Hototogisu[2] is a Marine Vice Admiral and a subordinate of Vice Admiral Tsuru.[1]
Appearance[]
Hototogisu is a regular-sized, young woman with light hair. Like many Marines, she wears her high-collared sailing coat draped over her shoulders. She also wears a bucket hat with the Marine logo engraved on it and a loose tie with her spotted shirt.
In the past, she wore sunglasses.
Personality[]
Hototogisu cares about Marine cadets and was willing to assault Vice Admiral Garp for giving what she saw as bad advice to them. She also denounces the idea of some lives being greater than others, and believes all lives have equal worth and should be respected as such.[3]
Abilities and Powers[]
As a Vice Admiral, she has authority over lower-ranking Marines.
Weapons[]
During her presence at Swallow Island, she had a katana, but did not use it. On Dressrosa, she had a rifle strapped to her back.
Haki[]
Hototogisu can use Haki, due to all Vice Admirals possessing it.[4]

Hototogisu with Tsuru 13 years ago.
Hototogisu was one of the Marines present for the ambush orchestrated by Tsuru at Swallow Island 13 years ago against the Donquixote Pirates, although the operation itself never came to fruition. She presumably accompanied Tsuru to Minion Island later on to confront Donquixote Doflamingo.[1]
Two years ago, Hototogisu participated as an instructor in a training program run by Garp. He posed a dilemma to the recruits about whether to save an old man or a baby from an island of savage beasts, arguing himself that they should prioritize the baby. Hototogisu then physically assaulted Garp with a wooden bat and yelled at him for suggesting they should abandon the old man.[3]

Hototogisu accompanied Tsuru to Dressrosa, and watched as she discussed Luffy's arrest with Admiral Fujitora. When Mansherry introduced herself to the Marines, Hototogisu fawned over her.[5]

Hototogisu along with Tsuru and her companions at the Marine Headquarters.
Hototogisu appears at the Marine Headquarters listening to Brannew's talk about Douglas Bullet and the current situation on Delta Island.[6]

- Hototogisu (ホトトギス/杜鵑?) is the Japanese name of the lesser cuckoo, continuing the bird theme present in the names of female characters, in particular female marines.
