Jail Island is the main setting of the game One Piece: World Seeker. It is under the control of the Marines. It was formerly called Jewel Island (ジュエルアイランド, Jueru Airando?).[1]

Layout and Locations[]

Jail Island is a lush, green island with multiple elevated surfaces and precious stone formations. It is stated to be rich in natural resources.[1] It is divided in five zones, each of them with at least one main city. Moreover there are three prisons, built up by new Warden Isaac, and several Marine Bases.

Towns[]

Steel City[]

Steel City (スチール街, Suchīru-machi?) is the largest and most populous settlement on Jail Island. It is located on the east coast of the island near the center, being bordered by Halcum Port to the north and Suisho Canyon to the south. The main Marine base of the island is located directly adjacent to the city off to the east, while a bridge connects the city to the Sea Prison from the southeast. Steel City possesses uniquely tall skyscrapers and colorful electronic images. Notable areas within the city include the downtown area which features an open-air marketplace, as well as the "slums" directly west of the Marine base which criminals and Anti-Navy faction members can be found in. Due to the town's population and its close proximity to many locations, particularly Marine-controlled areas, it is often the best place to find and collect information.

Sogyoku Town[]

Sogyoku Town (ソーギョク町, Sōgyoku-chō?, English version: "Sapphire Town") is a town located to the west of the island, directly north of Kohaku Harbor. Given its proximity to the pirate-infested harbor, it is frequently a target for pirates. The town also has a large Anti-Navy population, with the faction's leader Jeanne living in the church there. However, there is also a small Marine base directly adjacent to the east.

Suigyoku Town[]

Suigyoku Town (スイギョク町, Suigyoku-chō?, English version: "Emerald Town") is the farthest-north town on the island, being located directly northwest of Konko Plaza and northeast of Hisui Bridge. The Marines stationed on the island currently make up most of its population, with their occupation causing the vast majority of civilians to move elsewhere. The only civilians that live there are Omusubi and her children, with Omusubi working as a lunch vendor for the Marines.

Ogyoku Mine Town[]

Ogyoku Mine Town (オーギョク鉱山町, Ōgyoku Kōzan-chō?, English version: "Topaz Mine Town") is a town located northeast of Sogyoku Town. Nestled right against Ogyoku Mine to the south, its population consists heavily of miners. However, they are no longer able to mine from Ogyoku Mine due to the Marines taking control of it and barring access, which has created tensions among them.

Kogyoku Village[]

Kogyoku Village (コーギョク村, Kōgyoku-mura?, English version: "Ruby Village") is a village located on the northwest side of the island, directly south of the Prison Tower and northwest of Hisui Bridge. It possesses a harbor, although pirates have been shown to use it.

Ports[]

Kohaku Harbor[]

Kohaku Harbor (コハク港, Kohaku Minato?, English version: "Amber Harbor") is a harbor town located on the southwest side of the island, southwest of Sogyoku Town. The Thousand Sunny was docked here during the Straw Hat Pirates' trip to the island. It is infested with pirates, with some being friendly while others are hostile and will attack on sight.

Halcum Port[]

Halcum Port (ハルコンポート, Harukon Pōto?) is a port located at the very northeast edge of the island, directly north of Steel City. It is a quite industrialized area that specializes in cargo shipping and other official travelers, although pirates have been seen there as well. On its west side is a "warehouse town" where people presumably reside.

Other Landmarks[]

Konko Plaza[]

Konko Plaza (コンコー広場, Konkō Hiroba?, English version: "Emery Plaza") is a large stone plaza located northwest of Steel City and southwest of Suigyoku Town. When Isaac and Jeanne's mother was leader, it was a place where many residents congregated and socialized. Following their leader's death and the start of the Marine occupation, people stopped coming around for the most part. However, thanks to Luffy and Jeanne's work to get the islanders to reconcile, people started congregating there again. It was the site where Jeanne tried to prevent a war between Pro-Marine and Anti-Marine factions from breaking out.

Hisui Bridge[]

Hisui Bridge (ヒスイ橋, Hisui-hashi?, English version: "Jade Bridge") is a three-part bridge connecting the north, northwest, and southwest portions of Jail Island together. The three bridges converge on a small island, which a Marine checkpoint is located on. The bridge is guarded and patrolled by Marines at all times.

Ogyoku Mine[]

Ogyoku Mine (オーギョク鉱山, Ōgyoku Kōzan?, English version: "Topaz Mine") is a mine located within the lone mountain on Jail Island. The mine contains a great many precious gems and used to be freely mined by Jail Island's citizens; however, following the Marine occupation, the Marines took full control over the mines and barred civilians from entering them.

Suisho Canyon[]

Suisho Canyon (スイショー渓谷, Suishō Keikoku?, English version: "Crystal Canyon") is a cape located on the southeast corner of the island, directly south of Steel City. It is lined with a great number of plateaus overlooking crevices below; there are many caves in the elevated ground areas containing precious gems as well as many large gem formations aboveground. Like Ogyoku Mine, it has been fully taken over by the Marines and civilians are currently prohibited from entering it.

Battery Island[]

Battery Island (砲台の島, Hōdai no Shima?, English version: "Cannon Island") is a small forested cape that juts out west from Halcum Port. Although once a popular place for children to play, it has since become infested with pirates over the last decade, with Don Axe having the most power over it.

Graveyard[]

The Graveyard (墓地, Bochi?) is located to the east of Ogyoku Mine Town, and sits atop cliffs overlooking the shores and water below. It contains numerous burial sites and gravestones, one of which is that of the island's previous leader. The Graveyard is tended to by Hakamori.

Spa Island[]

Spa Island is a little island in the sea zone near Amber Harbor, characterized by a constant steam, similar to fog. It hides a secret onsen.

Sky Islands[]

There are two islands in Jail Island's skies. Both are under pirates' control, setting as their main base.

Prisons[]

Sky Prison - Santamaria[]

The Sky Prison - Santamaria ("空中監獄" サンタマリア, "Kūchū Kangoku" Santamaria?) is one of the three Marine prisons on the island. It was a giant flying machine which housed a large prison complex. The Straw Hats infiltrated this prison under the impression that a treasure was located here, but found that there was none and that it was a trap. Later, Isaac intended to fly the Sky Prison into Mary Geoise while it was loaded with Dyna Stones in order to destroy the Holy Land. However, his fight with Luffy caused the prison to lose power and descend into the sea not far from Jail Island, where it was destroyed in a massive explosion.

Sea Prison - Aquamarine[]

The Sea Prison - Aquamarine ("海中監獄" アクアマリン, "Kaichū Kangoku" Akuamarin?) is the second of the Marine prisons on the island. It is a large, mostly underwater complex located on a small island to the southeast of Steel City connected by a long bridge. The prison has six descending levels in a manner very similar to Impel Down, all of which are submerged in water. In order to drain a level and descend into it, one must activate a switch on the level above. Marine guards are seen stationed on all levels but Level 6, though it is not clear how they can stand guard when the levels are underwater most of the time. Franky was imprisoned here but was quickly freed after a break-in by Luffy.

Prison Tower - Tourmaline[]

Prison Tower Tormaline

Tourmaline

The Prison Tower - Tourmaline ("監獄塔" トルマリン, "Kangoku Tō" Torumarin?) is the third Marine prison on the island. It is a large tower constructed out of metal located directly adjacent to Kogyoku Village. It is kept within a conventional stone wall and guarded by a Marine barricade. Its front entrance is just about impenetrable against invaders; however, its roof is open and people can enter it by climbing up platforms attached to its exterior at steady intervals, although Marine guards are also stationed on gondolas hanging down from the tower. The interior of the tower is an open space with spaced-out jail cells built as independently-standing mini-towers. Nico Robin was imprisoned here but was quickly freed after a break-in by Luffy.

Citizens[]

Factions[]

After the Marines began occupying Jail Island under Isaac, two factions formed among the islanders: the Pro-Marine Faction (海軍派, Kaigun-ha?) and Anti-Marine Faction (反海軍派, Han Kaigun-ha?). The Pro-Marine Faction consists mainly of people who value the increased safety the Marines have provided or who benefit from the economic gains created by the prison construction. The Anti-Marine Faction mainly consists of people who did not benefit from the building of the prisons, those who view the Marines' presence to be unnecessary, and those who consider the Marines to be corrupt or untrustworthy.

These opposing viewpoints have devolved into outright hatred between some members of these factions, with these people often treating those in the other faction as stupid and hurling personal attacks at them. Families belonging to a faction have been known to even keep their young children from playing with children of families in the other faction, and keep older children from dating members of families in the other faction. While the Anti-Marine Faction mainly protested the Marine occupation peacefully as their leader Jeanne desired, they also stockpiled weapons in preparation for a potential war against both the Marines and Pro-Marine Faction. This inclination toward eventual violence was shared by the Pro-Marine community, and things came to a head when a Pro-Marine fired a gunshot at a few Anti-Marines in Sogyoku Town, resulting in a brief civil war although the fighting managed to be quelled rather quickly by Jeanne and the Straw Hat Pirates.

This division was subversively encouraged by Isaac in order to start a civil war that would distract several global powers and allow him to successfully destroy Mary Geoise. He possessed resentment for both sides, considering the Pro-Marines to be lazy oafs coasting on the economic benefits provided by the Marines while the Anti-Marines are all cowards who have no intention of seriously fighting against the occupation. With the work of Jeanne and the Straw Hats, many of the islanders have begun learning to put their blind hate aside and talk about their differences civilly; it is not known what the attitudes of the factions are like currently or if they still exist at all.

History[]

Past[]

Sometime in the past, the inhabitants began to extract Dyna Stones using a secret method of excavation known only to the leader of the island.

Twelve years before the main storyline, the Marines hired a pirate fleet to attack the island in order to obtain the excavation method and the Dyna Stones, acknowledging them as a huge threat to world power balance. Thanks to Jeanne's mother, the war was averted, but she lost her life in a fight. The only pirate who survived was Barbados.

Some time later the future leader and Jeanne's brother Isaac left the island in order to enlist in the Marine to pursue justice. He eventually lost faith in the Marines after finding out the truth behind the pirate attack, but continuing ranking up until he reached the position of Prison Warden. He then returned to the island, officially to monitor the Dyna Stone excavation and send information back to Marine Headquarters. During his time on the island, he built two other prisons, which brought richness to the people supporting the Marine's domination. However, the civilians opposing them were ostracized, splitting the population into two factions. Eventually, Jeanne became the Anti-Marines faction's leader.

Isaac secretly began a plan for revenge ten years before the main storyline, when he gathered a huge number of pirates in Tourmaline, and began forcing them to build mechanical parts.

At some point before the main storyline, Isaac began spreading a rumor about a hidden treasure on the island, in order to gather pirates on the island and hinder CP0's investigation and draw the Marine Admirals' attention.

One Piece: World Seeker[]

Following a collection of rumors about treasure, Dyna Stones, and Isaac's robots, various forces in the New World all came to Jail Island around the same time: the Straw Hat Pirates, Buggy, Crocodile, Rob Lucci (on behalf of the World Government, and Germa 66, among others. Even some representatives of Emperors, namely Charlotte Katakuri, were interested in the island's Dyna Stones.[2]

Meanwhile, the growing grudge between the Pro-Marine and Anti-Marine factions lead the latter group to ask for the Revolutionary Army's help, though they did so too late. Shortly after Sabo's arrival on the island, Pro-Marine members shot Anti-Marine members, and civil war spread.

Jeanne was able to appease the civilians thanks to a message spread by the Radio Tower, with the help of the Straw Hat Pirates. However, Isaac decided to put his plan into action, invading the island with his robots and distracting the Marines stationed there, such as Kizaru, Fujitora, Smoker, and Tashigi. Luffy and Jeanne decided to reach Santamaria to personally deal with Isaac, but Fleet Admiral Sakazuki got in the way. However, thanks to Sabo's intervention, both Luffy and Jeanne were able to reach the Omni-Cannon and make it to the Sky Prison.

On the Santamaria, Isaac revealed his true intention: he wanted to launch the prison to Mary Geoise, letting the Dyna Stones explode and destroying the Holy Land. However, Luffy was able to stop Isaac, and the prison detonated far from Jail Island. The shockwave shook the island, causing the Marines to evacuate the residents.

Some time after the Straw Hat Pirates' departure, the island returned to normality, and Jeanne visited her mother's grave, where she discovered Isaac was still alive.[1]
