saw each other. Kanjuro reveals another ability to create anything he draws come to life by making a bird so Kin'emon and he can fly out. As they start to do so, the soldiers and citizens within the dungeon beg them to help them escape as they reveal they were toys under Sugar's spell and want to help their country.[81]

Back on the newly formed Royal Plateau's Second Level, Cavendish, Luffy, Law, and Kyros are making their way further up. Luffy can see the battle below as the coliseum warriors engage against some of the officers of the Doflamingo Family. While Luffy is worried for them, Cavendish reaffirms that they must beat Doflamingo as he knows even if they bring in the bounties Doflamingo wants, he will not release the Birdcage as his operations have been exposed and he will do everything he can to keep the information from getting out. Thus the only true recourse is to bring down the Shichibukai himself if they wish to leave the island alive, though Luffy, Cavendish, Law and Kyros argue who will be the person to defeat him. As they reach the third level, they find themselves suddenly facing giant toy soldiers.[81]

On top of the Pica statue, Zoro and Pica continue to battle. In the midst of the fight, Zoro spots Robin's group flying overhead. She yells for him to keep Pica busy as they make their way further up the plateau. Seeing this, Pica takes control of the statue and tries to attack them. However, he's stopped by Zoro who slices the statue in half injuring Pica in the process, boasting that Pica was never in his league to begin with and tells him he's the man that's going to be "The World's Greatest Swordsman".[81]

Back underground in the former harbor, Kanjuro has created ladders for the imprisoned guards to climb out of. Back at the factory, the dwarves battle against the guards who try to trick them into thinking they have their princess. However, the dwarves counter this by putting earphones on over their ears and proceeding to beat them up and take away their Den Den Mushi so they cannot call for reinforcements. One dwarf, Maujii makes his way to the room where their princess is kept, which is laden with "Keep Out" signs due to her "sickness". He winds up crashing into it as he goes too fast to stop himself. The dwarves discover that it is just a storage room with no one inside.[82]

A few of the other dwarves are trying to get the front door unlocked, but are suddenly hampered by the factory boss. Kyuin proceeds to suck them up into a vacuum, but she is interrupted by Franky and Senor Pink's fight moving into the factory thanks to the now unlocked door and Franky tricking Pink into accidentally headbutting Kyuin. After Franky and Pink comically and passive-aggressively tell Kyuin to stay out of their battle, the two resume fighting.[82]

Back at the plateau, Zoro and Pica continue to clash while Robin's group get closer to the Flower Field. Leo receives a call from Maujii informing him that their princess isn't in the factory. This news reaches back to Riku and Viola back at the former king's plateau where Usopp notices some of the citizens coming their way. Viola calms him by stating that they now know the truth behind the incident years ago and will not hurt Riku. On the subject of Mansherry, Riku has Viola use her ability to look into the palace, stating that Doflamingo will not hurt her since he needs her "power", but Riku and those fighting against Doflamingo need it now more than ever. In an unknown room in the Royal Palace, a guard brings some food to Mansherry, who is crying within her prison and begging Leo to rescue her.[82]

As Viola looks through the palace using her powers, Kin'emon and Kanjuro reunite with her and Usopp on the plateau. However, Kanjuro, in a misguided attempt to help the citizens, had drawn a net which means people are climbing up toward where they are. While Usopp scolds him for this, Viola manages to find Mansherry. They call Robin's group and inform them that she's being held in a room behind the chapel a.k.a the "Timeout" room where Viola was sent for punishments she would receive with dwarves when she was younger. Scarlett would often visit them down there and bring them some food. The group states they'll save the princess as they near level 4. However, they're suddenly attacked by Gladius from the ground. He manages to knock Robin and Bartolomeo out of the air. Robin yells for Rebecca to keep going as she uses her power to prevent Gladius from attacking further.[83]

Back with Usopp's group, Viola states she thought she saw something look like a toy. Scanning through the palace confirms her fears: Sugar is awake and back on her feet. Usopp freaks out knowing she will be coming after him for revenge but gets even more worried when he realizes that Luffy does not know about her abilities yet. Sure enough, Sugar, now having a phobia of long-nosed people, turns one unfortunate henchman into one of the skull-faced toy soldiers seen earlier and angers over her loss; she vows to turn Usopp and the rest of the Straw Hats into toys. Meanwhile at the Palace Plateau, Cavendish tries to have his horse run through the toy soldiers, but one of them manages to cripple it by gnawing at the horse's head. Luffy retaliates with a Jet Pistol, but the toy stands back up. Cavendish goes next with a sword attack, knocking its head off, but that too fails to defeat it as it reattaches its head. Leaving the group at a loss on how to defeat these things, Law grumbles that if he could get rid of his seastone cuffs, then he could easily defeat them.[83]

Rebecca Confronts Diamante

Rebecca is confronted by Diamante.

However, the fight is suddenly interrupted by Bartolomeo falling from the sky onto one of the soldiers followed by Robin floating down behind him. Gladius shows up shortly after, ready to fight. When Law asked about his cuff key, Robin states that Rebecca has it. Thus, Bartolomeo and she will hold off Gladius while Luffy's group heads on to Level 4. On said Level 4, Rebecca, Leo, and Kabu have made it. Rebecca sends the dwarves on ahead so that they may rescue their princess, assuring the two she will be alright. No sooner than they had left, someone suddenly shows up, revealing himself to be Diamante, much to Rebecca's horror.[83]

Back on Level 3, Bartolomeo uses his barriers to protect the group from Gladius and makes a staircase to allow Luffy, Law, and Kyros to go on ahead, although this leaves him unprotected as he cannot make more barriers. Cavendish stays behind to avenge his horse and help the others, aided by Robin who compliments Bartolomeo's dedication to Luffy. She states that whatever dire situation they are in, Luffy has always been their trump card. In Acacia, Sabo and Issho are still fighting. Sabo realizes that Issho is not being serious, which he admits as just wanting to keep up appearances. Issho unleashes his gravity powers horizontally, forcing Sabo to turn to fire and try to rush him. Issho warns him that he must be prepared for anything. At the Flower Fields, Rebecca is running from Diamante, not wanting to fight him.[84]

Diamante uses his flag powers to injure and knock her down. He prepares to shoot her with his equipped gun, which he also used to kill her mother. Rebecca screams out for Soldier-San to which Kyros suddenly arrives and wounds Diamante, proclaiming he will not let Diamante kill another of his family. Kyros apologizes to Rebecca for not doing more for her growing up and tells her she does not have to fight anymore. Luffy soon arrives afterward asking for Law's key. Rebecca hands it over and Law is finally freed of his seastone cuff. He quickly destroys the enemy toy soldier that was chasing them. Kyros states he is going to be busy with Diamante and asks if Luffy and Law can deal with Doflamingo to which they wholeheartedly agree.[84]

Luffy and Law head for the palace but not before Luffy tells Rebecca that he was glad she was okay and was also happy that he got to meet her father. Rebecca asks him if he can really beat Doflamingo. Luffy, in conjunction in telling her his real name, states he can since he'll be king of the pirates. Diamante attacks Law and Luffy, but Law uses his ROOM ability to transport the two away. The two arrive in the pool garden where Law tells Luffy teleporting uses up his stamina. Law is also still weakened from being shot by Doflamingo and having to operate on himself to get the bullets out. Unbeknownst to the two Supernovas, Sugar is in the room and starts to make her way to attack them.[85]

On the former plateau, Usopp fears for Luffy mentioning that he had forgotten about Robin when she was turned into a toy and refuses to let it happen to his captain. Despite the distance of the palace and unable to see his target, Usopp attempts to hit Sugar from afar. Kin'emon, Kanjuro, Tank, Dan Hack and Riku hold off the citizens to buy Usopp time while Viola uses her power to instruct him where Sugar is. At that point, Law and Luffy notice her approching them. As Usopp takes aim, he thinks to himself about not wanting to sail the seas without Luffy. Suddenly he notices Luffy, Law, and Sugar's aura. With this, he fires the star using some added gunpowder for propulsion to reach the plateau.[85]

The star manages to reach the plateau, fly through a window, into the room where the three are and turn into a puppet with the same face Usopp made when he ate the tainted grape (which he had Kanjuro draw for him earlier). Seeing this activates Sugar's trauma and she faints once more, saving Luffy and Law. However, the citizens manage to capture Usopp's group, but Viola confirms Usopp's success much to his relief. With Sugar out of the way, Luffy and Law reach the throne room where Doflamingo and Trebol await with a beaten Bellamy at Doflamingo's feet. Doflamingo mockingly asks what the two have come to him for to which Luffy and Law respond is to beat him.[85]

The Debt and Grudge of an Outcast: Law's Sorrowful Past

As Sugar falls unconscious once more, all of the toys that Robin's group was fighting turn back into humans, revealing that each soldier was a combination of eight of Doflamingo's henchmen. Gladius claims they were going to free them after the fight was over but in truth had of course forgotten about them. Meanwhile in the throne room, Luffy notices Bellamy and asks what had happened. Doflamingo reveals that Bellamy had challenged him and was beaten, mocking him for being nothing more than a simple thug despite trying to join his crew. Luffy, remembering the admiration Bellamy had shown for Doflamingo, tries to attack the Shichibukai, but Doflamingo uses Bellamy as a shield, resulting in Luffy hitting him in the face.[86]

Law tells Luffy not to let Doflamingo get to him as he likes to use his enemy's anger to his advantage. Doflamingo states he should be the one angry as Law and Luffy disrupted his plans and even killed two of his subordinates, and all of this reminds him of his depression 13 years ago. Law argues that if a certain incident in the past had not happened they wouldn't even be standing before him. Doflamingo retorts that if it hadn't happened, Law would have been the third Corazon by his side.[86]

Luffy Hits Doflamingo with Red Hawk

Luffy hits Doflamingo with Red Hawk.

Doflamingo eventually goes on the attack, making a string puppet and sending it at the two. Law combats it while Luffy decides to go after the real one. Doflamingo takes control of Bellamy and forces him to attack Luffy. Luffy refuses to harm him further which Doflamingo, again, mocks him and Law. Luffy has had enough and states he is going to fight Doflamingo. Law tries to dissuade him, stating it is not part of their secret plan. Luffy does not care and suddenly rushes to Law, targeting him with an attack. However, Law uses his powers to switch places with the real Doflamingo, allowing Luffy to hit him with his Red Hawk technique. Meanwhile, Law appears on the throne by Trebol and slices him into pieces. Law complains to Luffy he is the worst though Luffy just retorts they are part of the same "Worst Generation".[86]

On the streets of Dressrosa, Sabo is being scolded by Koala for fighting an admiral since it will attract attention to the Revolutionaries.[87]

Usopp and the others at the Plateau were then released by the citizens since they were confused by all the chaos that they acted irrationally. They begged their former King for help, but Riku told them to have faith that Luffy will defeat Doflamingo. Admiral Fujitora is also with them lending his faith in Luffy.[87]

Doflamingo then gets back up after taking a blow from Luffy, and Trebol has difficulty in reforming himself after being attacked by Law. Before Law can attack him again, Doflamingo stops his attack and brutally incapacitates Law. Luffy tries to fight, but Doflamingo overcomes Luffy's Haki and binds him in string, leaving him at the mercy of the controlled Bellamy. Doflamingo tells them that he hates people underestimating him and reveals his family's past, of how his father left the life of nobility and how his mother died of illness because of their fall from grace. Doflamingo hated his father and killed him hoping to return to the life of a World Noble but was turned down, swearing revenge against them.[87]

As the chaos continues around the island, the Marines are doing all they can do to quell it under the command of Maynard, who rallies his troops to help the citizens. Meanwhile back in the palace, Doflamingo sends Bellamy and his string copy to attack Luffy. Luffy manages to counter them but is knocked to a lower level of the building. While on the top level, Law and Doflamingo begin to square off. Confused about his earlier statement, Law asks how Doflamingo could use the CP-0 if he was a no longer a Celestial Dragon. The Heavenly Demon reveals that he knows of a "national treasure of Mariejois" that could shake up the world, and the World Nobles could not kill Doflamingo, they had no choice but to cooperate with him. He also revealed that he had the power of the Ope Ope no Mi and its ability to transplant personalities, he could have used the treasure to take control of the world. He also reveals that a skilled user could use the fruit to perform the "Eternal Youth Operation" on another person, though doing so would kill the user. Because of these abilities, Doflamingo never intended for Law to eat the fruit. He attacks Law stating that the Doflamingo Family was responsible for teaching Law the ways of combat, and calls Law ungrateful for turning against him. Law retorts while that may be so it was because of Corazon that he is able to fight him now.[88]

Donquixote Pirates Heart Officer: Corazon

Law then reminisces about his past after his attempt to intimidate Doflamingo with bombs strapped on him. Doflamingo was not impressed however and left Law with his two officers Diamante and Trebol. They question if what Law said about dying was true and Law confirms it as his deceased parents were doctors. The two state they do allow kids in their crew, but most ran away within two days with only two, Baby 5 and Buffalo, staying behind. A man arrives who falls for many of Baby 5 and Buffalo's pranks though he quickly smacks them for it. Diamante reveals that he is Corazon, Doflamingo's younger brother, who doesn't speak due to a traumatic incident in the past. Diamante also reveals that he dislikes children just as Corazon grabs Law and throws him out of the building onto a scrap pile. Law survives and vows to kill Corazon for the action.[88]

A week passes and Law eventually meets up with the rest of the Doflamingo Family (which by this point didn't have Vergo, Monet or Sugar) as they're eating. Doflamingo makes it clear that if Law is going to stay, he must abide by the rules of not hurting an executive under the penalty of death. Machvise notices something about Law's skin to which Jora points out he has the Amber Lead Syndrome which she claims is contagious. Doflamingo corrects her that it isn't and is just a poisoning. He then asks Law how he got out of Flevance since it was supposed to be quarantined which Law reveals was by hiding under dead bodies being moved out of the country. Law then states his intention of getting revenge on Corazon to which Baby 5 slaps and chastises him.[89]

The next day, while roaming the town and beating up people for money, Baby 5 asks about the White City, the hometown where Law came from. Gladius, Lao G and Senor Pink then explain it to her. White City is the nickname of the island Flevance, due to everything looking as white as snow. The kingdom found the source of the white nature, which is a mineral called Amber Lead, and they used to make all kinds of goods with and sold them all over the world, even to the World Government, which made the town wealthy. However a hundred years ago before then, the World Government realized the Amber Lead was poisonous when dug but they and the royal family of the kingdom had kept this secret from its people due to the fortune it brought. The poison affected the people so much that each generation born would live decreased lifespans until, at Law's current generation, they wouldn't even make it past childhood.[89]

By the time people realized this, it was too late and no doctor could cure it. Neighboring countries thought that the disease was contagious due to appearing on the people at the same time, and they quarantined the island. The royalty of the land abandoned the island to its fate, with the help of the World Government, and any diseased person who tried to find cures in other areas were killed on sight. Eventually, the people of Flevance tried to fight back leading into a war with the neighboring countries and countless deaths. From here a young Law reminisces on what happened during that point. A kind nun was rounding up children to help escape the island. Law couldn't come as his sister was in an advanced state of the disease and he didn't want to leave her. The nun promised she would take Law along on the next vessel. Law's parents meanwhile were desperately trying to get supplies, knowing the disease wasn't contagious but got no help from outside, while Law tried to keep his sister's spirits up. However tragedy soon struck, his parents were killed before his very eyes, shot point blank by people killing all those infected. His friends and the nun likewise were killed in cold blood and a hospital burned to the ground with his sister still inside. All Law could do was weep in despair as Flevance was destroyed around him.[89]

Law Stabs Rosinante

Law stabs Corazon from behind.

Back in the present time of Law's childhood, he finds Corazon and charges at him, angry that his friends and family had to die, but someone like Corazon can live. He claims that no one would care if he died and thus he stabs Corazon from behind. However, Buffalo had seen the deed and set off to report this to Doflamingo.[89]

As all this goes on, Doflamingo has a nightmare where his father, his brother and he were nailed to a wall of a burning building by a angry mob calling for their deaths. All who were wronged by the Celestial Dragons in some form or another and wanting revenge. He wakes up and suddenly receives a phone call. It's then were shown Doflamingo's past in full. 33 years ago, his father, Don Quixote Homing, announced that he was giving up his Celestial Dragon title much to the shock of his fellow World Nobles. They tried to talk him out of it, but when he didn't relent they branded him a traitor. The family was taken to a continent in the North Blue not associated with the World Government and given housing and some wealth to get them on their feet. However, while exploring the town, Doflamingo unwittingly revealed their Celestial Dragon heritage to the townspeople. A mob attack their household and burned it to the ground, forcing the family to go into hiding in a junkyard. Homing had tried to call the World Nobles for help to at least take his wife and sons back, but they refused. Doflamingo experienced hardship as he and Corazon were beaten by thugs, forced to eat out of the gutter, watching their mother die from sickness and finally, being found by the angry mob from before with Homing pleading that they at least spare his sons as Doflamingo angrily blamed his father for their pain.[90]

Back in the present day of the past, Law is brought before Doflamingo assuming he'll be punished for stabbing Corazon even though he bribed Buffalo to keep quiet of the attack. Upon seeing Corazon alive, he assumes he told Law about the attack. Much to his surprise though, Doflamingo announces he's letting Law into his crew seeing that he has what it takes to survive. When Law asked what good it will do when he'll be dead in three years, Doflamingo states he could find a Devil Fruit within that time that could save him to which he'll continue training him to be his right hand man. Later on Doflamingo sees the stab wound and asks what happened. Corazon writes on a paper that it was an "enemy" to Law's surprise that he was protecting him.[90]

Law Being Trained by Donquixote Pirates

The Donquixote Pirates begin to train Law.

The Doflamingo Pirates eventually moves their operations southwest of the Reverse Mountains. During their travels, they fights other pirates, looted and braved the element of the Grand Line. Law himself was trained in studies and combat by the crew as well. Two year eventually pass and Law's disease has progressed that he now has the white spots on him. While resting in town one day, Baby 5 and Buffalo ask about his full name. Law eventually does so, revealing his name as Trafalgar D Water Law. Corazon suddenly appears out of nowhere and takes Law somewhere private. Much to Law's shock, Corazon speaks for the first time and asks Law if what he says is true. He then tells Law to leave as he's the worst person to be near Doflamingo.[90]

Law questions why Corazon never told Law or the others about his ability to speak with Corazon states he never considered them his comrades knowing the true nature of his brother after hearing him wanting to kill everyone upon being tortured in the past. He also reveals he has a Devil Fruit that allows him to take away sound which he uses to create a sound barrier around Law and him so they can talk in private. And that he is actually the "Second Corazon" with a man named Vergo being the first, though he is away on a special mission. He then goes on to explain that people with "D" in their names are considered "enemies of God" which Corazon figures to be enemies of the Celestial Dragons. He tries to get Law to leave Doflamingo's side, but Law refuses since he's going to die anyway. He runs back to Doflamingo's ship intent on telling Doflamingo everything. But when Corazon reaches the ship, he finds that Law held his tongue as repayment for Corazon not telling Doflamingo about being stabbed. The Family come under attack from Marines, but during the fighting Corazon and Law leave the ship to Doflamingo's bewilderment. Though it is revealed that Corazon had actually absconded with Law.[91]

As they sail off, with Law angrily yelling at Corazon for the abduction, Corazon receives a call from Sengoku and reveals himself as a commander in the Marines and a spy for them within the Doflamingo Family; he also reveals his real name - Rosinante. He tells Sengoku he's leaving his post for a bit to do something which Sengoku allows. As he hangs up, Sengoku greets the newest recruit within the Marines, Vergo. Meanwhile Rosinante takes Law to several hospitals with the hope someone has found a cure for the Amber Lead Disease by now. However not only is there none, but the rumors of it being contagious are still prevalent as doctors react in horror at Law's condition and try to call the World Government on them. Rosinante would beat up the offender and try another one despite Law's objections and grief at being treated like a monster.[91]

Six months pass and the two still have had no luck. While resting one night and thinking Law's asleep, Rosinante confesses that he understands Law's pain and took pity on him, not even mad that he had stabbed him. However, Law was indeed awake and likewise cried, finally finding someone that understood him. The next day Law wakes up Rosinante, shocking him that he called him Cora-san. After the shock wears off, Law tells him they have a phone call who turns out to be Doflamingo on the other end.[91]

After confirming the two are alright, Doflamingo informs the two he found that someone had the Ope Ope No Mi and was willing to sell it. He plans to take the fruit and have Rosinate eat it as he feels he trustworthy. However after hanging up, Doflamingo converses with his top officers, noticing that the Marines have stop hounding them ever since Rosinate left. Diamante suggests it might be coincidence which Doflamingo hopes is indeed the case as he doesn't want to suspect his own brother. Back with Rosinante and Law, the former tells the latter he's found a cure for him and that he plans on having Law eat it since, having already eaten a Devil Fruit, he can't consume two. He likewise knows that if Law and he go back to Doflamingo he'll be killed since he suspects Doflamingo knows about his treachery, thus plans to go into hiding once all  is said and done. Rosinante calls up Sengoku and informs him of what Doflamingo told him, much to Sengoku's surprise as the information was suppose to be confidential. Regardless, they plan to use Rosinante's rendezvous with Doflamingo to capture the family all at once. However just as Rosinante hangs up on the call, Law falls over from his worsening sickness to Rosinante's worry. Begging him to hang on for three weeks.[92]

Rosinante sails to where the pirates who hold the fruit are stationed, but en route is beset by a typhoon. As they brave the elements, Law asks if Rosinante is a Marine having hated the World Government and by extension them for making the people of Flevance scapegoats and killing his family. Rosinante claims he isn't to put Law at ease, though warns what they are about to do will make them the enemies of both Doflamingo, the Marines and the World Government. Eventually the two make it to Minion Island, three days before the exchange. Rosinante is informed about the crew who call led by a pirate named Diez Barrels who have the fruit. Likewise two of the Marine battleships are stationed on the island ready to intercept Doflamingo and is ordered to not let him take the fruit at all costs.[92]

As Diez Barrels' crew party and plan what to do with the money that will be gained from selling the fruit. Rosinante sneaks in, using his devil fruit powers to silently attack the compound. He cuts the lights, beats up the Barrel's captain, grabs the fruit and manages to make an escape. Just as he seems to have gotten away however, he slips down a hill right in front of the some Diez Barrels patrol who point their guns at him. However all Rosinante can think of is Law and for him to hold on for a little longer.[92]

Rosinante Force Feeds Law the Ope Ope no Mi

Rosinante force-feeding Law the Ope Ope no Mi.

Meanwhile Tsuru and her squad are waiting for Doflamingo's crew to arrive. The second Marine ship spot the fire from the island and reports to them with Tsuru ordering them to quickly scout the area. Rosinante manages to elude the patrol and make it back to Law, quickly having him eat the Ope Ope no Mi to cure him. Rosinante falls over, revealing that he was shot and mortally wounded in trying to escape. Law, starting to recover thanks to the fruit, begs him to stay with him. Rosinante gives Law a tube and tells him to take it to the Marine ship stationed nearby and that they will know what to do. Law does so and spots some Marines. He rushes to a lone one, gives the Marine the tube, and begs him to help Rosinante. The Marine goes to do so, but when Rosinante spots him, he realizes to his horror that it is Vergo.[93]

Vergo quickly puts two and two together that the two are Law and Rosinante, that Rosinante is indeed the mole within the family and the tube carried information that would've finished them. Vergo quickly assaults the pair and reports to Doflamingo who has arrived on the island. As Vergo is busy talking to him, Rosinante takes Law and flees. In response to this, Doflamingo unleashes his Birdcage technique over the island, ensuring that the two won't escape. Knowing that he will be killed soon, Rosinante attempts to save Law. Rosinante smiles all the while as he wants it to be the last memory Law has of him.[93]

A flashback shows the moment when a ten year old Doflamingo killed his father right in front of Rosinante. Homing's last words were an apology to both of them for having him as a father just before he is shot in the back of the head by Doflamingo. Back on Minion Island, with the Birdcage in place, the Barrels Pirates are forced to attack one another due to the controlling strings. Only a crewmate name Dory managed to get outside of the Birdcage's range and, finding there's nothing he can do, runs for it. At Diez Barrels' hideout, Doflamingo confronts the leader and, finding he doesn't have the Ope Ope Fruit, shoots him point blank. The rest of the Doflamingo Family raid their treasure until Gladus spots Rosinante running around. The family gives chase and corner him near the treasure chests, beating him to near death for his treachery. Unaware that Law was hidden in one of the chest, aided by Rosinante's Devil Fruit power to keep him quiet, although Law hears the whole confrontation outside.[94]

Doflamingo Kills Rosinante

Doflamingo kills Rosinante.

Doflamingo soon arrives and Rosinante points his gun at his brother. Rosinante admits to the crew, as well as the hiding Law, that he's a Marine. Doflamingo demands to know where the fruit and Law are. Rosinante reveals that Law ate it and lies that Law is now on a Marine ship. Baby 5 and Buffalo, scouting the area from the air and catching a transmission from a Marine ship, confirm it as the report states they picked up a boy. Dofalmingo then dispels the birdcage and orders his crew to ready the ship as they're going after Law. Rosinante amazed by the coincidence asks Doflamingo what he plans to do with Law to which his brother reveals that he intends to reeducate Law in how important it is for him to die for him in order have him do the immortality surgery. Unbeknownst to Doflamingo, Law heard this cruel and heartless statement as he remains hidden. Doflamingo then reprimands his brother for the extra work he's given him and asks why must he kill a blood relative for the second time in his life. Rosinante counters that Law now knows his true nature and won't listen to him, demanding that Doflamingo give up on Law since he's free from his sickness and Doflamingo's madness. Doflamingo responds by shooting Rosinante in the chest twice then planning to go after the Marine ship to get Law back. As they're carrying the treasure back to the ship, they spots Tsuru's battleship, and not wanting to confront Tsuru, leaves the treasures. Rosinante struggles to stay alive long enough to keep Law hidden. When the Marines appears, he finally dies, though his power fades the cannons from the ship drown out Law's crying who makes his escape with the family unaware of his presence.[94]

Back in the present time, the battles continue around the island with the colosseum Contestants having trouble against the Doflamingo Family. Law continues to fight Doflamingo with Rosinante's death still fresh on his mind. He asks Doflamingo what he thinks of Monkey D. Luffy. Doflamingo dismisses him thinking him being on the island by fate ridiculous. However, when Law reveals he too has the initial "D" in his name, Doflamingo's suddenly becomes surprised at this revelation. On the former king's plateau, Viola uses her power to watch over the battles around the island and relays what is happening to everyone on the hill. Viola informs Ussop on the Doflamingo Family's whereabouts when he asks how many remain .[95]

Franky has dealt a major blow in his battle with Senor Pink who willingly took it to protect a kitten. Zoro and Pica's battle is still ongoing with no clear advantage from either side. Bartolomeo protects Robin to allow her to run on ahead while Cavendish warns Gladius that he's getting sleepy and to prepare himself and Kyros has manages to wound Diamante who uses his flag ability on the ground for an attack. Inside the, palace, the dwarves try to make their way to Mansherry. While at the foot of it, Sabo has stopped his fight with Issho to help the citizens, hoping they can find refuge in the madness. Viola states what everyone is thinking, if Doflamingo isn't stopped, there's no future for anyone on Dressrosa.[95]

Back at the palace, Doflamingo becomes more wild in his attacks as he states that he doesn't think anything of the name "D" other then a superstition from his homeland. However, Trebol notices that he's getting too close within Law's range and yells out a warning. But it's too late Law manages to pierce Doflamingo's midsection with his sword, vowing that since Rosinante was too gentle and couldn't pull the trigger that day, then he'll pull the "trigger" for him instead.[95]

Dismantling the Family: The Decisive Conflict Against the Donquixote Pirates!

Law Loses an Arm

Law after having his arm severed by Doflamingo.

Law tries to follow up on the attack but Dolflamingo recovers and grabs him, mocking Law for thinking he can take him and not trying to use a much stronger force such as Kaido to take him out and even proclaiming that, despite Rosinante's plans, he had always planned to take over Dressrosa. Law states he won't give up regardless so Doflamingo uses his power to sever Law's right arm and knocks him to the ground. Tired of his rebellion, Doflamingo prepares to shoot Law once again. Before he can pull the trigger, something comes busting up from the lower floor: the string clone, now ripped to pieces. Luffy, freed from the string bind, demands Doflamingo release Bellamy. Doflamingo obliges and does so, allowing Bellamy to fall to the ground. Luffy tries to aid him, but Bellamy, remembering trying to join Doflamingo's crew in the past, refuses to accept his help citing that while he knows Doflamingo's true nature it was his wish to follow him. He then does his Spring Hopper move around the room, demanding that Luffy fight him.[96]

File:Gungnir.png

Hajrudin uses "Gungnir" to defeat Machvise.

Luffy yells for Bellamy to stop as what he's doing is pointless. But Bellamy remains steadfast and to show he's serious launches toward Luffy, hitting him with a Haki infused attack. As this goes on, Zoro is knocked off the Pica statue onto the second level where the palace is. Orlumbus helps Zoro out by knocking away the Doflamingo Family subordinates to allow him to go on ahead. Pica continues to chase after him trying to mock Zoro all the while, only to get angered when Zoro mocks his voice angering him into attacking everything in his vicinity. Dellinger himself is almost hit which irritates him long enough for Ideo to land a hit on him. Sai's fight with Baby 5 is brought to a halt by her nonsense of thinking his threats against her were romantic proposals. Meanwhile Machvise has managed to knock down Hajrudin and targets Zoro next. However the Elbaf giant manages to recover thinking to himself that if he wants to repay his debts to the Straw Hats and be the next King of the Giants he needs to give it his all. Machvise notices him and decides to go after him again instead of Zoro, changing his Ton-Ton Power from 1,000 tons to that of 10,000 tons. Hajrudin counters with a punch that, in spite of his grievous injuries, is strong enough to send Machvise flying into the string birdcage, defeating him. As the giant falls unconscious from his wounds, Zoro compliments him and assures when he wakes up the cage will be gone.[97]

File:Sai Defeats Lao G.png

Sai defeats Lao G.

Pica continues his attack against Zoro who keeps dodging him. Elizabello steps in and offers to help him out with his King's Punch but Zoro declines telling him to save it for later. As Pica attacks once more, Zoro realizes he's after something. Meanwhile, Lao G and Chinjao battle with former having the upper hand. The fight is suddenly halted when Chinjao complains to Sai of supposedly trying to "marry" Baby 5. Sai denies it and when Baby 5 asks what she can do to make him happy, he jokingly tells her to die. Much to his shock however, she actually nearly does by turning her arm into a pistol and aiming at her head. As Sai tries to talk her out of it, Baby 5 reminisces about her past when her mother, poverty stricken and traveling with a likewise group, abandoned her for being of no use to them which instilled her the need to be useful.

Chinjao grows angry at Sai trying to stop her and attack with his Drill Nail only for Sai to counter and bend his head with a haki infused kick. He then slaps Baby 5 for trying to commit suicide before tending to his grandfather. However rather then be upset over his now bent head, Chinjao actually congratulates him as his kick has now surpasses Chinjao's power. He hands over the Happo Navy to him stating he's growing to old to continue leading it and is about to tell him how proud he is when Lao G suddenly attacks and knocks him out, revealing a technique that allows him to grow his muscles from his youth. Lao G proclaims the youth of the island as well as Baby 5 to be property of the Doflamingo Family and charges Sai. Baby 5 breaks down at being called convenient but Sai takes Lao G head on, vowing if he wins he'll make Baby 5 his wife. He hits Lao G with his newly christen Drill Nail Kick and knocks Lao G into and through the ground. With that, both Lao G and Baby 5 are defeated.[98]

Back on Flower Field, Diamante uses his power on the flowers to try and throw off Kyros's balance, remembering he was the toy soldier that cried over Scarlett's body and gleefully mocking her death. Kyros fights him but sees he keeps targeting Rebecca. Rebecca requests to join in on the fight but Kyros refuses as he wishes to atone for Scarlett's death and having to teach Rebecca about fighting in the first place. On the second floor, Zoro notices Sai's power and makes a note to remind himself of the Happo Navy. Sai meanwhile manages to revive Chinjao when Baby 5 thinks they'll have to have a funeral along with their wedding. Meanwhile on the third level. Gladius unleashes a major attack that explodes the ground around him hoping to kill Cavendish though this likewise hits his troops as well. Cavendish manages to avoid it thanks to Bartolomeo's barrier (though not after the two argue about Bartolomeo letting Cavendish in before the attack hit). Cavendish continues the attack while Robin heads to the fourth level, worried about Rebecca. Gladius targets her but his attacked is blocked by Bartolomeo. When Robin thanks him for the save, Bartolomeo becomes ecstatic and unleashes a major attack that takes out a majority of the Dolflamingo forces.

Hakuba Slashes Dellinger

Hakuba defeats Dellinger.

Seeing he might be in trouble, Gladius calls for Dellinger to help him. Dellinger continues his fight against Ideo who is mortally wounded but does his best to buy as much time Luffy needs to beat Dolflamingo. However he's ultimately defeated when Dellinger taps into his fishman power and bites him on the neck. Dellinger proceeds to the third level where Gladius tells him to stay back as he's fighting a dangerous enemy. Dellinger, cocky from his recent victory, doesn't listen and is quickly slashed by Cavendish who has turned into Hakuba. Bartolomeo likewise notices this change from within his barrier as well.[99]

While Bartolomeo recalls the events that took place during D Block, and realizes it was all Cavendish work, he tries to figure out what kind of character is behind Cavendish new appearance. During this time, Hakuba takes the chance and tries to attack Bartolomeo, but his attack doesn’t cross Bartolomeo’s barrier. Afterwards, he turns his attention to Robin — who’s still climbing up the hill to the Flower Field — and charges. However, using her ability, Robin is able to stop him in his tracks, and immobilizes him completely. Then, Cavendish’s personality emerges, and a battle of personalities between him and Hakuba starts, to decide who will remain in control of the body.[100]

Gladius takes the change to inflate the hill wall, so he can finish off all his enemies at once. Bartolomeo attacks him in order to stop the bursting attack, but he is hit by one of Gladius hairs, which are revealed to be poisonous needles. Then Gladius inflates himself, telling Bartolomeo that any attack that might fall on him, will make him explode, thus shooting a multitude of needles towards Robin and Cavendish. Bartolomeo seeks for Cavendish’s help, but Hakuba is the one who gives a response. Out of options, Bartolomeo decides to attack Gladius, while covering both of them with a barrier; he aims for Gladius throat, causing him to burst. The explosion wounds Bartolomeo and rips all his upper clothes. Shortly after, Gladius is seen standing, telling Bartolomeo that he missed his throat, and hit his shoulder instead.[100]

With Gladius still conscious, the hill wall is about to explode; at that moment, Cavendish tells Robin that he still has control over half of his body, and they can avoid the explosion by using Hakuba’s speed. Facing a crucial moment, Robin chooses to trust him, and Cavendish carries them both to the 4th level, while stopping one of his Hakuba controlled limbs from hurting Robin. After reaching the 4th level, Cavendish falls asleep.[100]

Bartolomeo Defeats Gladius

Bartolomeo defeats Gladius with Bari Bari no Pistol.

Down at the third level, Gladius is seen in disbelief after witnessing Cavendish stunt to avoid his explosion. Behind him, Bartolomeo gets up, and, making a silent promise to Luffy about getting stronger, he launches himself against Gladius and finishes him off with a barrier coated punch. Afterwards, he drops to the floor, mentioning that he’ll never again want to be on the same team with anyone as messed up as Cavendish.[100]

Up in the Flower Field, Kyros is struggling to keep standing, and Diamante takes the chance to strike at Rebecca. Robin intervenes and parries the attack, stating that Rebecca did well on bringing the keys, and that she will handle the rest.[100]

Robin chastises Diamante for his dirty fighting but he just mocks her, claiming it's meant to be an execution. However Robin tell Kyros she'll keep Rebecca safe, leaving him free and clear to battle Diamante without worry. Meanwhile some of Doflamingo's soilders move Gladius body away from the battlefield to Bartolomeo's confusion. The dwarves call Viola about Manshelly's status to which Viola calls Leo as Kabu and he are making their way to the chapel. However Viola warns that Jora is there as well demanding Mashelly use her power to revive their fallen forces including the executives. Mashelly refuses to do so having found out that the Donquixote Pirates had been lying to her the entire time. Jora grabs and squeezes her, threatening her tribe if she refuses. As she does, Mashelly cries, her tears landing on one of the grunts who wounds heal and completely revive him. Viola, seeing this with her power, informs Leo about this and reveals to Usopp and the others that Mashelly ate the Chiyu Chiyu no Mi, allowing her tears to heal anything they touch which is how Sugar was revived after her first defeat. Usopp realizes in horror that means they could revive their officers while everyone is battle weary and wounded. [101]

File:Leo Defeats Jora.png

Leo defeats Jora.

Leo reaches the room just as Jora's about to drop the tears over the officers. However Kabu rushes in and manages to knock away the defeated officers bodies before the tears hit them. Leo then uses his stitching powers to tie the bodies of the officers together around Jora causing them to slam into her and knock her out while also catching Mashelly in the process. With that the operation to save the princess is accomplished.

Leo and Kabu proceed to take the princess out of the castle, as they Jora remains conscious long enough to mention they need the power of the Chiyu Chiyu no Mi for Doflamingo's plans before she ultimately passes out. Meanwhile at the SMILE Factory Franky and Senor Pink continue to battle. However the begin to reach their limits and decide to take the next two attacks from each other to finally decide things. Pink grabs Franky and swims him up a tower, proceeding to suplex him from the air. As he does he mentions he wishes he could keep going so he can see his wife and son to Franky's confusion. Franky manages to survive the attack however and hits Pink with rapid punches. [102]

File:Franky Pummels Senor Pink.png

Franky defeats Senor Pink.

As he takes the attack, Pink reminisces about his past. He had met a girl named Lucianne one day while out in the rain and the two hit it off, though during a date she mentioned she didn't like pirates so Pink lied, saying that he was a banker. Eventually the two got married and had a son Pink named Gimlet. Time passed and Pink had managed to keep his secret life from his family. However one day, after coming home from a two week job, Pink had found out Gimlet had died from a high fever and Lucianne found out his lie when she called the bank. She rejected him and ran out into a storm where she was caught in a land slide. They managed to dig her out, but she was left in a vegetative state and likely didn't have long to live. Pink, remorseful for lying to her, put on his son's bib as in a desperate attempt to get her to response. Surprisingly she did smile a little at that, and so Pink changed his clothes with each visit despite mockings from others and his fellow officers as a result. He didn't care as it was worth it to see her smile.[102]

Back in the present, Pink reaches his limit and is defeated from Franky's attack. Though the victor, Franky compliments him and asks, if they meet again, that he tell him about Lucianne over a drink.[102]

With the battle over Senor Pink won, Franky leads the dwarves to the factory and orders them to destroy it. As they charge forward, Franky passes out from his injuries, wishing Luffy good luck. Back on Flower Field, Diamante continues to mock Kyros, noting that he's injured and fatigued and claiming himself as the new hero of the coliseum. Kyros states he doesn't care and vows he'll kill Diamante. Diamante uses his flag powers to create makeshift cannons that fire out mini spikes into into the air. Robin uses her power to make a tree that shields Rebecca and her while Kyros uses his swordplay to block the projectiles. Seeing this, Diamante shoots Kyros in his leg causing him to stumble and the spikes to injure him further.

File:Kyros Defeats Diamante.png

Kyros defeats Diamante.

Angered at this cowardly display, Rebecca starts to join in on the fight. However Robin holds her back until Kyros stands up, much to Diamante shock. Kyros explains that he doesn't wish for Rebecca to fight as she honored her mother's wishes not to hurt anyone, even as she put her life on the line in the coliseum and was mocked by both the audience and fellow gladiators. Thus Kyros doesn't want her hands sullied from killing anyone. Even with the spike onslaught still going, Kyros counters fiercer then ever, letting looses his pent-up anger over the ten years he spent as a toy by seeing his wife die before his eyes and his country being taken over. Diamante is left utterly confused how Kyros is still attacking him despite his injuries. Eventually the rain of spikes stops and the two swordsmen decide to finish things. Kyros rushes Diamante who unleashes a powerful sword slash at him. The two blades collide, with Kyros ultimately emerging as the victor after his sword breaks Diamante's sword and slashes him as well. Thus defeating the executive officer and allowing Kyros to avenge Scarlett.[103]

As Viola, Dold and Tank recall how they learned of Scarlett's death, Kyros's attack slashes Diamante and he lands head first into Scarlett's grave knocking him out. With Diamante's defeat, Rebecca rushes to her father while Robin is left injured from protecting Rebecca from the spike balls. Rebecca and Kyros sit in front of Scarlett's grave paying their respects. Viola relays Diamante's defeat to the others proclaiming that only Bellamy, Trebol, Pica, and Doflamingo are all that's left. Dold decides to go down to help the citizens with Tank and the other citizens who follow. Fujitora has also left to assist the Marines to move the citizens to a safer location.[104]

Pica then shows up at the Flower Field making spikes erupt while mocking Diamante for his loss. Pica then asks Kyros and Rebecca what exactly King Riku is to them. Kyros explains that he is family as well as his savior when he was a monster and that the country is hoping for the day King Riku takes up his throne again. With this new information, Pica disappears. When Zoro continues to try and find Pica to fight directly, he notices that Pica is attacking all those who are too injured to fight. Disgusted at this, Zoro continues to try and chase after the chaos Pica is causing while targeting Baby 5 for her betrayal but Sai pushes her out of the way from his attack. After leaving to attack Zoro again, Pica reveals King Riku is still on the plateau and goes back to his giant stone self again and marches forward leaving Zoro behind. Zoro, now realizing what Pica's plan was, is attempting to get to the stone Pica before he makes it to the plateau. With this Zoro realizes his options at hand and comes up with a plan to fly in the sky and cut the real Pica down.[105]

As Pica readies to attack the plateau, all the citizens on it flee with Riku ordering Tank and Violet to escape while he faces down the rock giant. King Elizabello starts to attack with his King Punch but Zoro stops him stating even if he did, Pica would just reform himself. He tells Elizabello to give him two minutes as he rushes onward. He calls for Orlumbus and request he do his bowling move one more time, this time with Zoro as the "ball". As Orlumbus winds up, Pica mocks Riku on his pacifist ways but Riku counters that, while he did let the country fall into pirate hands, he would never become a murderer just to keep the throne. Pica prepares to crush both Ussop and him. Just as his hand is about to come down, he's suddenly sliced in half as Zoro had been thrown at him by Orlumbus to reach him.

Zoro Defeats Pica

Roronoa Zoro defeats Pica.

As the structure falls, Zoro keeps cutting while looking for Pica within the rocks, eventually finding him. Pica covers himself in Busoshoku Haki and leaps at him, intending on smashing Zoro into the ground. However, Zoro's Haki proves stronger and he lands the final blow, defeating Pica. Elizabello uses his punch to keep the rocks from destroying the plateau much to his chagrin, but Zoro compliments him nonetheless.[106]

Upon viewing Pica's defeat at the hands of Zoro, civilians and fighters all around the kingdom reacts to Zoro's victory over Pica. Issho inquires on whether there are any wounded civilians, but there are none, thanks to Issho keeping the rocks afloat for everyone to evacuate the plateau in time. Meanwhile, the dwarves destroys the SMILE Factory, declaring that they will never be enslaved again and in the Sunflower Field, Leo, Kabu, and Mansherry meet up with Kyros, Rebecca and Robin. Upon seeing Kyros's wounds, Mansherry offers to heal them, but Kyros turns it down, saying that there are other people who needs healing more than him. Koala has infiltrated the palace, and contacts Sabo, who is helping prisoners escaping the Colosseum, and asks for help, saying that Luffy is in danger, at which Sabo prepares to head to the palace.[107]

Elsewhere, Kin'emon and Usopp praise Zoro on his impressive victory over Pica, but Zoro tells them to save it for later, as Doflamingo is still standing. Viola notifies the group that there is only two enemies left, Doflamingo and Trebol, revealing that Bellamy has just been defeated by Luffy.[108]

Game Over: The Final Battle Against Doflamingo

File:Luffy Defeats Bellamy Dressrosa.png

Luffy defeats Bellamy in one blow again.

In the palace, Luffy stands over a fallen Bellamy, recalling the end of their fight. He pleaded with Bellamy to stop fighting, but Bellamy continued, saying as long as he is acknowledged by Doflamingo, then he won't care if he dies. Bellamy then told Luffy to stand and die, if he won't fight, but Luffy stood his ground and delivered a haki infused punch to Bellamy, defeating him. Bellamy realized at last that he has been following the wrong man, and silently offered Luffy his thanks for calling him his friend.[108]

Luffy then shouted out Doflamingo's name in rage. Upon hearing this, Doflamingo gleefully said to Law that he hopes that Luffy comes up quickly, so that he can see Law's corpse.[108]

Law Defeated By Doflamingo and Trebol

Law defeated by Doflamingo and Trebol.

During this time, Doflamingo and Trebol continued to attack Law, forcing him onto the edge of the palace. Doflamingo mocked the worthlessness of Law's campaign against him, and offered to make Law's death meaningful by having Law perform the Perennial Youth Operation on him, and offered to give Law whatever he wanted in exchange. However, Law retorted that Doflamingo's life was the one wasted, as the Straw Hats would leave miracles in their wake, and gives Doflamingo the middle finger. Doflamingo then shot Law in a fit of rage, saying the Heart legacy started by his brother Corazon would end.[109]

On the King's Plateau, Tank Lepanto and the horde of citizens decided to climb down Kanjuro's net and help Riku give aid to the other citizens in peril. Luffy breaks through the palace ceiling and attacked Doflamingo with a Haki-imbued Gear Third punch, but Doflamingo easily blocked it using Spider's Web. Luffy leaped over Doflamingo's web and barraged him with Hawk Gatling, but Doflamingo countered them using Break White to trap Luffy, but manages to avoid the attack. He stepped in a puddle of blood and saw Law on the ground. Doflamingo told Luffy that Law is dead, as the citizens of Dressrosa realized that the Birdcage was shrinking. Doflamingo mocked Law's last words and stated that it was time for the game to end. Luffy prepares to fight, but hears a faint voice.[109]

Meanwhile the citizens notice that the Birdcage is indeed shrinking and destroying everything it touches. They begin evacuating people to the center of the kingdom though most know that the only way they're be saved if Luffy beats Doflamingo. Doflamingo himself tells Luffy a crucial piece of information, stating he only has an hour before his Birdcage kills everyone while also revealing that he could always make another kingdom. Luffy starts to rush him but just as he's about to attack, he's suddenly replaced by Law much to Doflamingo's surprise. Law hits him with Gamma Knife, severely wounding the Warlord. Trebol questions how Law could even do ROOM in his condition to which Law reveals he had always had it activated around the whole palace despite knowing it was harmful to his health. When Doflamingo shot at him earlier, Law switched himself with one of Doflamingo's henchmen who took the bullets for him. When Luffy arrived and started to attack, he revealed he was still alive and shared his plan to gain an opening.[110]

Despite being critically injured, Doflamingo grabs Law's face and tries to attack him, but Luffy hits him with a Jet Stamp, knocking him back from Law. Luffy tries to press the attack but Law states he wants to finish Doflamingo off himself. He creates a ROOM over Doflamingo and uses Gamma Knife to rupture Doflamingo's organs so he's beyond saving. Trebol tries to attack but Luffy kicks him aside. Law reminds Doflamingo of Rosinante and of their final encounter together, stating that he knew his own brother wouldn't kill him. Doflamingo admits it and even states that his brother was nothing but a burden to him. Law hits him with a Counter Shock, condemning Doflamingo as a monster before collapsing from exhaustion. [110]

Unfortunately Doflamingo rises much to Luffy and Law's shock, revealing that he can uses his strings to mend his organs. He congratulates Law on his "suicide attack" and prepares to kill him once and for all. Only for Luffy to prevent him from stepping on him. As Law cries in his failure to finally kill his most hated enemy, Luffy and Doflamingo stare each other down.[110]

Doflamingo continues to try to kill Law, but Luffy once more stops him resulting in a clash of Haoshoku Haki much to Trebol's surprise that Luffy has it too. As they fight, Trebol remembers back to his first encounter with Doflamingo and finding out he had the potential to use Haki, offering Doflamingo both a pistol and the Ito Ito no Mi. Back in the present Trebol mocks Luffy stating that he was bred from birth to be a "demon". Luffy and Doflamingo trade blows with their Haki and powers, both evenly matched. However Doflamingo manages to knock Luffy to the edge of the palace wall. However rather then falling off, he's caught by Trebol's sticky powers.[111]

Trebol holds Luffy down to give Doflamingo time to kill Law. Luffy tries to break free but much to his confusion, his attacks pass right through Trebol's body, which should be impossible if Busoshoku Haki is used on a Logia user but Trebol informs that he is not a logia. Doflamingo once more prepares to kill Law but Law continues to mock the two remaining Donquixote Pirates, calling Trebol a fool. Trebol takes offense to this and asks Doflamingo if he can kill him himself. He explains to Law that thirty years ago Trebol, along with Pica, Diamante and Vergo found Doflamingo and raised him as family, killing anyone that got in his way in the hope he'll be the Pirate King.[111]

Law Defeats Trebol

Law wounds Trebol with "Sterben".

Law counters that Trebol's the only one who thinks that when really it was Doflamingo himself who was using the family for his own ends. Doflamingo realizes that Law is baiting Trebol into coming closer so he can use ROOM. Trebol figures in his weaken state that Law can't do anything. But is proven wrong when Law controls his severed arm, still holding his sword, to use Sterben on Trebol. It's then Luffy notices that Trebol was harmed in the attack. For some odd reason, the dwarves around the island sense this "uneasiness" all of a sudden.[111]

Back at the palace, Luffy realizes why his earlier attacks didn't work as Trebol's "coat" was actually his sticky power covering his body. Trebol's true body is nothing more then a feeble old man, now gravely wounded thanks to Law's attack. Angered at being exposed, Trebol uses his lighter to blow himself up in hopes of taking Law with him.[111]

Robin's group look on fearful as the top of the palace explodes. Leo suggests going to help Luffy, but Kyros and Robin object knowing how dangerous Doflamingo is. However they spot Luffy jumping into the air carrying Law. When he sees the group, he throws Law down to them so he can be given first-aid. However Doflamingo continues to try to go after Law and likewise attacks the group despite Luffy trying to divert his attack. Luckily Cavendish awakens and save the group. Luffy yells for Cavendish to get everyone away from the area, who in turn yells for Bartolomeo on the lower level to make a staircase for them.[112]

Luffy and Doflamingo continue to clash as the the latter reminisces about hearing Crocodile's defeat, learning of Luffy's existence, and seeing his actions at Marineford, surprised Luffy was able to survive up to the current point. Luffy finds himself at a major disadvantage as his attacks seemingly don't affect Doflamingo and he gets knocked around the remains of the palace. As the battle goes on, Law awakens and requests that he be left there, explaining that he's been at war with Doflamingo for thirteen years and wishes to see him defeated. However he also feels responsible for dragging Luffy into his fight and states if Luffy fails, he wishes to die with him despite Robin reminding him Luffy wanted to get involve when he didn't have to. Seeing his resolve, Cavendish decides to stay with Law, telling the others go ahead.[112]

Luffy tries his Grizzly Magnum attack on Doflamingo but it's dodged and Doflamingo once more knocks him back, mocking Luffy all the while about the one hour time limit and how everyone's deaths will be on his hands. Adding if Luffy hadn't came to the island it would've been peaceful. When Luffy protests about his tyrannical ways, Doflamingo states there's no saving the unfortunate and that Luffy has just been a thorn in his side. Luffy counters that he's wrong and Doflamingo is the thorn in his side, causing pain to people he cares about. Vowing to beat Doflamingo and his birdcage, he goes on to activate a new technique: Gear Fourth.[112]

Meanwhile, the citizens of the island continue to run as the Birdcage closes in, with many beginning to realizes that what the cage doesn't cut it drags along as it shrinks adding in the threat of being crushed. As the Coliseum Gladiators help move those that have been defeated. Those on the former King's Plateau begin to move off it as Viola surmises the cage is becoming too small and will likely cut up the plateau in the process. Zoro has Kine'mon and Kanjuro follow him, stating they're gonna try and halt the Birdcage.[113]

File:Gear Fourth Infobox.png

Luffy activates Gear Fourth: Boundman

On Flower Field, Leo and Manselly managed to stitch and heal Law's arm the best they could. Cavendish notes that if Luffy manages to beat Doflamingo it'll cause an effect throughout the entire seas. Law is well aware of this, stating that's what they were counting on. Back to the palace, Luffy activates Gear Fourth by blowing into his arm and infusing it with Busoshoku Haki. Making him grow into a large figure with Haki on his arms and legs and bouncing up and down like a rubber ball, to which Luffy dubs the form "Bound Man". Doflamingo finds the form ridiculous and figures Luffy just made himself bigger. However he's proven wrong when Luffy attacks him, pulling back his right arm like a cannon and punching Doflamingo. The impact sending the Shichibukai flying from the palace, through a few building and into the market district to his bewilderment. As Doflamingo recovers, Luffy chases after him, showcasing that he can use the form to achieve flight. What's more, he still retains his speed and zips to Doflamingo in an instant, catching him with a drop kick to the face and sending Doflamingo flying toward the former plateau.[113]

Getting annoyed, Doflamingo goes back on the offensive, dodging one of Luffy's attacks and managing to get a kick in toward his stomach. However to his surprise, the attack just bounces right off even though Doflamingo and Luffy are both using Bosushoku Haki, Luffy's body is still made of rubber. Luffy knocks him away then uses his "Culverin" attack to track Doflamingo and land yet another hit to his face.[113]

Doflamingo falls to into the city after getting hit by the attack as the citizen watch in awe that their former king is actually having trouble and cheer for Luffy. On the palace, Law and Cavendish comment on the transformation though Law notices that Luffy is overdoing his Haki. In the lower section of the building Burgass is likewise seeing this and debates to go over to where Luffy and Doflamingo are with Koala wondering what he's after. On the former king's plateau, Riku ask Viola if Doflamingo is the last of the Doflamingo Piraes left which she confirm. While at the SMILE factory, the dwarves have done all the damage they could and quickly flee the building with Franky. Franky states the string likely won't cut the seastone the building is made of but see that the building is starting to tilt. Its then the group spot Zoro's group who tells them their plan of trying to stall the birdcage. Franky then hits upon an idea to help them.

Back in the Central District, Doflamingo recovers from the Luffy's last attack, realizing Gear 4th is a fusion of both Busoshoku Haki and his rubber which greatly expands his strength. Luffy closes in, commenting he doesn't have much time in the form and continues his attack. But Doflamingo blocks it with a mass of strings. Doflamingo states that there is another power to the Devil Fruits called "Awakening" which not only affects the user but the surrounding as well. He showcases this by turning the buildings around him into strings to Luffy's surprise.

Twenty Minutes later, the Birdcage had shrunk to the the near center of the island. People that are left behind or wounded start to give up and accept their fate as the string closes in on them. Riku, however, gets a Den Den Mushi and broadcasts a message over the island. Telling the citizens of what is currently going and how the island has been under rule of the Doflamingo Pirates. After revealing that their enemies are now just reduced to Doflamingo himself, the efforts of the Coliosum Warriors and that Luffy is fighting against the Shichibukai. He tells the citzens to not give up hope and run to escape the Birdcage. This does indeed inspire the those that had given up to gain their second wind and continue on to safety.

Back to the fight, Doflamingo continue the attack Luffy with masses of strings forcing him to dodge them. Realizing he's reaching the end of his time limit, Luffy flies to Doflamingo. Doflamingo sends another mass at him but Luffy busts through it and hist Doflamingo with a Leo Bazooka. This sends Doflamingo rocketing into the plateau of King's Palace and imprinted into the wall, seemingly defeated.

This was the same tactic used against Whitebeard during the war.[1].
  • A yet unnamed seventh Shichibukai is revealed to have been appointed.[1]
  • Donquixote Doflamingo is revealed to have Portgas D. Ace's former Devil Fruit, the Mera Mera no Mi.[1] He is using it as the prize at the Corrida Colosseum to lure in Luffy.
    • Sabo is revealed to be alive and a member of the Revolutionary Army. He takes Luffy's place in the colosseum and fights as Lucy for the Mera Mera no Mi.[53] He manages to win the fruit and inherit Ace's will.[71]
  • A new race, the dwarves, is introduced. As the number of sentient toys are victims of the Hobi Hobi no Mi, they are not strictly a new species. Although they appear to represent a large portion of the population they cannot be classified as an entirely new race, as their current physical state is transitory.
  • Bellamy is revealed to be alive and has visited Skypiea, having somehow retrieved the golden pillar that was offered to the Straw Hats. He acknowledges Luffy's strength and participates in the colosseum under "recommendation" of the Donquixote family. His bounty has also been raised to Beli195,000,000.
  • The strongest Cipher Pol, CP-AIGIS0, is introduced. They arrive on Dressrosa to clarify for the citizens that Doflamingo did not truly step down from the Shichibukai, nor abandon his role as King of Dressrosa, stating that the article from that days newspaper was in fact a mistake.

  • Usopp activates Kenbunshoku Haki for the first time during his second defeat of Sugar.[85]
  • Doflamingo is aware of the existence of a National Treasure located on Mariejois. Due to the sensitivity of this information, along with the fact the World Nobles branded the Donquixote Family as traitors, they attempted to have him killed. After failing to do so, they relented and instead decided to cooperate with Doflamingo, thus giving him the influence and power of a World Noble despite no longer being one himself.[88]
  • It is revealed that the Ope Ope no Mi is capable of granting a person eternal youth, though at the expense of the user's own. This power has led to it being referred to as the "Ultimate Devil Fruit".[88]
  • Trafalgar Law is revealed to have the D. in his name and for some reason Doflamingo will kill Law if he found out.[90]
  • It is revealed that anybody that is a part of the Will of the D. is considered "an enemy of God".[91]
  • Law is dismembered by Doflamingo, losing his right arm in their second confrontation.[96] His arm is later reattached by Leo and healed by Mansherry.[113]
  • Luffy activates a new technique called Gear Fourth.[112]
