The Freedom Fighters were a paramilitary force led by Monkey D. Dragon.[1] They are the predecessor to the Revolutionary Army.

Overview[]

The organization was active 25 years ago, causing protests and acting more along the lines of a mercenary force due to not having the power to directly oppose governments. Dragon was captain at this point in time, and one of the "two pillars" of the organization alongside Emporio Ivankov. The Freedom Fighters did not have many funds or resources, which was the reason Vegapunk rejected the offer to join them. Spurred by the beginning of the Great Pirate Era and the tragedy of Ohara, Dragon eventually dissolved and reformed the organization into the more militaristic Revolutionary Army after recruiting Bartholomew Kuma to his cause.[1][2]

Flag[]

The Flag of the Freedom Fighters features an X-shaped design resembling a sword impaled through a crown.

History[]

Past[]

The group's origin and longevity is unknown, though 25 years ago, the group had made news articles on more than one occasion, with it publishing that they had caused protests in several countries and are now wanted by authorities. An article featured a photo of Dragon which inspired Bartholomew Kuma to want to go out to sea eventually and use his life to help others like the Freedom Fighter.[2] The group had invited Dr. Vegapunk to join them, but he declined on the account that they were too poor.[1]

Freedom Fighters Members

The Freedom Fighters become the Revolutionary Army.

22 years ago, Dragon and Vegapunk met months after the Ohara Incident. Dragon declared to Vegapunk that he would change the world by raising an army that can fight head on.[1] The same year, Dragon and Ivankov attacked the Sorbet Kingdom due to a new tyrannical policy by King Bekori, leading to him being encouraged to flee the kingdom. As a result, the kingdom's enslavement policy ceased. During the attack, Emporio Ivankov and Dragon also freed Bartholomew Kuma and his peers from their imprisonment, and invited them to join them and change the world. With Kuma and Ginny accepting the offer, the Freedom Fighters transformed into the Revolutionary Army, with Dragon, Ivankov and Kuma as its new three pillars.[2]
