"Mystery of the Zombies! Hogback's Nightmarish Research Laboratory" is the 342nd episode of the One Piece anime.

Short Summary

Escaping from the Surprise Zombies of the mansion, Nami, Chopper and Usopp discover the truth about Cindry's identity and Dr. Hogback's experiments before being approached by a mysterious samurai zombie with Brook's voice. Meanwhile, Luffy's group are ambushed by ghosts who make them become depressed, and destroy a platoon of outside zombies with a group team attack.

Long Summary

Nami, Chopper, and Usopp are trying to escape from the zombies but the doors are locked, as they find a fireplace, and the three attempt to block the passage preventing them to enter. The three enter in Cindry's room and Nami reads the book about her past of being an actress of how she died on the stage. Nami sees a treasure chest and asks Usopp to open it but when he does it turns out to be a Jack-in-the-Box zombie. Usopp, Nami, and Chopper then escape. Ryuma comes up and talks to the zombies never to fear and that he shall herd them up and laughs maniacally like Brook did.

While Luffy and the crew are riding with Cerberus on the forest, Sanji tells Luffy that the skeleton was bad enough and that they do not need trees and unicorns on the crew and that they already got Chopper (by referring to him as raccoon dog) and Franky (by referring to him as a robot) and that this is messed up enough. Franky starts telling Sanji that he is not a robot, he is a cyborg, and the two argue. Robin then takes notice of how everything they have encountered since they came on the island has had bandages, stitches, and numbers tattooed on their bodies. Suddenly, ghosts appear. Luffy tries to catch them in his net, but they pass through it. When the ghosts pass through Franky, Luffy, and Zoro, they feel despondent. Robin reasons that the ghosts trigger the worst feelings of those they pass through. As Luffy's group resume their journey, Robin thinks the ghosts are separate from the numbered beasts they've seen, and Sanji recalls the ghost the crew saw on the ship. They find a graveyard and see a zombie rise from its grave. Luffy tries to push it back in, but it rises again along with several other zombies. When they advance, Luffy's group fights them off.

Usopp, Nami, and Chopper hear Dr. Hogback's laughter from another room and approach what they find is his laboratory. He is delighted with his new zombie creation, but Cindry wishes it would fail. She is only there to serve soup (without plates or bowls, of course), which spills on the floor. Chopper sees the number on the zombie's arm and recalls the other numbered zombies outside. Nami reasons that Hogback made the zombies, but Chopper pushes back on the idea, reminding her how many zombies they saw outside. A sudden laugh behind them makes them turn around to see Ryuma.
