  • KKD, or Kokonmusō Kaizoku Daikaisen (古今無双海賊大海戦?, literally meaning "Unparalleled-in-History Great Sea Battle of Pirates"), was a One Piece reader participation project featured in Shonen Jump. Readers would submit crews of three with 100 ability points assigned to each crew member in three categories (attack, defense, speed). These values would then be input into a computer which would run an automatic battle simulation. Out of 5,296 teams that made it through the preliminaries, the winning team was "Bakudan" (爆団?, "Bomb Gang") who received a special illustration from Eiichiro Oda in Shonen Jump 2000 Issue 8, which featured the crew together with Luffy, Zoro, and Nami. However, Oda was dissatisfied with this, and thus created a new pirate crew to go up against Bakudan, which became the Endurance Curry Pirates. He designed Hippie himself, then requested help from Nobuhiro Watsuki and Hiroyuki Takei to design the two other members of the crew. Bakudan later won the special battle against the Endurance Curry Pirates.[1][3]
