"Eat at Baratie!" is the fifth[1][2] episode of the One Piece live-action series.
Short Summary[]
Luffy and the gang are tested in their ability to fight together on the high seas. They arrive at Baratie, a floating restaurant, where they encounter Sanji, a young chef with a love of fine dining. A duel on the docks shocks the group.[1][2]
Long Summary[]
Garp, Luffy's grandfather, attacks the Going Merry, throwing a cannonball at the ship with his hands, but Luffy deflects the cannonball, causing it to strike the Marine ship's sail. The Going Merry sails into the fog, escaping Marine pursuit. Garp sends one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, Dracule Mihawk, to pursue and capture Luffy. Mihawk eliminates one of his victims, pirate Krieg, before going to the Sambas Region after Luffy. When Koby protests this decision, Garp teaches him to adapt his moral ideals to suit the world, as it is unjust and unequal.
Luffy, after smelling food, stops at the sea-going restaurant Baratie. He meets the line cook, Sanji, who has been demoted to a server by the owner, Zeff. Sanji beats unruly customers Fullbody and Gally with his legs, impressing Luffy. Luffy eats a meal, but is unable to pay the bill, so Zeff orders him to work as a chore boy for one year to pay off his debts. While on break, Sanji tells Luffy about his dreams of finding All Blue, the mythical ocean where the four seas of the world meet. However, a pirate formerly serving under Krieg arrives at the Baratie, starving. He warns of the dangers that lie in the Grand Line, being the only survivor in his crew.
Mihawk arrives at the Baratie, in search of Luffy. Recognizing him as the world's greatest swordsman, Zoro challenges Mihawk to a duel, against the advice of Nami. Dawn arrives and Zoro meets Mihawk for the duel. Mihawk, seeing Zoro as far weaker than him, initially uses only a small dagger to battle him, blocking all of his attacks. However, impressed by Zoro's strong will, he agrees to use his signature sword, Yoru, to battle Zoro. Zoro is defeated and gravely wounded. Seeing Luffy and Zoro's determination, Mihawk decides not to capture them, reporting back to Garp that he let them go.
Episode Notes[]
- The live-action episode changes the following:
- Johnny and Yosaku are omitted.
- The Straw Hats getting into a fight with Fullbody is skipped.
- This means Luffy does not become the chore boy after deflecting Fullbody's cannonball into the Baratie and wounding Zeff. He becomes the chore boy because he did not pay the bill for his meal.
- Fullbody now physically fights Sanji, where in the manga and anime, he simply gets into an argument with Sanji.
- Gally is present, long before he canonically shows up in the Baratie in the Whole Cake Island Arc, arguing with Fullbody before Sanji fights both of them.
- Krieg and most of his crew killed by Mihawk in the Grand Line and therefore makes no appearance at the Baratie.
- Mihawk now goes to the Baratie under orders from Garp, rather than to finish the job with the Krieg Pirates.
- Krieg's wanted poster shows his current short-haired look, instead of the wild-haired, leonine one shown in both the Manga and Anime.
- Sanji now tells Luffy about the All Blue in the kitchen, instead of on the railings.
- Gin getting beat up by Patty is skipped.
- The Straw Hats now spend a couple of days at the Baratie.
- The fish head part of the Baratie is now a bar, instead of the detachable Sabagashira I.
- Zoro challenges Mihawk to a duel at dawn the following day, whereas in the original series, Zoro challenges him to a duel immediately.
- Luffy's mishaps in the kitchen while irritating the cooks and Zeff were severely reduced.
- Carne is absent.
- The live-action episode adds the following:
- Luffy striking Garp's ship with a cannonball.
- The Going Merry entering fog.
- Luffy following a smell to the Baratie.
- A fish-man working at the Baratie.
- Nami drinking with Zoro.
- Usopp getting drunk and dancing.
- Nami witnessing the duel with Mihawk.

- The famous "Wilhelm Scream" can be heard after Mihawk cut Krieg's battleship in half with Yoru.
- The bowl Usopp drinks from has various Sea Kings in it.
- While he does not call out the name, Zoro clearly uses Three Thousand Worlds as his last ditch effort against Mihawk.
- Mihawk's bounty amount is not revealed, instead simply reading "Bounty Cancelled" - this is true of all of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, who have their active bounties rescinded upon joining.
