A Hidden Land Concealed in Ice: Iceberg Island is an island in Paradise. It was created by the Great Tree for the ordeals that the Straw Hat Pirates chose to participate in.[2] It was later reformed into either Memory Island, Wetland Island, or Floating Island.[3]

Iceberg Island was the second island the Straw Hat Pirates visited in One Piece Unlimited Cruise 1: The Treasure Beneath The Waves.

Geography[]

Iceberg Island is an isle with pillars of ice protruding from outside its coat. The entire land is seemingly an actually island encapsulated in a giant iceberg. It is set during a perpetual nightfall with a clear sky and an aurora above. It features as well strong and cold winds that make it difficult for visitors not used to such weather to regain their stamina.

The majority of the island is covered in snow-covered white and blue ice, creating ledges, caverns, tunnels, support pillars, slides along and through the landscape, separate layers, suspended pathways, and crevasses of ice throughout the entire landmass. Some of the aforementioned caverns are filled with ocean water. Among the tunnels and caverns are also giant icicles on the roofs that will be dislodged by even the tiniest vibrations in the ground. Otherwise, large and clear ice lumps can be found all over the island.

While flora is spare among the caverns and paths outside and inside the island, there are a few trees, grass patches, vegetables, and flowers growing in the ground where the ice covering the ground is thinnest. Growing out of the ice from below are also giant frost-covered three vines with bioluminescent orange flowers on them. Curiously enough, various tunnels also have pendulum-based axe traps covered in ice that swing back and forth endlessly.

Deep within the island is a giant frozen mammoth partially encapsulated in ice. Deeper inside the island, however, is a small valley with a somehow much warmer climate, complete with green grass, moss, and trees among very little snow and ice.

The paths throughout Iceberg Island start out at the coast and lead into the iceberg sectors. Inside, there are tunnels and ledges that provide routes to a stone monument where Gaburi can form a bridge from a massive tree vine; all other side paths lead deeper into the ice with dead ends with a few key items and locations. From there, the path leads to a clearing where the first ordeal tree is found. From there, following the path out to the coast will yield two paths. The one of the left will lead to a tree clearing and a stone moment where Gaburi can summon pillars across a gap to the second ordeal tree. The path on the right though will lead to a sector where the island's optional ordeal tree can be found behind some obstacles, along with a slide leading all the way around the island on the right side.

The Treasure Beneath The Waves[]

The Straw Hats Pirates On Iceberg Island

The Straw Hat Pirates after arriving on Iceberg Island.

Iceberg Island was constructed by the Great Tree after Luffy agreed to take part in her ordeals in return for a present. The Great Tree proceeded to throw a giant seed into the sea, which turned into Iceberg Island and rose up to the surface. When the Straw Hat Pirates eventually made landfall on Iceberg Island, Luffy was amazed by the landscape and told Sanji to make them some shaved ice for them. Begrudgingly, Sanji complied and tricked Zoro to chop some ice for him, which he used to make some Pirate Shaped Ice. Luffy, Chopper, and Gaburi proceeded to gorge on it until they all got brain freezes, much to Nami's frustration. Despite the pain however, Gaburi took it as a sign of how like-minded he was with the rest of the crew and a sign of their bonds. Immediately after though, Luffy finally began to notice the cold.[2]

Fighting their way through the enemies on the island, the group eventually arrived at a crevasse in the ice. There, the Straw Hat Pirates had Gaburi use his powers to make a vine grow rapidly across the crevasse, forming a bridge. However, Usopp unwillingly ended up hitching a ride on the vine as it grew, and got his head stuck in the snow on the other side.[2]

Soon after, the Straw Hat Pirates found Iceberg Island's first ordeal tree. That tree proceeded to spit out a seed that turned into a Wapol copy. Upon meeting face-to-face. Wapol instantly insulted Chopper for his association with a third-rate doctor like Hiriluk, which Chopper took great offense to, before boasting of his status as king of Drum Kingdom. Chopper did not care though, as he was a pirate and thus had convictions to stand by as dictated by his crew's Jolly Roger. Furious, Wapol attacked the crew, only to get defeated and turned back to a seed that Gaburi turned into a treasure. As Chopper then expressed his pride in how far he had come and the friends he had gained, Gaburi wondered if it was right of them to defeat a king like Wapol. Chopper quickly explained that Wapol was a terrible king and that he got his comeuppance when Luffy overthrew him, which made Guabri realize that not all humans were good like the Straw Hat Pirates. Robin and Luffy quickly pointed out that they were not so righteous themselves though, since they were pirates, much to Gaburi's further befuddlement about human nature.[2]

Chopper On Ice Pillars

Traveling further across the island, the Straw Hat Pirates soon found a stone monument where they got Gaburi to use his powers. That created some tremors that caused Chopper to fall off a cliff. Luffy tried to grab Chopper, but only got his backpack. Fortunately, Chopper landed on one of several ice pillars that rose up from below, creating a path to the next ordeal tree. That tree spit out several seeds that turned into copies of World Government agents, Spandam, and Aokiji. Going first, Spandam intended to kill Robin and the crew for having associated themselves with her. Unfazed, the Straw Hat Pirates stood by their unity and ignored Spandam's threat, prompting the enraged Spandam to attack them alongside his agents, only to be defeated and turned into treasure by Gaburi. Stepping up next was Aokiji, who praised Robin for having found such loyal friends, but now, for some reason, had the urge to kill the entire crew. Despite that, the Straw Hat Pirates defeated the meager copy of the admiral and had Gaburi convert the seed he turned back to into a treasure.[2]

In the aftermath, Gaburi felt like crying from happiness over having friends like the Straw Hats. Still, Gaburi realized that he did not really know anything about the crew's members, which made him wonder if he was really one of them, what friends do, and how to truly become a part of the crew. However, Luffy, Zoro, and Nami enlightened him by saying that there was nothing he was obligated to do. Rather, he should only do what came naturally to him, as friends automatically know what to do when their companions need them. Gaburi had difficulty understanding that, but Sanji assured him that he would get it in due time. With the ordeals on Iceberg Island cleared regardless, the Straw Hat Pirates left for Cave Island next.[2]

Awakening of a Hero[]

After Gaburi sacrificed his body to save the Straw Hat Pirates from the Doom Guardian, Iceberg Island got transformed into either Memory Island, Wetland Island, or Floating Island.[3]

Wildlife[]

flying penguins can be found at the island's coasts while A Class toads and weir storm mice reside in enclosed areas deeper inside the island. Horned icicle lizards reside inside the island's caves and tend to retreat into local water pools. Insects like the ice miyama stag beetles on the other hand can be found on the trees of the western side of Iceberg Island while doze evil eye butterflies can be found on the island's flowers.

Off the southeastern border of the island, smile jellyfish, adventure fish, koala sunfish, and blue-finned elephant tuna roam about.
