Amber Sleeping in the Giant Tree: Forest Island is an island in Paradise. It was created by the Great Tree for the ordeals that the Straw Hat Pirates chose to participate in.[2] It was later reformed into Desert Island.[3]
Forest Island was the first island the Straw Hat Pirates visited in One Piece Unlimited Cruise 1: The Treasure Beneath The Waves.
Geography[]
Forest Island is an isle with a rocky foundation, yet covered in rich earth and lush forests with trees, many of which are the size of buildings. Small lakes and waterfalls can be found across the island as well. In addition, massive lumps of crystalized orange amber at the size of native bedrocks can be found further inside the island. The landmark of the island is a colossal naked tree at the top of the island that is covered in crystalized amber.
The island has a few sandy beach areas at the foot of the cliffs near the beach with grass, palm trees and medicinal pants, although they are not necessarily wide. The main beach has terraced rocks to the west leading up to paths that wind throughout the southwestern sector, reaching areas such as cliffs and narrow passageways. Beyond rocks barring paths there are also an isolated beach and a cave in the bedrock. To the east of the main beach on the other hand are more climbable cliffs and a small beach with an ankle-deep seabed stretching out in front of it.
On the other side of a rock wall in the center of the main beach is a moist cave with ankle-deep water in it. That cave leads into a clearing with the first ordeal tree in its center. From there, to the north, the path branches in two.
To the east is a pathway with a concealed gathering of fruit trees behind a cliff and a series of rock terraces leading across a lake. From there, the path leads through a cave and out to the coast again where an optional ordeal tree can be found out on a lone rock pillar not too far from a cliff. The pathway to the west on the other hand leads across a fallen tree trunk with a roaring river below and steadily up along the cliffsides of the island. Eventually, that path will lead up a series of terraced rocks to the island's amber-covered giant tree, with the second ordeal tree concealed inside the amber.
Forest Island is also home to unique some unique flora. One of them is a plant that sports an eye-like bulb; if that spots an intruder nearby, it will grow a bulky and durable flower that spits out explosive seeds at said intruders.[2]
Enemies[]
The following enemies are encountered on Forest Island:
- Mud Puppets
- Normal Marines
- Enforcers
- Robots
Bartholomew Kuma and Enel are the island's bosses, and Buggy is the island's secret boss.

The Treasure Beneath The Waves[]

Forest Island being created as it rises up from the sea.
Forest Island was constructed by the Great Tree after Luffy agreed to take part in her ordeals in return for a present. After the Great Tree threw a giant seed, which Luffy and Gaburi hitched a ride on, into the sea, the seed turned into Forest Island and rose up to the surface. With Luffy landing on the island soon after its formation, the rest of the Straw Hat Pirates made landfall on Forest Island in the Thousand Sunny to pick him up. There, the crew split up in two, with Zoro, Nami, Sanji, and Franky searching one side of the islandd while Usopp, Chopper, Robin, and Brook searched the opposite side. Meanwhile, Luffy woke up from his landing and noticed his crew from a distant cliff, prompting him to make his way to them.[2]
Along the way, Luffy encountered some Mud Puppets and witnessed their transformation powers, although they were no match for him. Meanwhile, Nami's team hit a dead end and had to return to the Sunny. At the same time, Usopp's team were continuing their search when they came across a blockade inside a passage. There, Robin found a stone monument. At the same time, Usopp, Chopper and Brook noticed Gaburi after he had eaten a stick Chopper had picked up. While most of the group was frightened by Gaburi, a calm Robin learned from the stone monument that by feeding Gaburi certain items, he could convert them into a power that would unblock the path. Following the monument's instructions, the group got Gaburi to unblock the path for them and meet up with the rest of the crew.[2]

The path to the second Forest Island ordeal having been unveiled.
As the Straw Hats got together and saw Gaburi, Luffy presented his crew with a parchment he received from the Great Tree. From it, they learned that by clearing the Great Tree's ordeals, they would receive a present for their efforts. While Usopp had his reservations about that, the rest of the crew were pretty much in on such an adventure. Following then a brief trip back to the Sunny, Gaburi would open a path further into Forest Island with the Sunny's Gaon Cannon. Soon after, they encountered an ordeal tree, whose seed turned into a Bartholomew Kuma facsimile. After defeating it, the copy turned back into a seed that Gaburi turned into a treasure. Having become aware of the nature of the ordeals now, the Straw Hats proceeded further into Forest Island, fighting several enemies along the way. Eventually, they reached the top of the island where Gaburi used his power to blow a hole in the amber, thereby opening up a way to the next ordeal tree and freeing swarms of Thunder Scarabs. At the ordeal tree, it spit of a seed that turned into an Enel copy, who in turn summoned several automatas. Defeating them all, the Straw Hat Pirates had Gaburi eat the seed Enel turned back into and convert it into another treasure.[2]
With another ordeal cleared, the Straw Hats Pirates got ready to find the next one, only for Gaburi to suddenly tell them that there were no obligatory ordeals left on Forest Island. While the crew was amazed by Gaburi’s sudden ability to talk, Gaburi was even more amazed by the feeling of happiness he got from the praises he received. While Gaburi had no real answers to the mysteries surrounding the Great Tree and her islands, he knew for certain that the crew were done with Forest Island, prompting them to head to Gorge Island next.[2]
Awakening of a Hero[]
After Gaburi sacrificed his body to save the Straw Hat Pirates from the Doom Guardian, the pirates set sail for Forest Island again to feed Gaburi new seed to replenish his strength with. However, they soon discovered that Forest Island had turned into Desert Island.[3]
Wildlife[]
Swallowtail butterflies and honeybees can be found on Forest Island's flowers, as well as thunder scarabs at the top of the island after clearing the Enel ordeal. Meanwhile, seagulls can be found on the rock platforms out at sea on the central beach, while tree frogs reside in the watery sections inside the cave accessible from the central beach.[2]
Smile jellyfish, island clams, and glistening sauries reside in the sea on the central beach. In the small lake on the summit of Forest Island there are also mata killifish, balloon catfish, and fist crayfish. Island clams, glistening sauries, treasure pargais, and sharks can also be found off the island's southwestern beach.[2]
