The Hunger Pirates' place of origin or background is unknown, but they have a reputation of being feared on Jail Island. They had no qualms about taking food from children, demonstrating their greedy and selfish nature.
The Hunger Pirates are composed of three unnamed members. They all have yellow-tinted skin, and one is significantly taller and more muscular than the other two, more average-sized members. It is unknown if any of the members shown are the captain or simply subordinate members.
The Hunger Pirates are not strong, as they were easily defeated by Monkey D. Luffy. The crew claims to have an "ultimate technique" that they use against strong opponents, called the Eat-and-Run, but the technique is only grabbing food from people and running away.

The Hunger Pirates followed Luffy as he gather ingredients for Sanji. After the cook prepared a meal his captain and three children from the town, the pirates demanded that he hand it over. Luffy fought and defeated the Hunger Pirates, but they still managed to perform their "Eat-and-Run" technique, grabbing the food and running away.
