The Freedom Fighters were a semi-militaristic mercenary group led by Monkey D. Dragon[1] following his defection from the Marines due to their clashing ideologies on "justice". They served as a precursor to the Revolutionary Army.

Overview[]

The organization was active 25 years ago, causing protests and acting more along the lines of a mercenary force due to not having the power to directly oppose governments. Dragon was its captain and one of the "two pillars" of the organization, alongside Emporio Ivankov. The Freedom Fighters did not have many funds or resources, which was the reason Vegapunk refused to join them. Spurred by the beginning of the Great Pirate Era and the tragedy of Ohara, Dragon eventually reformed the organization into the more militaristic Revolutionary Army after recruiting Bartholomew Kuma to his cause.[1][2]

Flag[]

The flag of the Freedom Fighters features an X-shaped design resembling a sword impaled through a crown.

History[]

Past[]

It is unknown when exactly the Freedom Fighters were founded and how long they were active, but 25 years ago they had already made the news more than once, having caused protests in several countries to the point of becoming wanted by the authorities. An article featured a photo of Dragon which inspired Bartholomew Kuma to want to go out to sea someday and spend his life helping others like the Freedom Fighter.[2] The group had invited Dr. Vegapunk to join them, but he declined on the account that they lacked the funds he needed to work on his experiments.[1]

Freedom Fighters Members

The Freedom Fighters become the Revolutionary Army.

22 years ago, months after the Ohara Incident, Dragon and Vegapunk met on what remained of the island. Dragon declared to Vegapunk that he would change the world by raising an army that can fight head on.[1] The same year, Dragon and Ivankov attacked the Sorbet Kingdom to depose the tyrannical King Bekori, forcing him to flee the country. They also released Kuma and his peers, who had been imprisoned for protesting against Bekori's enslavement policy, and invited them to join their group and change the world. Kuma and Ginny accepted the offer, and shortly afterwards the Freedom Fighters transformed into the Revolutionary Army, with Dragon, Ivankov and Kuma as its new three pillars.[2]
