Foxfire Style is a style of sword fighting used by the samurai, Kin'emon. Later on, Roronoa Zoro learned how to perform the style and implement it in his swordsmanship.[2]
Foxfire Style allows the user to generate, attack with, and cut through fire. This ability allows Kin'emon to cut through flames and explosions while completely protecting himself from harm, giving it a strong defensive use. For offense, the generated fire enhances Kin'emon's regular attacks and is useful against creatures susceptible to heat.[1]
This style can further be used for first aid, with the fire being capable of cauterizing potentially deadly wounds.[3]
Roronoa Zoro, having seen Kin'emon use this fighting style, later uses it to cut Prometheus in half,[2] and then started combining it with his own techniques.[4][5]
Techniques[]
Kin'emon[]
Homura Saki (焔裂き,Homura Saki?, literally meaning "Flame Split"): Kin'emon slashes his sword to slice an incoming fire attack. This was first used to cut through an explosion caused by pieces of Smiley[1] and was first named when slicing through the flame breath of one of Vegapunk's dragons.[6] This attack was used again against Kaidou, slicing through his Bolo Breath and wounding him at the same time.[7] In the VIZ manga, this is initially called Blaze Slice. In the Funimation adaptations, this is initially called Flame Split. Later, the english adaptations call it Flame-Rend.
Karyu Issen (火柳一閃,Karyū Issen?, literally meaning "Firework Flash"): Kin'emon leaps into the air to attack with a powerful flaming slash. This was first used to defeat one of Vegapunk's dragons.[6] This technique is similar to Zoro's Hiryu: Kaen technique. This is called Fire-Willow Flash in the VIZ manga and Flaming Flash in the Funimation adaptations.
Roronoa Zoro[]
Homura Saki (焔裂き,Homura Saki?, literally meaning "Flame Split"): One of Kin'emon's techniques performed by Zoro, which was able to split the sun homiePrometheus in half.[2]
Homura Saki: Rokudo no Tsuji (焔裂き 六道の辻,Homura Saki: Rokudō no Tsuji?, literally meaning "Flame Split: Crossing of the Six Paths"): Using Three Sword Style's Rokudo no Tsuji and Homura Saki together, Zoro continuously cuts flames into several small pieces within seconds. It was first used against Prometheus, rendering him weakened for a considerable time by increasing the effort it needed to reform.[5] In the VIZ manga and Funimation adaptations, this is called Flame-Rend: Crossing the Six Paths.
Trivia[]
In Japanese folklore, kitsunebi are ghost lights that appear floating in the air, similar to will-o'-the-wisps.
