Mato[2] is a giant bartender from Elbaph.[1]

Appearance[]

Mato is a slender giant woman with a round face, a long nose, and orange eyes. She has long eyelashes, a few freckles on her cheeks, and straw-colored hair that grows thickly to the sides rather than downwards, creating a kind of wing on either side of her head. She wears a light-colored tunic, over which she wears a maroon apron with the inscription "WAR" ("WARLAND" in the anime), as well as a necklace of round white pearls.[1]

Personality[]

Mato is a kind and sympathetic woman. She treats people with respect.[1]

Relationships[]

Ripley and Colon[]

Mato appears to have a friendly relationship with Colon and his mother, Ripley, as she allows the boy to frequent her tavern[1] and also had him deliver food for his mother.[3] She comforted Colon after he was rejected from joining Shanks' crew, stating that he would upset Dorry and Brogy.[1]

Shanks[]

Mato gets along well with Shanks and his crew and seems to have a liking for him as a man due to his heroic behavior.[1]

Abilities and Powers[]

As a giant, Mato possesses greater strength and size than the average human and major life expectancy.[1]

History[]

Final Saga[]

Egghead Arc[]

When Colon was turned down by Shanks, Mato tried to get him to stop sulking, telling him he would upset Dorry and Brogy by being so caught up on the Emperor. When Rockstar informed the tavern of the Kid Pirates approaching, Shanks promised not to let it turn into a battlefield, which made Mato swoon over him.[1]

Elbaph Arc[]

After the Giant Warrior Pirates returned with the Straw Hats, Mato was informed by Colon that they were traveling up to the Sun World. Since Colon was planning on joining them, she gave him his mother and father's favorite foods to bring up.[3]
