Many individuals throughout the world possess a distinctive Laughter Style (笑い方, Warai-kata?), using unusual sounds to modify or even replace conventional laughter (e.g. "Hahaha"). These styles frequently reflect personal traits, motifs, or Devil Fruit abilities.
It should be noted that those with a signature laugh may not always use it exclusively, and may laugh in conventional ways as well.

Note: Several laughter styles, though distinctive, are actually widely-used conventions throughout Japanese pop-culture. These include:
- "Dahaha" (だはは?): A hearty, "manly" laugh. Used by Shanks, Yamato, and Kuzan among others.
- "Wahaha" (わはは?, alternatively ワハハ): A deep laugh, commonly associated with villains and/or old men. Used by Spandam, Silvers Rayleigh, Gold Roger, and Jinbe among others.
- "Bwahaha" (ぶわっはっは?): A stronger version of the above. Used by Monkey D. Garp among others.
- "Kyahahaha" (キャハハハ?): A sharp, arrogant laugh, commonly associated with women. Used by Mikita (Miss Valentine) and Dellinger, among others.
- "Fufufu" (ふふふっ?, alternatively フッフッフッ): A dignified chuckle, commonly associated with women and/or aristocrats. Used by Nico Robin, Boa Hancock, and Donquixote Doflamingo among others.
- "Kukuku" (くくく?): A sinister chuckle. Used by Dracule Mihawk, Streusen, and Charlotte Perospero among others.

Translation and Dub Issues[]
The 4Kids-dubbed anime makes few, if any, attempts to retain distinctive laughter styles, typically replacing them with conventional ones. Significantly more are retained in the Viz manga and Funimation-dubbed anime, though some (especially in early parts of the storyline) are still discarded.
