The Figarland Family is one of the royal bloodlines of the World Nobles. Its members have been a prominent part of the God's Knights,[1][2] and the family is one of the five to currently be represented among the Five Elders, through patriarch Figarland Garling.[3] The sole known exception to the family's service to the government is Shanks, a pirate and one of the Four Emperors.[4]
The family was first mentioned non-canonically by Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro in One Piece Film: Red.[5][6]

Garling and his son Shamrock are both high-ranking members of the God's Knights, with Garling being the Supreme Commander while Shamrock ranks as a commander.[1][2] Garling's status as Supreme Commander is uncertain following his promotion to the Five Elders.
Shanks was born into the Figarland Family as Garling's son and Shamrock's twin brother.[4] However, 38 years ago during the God Valley Incident (which took place after a Native Hunting Competition wherein Garling participated), an infant Shanks was found and consequently taken in by the Roger Pirates, leading Shanks into a life of piracy on the Blue Sea rather than embrace his birthright as a Celestial Dragon.[5][7] According to Shamrock, Shanks did at some point return to the Holy Land Mary Geoise, despite ultimately preferring his life in the "lower realm", leading to his eventual defection.[4]
Trivia[]
- In One Piece Film: Red, Nusjuro indicates that Uta may be a descendant of the Figarland Family due to being Shanks' daughter, unaware that she was adopted.
