The Evil Guardian was a being brought to life with an Orb wielded by the inhabitants of Popora's homeland in Paradise. Though the Evil Guardian was intended to be a protector of his island, he was corrupted by the islanders' thoughts of hatred when they created him, causing him to turn on them and wreck havoc. In order to stop the Evil Guardian, Sealed would sacrifice his own life to seal him away underneath the island, leaving it to Popora to guard the seals keeping him contained around the island.[1]

A thousand years later, the Evil Guardian was liberated by the Straw Hat Pirates, only to be confronted by the crew in an attempt to vanquish the Evil Guardian for good and relieve Popora of his heavy duty. During their confrontation, the Evil Guardian absorbed the malice of invading pirates and the enemies from the Straw Hat Pirates' memories, making him transform into the more powerful Evil Master Beast. Despite this, he was still defeated by the crew, which resulted in his destruction.[1]

The Evil Guardian serves as the main antagonist of One Piece: Unlimited Adventure.

Appearance[]

The Evil Guardian was a humanoid and muscular figure with large arms and hands, slightly short legs, and a rather small head in comparison to the rest of his body. He was also very tall, standing over twice the size of a normal human. His skin was dark gray and had blue lines following the joints and the outlines of his muscles. Most of his body was as well covered in detailed black, golden and red armor. Small segments of black plates covered most of the muscles on his body, and on his shoulders were two large, round shoulder plates with three small dents on the front and the back. The shoulder plates themselves had golden outlines with swirl patterns, and under them were two smaller, red shoulder plates. Also, on the top of each of the black shoulder plates was a golden figure of his symbol that could be detached. His upper arms also had two stripes of cloth wrapped around them, and each of his lower arms were covered in red and gray armor with golden outlines that ran down from his lower arms to his hands, where they ended with spiked knuckle. Around each of his wrist were also golden, decorated wristbands.

His waist itself was covered in golden armor with swirl patters. He also had a piece of a red belt on each side, and his front pelvis was covered by a decorated grayish-purple cloth with golden outlines. The upper part of his legs had strips of cloth around them too, and his shoes were light gray with a red upper part and golden whirl patterns on each side. Also, around his neck was a decorated black and golden colored collar, with wild, long red hair sticking out from under it and running down his back. On each side of his collar was also a golden padlock attached, along with a long piece of grayish-purple cloth with golden rings on the ends that hang from his shoulders joints. Finally, he wore a golden, cylinder formed helmet with four red eye shots.

During the battle with the Evil Guardian, he would emit purple smoke when his health reached a certain point.

In his second form, as the Evil Master Beast, he resembled more of a beast. He had a humanoid figure, but possessed dragon-like features. These included a more animal-like posture and similar hind legs. He was also extremely tall, standing almost four times the size of a normal human. He had rock-gray colored skin as well. As for the Evil Master Beast's torso, it was shown to have black segments on his chest and shoulder plates with glowing red and yellow outlines. Directly under his pectorals, he also had a row of small spikes, and next to each shoulder he had one large pink spike. In addition, between his upper body and his pelvis, he had a large blue Orb that connected his upper and lower body. Around said Orb, he also had rows of small spikes connected to his upper and lower body, and above the aforementioned row on his upper body he had two blue eyes with no visible pupils. These features together made his lower torso resemble a face.

The Evil Master Beast's arms were thin, yet muscular, with black segments covering his muscles and had glowing red and yellow outlines. Each of his shoulders were covered in red fur and each of them had one long pink spike and several smaller pink spikes around it on top of it. His upper arms were partly covered in red fur as well, and he had tufts of red fur growing on his wrists. His hands also had pink spikes sticking out from his knuckles and his fingers had long, curved claws. He also had a long and rock-gray tail with a red, jagged spine running down it. His upper legs had as well several tiny spikes sticking out close to the pelvis, and had red fur on them just above the Evil Master Beast's knee caps that reached down to the bottom joint of his lower legs. His feet also had red fur close to the toes and each of his feet have three toes with large claws. He also possessed a long and muscular neck with a beaded necklace around it that was similar to Portgas D. Ace's, but with larger beads and a small tuft hanging from the bead in the middle, and a very small head. His head had blue eyes without pupils and was almost completely covered in red fur with yellow streaks, except from a small spot in the front and had long red hair running down his back.

Personality[]

Evil Guardian Destruction

The Evil Guardian wreaks havoc on the islanders who brought him to life.

Due to being born from the islanders' hatred through an Orb, the Evil Guardian was a corrupt being. Driven by his single-minded purpose to keep all intruders off his island at any cost, he persecuted his targets with absolute ruthlessness and destructive tendencies. However, he took his purpose to an extreme degree, viewing everyone, including the islanders that created him, as intruders and threats that had to be eliminated, even if meant causing collateral damage wherever he went on the island he was meant to protect. It is even implied that he would go beyond his island to destroy all of mankind if he had been left to himself, showcasing an extremist viewpoint on his behalf.[2]

Since he originally was a statue of his island's guardian god, the Evil Guardian believes himself to be the guardian god himself.

Following his transformation in the Evil Master Beast, the Evil Guardian was consumed by rage, thus becoming more wild and savage. Now little more than a mindless beast, he had seemingly lost whatever intelligence he may have had as Evil Guardian. As such, he would showcase more animal-like behavior, such as walking on all fours and only speaking in growls and roars. The only times he would actually speak in human language was when he called out his attacks or when uttering simple words.

Abilities and Powers[]

The Evil Guardian was regarded by the residents of his island as an entity of immense power and strength. According to ruins in the Ruins Zone, he was so powerful that he was regarded as a threat to all of mankind.[2] In addition, the presence of his power alone seemed to affect the laws of physics; in the Dimension Zone, when his prison was down to its last two seals, the Evil Guardian's power had seemingly twisted space in that region, causing rocks that fell down from one place to come down from above. Similarly, an amazing pressure formed from his power could be felt in that region at that time.[3] Also, when all the seals keeping him contained were broken, the eerie feeling of his power could be felt as far as in the most distant part of the Dimension Zone.[4]

The Evil Guardian had high physical strength, enough to snap the thick metal chains that kept him bound in the Abyss Zone after his seals were broken. His strength also allowed him to cause large and potent impacts, create wide tremors, and launch shock waves when smashing into the ground. He could also manipulate a form of energy. This energy not only amplified the power of his attacks, but also allowed him to perform energy-based feats, such as sending streams of energy waves into the ground, launching large orbs of purple energy that homed in on their opponents, unleash orange shock waves, and generate lightning. The Evil Guardian also appeared to be semi-immortal, being able to survive a thousand years of imprisonment without need for nourishment or other essentials for life, although he could still be killed by force. He also had the ability to create and control a seemingly limitless number of his underlings, the Majin Soldiers.[1]

The Evil Guardian's main weakness was that he had very slow movements. Notably, he could not dash, evade or run, being only capable of moving around by walking slowly. This weakness also extended to his techniques, which utilized slow movements to execute them. This weakness allowed small and agile creatures, such as Popora to move in close for an attack and easily avoid his arms' gasps.[1][5]

Following his transformation into the Evil Master Beast, the Evil Guardian received a large increase in both powers and physical attributes, along with new abilities as well. Notably, he received a massive boost in speed; whereas he could only move through slow walk in his original form, he could, as the Evil Master Beast, both run and dash, appearing as if he was hovering above the ground in the latter case. His ability to manipulate energy had been vastly increased too, allowing him to unleash both energy waves and streams with much more intensity, appearing as if they were flames, and create highly potent balls of energy. Also, the Evil Master Beast had the elusive ability to copy the powers and techniques from previous foes that his opponent has met, be they Devil Fruit powers, special skills, or even weapon arsenals. Whenever he successfully executed one of these copied attacks, a symbol related to the original user of the attack, appeared.[1]

In terms of battle style, the Evil Master Beast focused purely on power, namely by launching strong attacks, which would stop him in his tracks, and then proceed to overwhelm his opponents with extremely powerful techniques. However, this was also his greatest weakness, as launching such powerful attacks would leave him wide open.[1]

Weapons[]

The Evil Guardian was able to use the two golden figures of his symbol on his shoulders as weapons. In battle, he was able to remove them both from his shoulders and transform them, creating a dark ring with blue markings and three small spikes on one end and one long spike on the other around each symbol. While they were in this form, the Evil Guardian would dual-wield them and use them to channel lightning through them to perform his special attack.[1]

Techniques[]

  • Gowan (豪腕, Gōwan?, literally meaning "Strong Arm"): A basic horizontal swing with the Evil Guardian's arm. When he swings his arm, he creates a wide orange energy wave that goes along with it. This is called Strong Arm in English releases.
  • Horaku (崩落, Hōraku?, literally meaning "Collapse"): The Evil Guardian swings both of his arms back over his head and then brings them down, creating a large impact on the ground. While swinging his arms down, he leaves an orange energy wave behind. This attack is called Cave-In in English releases.
  • Hado (波動, Hadō?, literally meaning "Wave"): The Evil Guardian pulls both his arms back on his side, stretched out, and his hands and the symbol on his shoulders glow purple. He then puts his hands out in front of him and launches a large orb of purple energy that will follow the opponent until it fades away. This attack is called Surge in English releases.
  • Onami (大波, Ōnami?, literally meaning "Large Wave"): The Evil Guardian makes his hands and the symbol on his shoulders glow purple before hammering his fists into the ground in front of him, sending yellow and orange energy waves through the ground in a straight line. This attack is called Great Surge in English releases.
  • Gekishin (激震, Gekishin?, literally meaning "Severe Earthquake"): The Evil Guardian jumps into the air and starts emitting purple smoke. He then forcefully stomps into the ground, creating a large impact of yellow energy and tremors in the nearby vicinity. This attack is called Earthquake in English releases.
  • Tenpenchii (天変地異, Tenpenchii?, literally meaning "Cataclysm"): The Evil Guardian's special attack. When using it, he detaches the two symbols on his shoulders and transforms them into spiky shields. He then thrust the end with the long spike into the ground and starts launching yellow and orange lightning from his shield-symbols into the air, while unleashing waves of orange energy. The lightning will follow the opponent by trying to strike them from above until the attack ends. This attack is called Cataclysm in English releases.

After transforming, the Evil Master Beast develops new abilities:

  • El Thor (神の裁きエル・トール, Eru Tōru?, literally meaning "Judgment of God"): An attack borrowed from Enel. The Evil Master Beast focuses a large cluster of electricity above his target, and then uses it to send a huge and powerful lightning bolt crashing down from the sky, deep frying said unlucky target. Whenever he uses this attack, Enel’s tomoe symbol appears.
  • Hiken (火拳, Hiken?, literally meaning "Fire Fist"): An attack borrowed from Portgas D. Ace. The Evil Master Beast turns his fist into flames and launches it as a column of fire at his target. This attack is so incredibly powerful that it is able to plow through several ships in one shot. Whenever he uses this attack, the Whitebeard Pirates' Jolly Roger appears.
  • Modoku Gas Dan MH5 (猛毒ガス弾 M・H・5, Mōdoku Gasu Dan MH5?, literally meaning "Deadly Poison Gas Bomb: MH5"): An attack borrowed from Krieg. A bomb containing extremely potent deadly poison gas that the Evil Master Beast launches toward the opponent. It creates a very large cloud of poison upon impact, and the gas is usually fatal to those without a gas mask. As claimed by the original user, Krieg, it could destroy an entire village with one shot. Whenever the Evil Master Beast uses this attack, the Krieg Pirates' Jolly Roger appears.
  • Ground Death (浸食輪廻グラウンド・デス, Guraundo Desu?, literally meaning "Cycle of Erosion"): An attack borrowed from Crocodile. The Evil Master Beast places his hand on the ground and dries up everything in the surrounding area. This does not only include the ground, but anything and everything on it including people and even buildings, all of which is transformed into sand if it has steady contact with the ground. The speed at which things dry also seemingly increases. Whenever he uses this attack, the symbol of Baroque Works appears.
  • Ice Age (氷河時代アイス・エイジ, Aisu Eiji?): An attack borrowed from Aokiji. The Evil Master Beast places his hand to the ground and instantly freezes an entire huge area turning it into a cold, frozen wasteland for one week. Not only does it freezes the area, but turns anything and everything in the area, including living organisms, into completely frozen statues. It is undetermined how long the targets of this version would remain frozen. Theoretically, if used near the ocean or another large area of water, he can, like Aokiji, when placing his hand in the water, instantly freeze it (along with anything in/on it) completely solid and the actual extent of the ice could stretch for miles and last for over a week. Whenever he uses this attack, the symbol of the Marines appear.
  • Rokuogan (六王銃, Rokuōgan?, literally meaning "Six King Gun"): An attack borrowed from Rob Lucci. This technique is the secret and ultimate attack of the Rokushiki style. The Evil Master Beast places both his fists right in front of the target and launches a devastating shock wave, which seems to have the same power as an Impact Dial or even a Reject Dial (depending on the amount of energy absorbed by the dial), and causing massive internal injuries. Whenever he uses this attack, the symbol of the World Government appears. Oddly enough as stated by Rob Lucci, one must have absolute mastery of the other six skills of Rokushiki in order to use this technique, but the Evil Master Beast is not shown using any other Rokushiki skill, let alone displayed any mastery.
  • Furisosogu Ikari (降り注ぐ怒り, Furisosogu Ikari?, literally meaning "Flooding Rage"): The Evil Master Beast's special attack, and the only attack not copied from another person. He lets out a large roar, the eyes on his torso start to glow and he lets out large and intense streams of orange energy from his body, which then flows up above him. He then falls down on all fours and forms eight large balls of red and orange energy that he launches one by one towards the opponent until he runs out of energy balls. This attack is called Flood of Rage in English releases.

History[]

Past[]

A thousand years ago, the Evil Guardian was but a statue of the guardian god of Popora's homeland. However, when the inhabitants of the island wanted Sealed to turn Popora into something that could protect them from invaders, only for Sealed to refuse their request, they stole Sealed's Orb and used it to bring the statue of the guardian god to life to have their own protector, thus creating the Evil Guardian.[1]

Sealed Seals Evil Guardian

The Evil Guardian is sealed away by Sealed.

However, as warned by Sealed, because the Orb was used out of hatred, the Evil Guardian turned on the inhabitants and began destroying the island and slaughtering its people. Eventually, the Evil Guardian approached Sealed, and tried to kill him. However, Sealed blocked his attack with his Orb before sacrificing his life to seal the Evil Guardian away with his Orb. As a result, the Evil Guardian was bound by chains and sealed inside a cavern below the island, with the entrance to the cavern locked behind twelve seals that were spread across the island. Popora would then assume the heavy duty of guarding the seals so the Evil Guardian could never escape.[1]

One Piece: Unlimited Adventure[]

Evil Guardian Chained Up

The Evil Guardian imprisoned in his chains.

A thousand years later, the Straw Hat Pirates arrived on the Evil Guardian's island. Believing the Evil Guardian to be a hidden treasure at first, the crew began breaking his seals. By the time the Straw Hat Pirates had broken half of the seals, the Evil Guardian was given enough freedom to unleash his underlings, the Majin Soldiers, upon the island and capture Popora. When the Straw Hat Pirates later found Popora, however, they agreed to help free him from self-imposed duty by freeing the Evil Guardian and defeating him once and for all.[1]

Popora Fights Evil Guardian

Popora attacks the Evil Guardian.

After finally breaking all the seals, the Evil Guardian was no longer bound inside his cage in the Abyss Zone. Shortly after though, the Straw Hat Pirates and Popora arrived at the Evil Guardian's location for a final confrontation. Hanging in chains above the group, he witnessed their arrival and broke free from his chains to fall below and eliminate the group. Popora instantly attacked the Evil Guardian, but he easily repelled him with a single punch before engaging the Straw Hat Pirates. The crew managed to defeat him, but he soon after absorbed the malice of invading pirates and the enemies from the Straw Hat Pirates' memories in a column of light. As a result, he transformed into the Evil Master Beast. With regained strength and increased abilities, he resumed the fight from where it left off.

Evil Master Beast Explodes

The Evil Master Beast implodes.

Despite his newfound strength and powers, the Evil Master Beast was defeated once more. This time though, his body could not withstand the damage he had received. As he fell to the ground with a roar, the Orb in his midsection began to glow. Then, in a bright explosion of light and energy, his body was incinerated and his Orb shattered, thus ending the terror of the Evil Master Beast forever.[1]

One Piece Unlimited Cruise 1: The Treasure Beneath The Waves[]

When the Straw Hat Pirates worked on clearing the Great Tree's ordeals, they encountered an optional ordeal on Cave Island. The special tree for this ordeal would produce a seed that created a copy of the Evil Guardian. Though the crew was surprised to see the Evil Guardian once again, they were nevertheless able to defeat this meager imitation of him. Upon his defeat, the Evil Guardian turned into a seed that Gaburi ate and converted into a treasure for the Straw Hat Pirates.[6]

Trivia[]

  • Aside from El Thor, all of the Evil Master Beast's attacks are classified as special attacks in One Piece: Unlimited Adventure.
  • Having been born a thousand years ago, the Evil Guardian is, together with the tortoise on which Mecha Island lies, Zunesha, Popora and Sealed, the only known being to have existed since before the beginning of the Void Century. Like the previous ones (with the exception of Sealed) he remained alive until the formation of the Straw Hat Pirates.
