Making History! The Turbulent Old and New Four Emperors! is the 18th episode recap of the One Piece anime.
Short Summary[]
Zoro and Brook give a recap of the Four Emperors.
Long Summary[]
Zoro and Brook summarize the Four Emperors, beginning with the three original Emperors that have since been dethroned.
Edward Newgate, also known as Whitebeard, was the captain of the Whitebeard Pirates, commanding powerful pirates such as Marco and Kouzuki Oden. Once dubbed the strongest man in the world, he ate the Gura Gura no Mi, allowing him to create powerful tremors and quakes. Most notably, he fought against the entirety of the Marines during the Summit War of Marineford to save his second division commander, Portgas D. Ace. Though he ended up dying at the hands of Marshall D. Teach, one of his former men, he declared the existence of the One Piece hidden by Gol D. Roger, marking the start of a new era of piracy.
Charlotte Linlin, best known by her epithet Big Mom, led the Big Mom Pirates consisting of her family members, totalling over one hundred. She ate the Soru Soru no Mi, allowing her to manipulate human lifespans and impart them on objects. A gluttonous and power-hungry maniac, she often entered Hunger Pangs, breakdowns in which she often used her abilities on her own family members for food. She was defeated by Trafalgar D. Water Law of the Heart Pirates and Eustass Kid of the Kid Pirates during the Raid of Onigashima.
Kaidou was the supreme commander of the Beasts Pirates and the eater of the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, allowing him to transform into an azure dragon. A warmonger, Kaidou sought to create a world of constant warfare in which he would find the One Piece and reign supreme. He allied himself with Big Mom during the Raid on Onigashima, but was defeated by Luffy. Both him and Big Mom were subsequently stripped of their positions as Emperors.
Buggy was one of the two emperors who replaced Big Mom and Kaidou. He and Luffy collaborated to escape the underwater prison Impel Down, orchestrating the first-ever mass escape in the prison. Despite lacking the overall combat strength of his predecessors, Buggy rose to fame by organizing a powerful pirate crew, joining the Seven Warlords and starting his own pirate mercenary service known as Buggy's Delivery. When the Warlords were disbanded, he joined forces with fellow disgraced Warlords Dracule Mihawk and Crocodile, forming the Cross Guild.
Marshall D. Teach, best known by his epithet Blackbeard, is the admiral of the Blackbeard Pirates, one of the most fast-growing pirate crews in the New World. He is best known for defeating Portgas D. Ace in a duel on Banaro Island, turning him in to the Marines and indirectly setting the stage for the Summit War of Marineford. He has eaten the Yami Yami no Mi, which allows him to create black holes which can absorb anything, including the Devil Fruit powers of his enemies. Originally serving under Whitebeard, Teach defected by killing his division commander and acquiring the Devil Fruit. He then broke several powerful prisoners out of Impel Down and killed Whitebeard during the Summit War, taking his Gura Gura no Mi abilities.
Shanks is the leader of the Red Hair Pirates, arguably being one of the most benevolent. He mentored Luffy in his childhood, saving his life from a Sea King. When Luffy was defeated in the Summit War, he also rescued him, stopping Admiral Akainu from killing him. He gave Luffy the Gomu Gomu no Mi, stealing it from a CP9 ship. Though the fruit was not intended for him, Luffy ate the fruit, granting him his powers.
The youngest of the Emperors, Monkey D. Luffy is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates. He declared war on the World Government at Enies Lobby, battling CP9 during a Buster Call just to save one of his crew members, Nico Robin. He also engaged in a direct confrontation with a World Noble at Sabaody Archipelago, where he stopped a slave auction. Liberating Dressrosa from the tyrannical Donquixote Doflamingo, he gained a powerful alliance of seven pirate crews serving under his command. Most recently, he took down Kaidou during the Raid on Onigashima, ending a twenty-year period of oppression in Wano Country and earning him his spot in the Four Emperors.
