During the Timeskip

At some point in the timeskip, Luffy developed Gear Fourth in order to help him subdue the beasts on Rusukaina.[24] He later asked Rayleigh how to improve his attack power with it, and Rayleigh warned him about the consequences of using it. However, Luffy later learned how to properly utilize Gear Fourth.[25]

The following events are Non-Canon and therefore not considered part of the Canon story.

Luffy continued his training with Rayleigh coaching him on how to use Haki by surviving the hostile environment of the island.

He later followed a scent to a buffet laid out for him by the Kuja (save Hancock still back at Amazon Lily). Just then, a pirate named Byrnndi World showed up and kidnapped Sandersonia and Marigold while defeating Luffy. Hancock heard all of this on a Den Den Mushi with Byrndi challenging her to come after him for her sisters, leaving a Vivre Card for her to follow.

Rayleigh, Hancock, and Nyon managed to find Luffy. Hancock naturally wanted to go save her sisters and Luffy decided to tag along despite objections from Rayleigh since he was still in the middle of training. He eventually agreed only after Luffy promised not to make too much of a scene to keep himself hidden from the Marines.

The Kuja Pirates eventually reached their ship which was revealed to be a massive island base submarine. Luffy and Hancock jumped aboard to begin their rescue operation with the two first fighting against Sebastian, a fishman and strongman of the World Pirates. Despite some difficulty, they managed to beat him.

Meanwhile Luffy and Hancock fell into a trapdoor into the interior of the ship. After running for a bit, they went into an open area and were separated when they tried to go down a hallway. Byrnndi confronted Luffy once more, mocking him on his failure to save Ace. Luffy fought but found that he was no match for Byrnndi, who knocked him around mercilessly, ending with him nailing Luffy to the floor and knocking him out with a Haki-imbued punch.

Buggy and his crew, who were watching the fight from outside the room tried to help Luffy recover while Hancock continued on, confronting Nightin. Luffy managed to recover after remembering the promise he made to his crew and Rayleigh and head off to find Byrnndi. However, he was hampered by Gairam's Kyubu Kyubu no Mi powers, which allowed him to shift the ship's hallways around to his whims. He eventually led Luffy to him and they battled with Luffy briefly incapacitated. Buggy's crew happened upon the area and Buggy bought Luffy time for him to run ahead.

Luffy arrived there and once more confronted Byrnndi in battle. He managed to stay on even ground against him but Byrnndi's speed and experience in Haki left Luffy at a disadvantage. Managing to form Haki over both his arms, he managed to knock Byrunndi down. Hancock soon arrived in the room to which Luffy ordered her to get her sisters off the ship while he fought with Byrnndi. She did so with an order of her own for Luffy to survive.

Luffy and Byrnndi engaged in one final battle with the latter once more mocking him for being unable to save Ace. Luffy acknowledged this but countered that he had friends waiting for him that he could still protect. After trading rapid fire blows, many of which managed to break through Byrnndi's defenses. Byrnndi rushed at Luffy, only for Luffy to stretch his arm and hit him with a Gomu Gomu no Red Hawk, which was finally able beat Byrnndi. With this, Luffy made his escape from the ship.

Luckily, he managed to get out and jump to the Kuja ship in time to which Hancock rushed over and hugged him in relief, much to the shock of her family, Luffy, and even herself. In the aftermath, Luffy returned to Rusukaina to continue his training and Buggy was given credit for Byrnndi's defeat.

Return to Sabaody Arc

The Reunion

After two years of training, Luffy is greeted by Hancock, Marigold, Sandersonia, Marguerite and Nyon who are prepared to take him back to the Sabaody Archipelago. Luffy turns to a group of extremely large animals and tells them to back off from his friends. Sandersonia remarks that Luffy has become the "Boss" of the entire island. Luffy complains that he cannot eat those animals now that they're his friends, but Hancock promises that food is awaiting him aboard the ship he is going to use to get to Sabaody Archipalego. Luffy then reveals that Rayleigh had left him 6 months earlier than planned as Luffy had learned all that Rayleigh could teach him about Haki. When Hancock brought up the idea of becoming Luffy's wife, Luffy bluntly refuses before thanking her. Luffy then put his straw hat back on, a symbol of the pirate Straw Hat Luffy returning from his vacation. The group then sets off towards the Sabaody Archipelago.

After reaching somewhere close to Sabaody Archipelago, Hancock gives Luffy the cloak she wore to Impel Down, a fake mustache, and a large bag full of supplies. Luffy then leaves the Kuja ship on a small boat. While searching for his crew on Sabaody Archipelago, Luffy accidentally knocks over the impostor version of himself. The impostor demands for Luffy to stop, and threatens him to beg for forgiveness. Luffy just apologizes again and keeps on walking. This causes the fake to fire at Luffy who quickly dodged the bullet. He then knocked out all the impostors using Haōshoku Haki and keeps on walking, following the direction in which the Vivre card is going.

Luffy decides to put on the fake mustache that Hancock gave him. He soon meets Fake Zoro and Fake Sanji, who he believed to be the real ones and so followed them back to Fake Luffy. As Luffy follows the fake members, he is led to fake Luffy on Grove 46 and brought up to a podium where the fake crew is at. While the fake Luffy is about to announce his revenge on Luffy, the Marines followed by Pacifistas and Sentomaru attack. While the recruits of the fake Straw Hats are beaten, the real Luffy is revealed to everyone present after Sentomaru takes out the impostor (who turned out to be a pirate called "Three-Tongued" Demalo Black, who worth a mere Beli.png26,000,000) and orders one of the Pacifista to locate him.

Luffy dodges a laser attack from a Pacifista with Kenbunshoku, and takes out the Pacifista in one single Busoshoku Imbued Jet Pistol - this indicates to all the spectators, to their surprise, that he is indeed the real Luffy. Zoro and Sanji greet him, after the two take out a Pacifista together. As Luffy begins to escape from the Marines with the real Zoro and Sanji he sees Rayleigh, and thanks him for everything before saying farewell to him by proclaiming "I'm going to be Pirate King" once more, and sets off to Grove 42.

As the Monster Trio head back to the Thousand Sunny, they found Marines blocking their way only for Perona to come and fend off the marines with her Negative Hollow. She then informed the trio that the Marines were coming by the sea. They were then picked up by Chopper and a giant bird, who quickly took them to the ship. Luffy then had a chance to briefly admire Franky's new body before they were attacked. Hancock and the Kuja Pirates came to Luffy's aid by intercepting the attacking Marine ship.

When Luffy revealed that he knew her, he gained the envy of Sanji while Nami and Usopp were surprised that Luffy was sent to Amazon Lily. They then started making preparations to leave with Nami explaining on how a coated ship works. Luffy said to his crew that he has a lot to talk about and thanked them for following his two-year plan. Luffy then states that it's time to set sail for Fishman Island. With the Marines held back by the Straw Hats' new allies, the crew submerged and head for Fishman Island.

Fishman Island Arc

The Undersea Voyage

As the Sunny submerges, Luffy gets excited and marvels at the scenery around them. He and Zoro then try to catch some fish but are beaten down by Usopp and Chopper.

When Sanji suddenly flies out of the bubble due to his nosebleed because of his weakness towards women, Luffy grabs him and pulls him back in. After Nami further explains about the coating, Luffy and Zoro once again try to catch some fish, but again they are beaten down by Usopp and Chopper. Seeing that Sanji is out of commission, Luffy then decides to share the Bentos he got from Hancock with the rest of the crew. Franky then reveals to the crew that the one who ensured the safety of the Sunny, along with Hachi and Duval, during the last year was Bartholomew Kuma. He states that he found him sitting in front of the Sunny, and later Rayleigh told him that Kuma made a deal with Vegapunk to input a mission to protect the ship until a Straw Hat returns. As the crew wonders about Kuma's true intentions, Caribou and his crew are following behind them from a distance, trying to catch up.

With their seacow, the Caribou Pirates eventually caught up with the Straw Hats and they prepare for battle. Caribou quickly sets foot on the Thousand Sunny. However, before his crew can follow, his seacow, which turns out to be Mohmoo, fled in fear after seeing Luffy, Nami, and Sanji taking the rest of the Caribou Pirates and leaving Caribou alone. The Straw Hats then tie up Caribou.

Luffy defeats the Kraken with his Elephant Gun attack.

When the crew travel through the deep currents and encounter a sea monster known as the Kraken, Luffy decides to tame it and have it pull their ship much to the others' dismay. Luffy then realizes that they are under water, which is a problem for him. Caribou then introduces Flutter Kick Coating to the crew. Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji then use it and fight the Kraken out in the sea. Luffy scolds Zoro for cutting some of the Kraken's tentacles before knocking it out with his Gomu Gomu no Elephant Gun. The Monster Trio defeat the Kraken, but because they are not wearing life-lines, they got separated from the ship as it goes down the "underwater waterfall". Later Luffy successfully tamed the Kraken and named him Surume. Unfortunately, Luffy and Sanji's bubbles had broken, so they had to share Zoro's coating. After some searching, the Monster Trio eventually found the Thousand Sunny and the rest of the Straw Hats just in time for Surume to save them from an Umibouzo. After reuniting with the ship, Luffy was then startled when he heard the undersea volcano starting to erupt.

The Straw Hats managed to escape the eruption thanks to Surume and Usopp's Pop Greens. Soon, the crew sees Fishman Island. Luffy then begins to wonder what kind of food there is in Fishman Island while drooling. Then a gang of sea monsters led by Hammond appear. Hammond gives the crew two options: join the New Fishman Pirates or die. As the Straw Hats prepare to run using Coup de Burst, Luffy gives Hammond a rejection.

Trouble in the Underwater Paradise

Hammond does not take kindly to Luffy's rejection and prepares to attack the Thousand Sunny. Franky activates Coup de Burst and the ship flies through the bubble surrounding Fishman Island. After they passed through the bubble, they fell into a current and the crew is separated. Luffy then wakes up in Keimi's house where Sanji, Usopp, and Chopper are also there. Keimi introduces them to some of her friends, the Medaka Mermaid Quintuplets. She then takes the four pirates to Mermaid Cove where they meet more mermaids.

As the crew relaxes in Mermaid Cove, Luffy asks Keimi if he can see Jinbe. When Keimi informs him that Jinbe is not on the island, Luffy shows his disappointment as he was looking forward to meeting him. Soon the Medaka Mermaid Quintuplets inform Keimi and the group that a royal gondola is approaching. Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper then hide behind cover while Sanji is being covered by a mermaid. The three brothers of the Neptune House appear, searching for the people who entered Fishman Island illegally. The mermaids deny seeing any intruders. As the three brothers are leaving, Sanji gets another massive nosebleed, making him lose more blood than ever before. While Sanji is in critical condition, Luffy, Chopper, and Usopp beg for a blood donation. Hammond and his group then appear and tell the story of how Fisher Tiger supposedly died. After a gruesome battle, Fisher Tiger suffered a critical blood lost and could have been saved with a blood transfusion, but humans refused to help him. Hammond goes on to say that because of the humans who left Fisher Tiger to die, there is a law that prevents fishman and merfolk from sharing blood with humans. Hammond then attempts to capture the four Straw Hats, firing a net at them, but Luffy is able to dodge the net by sidestepping it, and knock out the pirates with Jet Pistol. A sea monster tries to attack Luffy, but he subdues it with Haki. Keimi takes the gondola and helps the four Straw Hats escape and takes them to the town port.

At the town port, Keimi and the four pirates find shelter in Madam Shyarly's Mermaid Cafe. Madam Shyarly provides them a room where they can treat Sanji. Luffy and the others luckily come across Splash and Splatter, a pair of okamas who happily agree to donate blood to Sanji. As Sanji is recovering, Luffy recalls that he got a scar on his arm after he attacked Hammond and his two companions. Luffy noticed that the octopus merman managed to block his attack. Chopper checks Luffy's blood and sees that Luffy was poisoned and is amazed that Luffy's body is able to fight against it. Luffy then remembers an old foe, Magellan. As Sanji is resting with Chopper watching over him, Luffy, Usopp, and Keimi go to the Mermaid Cafe and meet Madam Shyarly, the owner. Luffy and Usopp marvel at Shyarly's crystal ball and learn that Shyarly was a fortuneteller. Luffy asks if mermaids can poop but gets quickly terrified of Madam Shyarly. Keimi then takes Luffy and Usopp to the front entrance of the Mermaid Cafe. Luffy shows his great disappointment when he learns that Mermaid Cafe does not serve meat. The group soon meets Brook and Pappug and they have a happy reunion. Pappug delighted Luffy by offering him sea monster meat and Luffy is glad that there is meat on Fishman Island. The group then travel by riding on a fish taxi and Luffy sees a variety of fishmen and merfolk. They soon come across a candy factory with Big Mom's jolly roger on it. After learning that Big Mom is the new protector of Fishman Island, Luffy comments that she must be a nice person and wonders if he will meet her someday. After passing the factory, they arrive at Pappug's house.

Luffy and the group soon learn that there is a Criminal clothing store on the first floor. As soon as they enter the store, they find Nami making complaints for the high prices. Pappug says that the Straw Hats can have whatever they want for free. After hearing this joyful news, they empty the store much to Pappug's dismay. They then hear a commotion outside the store and they find that King Neptune has arrived to meet them. Luffy and the others are then invited by the King himself to his castle.

Luffy and his group take a ride on Megalo while Neptune rides on Hoe. On their way to the palace, Luffy spends his time sightseeing. Once they arrive at Ryugu Palace, Luffy marvels at the sight of it. After entering the caste, Luffy wanders away from the group in search of food. Luffy had followed his nose but lost the scent. He saw a door that he thought the smell of the food originated from. The double door in question is huge, made of mostly metal, had two sets of handles, ring knockers high above and then regular handles near ground level. Embedded in the doors, were three swords and a double-bladed axe. Embedded in the wall around the doorway was an axe, another sword, and the head of a morning star. Luffy, completely ignoring the weapons embedded in the doors and walls, thought the sturdy look of the walls reminded him of Impel Down. He wondered how good food behind that sturdy of a door could be. When he went through the door, it was pitch black, but Luffy saw food on the other side of the room, making him wonder if the room was the banquet hall. He then wondered if he had found the food vault. Luffy then decided he would only take a little bit of the food, as his stomach was at its limit. While running across the room, he crashed into something. He thought it was coral that felt really soft. When he first touched the coral, he heard a grunt, but thought it was someone outside. He then began jumping on the coral, comparing its consistency to pudding. He then hears someone ask if someone was in the room. A light suddenly came on and Luffy suddenly began to fall.

Luffy meets the Mermaid Princess.

He falls next to a gargantuan giant smelt-whiting mermaid, the mermaid princess, Shirahoshi. What he had thought was coral was actually the coarse material of her top and the softness he felt was actually her breast. She asked him what he was doing on someone else's body and who he was. Luffy was amazed by the size of the princess. She then asked him if he were here to take her life too, and that she was not scared. She tried to hide her fear by saying she was the daughter of Neptune, but she could not hold back her tears, which were so big that Luffy had to actually dodge the falling water droplets. She then yelled for her father and brothers, as Luffy pointed out that he was not doing anything to her.

As she continues crying, an axe thrown by Vander Decken IX comes flying into her room aiming for the princess. Luffy deflects the axe, saving Shirahoshi's life. When the guards come to Shirahoshi's room, the princess hides Luffy from them. She tells the guards that the noise they heard coming from her room was her having a bad dream. The Minister of the Right explains the situation with the Straw Hats. Once the guards leave, Shirahoshi speaks with Luffy. While Luffy is eating, Shirahoshi asks him many questions about the outside world and wonders how Luffy can eat so much while poking him in the cheek. Luffy snaps back and Shirahoshi starts to cry saying that no one had ever yelled at her before. Luffy points out that Shirahoshi is a big crybaby causing her to cry even more. Luffy then offers to take a walk with her outside the castle with him being the bodyguard.

Luffy asks Shirahoshi about where she wants to go. The princess says that she wants to go to the Sea Forest. When she starts crying again, Luffy starts to refer to her as "weakling." Knowing that Shirahoshi's size will draw attention, Luffy comes up with a plan. As Brook and the Minister of the Right arrive to her room, Shirahoshi exits the room stuffed inside Megalo while Luffy rides on top of the shark. Once they leave the palace, Shirahoshi tells Luffy that in the Sea Forest, there is a grave that she wants to visit. Unbeknownst to Luffy, Jinbe is there waiting for him. While hovering above Coral Hill, Luffy sees Chopper, Sanji, and a bandaged Hatchan. Once Luffy jumps down to meet them, he is met with accusations from the Fishman Island citizens for mermaid kidnappings. Megalo has finally reached his limit and spits out Shirahoshi. The Fishman Island citizens instantly concludes that this is a Mermaid Princess kidnapping.

Luffy pummels Decken into the ground.

After tying up Luffy, Chopper, Sanji, and Hatchan, the citizens discuss about what they should do with Luffy and his group. Once they decide that beheading them is the best course of action, Vander Decken IX flies in on his thrown piece of coral, demanding the princess to marry him. Shirahoshi refuses, saying that Decken is not her type. Enraged, Decken prepares to kill her. The citizens urge her to run, but Luffy tells her to stay where she is because he will not be able to defend her if she gets too far away. Luffy uses Haki to subdue the fishmen restraining him and using only his legs to smash the coral and pummel Decken into the ground. Shirahoshi then unties Luffy much to the surprise of the citizens. The princess, Luffy, and his friends then hop on Megalo as they attempt to flee the scene. Decken calls out to Wadatsumi to intercept them, but Luffy hits him in the mouth with a Jet pistol, shattering one of his teeth. The group then continue their path to the Sea Forest.

They soon reach the Sea Forest and meet Jinbe, Franky, and Den. Luffy introduces Shirahoshi to Franky and is overjoyed to see Jinbe again. Franky then introduces Den to Luffy. After deflecting an axe thrown by Decken, Luffy watches Shirahoshi pays her respects to her deceased mother. Nami and Keimi arrive bearing terrible news about the Ryugu Palace. Jinbe then decides to reveal that he was responsible for allowing Arlong to run wild in the East Blue.

Before Jinbe begins his explanation, Luffy displays his forgetfulness by not recalling what Yosuku said about Jinbe back in the East Blue as well as forgetting the name, Fisher Tiger. In the meantime, Luffy listens to Hatchan as he explains the fishmen and merfolk's dark history and to Jinbe as he explains the ideals of Queen Otohime and Fisher Tiger. Luffy sleeps through the whole thing, only remembering the very beginning when Otohime confronted the robber. After Jinbe finishes his story, Sanji wakes Luffy up by kicking him. A visual Den Den Mushi appears and the group watches Hody Jones' speech.

After Hody Jones explains his plans of creating the new Ryugu Kingdom, he leaves a message for the Straw Hats. After he executes Neptune, he is going to drown Zoro, Usopp, and Brook. He then shows Luffy's wanted poster and says that he will make a fine example out of a Beli.png400,000,000 bounty head. Luffy celebrates his bounty increase to while Nami scolds him for it. He then decides that if Hody wants a fight, he has no other choice but to give it to him. However, Jinbe tells him not to go, as fighting Hody will add to the human/fishman prejudice. Luffy, however, tells him that he has to save his crew mates and that if Jinbe wants to stop him, he will have to fight him.

Luffy remains insistent on going to Ryugu Palace. He tries to hop on Megalo, but Jinbe stops him with fishman karate. Luffy counterattacks with a Jet Stamp and Jinbe blocks it. The two then charge at each other when a clone of Robin suddenly appears between them. Before they collide, the clone vanishes and Luffy and Jinbe hit each other. After the real Robin appears, Jinbe once again tries to reason with Luffy, but the Straw Hat captain remains stubborn. Jinbe comes up with a plan that will make Luffy look a hero instead of a villain. Luffy disagrees at first but goes along with the plan when Jinbe agrees to give him all the meat he wants.

Battle for Fishman Island

Jinbe and the Straw Hat Pirates face off against the New Fishman Pirates at Gyoncorde Plaza.

Luffy goes to Gyoncorde Plaza while hiding inside Megalo. He jumps out of Megalo's mouth at the moment when Hody is about to kill Neptune and attacks the coup leader, sending him flying back. After Jinbe shouts for the rest of the crew, Nami manages to steal back the world nobles' letter, as well as the keys to the royal families' locks, which Robin uses to free them. Above the plaza are the Thousand Sunny and Neptune's whale, Hoe. The Sunny blasts the New Fishman Pirates with the Gaon Cannon while the whale rescues his master and the princes. The island residents ask Luffy if he's a friend or foe, to which he responds that it's their call to make. The rest of the crew then gather at the plaza, and are prepared to engage Hody's crew in combat alongside Jinbe. Upon hearing that Hody ultimately plans to become the Pirate King, Luffy becomes enraged. When Hody orders his subordinates to attack the Straw Hats, Luffy unleashes a burst of Haoshoku Haki and knocks out half of them in an instant. He then tells Hody that no matter what kind of king he plans to become, there can only be one Pirate King. Luffy activates Gear Third and take out more of Hody's men.

Luffy strikes Hody.

As the battle with the New Fishman Pirates commences, Luffy takes the time to gaze and admire Franky's new weapons from the Soldier Dock System: the Black Rhino and the Brachio Tank. When Hody commands Surume to attack, Luffy reminds the kraken that they are friends. Luffy then hops on Surume's back as the beast attacks the New Fishman Pirates. When Hody threatens to kill Surume's family at the North Pole for disobeying him, Luffy understands why Surume had to join with him. He then tells the kraken that he will protect his brothers too. He then walks over to Hody, enraged at the fishman's threats toward Surume. He dodges the attacking pirates, and gives the fishman a swift and devastating kick to the fishman's jaw.

Hody then retaliates by punching Luffy's face, but due to Luffy's rubber body (and Hody's amateur Fishman Karate), Luffy's neck stretches back. Luffy takes advantage of the situation and uses his Busoshouku Haki to harden his forehead. When the Iron Shell Division comes to guard Hody, Luffy uses his head to smash right through them. He then uses his Haki again to harden his arm and block a kick from Hody and then hardens his leg to give Hody a powerful kick of his own. Hody attacks with a Yabusame barrage but Luffy uses his Kenbunshoku Haki to dodge it before giving Hody a Haki-imbued punch that sent him flying. Luffy noted that Hody was tough when he managed to get back up. Upon seeing Shirahoshi willing to sacrifice herself so that Noah would not destroy the island (and Hody climbing up underneath Noah to go after Vander Decken IX), Luffy told his crew that he is going up there. Upon receiving a bubble-making coral from Jinbe, Luffy grabs onto Sanji's leg and prepared to be catapulted up to Noah.

After Sanji sends Luffy flying, he lands on one of the chains. Luffy equips himself with a flutter kick coating before he goes into the sea. Hody attempts to attack Luffy, but he is helped by Fukaboshi. Luffy tells Fukaboshi to take him to the deck of Noah, but Hody goes ahead of them. After Hody deals a devastating blow to Decken, he tries to kill Shirahoshi. Luffy grabs Hody and throws him away.

Hody is undeterred and is still confident that Fishman Island will be destroyed and that Luffy cannot do anything to stop it. However, Luffy is confident in his own abilities after his two-year training. When Shirahoshi changes her course, Hody attempts to stop her, but is grabbed by Luffy again. Unfortunately, Decken passes out and the ship no longer follows Shirahoshi and begins to fall.

Luffy then plans on destroying Noah, but Fukaboshi tells him that the ship is too important to destroy and that they should move it instead. As Luffy and the princes fight against Hody, he keeps interfering with their attempts to stop Noah. Luffy punches Hody into the ship and Hody slices a hole in the air bubble in retaliation, preventing Luffy from boarding it. After Fukaboshi learns Hody's true character, Hody then tries to stop Luffy and Shirahoshi again, but Luffy breaks his Kirisame and sends Hody flying back, and Hody once again gets back up. Fukaboshi tells Luffy about how the New Fishman Pirates were formed out of hatred and resentment. As the prince laments on how everything has been happening, he asks Luffy to bring Fishman Island back to zero. Luffy tells Fukaboshi that he will not let anyone hurt Fishman Island because they are friends. Hody once again charged at Luffy, but Luffy managed to deliver a very devastating blow to Hody's chest.

Luffy striking Hody with "Gomu Gomu no Red Hawk".

After the attack, Hody was sent flying towards Noah and crashed there. After getting up and seeing Luffy coming towards him, he eats more pills and prepares to attack Luffy. He uses a new attack called 'Murasame', but he fails as Luffy dodges his attack. Luffy then counterattacks using 'Elephant Gun' and finally defeats Hody Jones. After Hody has been dealt with, Luffy starts destroying Noah. As he barrages the ship with his attacks, the wound he received from Hody starts opening up much to Shirahoshi's horror.

Luffy wrecks the ship piece by piece until Shirahoshi suddenly yells at Luffy to stop. Luffy then sees that the ship has been stopped by the Sea Kings. With the Sea Kings' help, Luffy no longer needs to destroy Noah. As Luffy faints from his wound, he is glad that everyone is safe.

Luffy loses alot of blood from the battle. Shirahoshi carries Luffy back to the plaza. Chopper requests a blood donor, but the citizens are reluctant to help. Jinbe volunteers to be Luffy's donor. During the transfusion, Luffy regains consciousness and asks Jinbe to join his crew.

The After Battle Party, Huge News, and Departure

Not wanting to be thanked as heroes, Luffy and the others quickly leave the plaza. Jinbe declines Luffy's offer of joining the Straw Hats. Jinbe states that while he's grateful for the offer, he states that he has unfinished business to attend to but once that is all done and if he still wants him to join, Jinbe will gladly join and Luffy agrees. One of Neptune's guards catches up with the crew and through a Den Den Mushi, Neptune invites the crew to a banquet. Luffy gladly accepts and went to get Hachi and Keimi first. They all arrive at the palace and have a huge party in honor of their victory.

After partying for a while, Jinbe talks to Luffy and his present crew members about some important information. Jinbe brings them up to speed about what happened during the two years they were all away. He informs them about a dispute between Aokiji and Akainu over the position of fleet admiral. Akainu won the position and Aokiji stepped down rather then serving under Akainu. Jinbe then explains about the Blackbeard Pirates' rise to power with Blackbeard becoming a Yonko. He also warns them that the Blackbeard Pirates are stealing the abilities of powerful devil fruit users for themsleves, but Luffy ignores him and states that he works better without making plans. Luffy then senses something wrong and goes to check on Shirahoshi with Zoro and Sanji and finds Caribou trying to abduct her. Luffy saves Shirahoshi by sending Caribou flying out of the palace. When Nami finds out that Caribou has treasures in him, she sends Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji to capture him and get the treasures for her.

The trio then find an unconscious Caribou and collect all the stolen treasures. On their way back to the palace, they spot a crowd in front of the Candy Factory. Luffy then casually tells Big Mom’s messengers that he ate all the candy. One of the messengers, Bocoms, then wonders what candy Luffy is talking about. However, his crewmate, Baron Tamago, interferes, asking if Luffy really ate the candy. Luffy says that he did and Tamago explains that Fishman Island is under the protection of Big Mom and the island will be destroyed if the monthly offering of candies will not be done. The Den Den Mushi rings, and Bocoms says that it is Big Mom calling. Luffy picks it up and shouts, telling her that he's going to be the Pirate King and that he ate all the candies of Fishman Island. Big Mom does not believe him at first, saying that he's only covering up for Fishman Island. Luffy strongly insists that he did and offers treasures to the Yonko. Tamago then suggests Big Mom to accept the money, because of the fact that the Kid Pirates sank two of their ships. Big Mom shouts at him, saying that she has decided to target Luffy in place of Fishman Island. Luffy challenges her saying that he will defeat her and make Fishman Island his territory.

Even though Luffy infuriates Big Mom, he still hands over the treasures to Tamago and Pekoms. The Monster Trio then return to Ryugu Palace and explains the situation to everyone there. The three then receive a beating from Nami for giving away the treasures.

Luffy and his crew make a promise with Shirahoshi that they'll return and visit her again.

Later when the Straw Hats are departing Fishman Island, Shirahoshi tearfully wishes for Luffy to stay longer, which causes Luffy to scold her for crying so much and she apologizes. As the Straw Hats leave, Shirahoshi swears to Luffy that she will stop being a crybaby. Luffy then makes a pinky promise with her that if they meet again, he will take her to the surface. After sailing away from the island, Luffy looks forward to seeing Shanks again.

As they travel to the New World, the crew decides to catch some sea monsters to eat. As they try to catch some, they get caught in a White Storm and are sucked in but stopped by a group of whales that resemble Laboon. After Brook sings Bink's Sake to pleasure them, they help take them to the New World's surface and Luffy says the weather is perfect after everyone else commented on the weather.

Luffy and the crew celebrating Cherry Blossom season.

Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates are having a cherry blossom party. Luffy is goofing off, stuffing himself with meat while Brook is singing. Chopper becomes distressed when inhaling poison drifting in the air, while Brook is inspired to write a song about it. The smell is shown coming from Usopp spraying poison over his Pop Greens, as Robin happily waters some of the plants. Usopp reassures Luffy that the poison is merely meant for killing worms with Zoro showing a liking to the tainted flavor of his alcohol.[26]

Chopper finds his milk still tastes bad and worries it's because he's growing up into an adult. Luffy tries it and finds it tasted horrible too. Volcanic ash begins to rain from the sky, with Chopper pouting it's ruining his fur. Nami studies her log pose and finds the needle spinning where the volcano had erupted from. Usopp whispers to her that they have to hide this from Luffy, and choose a safer route. Luffy notices it anyway, deciding to head in that direction.[26]

Luffy spots the battered body of Z clinging to life on a piece of wood out at sea, and tries to rescue him. When he grabs ahold of his mechanical arm he becomes weak with Sanji and Usopp having to help pull him aboard. Chopper examines him, but finds that he should be fine. Robin notices his arm is built out of Seastone, the reason why Luffy became weak when he touched him. Nami finds it a dangerous thing, but Luffy and the others are in awe over it. Sanji reminds them all that Seastone is used against Devil Fruit users with him and Zoro debating whether to throw him overboard. Chopper defends him, with Luffy ordering him to save his life and that he'd deal with him if he was an enemy.[26]

Luffy and Z meet.

Z meets Luffy and immediately tags him as the ships captain. Luffy asks him what he plans to do next, as Z tells him he is carrying a Vivre Card and his comrades should find him soon. Luffy begins asking questions about his mechanical arm, asking where he bought it. He tells them how when he lost his arm to a pirate, a Marine scientist helped build it for him. He tells Luffy its use against Devil Fruit users, able to weaken any foe once he gets a grip on them.[26]

He does comment that due to its heavy weight, it would be hard to survive if he fell into the ocean and only a special key can take it off him. Luffy asks if he is a Marine, to which he responds he had left them for being too old and is pursuing a different goal. Luffy comments it would be bad if he was a Marine, telling him they are pirates.[26]

Z subdues Luffy.

Z is angered by this, and throws Luffy through the wall. He asks Luffy why he is a pirate, as Luffy proudly responds he will be the Pirate King. This comment infuriates him, as he madly swings his Battle Smasher around. Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji all begin fighting him with Z able to hold them all off with relative ease. Ain and Binz then arrive with a fleet of ships and board the Sunny, announcing they will be confiscating it.[26]

Z overpowers the Monster Trio, as he holds Luffy in his grip, helpless against him. He chastises Luffy's dream, telling him he'll never be Pirate King with his strength. Curiosity piqued, he asks Luffy his name. When he tells him, Z connects him as Garp's grandson and spares his life. He announces to the Straw Hats he will destroy all pirates, as the Neo Marines begin to attack the Sunny. With the ship being damaged and most of the crew unable to fight back, Luffy has them retreat. He frees Franky from his bonds, as he uses a Coup de Burst to escape.[26]

Luffy and the Straw Hats are recovering on a nearby island, where Franky goes to work on fixing the Sunny. He tells Luffy to go after Z while he repairs the damage done. Chopper regrets saving Z's life, but Sanji tells him a pirate should live without regrets of what he believes in. Nami tells him that they must track them down, or else she will never get her original body back. She would not be as helpful a Navigator to them without her full grown body. Nami proposes gathering intel on their enemy as the first place to start.[26]

Mobston, an old man approaches them and asks if they had a run in with Z. He tells them many pirate ships that have come to the island have been attacked by him. He tells that many who had been attacked by him, lost their will to continue and left the New World. He is pleasantly surprised Luffy still wishes to fight him, after losing so badly to him and offers up his finest equipment to use in their quest. Nami tells the crew to not arouse suspicion, they need a new change of clothes first. They are told their best place to start is to take the Sea Train to Secon Island.[26]

As they head to their next destination, they split up their search. Luffy, Brook, Sanji, and Zoro, all relax in a local hot spring to rest, recover, and prepare for the upcoming fight. Sanji comments Devil Fruit users are a pain, seeing Luffy and Brook become quite weak. Sanji tells Luffy to keep a low profile since the island is crawling with Marine soldiers.[26]

Kuzan with the Straw Hats.

As Luffy and the others relax in the hot springs, Luffy vows to not let his guard down around Z again. Sanji tells him as long as he is a Devil Fruit user and lets himself get caught by his arm he will lose, offering him and Zoro to fight him instead. Luffy turns him down, knowing to avoid his arm for their next fight. Among the other people in the bath is Kuzan who was eavesdropping in on their conversation. He chimes in saying he was getting tired waiting for them, leaving them to all immediately panic.[26]

Kuzan reassures them he is not there to capture them, and had given up being an Admiral. He tells them again he is not their enemy anymore and reminds them if he was he would not be in a hot spring where he cannot use his powers. As Kuzan gets out of the water, the Straw Hats see his battle scarred body, and his missing leg that he regrows with his ice powers. He merely says he got carried away, when explaining this.[26]

Kuzan and the Straw Hats talk some more, with Luffy asking him what happened to his leg. Kuzan takes offense and tells him there are some things that should not be asked. Luffy tries to change the subject and asks about Akainu on why the two of them fought, believing they were friends. Kuzan refuses to comment on that. He does go on say that he wishes his only reason for coming was to enjoy the hot springs, but is chasing Z. He guessed that they had gone against him, remarking how strong he is.[26]

Kuzan warning the Straw Hats about Z.

Afterwards, Kuzan and the Straw Hats are seen making their way to port. He tells them that Z plans to destroy piracy by destroying the One Piece. He has chosen to follow Z's journey, but is unsure what actions he himself must take. He then departs, telling Luffy he will find Z on the island.[26]

Luffy thinks back to his encounter of Z pondering over him, until the rest of the Straw Hats catch up with them with a group of Marines chasing them. Luffy dispatches them all with his Haoshoku Haki. Reluctantly, the Marine Captain tells him the location of Z. The Dyna Stones on the island explode, causing the volcano to erupt. Z informs his men the destruction the Second Point has been a success and they need only destroy one more island.[26]

Luffy's second fight with Z.

Luffy charges forth and attacks with his Gomu Gomu no Rifle technique. Z blocks it, showing mild surprise to see Luffy. Luffy demands Z change his friends back to normal, as Ain and Binz attack. Sanji and Zoro intercept them, fiercely battling them both. Z tells Luffy if he wants something, he has to take it like a pirate. Luffy and Z both strike, the shock setting off the volcano to explode forth with magma. Kuzan saves the lives of some civilians by knocking away a volcanic rock and tells them to get to the Sea Train. Kuzan looks on at the devastation, wondering if Z has finally lost his mind.[26]

Luffy tells Z he would not be able to catch him this time, entering Second Gear. Z sends a volley of bullets at Luffy that he dodges before attempting once again to land a hit. Z blocks him again, but this time using the power of his Armament Haki on his normal arm. He asks Luffy to become Pirate King if he has the determination to risk his life, and his friends. He knocks Luffy back, sending him running with more shots from his arm cannon. Growing more angry, he asks Luffy if he is willing to walk over his friend's corpses to achieve his dream before sending out a powerful blast.[26]

Z takes Luffy's straw hat.

Luffy and Z clash furious blows, with Z mocking Luffy telling him if he keeps being afraid of his Battle Smasher, he'll never land any hits on him. He strikes the ground, sending Luffy flying aways. He catches up and fires more bullets at Luffy that he deflects back at him. Luffy tells him his bullets will never harm him, until Z pulls out a small pistol and fires a bullet into his shoulder made from Seastone. Mocking Luffy further, he tells him the strongest people in the New World would have never have let themselves be hit with it and he relies too much on is Devil Fruit power. He takes Luffy's hat, promising to bury it himself once he has finished destroying the age of pirates.[26]

Luffy tries to grab it from him, telling Z the hat was given to him by Shanks. He grabs Luffy in his powerful grips and tells him Shanks, along with the rest of the Yonko will all die before they know what is happening. Luffy is enraged, screaming at him to not mock Shanks as Z blasts Luffy away. Zoro and the others find Luffy, and help carry him to safety as the deadly ash cloud rolls down the mountain.[26]

Usopp uses one of his Pop Greens to make a banana shaped boat they ride against the wind with. They are unable to escape and just as their deaths seemed imminent, Kuzan encases the magma and ash in a gigantic layer of ice giving them time to escape. Luffy and the Straw Hats board the sea train and flee, just before the island blows.[26]

The Straw Hats return to Dock Island, as Luffy is patched up and has the Seastone bullet removed. Kuzan appears before the crew again, telling Luffy to stop moping. Robin is shown terrified, but Luffy assures her it's alright. Kuzan tells them how Z was a former Admiral, and how he stole the Dyna Stones. He goes on to tell him his plan is to destroy the three Endpoints with the Dyna Stones to release the Grande Imbuto, killing all pirates and destroying the One Piece.[26]

Now that two of the Endpoints have been destroyed, Z is about to go to the last one, Piriodo, and unless the Straw Hats stop him, the Pirate Era will end. The Endpoints had been considered a legend, with most thinking it was nonsense. The government covered up the truth about them, to dissuade pirates from using it. That only the World Government and highest ranking officers of the Marines know about it. He laments that it is an Admiral abusing this knowledge above all else. He reminds them that he is not doing this out of power, but to punish pirates.[26]

Luffy and the Straw Hats head out to battle.

Luffy remains undeterred despite being defeated twice by Z, vowing to chase him down and get his hat back. If he lets Z keep his hat, he could never face Shanks or be worthy of the Pirate King title. Kuzan then gives the crew an Eternal Pose leading to Piriodo. If they lose to Z, they will be destroyed along with the New World. Or, if they win they will be attacked by the Marines. With that said he leaves them to their own fates.[26]

Luffy and the others suit up in new battle uniforms, brandishing two swords and a large stick of meat on his back. As they are leaving, Gari approaches Luffy telling him he wants to grow up to be a hero but cant decide whether he wants to be an Admiral or a pirate. Luffy flatly states pirates are not heroes. Sanji chimes in saying if both feel the same, then it's okay. Gari watches the Straw Hat Pirates leave, filled with admiration for him.[26]

Luffy victorious over the Neo Marines.

The Straw Hats intercept a blockade of Neo Marine warships guarding Piriodo. They blast through their defenses with the ship's main cannon. They land on the beaches with an army waiting for them. The Straw Hats begin fighting, using their new weapons to help. Luffy tries fighting with two sabers, but he quickly discards them shouting for Z to appear. Luffy finishes fighting off a large group of Neo Marines, as he had used his large meat stick as a club. Feeling tired, he eats the emergency food gaining his stamina back for the fight ahead.[26]

Meanwhile, Z himself is sitting in the mouth of the volcano surrounded by Dyna Stones placed to blow. After a swig of his wine, he stares eagerly at Luffy's straw hat awaiting his inevitable arrival. Luffy is shown fighting off more Neo Marines, trying to stop his advances. He uses his Haki, dodging multiple shots from cannons gradually getting closer.[26]

Luffy and Z fighting.

Luffy finally finds Z waiting for him inside the volcano. He discards his jacket, as the two engage in a furious battle. Luffy pounds away against his Battle Smasher arm, with Z calling his efforts useless. Their fight grows more intense, Luffy's shirt incinerating off him from Z's Smash Buster. He tells Luffy he cannot defeat his justice. Luffy unleashes his Gatling Gun punches, able to land a few brief hits on Z's body but he shows no sign of any harm.[26]

He compliments Luffy on having courage for a pirate, remarking he is far braver than the Marine. Luffy inflates his fist to Gear Third, using his Gigant Pistol move at Z. Z matches Luffy's hit with his Battle Smasher, both unable to push each other back. Z begins showing signs of fatigue, as the two rush and smash each others fists against one another as hard as they can. The force of the impact sends rippling shock waves along the volcano.[26]

The Straw Hats catch up to the battle, seeing Luffy had managed to leave an imprint of his fist inside Z's giant metal fist. Z asks him why he wants to fight him so much. That even if he defeats him, nobody will thank him for his efforts for the stigma of being a pirate. Luffy responds if he cannot defeat him, he will never be able to become the Pirate King. Z then discards his cracked Battle Smasher, revealing a smaller mechanical arm he can still use. Z tells Luffy he is going to dedicate his life to ending his ambition, challenging him for their final bout.[26]

Z and Luffy battle with their Haki.

Z and Luffy activate their Armament Haki, their arms turning a hardened black. The two engage in a brutal fist fight, both striking each other with imbued Haki. Kuzan is seen watching their match from a distance, stating "Black Arm" Zephyr has returned. Z and Luffy both give each other hard punches to the chest and stomach, giving Luffy a moment to recoil and puke. Luffy strikes back a punch that knocks Z's glasses right off.[26]

A brief flashback is seen in his mind of his early childhood, rattling his early memories. Z becomes elated, that he is being given such a good fight. Both Luffy and him are worn out, still pushing each other with punches back and forth. He corners Luffy and begins pounding on him, with Luffy showing little sign he can defend himself anymore. As Z begins to gain the upper hand, Luffy pushes him back with a kick.[26]

Fighting on their last reserves, Luffy shouts he is going to be the Pirate King with Z shouting his name in absolute confidence. After exchanging a few more blows to one another, Luffy finally collapses from exhaustion. Z falls to the ground after, unable to fight anymore too. Z bitterly says he's gotten old, and his body cannot keep up with him anymore. He finds it disappointing, telling Luffy he was enjoying fighting him.[26]

As the battle ends, the Straw Hats rush over to Luffy's aid, with Ain and Binz doing the same for Z. Z tells Luffy to finish him, but Luffy merely tells him he's already satisfied, giving him a smile. He offers to continue fighting him, if he wants but Z turns him down, also being satisfied.[26]

Kizaru then arrives with his army, telling them he is going to kill them all. Z says he's done everything he's wanted to do, and now will face the price for it as he marches towards the Marine army. He dismisses Luffy, and tells him to leave the rest to him. Ain tries to rush to his side, but Kuzan summons a giant wall of ice dividing everyone from him. Luffy silently looks on, honoring his sacrifice.[26]

The Straw Hats depart the island, watching the battle unfold in grim silence as Z gives up his life to save them. During the credits, it is revealed that after Z's defeat, the Straw Hats returned to Dock Island one last time, to return the gear and weapons Mobston had given them. They bid them farewell, and Gari decided to become a pirate, wearing Luffy's borrowed attired.[26]

Adventure of Nebulandia

The Straw Hats confront the Foxy Pirates again.

The Straw Hats spent a lazy day at sea in the New World, with Luffy eating some meat. Suddenly, the crew noticed a distress signal coming from nearby Mushroom Island, and when Sanji saw that the crewmembers appeared to be young women, he frantically led the Straw Hats there. However, the women turned out to be the Foxy Pirates in disguise, and Foxy confronted Luffy again. However, Luffy did not recognize him, causing Foxy to get depressed. Foxy showed Luffy how his crew grew in strength over the past two years, including the additions of former Marine Komei and expert shipwright Dojaku. Foxy then challenged Luffy to a Davy Back Fight, which the pirate quickly accepted.

The Davy Back Fight then began, and Luffy eagerly bought things from the various establishments set up by the Foxy Pirates. After the Davy Back Fight rituals concluded, the games commenced, starting with the Eating Contest. Luffy, Sanji, and Brook got ready to eat a large pile of mushrooms, which Luffy was excited about despite Chopper not being able to identify the mushrooms. Due to a complaint made by Komei, Brook was switched out with Zoro, and the Eating Contest then began. However, Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Porche, and Hamburg all collapsed, only to get up devoid of any motivation. Luffy did not even react to meat that Franky threw at him, shocking the Straw Hats.

Komei then revealed that this was all part of his plan, as an undercover Vice Admiral, to capture the Straw Hats. Dojaku, also a Marine, transforms the stage into a giant cage, and Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Porche, and Hamburg are brought up to the Sexy Foxy. Komei revealed that the competitors ate the Drowsy Mushroom, and the only antidote to it was the Rebound Mushroom. However, Robin stole the Rebound Mushroom from Dojaku and fed it to Luffy, who immediately regained his strength. Luffy bended the bars of the cage and told Zoro and Sanji to come on, but he was knocked onto the beach by Dojaku. Luffy then attempted to pull himself back onto the cage to rescue Zoro and Sanji, but Komei poured oil on his handhold, causing Luffy to slip and fly into the ocean. Usopp went to save Luffy, but everyone was immobilized after the Sexy Foxy reflected Foxy's Noro Noro beam, allowing Komei and Dojaku to escape with their prisoners. Komei taunted Luffy as he escaped, but left behind an Eternal Pose.

After they were freed from the Noro Noro beam, the Straw Hats made preparations to follow the Eternal Pose and save Zoro and Sanji. As they prepared to leave, Foxy came and laid prostrate before Luffy, begging the pirate to let him come and save Porche and Hamburg. Luffy grinned and accepted Foxy into the Sunny, although the rest of the Foxy Pirates stayed behind at the Straw Hats' request with Chopper and Brook, who were tasked to look for the Rebound Mushroom However, a Foxy Pirate named Kansho joined his captain in the mission.

The Straw Hats, Foxy, and Kansho followed the Eternal Pose as Luffy talked to Foxy, who told the Straw Hat about what he went through after their last encounter. Foxy gave Luffy a trinket of his head, which Luffy excitedly accepted. The Thousand Sunny then neared a rocky island, where they were intercepted by Marine battleships. However, with Foxy's help, they managed to escape the ambush and land on the island, which is called Nebulandia. Komei then broadcasted himself to Luffy and the others, saying he would give them until sunrise the next day to rescue Zoro and Sanji.

Luffy is caught by a plant that reacts to Devil Fruit users.

Luffy grew impatient and attacked the nearest rock formation, which contained a Marine outpost. However, he was stopped by a mysterious plant wrapping around his hands, which caused him to become weak. Luffy's crewmates struggled to keep him from flying into the Marine base and the Marines opened fire on them, although Franky managed to shield Luffy from the blast. Komei then told the pirates that during the attack he captured Robin, and revealed that Nebulandia contained many traps for Devil Fruit users. Luffy pressed his attack on the Marine outpost, but was trapped by the plant, which was revealed to be attracted to Devil Fruit users. The plant left Luffy a sitting duck as he was hit with cannon fire, sending him crashing to the ground. Franky, Usopp, and Kansho succeeded in bringing down the outpost, but the Straw Hats were still under attack by three outposts behind it,

Later, Franky reported to the Straw Hats that he discovered a hole where the outpost used to be that led underground. Luffy volunteered to go, but was told that there was seawater underground and so Usopp went in his stead. As night fell on Nebulandia, a seawater fog rose up that caused Luffy to become weak due to his Devil Fruit powers. Komei mocked Luffy for his weakness and revealed that Franky, Usopp, Brook, and Chopper were captured. The Vice Admiral told the pirates that he would be changing the game and bringing their captured comrades outside, so that Luffy could try to rescue them before sunrise. Luffy then pressed on to where his friends were, intent on going despite the fog rendering him barely able to stand.

Komei traps Luffy.

Luffy reached the clearing where his crewmates were tied up, and pressed on toward them despite them saying it was a trap. Suddenly, Luffy fell into a pitfall, and barely managed to hang onto the ledge. Komei confronted Luffy and knocked him into the hole, which contained seawater at the bottom. Luffy managed to stop himself before he fell into the seawater, but Komei used Haki to turn his fan into a long sword and forced Luffy into the water.

Luffy is shot.

Luffy was rescued by Nami, but had stopped breathing. Eventually, Foxy managed to resuscitate Luffy, but as Luffy leaped to rescue his friends, he was shot by Kansho, who was also an undercover Marine. With Luffy dead and his crewmates captured, Komei and the Marines celebrated their victory. However, Brook, Chopper, and the Foxy Pirates then arrived, having managed to trick Komei into believing they were captured. As the Straw Hats were freed, they tended to Luffy, trying to find any signs of life. Suddenly, Luffy stood up, revealing that the bullet had luckily hit the Foxy trinket. Kansho attempted to shoot Luffy again, but his shot was deflected by Usopp and he was defeated by Foxy.

Luffy defeats Komei with Gomu Gomu no Red Hawk.

As a battle broke out between the pirates and Marines, Luffy confronted Komei along with Nami. However, Komei broke one of the outer edges of the island, causing seawater to flood in. Luffy ordered Nami to gather everyone up as he took on Komei. The two duked it out, with Komei using his sword and a bazooka to drive Luffy into disadvantageous positions. However, before Komei could fire a finishing shot, Foxy slowed down the ball, telling Luffy to hit it repeatedly. Luffy did so, creating a hole in the basin that drained the seawater. Luffy mocked Komei for underestimating Foxy as the two battled again. Komei managed to drive Luffy back, but Kinoconda suddenly arrived, giving Luffy a foothold in the air. Luffy then sprung toward Komei and finished him off with Gomu Gomu no Red Hawk. Komei flew into the basin and his impact cracked the ground, and Luffy stood over his defeated foe.

The Straw Hats celebrate their victory.

The Straw Hats and Foxy Pirates had gone to the Thousand Sunny, and Luffy came to them with a smile on his face. They then departed for Mushroom Island, where Foxy held out his hand to Luffy to thank the pirate for fighting with him. However, Foxy used this as an opportunity to call off their truce and fire a Noro Noro beam at Luffy. Luffy was not affected by the beam, however, and it was revealed that he was an illusion created by Nami, who knew that Foxy would do that. After Nami electrocuted Foxy, the Straw Hats departed from the island and waved goodbye to the Foxy Pirates. Luffy and the other Straw Hats then had a banquet to celebrate their victory.

Punk Hazard Arc

Arriving at Punk Hazard

File:Straw Hats Encounter Vegapunk's Dragon.png

Robin, Zoro, Usopp, and Luffy encounter a dragon.

Soon the crew spots an island surrounded by a sea of flames. Luffy is excited to go there even though it seems dangerous to approach the island. The crew then hears a Den Den Mushi ringing and Luffy answers it ignoring Robin's warnings that it could be a trap set up by the Marines. Luffy then receives a call from someone who seems to be in trouble and supposedly resides on Punk Hazard. Luffy then decides to rescue the mysterious person. After Nami creates a road of clouds, Luffy goes to the island with Zoro, Usopp, and Robin. When they get there, they explore and find a massive skull that they determine to be larger than a giant's. Suddenly, they encounter a beast believed to be legend: a massive dragon. As Luffy and his companions are surprised, the dragon supposedly asks who they are.[27]

The group engages the dragon in battle. While fighting the dragon, Luffy discovers a pair of legs attached on top of it which is the source of the talking. Eventually, with a combined effort from Usopp and Luffy, Zoro manages to cleave off the dragon's head. Luffy then pulls the pair of legs off the dragon's head and the group is shocked that it does not have an upper body. The pair of legs then takes off in pursuit of a Shichibukai while Luffy excitedly asks the legs to join his crew.[28]

After the group cuts up and eats the dragon meat and takes the rest with them, they continue their expedition. Luffy decides to play with the legs, placing them on his back and pretending to be a centaur, even though the legs keep flipping him over. Zoro then draws the group's attention to a remarkable sight: a lake separating the flaming half of the island from a frozen, mountainous region on the other half. Usopp then sights a humanoid figure with wings.[29]

While Zoro, Usopp, and Robin receives a call from Brook, Luffy meets a centaur. Luffy then fights and defeats the centaur. A second centaur appears and attacks Luffy, but Robin subdues it. Luffy also nicknames the legs "Leggy". The group then decides to go to the frozen side of the island.[30]

Usopp creating a boat using his Pop Greens.

To cross the lake, Usopp forms a boat from Pop Greens. As Luffy's group rides on the boat, the centaur that Luffy had just fought jumps after them and informs his boss that the pirates are heading his way. The four Straw Hats then see a group of centaurs waiting for them on the other side. The centaurs then fire their bazookas at the water around the boat, capsizing it and leaving Usopp and Zoro keep Luffy and Robin afloat. Zoro moves to attack the centaurs, but is instead dragged underwater by sharks. The centaurs prepare to attack the Straw Hats again, but they are stopped by Brook, giving Luffy, Zoro, Robin, and Usopp enough time to escape the lake. After emerging from the freezing water, the four Straw Hats plan on stealing coats from the centaurs. After defeating them and stealing their coats, the group uses Brownbeard as transportation to Vegapunk's former research facility. They soon arrive at the scene where Trafalgar Law and Smoker just fought. Seeing Law, Luffy reacts in surprise and enjoyment. Luffy quickly thanks him for his help two years ago and asks him where "the talking bear" is. Law simply states that they are both pirates, reminding Luffy that they are rivals, and then tells Luffy to head to the backside of the facility. Right after Law goes back into the building, Luffy's group quickly leaves the scene to get away from the marines.[31] The group then meets up with their remaining crew members.

While taking shelter in a laboratory ruin, Luffy is saddened that he has to give back "Leggy" to the Samurai from Wano and is surprised to learn that Law became a Shichibukai. The Straw Hats then tie up Brownbeard and bring each other up to speed on the current situation. After interrogating Brownbeard, they learn about a man known as Caesar Clown. Kin'emon later leaves the group to find his torso and Sanji, Brook, and Zoro go out to find him. Before long, several of the giant children start to feel pain, saying that they need candy usually given to them in order to make the pain go away. However, Chopper states that the candy contains a drug that the children became addicted to and Luffy's group learns that the children have been experimented on. One of the giant children then hits Luffy and the others go on a rampage, forcing Usopp to put them to sleep. Luffy's group decide to help the children and find the man that Brownbeard calls his master. They then tie up the giant children so that they cannot destroy anything else. Luffy, Usopp, Franky, and Robin then leave Chopper and Nami to watch the children while they head to Caesar's lab. While they are gone, Luffy's group hears an explosion coming from the hideout and Luffy detects the presence of two animals. They quickly turn back to help Nami and Chopper. When they return, the Yeti Cool Brothers open fire on Luffy, and then disappear when Luffy tries to attack. It is then revealed that Nami (in Franky's body) has been captured.[32]

Luffy then sees that Brownbeard has been shot by the brothers and Luffy's group realize that Caesar is warped enough to turn on his own loyal subordinates. Luffy and Franky decide to go after the Yeti Cool Brothers to rescue Nami. Franky takes a Rumble Ball from Chopper and immediately uses it, ignoring Chopper's advice on how to use it. Franky transforms into Monster Point and goes on a rampage while chasing after Luffy. Luffy and Franky follow the giant footprints and fall into an ambush by Scotch and Rock. They first try to skewer Luffy with Icicle Pincushion. Luffy easily destroys the trap unharmed with an Haki-enhanced Gomu Gomu no Gatling Gun. Rock then fires some shots at Luffy. Luffy counters with Gomu Gomu no Thank You Fire, deflecting the bullets right back at Rock, dealing some damage to him. Scotch then fires a shot at a mountain top, causing a giant ice shard to start falling towards Luffy and Franky. Rock prepares to attack again, but Franky grabs the shard and knocks out Rock with it. Once Franky tries to attack Luffy again, Luffy knocks him out with Elephant Gun. Scotch then grabs Nami and attempts to make a run for it with Luffy chasing after him. Law arrives and cuts Scotch in half. Scotch tries to retaliate against Law only to be knocked out by Law's Counter Shock. As Luffy breaks Nami's chains, Law proposes to Luffy to form an alliance in order to take down one of the Yonko.[33]

Alliance with Law and Confrontation with Caesar Clown

Luffy accepts the offer much to Nami's protests. Luffy, Franky, Nami, and Law then return to the hideout. The rest of the Straw Hats are surprised that Luffy actually formed an alliance with Law. Law returns Franky and Chopper to their bodies while putting Nami in Sanji's body. Chopper scolds Luffy and Franky for causing damage to his body. The Straw Hats and Law then form a plan to capture Caesar while helping the children.[34]

Luffy grabs Caesar.

Luffy is later seen flying with Franky and Robin towards Caesar's lab. After crashing through a Marine warship, he prepares with the others to kidnap Caesar Clown. Tashigi (in Smoker's body) then confronts Luffy, but Luffy easily pins her down. Smoker (in Tashigi's body) steps in and fights Luffy himself. After learning that Smoker is not in his own body, Luffy laughs and tells him that they will fight another day. After Franky blasts the doors, Luffy and his group prepare to storm the facility. Before they enter, pieces of poisonous slime start falling from the sky. Caesar then appears outside of the facility and starts explaining about the slime creature, but is interrupted when Luffy grabs onto him.[35]

Luffy and Caesar subsequently engage into battle. Caesar uses Gas Robe on Luffy, and he inhales all of Caesar's poison gas. Luffy then expels the gas through his ears, much to the surprise of Caesar's subordinates. Luffy laughs at Caesar by saying that his poison does not work on him much thanks to an immunity he gained from his battle with Magellan. He attacks Caesar again, and just when he is about to land another blow to Caesar, Caesar attacks Luffy with Gas Tank, and Luffy gets caught in the explosion. After that, Luffy was trapped by Slime and was later dealt with another Gas Tank. Luffy evades the attacks and proceeds to deal a final blow to Caesar, momentarily defeating him. Before Luffy's group can complete their capture of Caesar, Luffy suddenly faints. As Robin and Franky wonder what happened to Luffy, Caesar laughs and says that Luffy underestimated him.[36]

Luffy is then seen lying unconscious alongside Robin, Franky, Smoker, and Tashigi, who were all knocked out by Caesar. He is then locked in the research facility with Robin, Franky, Smoker, Tashigi, and Law. When Vergo reveals himself to be working with Joker, Luffy asks Law who Joker is. Law tells him that Joker is Donquixote Doflamingo.[37]

While Clown is giving out his broadcast to the underworld brokers about his experiment with his chemical mass destruction weapon, Luffy and the other captives are just sitting passively in their cell. After Vergo is seen with Law's heart and inflicts pain on Law by using his heart, Luffy is surprised Law can still survive without his heart.[38]

After Smiley explodes and spreads a poisonous cloud, the prisoners witness the destructive effects of the gas as some of Caesar's subordinates succumb to it. Luffy then sees Sanji, Zoro, Kin'emon, and Brook all running away from the gas cloud. He then yells that they have to run and cannot die but is weakened by the seastone stone. Caesar Clown proceeds to move the captives outside of the facility to die.[39]

The counter attack begins.

Luffy then asks how Law plans to escape, watching as the Shichibukai begins his escape plan. Law directs Franky to launch his Franky Fireball at the segregated battleship down below. The wood is set alight and the smoke from the burning wreck then rises up to the cage, allowing them to discreetly take action. Law quickly reveals that he had replaced some of the sea stone handcuffs with regular ones, allowing him to escape easily and goes on to free Luffy and the others. Using Law's Devil Fruit powers, they are then moved into the laboratory where they open the shutters, allowing everyone outside to escape the poison gas. Seeing the remaining members of his crew arrive, Luffy gleefully claims the battle has really begun.[40]

When his crew are confronted by the G-5 Marines, Luffy asks if the fight has started. Law interrupts the marines and tells them of a way off the island, but they will have two hours to escape. When Luffy asks him what will happen, Law replies that he will do something dangerous. When the groups split up, Luffy decides to go after Caesar Clown once again. After Zoro hears about Luffy's earlier defeat at the hands of Caesar, he yells at Luffy, telling him not to be careless and reminds him that they are in the New World. Luffy agrees and proceeds to attack a group of Caesar's subordinates standing in his way. He later defeats Run the Machete with one strike and continues through the hallway to Passage B.[41]

Monet hugging Luffy.

Luffy and Smoker eventually pass through the B building and reach Caesar's location. Before entering the room that Caesar is in, Smoker tells Luffy that Vergo is his enemy. Luffy replies that he will get Caesar. Once they see the scientist, Luffy immediately gives him a punch. Luffy and Caesar fight for a while, and just when Luffy is gaining the upper hand, Monet steps in and interrupts him. She makes a barrier over Caesar, which Luffy breaks with Jet Gatling. Monet lets Caesar escape, and tells Luffy that if anything bad happens to him, Doflamingo will kill her. Luffy then asks "what" Doflamingo is (instead of asking "who" he is). Monet, however, simply locks him in a ten-layered snow hut and begins to weaken him with her powers. Luffy, however, simply blasts through the floor with a Jet Spear and falls into the basement. However, Monet tells him that unless he can fly, there is no way out of the basement.[42]

While exploring the garbage dump inside the basement, Luffy encounters yet another dragon and asks who is it. Surprisingly, the dragon replies back, asking the same question.[43]

Luffy meets Momonosuke.

The dragon then introduces himself as Momonosuke. However, Luffy thinks it is an eel and is surprised that it can talk. After Momonosuke points out he is not edible, Luffy introduces himself as the man who is going to become the Pirate King. Momonosuke does not believe him and starts telling Luffy about his perception of pirates, but Luffy interrupts him. Momonosuke then explains his back story, which includes him being taken to Punk Hazard, going to the secret room and eating a Devil Fruit which transformed him into a dragon. Luffy tells Momonosuke that he should just turn back into a human, but Momonosuke does not yet know how. Momonosuke then continues his story, where he overheard Caesar telling Monet that the children will die in five years and that he will get new ones then. He then finishes his story by telling Luffy about how he ended up in the garbage dump. Luffy becomes angry after learning how horrible Caesar is and he tells Momonosuke to hold unto him as he plans on climbing the wall to get out and rescue the children. Momonosuke then has an hallucination of Doflamingo's face and flies out of the basement with Luffy hanging onto him.[44]

Luffy breaks Caesar's face by punching him.

They later escape the garbage dump through a dust bin. Luffy then confronts three of Caesar Clown's underlings, demanding Caesar's location. The frightened underlings immediately tell him that Caesar is in Building R, straight along the corridor. Luffy then arrives at Building R just in time to save Brownbeard by knocking away Caesar with a Haki-imbued Gear Third attack. As Luffy prepares for a third confrontation, Caesar taunts him, telling Luffy that he will be in danger from both Doflamingo and a Yonko if he attacks him. Luffy then punches Caesar in the face, saying that he has been dealing with people like that since he entered the Grand Line. Caesar then warns Luffy again about the kind of people he is dealing with and attempts to retaliate with a gas-burner attack. Luffy dodges and punches Caesar in the face again.[45]

Caesar then forces his men in the control room to open the air vents, allowing his gaseous weapon to flow in. Caesar absorbs his weapon and grows bigger. He then kills more of his subordinates, angering Luffy further. Luffy asks Momonosuke to look after Brownbeard and then runs into a hallway to get some distance away from Caesar. Luffy enters Gear Third and charges at Caesar, angrily shouting that he does not want to see his face anymore. He attacks Caesar with Grizzly Magnum, not only sending him through the gate to the escape passage but also sending him flying outside of the lab. With Caesar out of the way, Luffy is then reunited with his crew and the kidnapped children. Luffy meets Law and Smoker again in the corridor between Building R and D. When Luffy tells Law that he sent Caesar flying, Law scolds him for not following the plan of capturing him.[46]

Chopper, Brook, Kin'emon, Mocha, and some of the G-5 Marines still have not arrived at Building R. Luffy waits patiently for them despite Law's urges to escape as soon as possible. Fortunately, the remaining group arrives safely before the gate to Building R seals off. Everyone boards the rail car and goes through the escape passage.[47]

The Straw Hat Pirates, Kin'emon, Smoker, and the G-5 Marines stand united.

While going through the escape passage, Luffy helps defend the cart from the falling rubble. When they finally reach the outside, they find Franky in his Franky Shogun after he was just fighting against Buffalo and Baby 5. As the pair attempt to flee with Caesar, Law prepares to stop them himself, but Usopp and Nami insisted to handle them themselves. Luffy encourages Law to give his crew a chance. After the defeat of Buffalo and Baby 5 and the successful capture of Caesar, Luffy smiles as Law declares the first stage of his plan complete.[48]

During the aftermath, Luffy had a friendly chat with Brownbeard, who decided to turn himself in to the Marines. Luffy was then surprised to see Kin'emon breaking to pieces and then reforming to his normal state. Luffy was also surprised to see Momonosuke return to his human form. Sanji made food for the father and son and Luffy was excited to see such delicious food. He tried to convince Momonosuke to eat, but the boy was hesitant at first. Momonosuke and Kin'emon eventually ate together and everyone gathered, drooling at the food. Law warned Luffy that it can not get out of hand and that they will to leave as soon as possible and Luffy agreed, but moments after, he declares the party started. Luffy enjoys the food with his crew and new friends.[49] As Tashigi and her men took the children away from Punk Hazard, Luffy left with his crew, Law, Kin'emon, and Momonosuke.[50]

They were later seen on a sea slope. After Nami informed him that their next destination was Dressrosa, Luffy told everyone to gather around so he and Law could explain their next plan. Luffy and everyone listened as Law explained about Doflamingo's connection to the underworld and the plan to decimate Kaido's forces. Luffy then asked Kin'emon if he has something to do on Dressrosa. The samurai replied that he has a comrade being held prisoner there.[51]

During the evening, Luffy was having fun fishing while wearing a samurai helmet and watching Zoro and Kin'emon fight each other.[52] The next morning, everyone read the news explaining Doflamingo's resignation from the Shichibukai. They also saw that the paper mentioned Luffy and Law's alliance as well as the alliance between Kid, Hawkins, and Apoo. Law told Luffy to disregard the other pirate alliance and only focus on their plan.[53]

Dressrosa Arc

The Next Objective

Law contacted Doflamingo to discuss the next part of the negotiation. Luffy suddenly interrupted the call and angrily asked Doflamingo if he is the boss of Caesar. Doflamingo stated his desire to see Luffy and informed the Straw Hat captain that he has something that he would want to get which Luffy thought it was meat. Luffy was then put into a trance until Usopp snapped him out of it. After Law told Doflamingo that he will bring Caesar to Green Bit, he and the Straw Hat planned on how to destroy the SMILE factory on Dressrosa. Luffy then got more excited to see Dressrosa and the crew have a big meal. While eating, Luffy heard Law and Kin'emon talking about a place called Zo. Luffy then listened to Kin'emon and Momonosuke's story about how they were shipwrecked and drifted to Dressrosa as well as how Momonosuke was separated from his father. After hearing about how Kanjuro helped Kin'emon escape, Luffy excitedly declared that they should save him too. The Thousand Sunny soon approached Dressrosa.[54]

Luffy and his group incognito.

After disembarking, the group began their next phase of their operation. Luffy thought about using Momonosuke, in his dragon form, to fly. However, Momonosuke refused to do so. When Luffy asked him if he is afraid of heights, they got into a small fight until Kin'emon broke them up. The group split into three teams and Luffy went into Dressrosa with Zoro, Sanji, Franky, and Kin'emon to destroy the factory and rescue Kanjuro. While exploring, they saw the things that the country is famous for including living toys. After getting disguises, they stopped at a restaurant to get something to eat. There, they found some thugs taking advantage of a blind man while taking away his money in roulette.[55] The man then demonstrated his gravity-like ability when the thugs attacked Luffy for calling their bluff.[56]

As the man left, Luffy asked who he was, only for the man to say it was better for both of them if he did not know. After one of Zoro's swords is stolen, he chased after the thief with Sanji and Kin'emon in tow. Luffy attempted to follow them for fun, but was stopped by Franky. Instead, they interrogated one of the thugs, who happened to be a subordinate of Doflamingo, for the location of the SMILEs factory. The thug claimed that he did not know anything about it. He then said that most of Doflamingo's crewmembers were at the colosseum where there was a tournament being held for a big prize. At first, Luffy thought it was meat, thinking back to his conversation with Doflamingo, only for the thug to inform them that the prize was actually Ace's former Devil Fruit.[57]

Corrida Colosseum

Luffy decided to compete for the fruit, not wanting just anyone to eat it. He offered the fruit to Franky, but he declined, not wanting to lose his ability to swim. Even though the initial objectives were to find the factory and Kanjuro, Franky felt Luffy deserved the chance to fight for the fruit. Luffy and Franky later arrived at Corrida Colosseum where they met a one-legged toy soldier called Thunder Soldier.[58] While Franky told Luffy that he could go full out in the tournament, it was best to keep his identity secret. He nearly gave himself away when he almost signed his own name, but thanks to Franky stopping him, he ended up signing in as "Lucy". He was then taken to the waiting room, where he met all the contestants. One of them called Spartan attacked Luffy, thinking he was a weakling. Much to the other contestants' surprise, Luffy easily defeated Spartan.[59]

One of the staff members of the colosseum was about to disqualify Luffy. Luckily, Sai and Boo from the Chinjao Family stepped in and spoke on Luffy's behalf, saying that Spartan was the one who started the fight. After thanking the Chinjao family for saving him from disqualification, Luffy learned that he has been assigned to Block C. Once he was inside the battle preparation room, Luffy got excited seeing all the armor and decided to put some on to make himself look cooler. While learning about the colosseum's weight restriction on protective gear, Luffy was greeted by Cavendish, captain of the Beautiful Pirates.[60] Luffy accidentally told him his own name, but the other contestants thought he was mispronouncing his alias "Lucy". Cavendish then proceed to tell Luffy his backstory such as how he came to resent the Eleven Supernovas, but Luffy ignored him during the middle of the conversation. He then sees a bronze statue of a man named Kyros. While admiring the statue, he met a female gladiator named Rebecca, who told him the story of Kyros. Luffy then sees that Rebecca was determined to win the Mera Mera no Mi to defeat Doflamingo. After Luffy and Rebecca finished their conversation, the winner of Block A was announced and Luffy was shocked to see that it was Jesus Burgess.[61]

Before Block B began, Luffy took a look at the warriors defeated by Burgess. He was then approached by Bellamy,[62] who told him that he also visited Skypiea. Bellamy said that his reason for joining the tournament was a chance to join Doflamingo's crew. He went on saying that he has no grudge against Luffy and that he would not laugh at him again.[63] Luffy then watched Block B with Cavendish. As the fights in Block B went on, Chinjao approached Luffy and asked him about Garp, revealing Luffy's identity to Cavendish in the process.[64]

Luffy and Cavendish fight the furious Chinjao.

Luffy kept denying his true identity, but Cavendish drew his sword, preparing to attack Luffy anyway. However, Chinjao made the first move, striking at Luffy with a headbutt. Right after Luffy dodged the attack, Cavendish tried to force Luffy to take off his fake beard. Chinjao then launched another attack, but Cavendish wards off the second headbutt with his sword. Chinjao continuously assaulted both Luffy and Cavendish with his headbutts until Luffy punched him into the ground. When Chinjao became very furious, Boo and Sai came to stop him. While the two managed to calm down Chinjao, Luffy hid himself by hanging from a window sill. Luffy continued to watch the match and witnessed Bartolomeo deflecting Hack's attack, which also damaged Hack's hand as well.[65]

As he continued to watch the battle in the arena, he was wondering how Bartolomeo was able to damage Hack like that. He then witnessed that even Bellamy could not stand up against Bartolomeo's strange power. He then cheered Bellamy on, urging him to give it his all. After that, King Elizabello finally threw his legendary "King Punch" which took out all the remaining gladiators in the arena. Even Luffy said that it was an incredible punch and that he had never seen anything like it. Before the King was declared the winner of B Block's "Battle Royale", Bartolomeo emerged unharmed and revealed that he had eaten the Bari Bari no Mi and had created a barrier to protect himself. He then took out the King and was declared the winner of Block B much to Luffy's surprise.[66]

As an injured Bellamy was moved out of the ring, he and Luffy had another friendly chat and commented on how the other had changed. Meanwhile, Bartolomeo overheard Bellamy calling him Straw Hat.[67]

Luffy defeats Hajrudin with a single punch.

When Block C started, Luffy entered the ring before Cavendish could confront him. When the gong was heard, Luffy was excited to start fighting.[68] As the battle royale went on, Luffy was seen defeating an opponent effortlessly.[69] Some time during the battle royale, Luffy tamed and befriended the Fighting Bull, naming him Ucy.[70] Luffy rode on top of him as he rampaged around the ring. The bull was eventually stopped and crushed by Hajrudin. Luffy then avenged Ucy by eliminating Hajrudin from the competition with a knock-out punch.[71]

Afterwards, Luffy removed Fighting Bull from the fighting area by carrying him over his right shoulder. When he was finished, Luffy entered the fight again only to have his helmet stolen by Jean Ango who heard a rumor that he was Straw Hat Luffy, forcing him to use his cape to hide his identity.[72] Jean Ango then threw multiple weapons at him, which Luffy was able to dodge with ease. The weapons aimed at Luffy hit Chinjao instead. Luffy then took back his helmet before Chinjao knocked the bounty hunter out of the ring. Seeing that Chinjao was hell bent on taking his grudge out on him, Luffy decided to fight him head on. Before clashing with Chinjao, he knocked out Sai while Chinjao knocked out Ideo. As the two remaining fighters in the battle royale, Luffy and Chinjao clashed their fists against each other, causing a large wave of Haoshoku Haki to burst throughout the arena.[73]

After Luffy declared his goal of becoming the Pirate King, Chinjao asked him who taught him Haki and Luffy answered that it was Rayleigh. Chinjao then bursts into tears, mentioning about a treasure he was not able to acquire. Luffy told Chinjao to stick to either crying or getting angry and then continued his clash with him.[74] After taking some punches from Chinjao,[75] Luffy struck back with a powerful attack of his own, hitting him in the chest with his Gomu Gomu no Hawk Rifle.[76]

Luffy defeats Chinjao and inadvertently restores his pointed head.

After recovering, Chinjao began mocking Luffy, telling him that those known as the Worst Generation are greenhorns who do not know anything of the world and saying that his attempts to surpass Roger are laughable. He then enraged Luffy by saying executing Ace was a smart move by the Marines. Luffy then proceeded to launch himself in the air with Gomu Gomu no Rocket using Chinjao as leverage. He then activated Gear Third and launched his Gomu Gomu no Thor Elephant Gun while Chinjao took the attack head on with a headbutt. The two collided, seemingly matched up until Luffy managed to gain the upper hand, which coincidentally restored Chinjao's head to the shape it was before his final battle with Garp. Chinjao was then knocked out and fell down to the arena, splitting it in half with his newly reformed head. Chinjao then sank into the water, unconscious, and Luffy officially won Block C. Luffy stood victorious as the audience cheered for him.[77]

Luffy speaks with Blackbeard.

After Luffy left the arena, Cavedish thrust his sword at him, but he caught the sword effortlessly and held on to it tightly. Chinjao arrived wanting to thank Luffy for restoring his head but accidentally broke the floor when trying to bow in respect. Luffy ran away from both Cavendish and Chinjao and was saved by Rebecca. He then ran into Burgess, who was communicating with Blackbeard through Den Den Mushi. Luffy declared that he will not allow Ace's power to fall into Blackbeard's hands. At the Gladiator's quarters, Rebecca bought him some food and sat next to him. Some gladiators behind prison bars caught Luffy and after some hesitation, she tried to kill him with her sword. Luffy dodged the attack and pinned her down. Rebecca asked him why he did not seek retribution. Luffy answered that he would not do anything to someone who bought him food. Rebecca then proceeded to tell him about the convict gladiators and how they were imprisoned in the colosseum for opposing Doflamingo. She said that she wanted to win the Mera Mera no Mi in order to be able to protect herself and not have to rely on the Thunder Soldier, who was planning an attack against Doflamingo.[78]

Rebecca then explained to Luffy about how the toys are no different from humans, how her mother died and Thunder Soldier was her guardian after her mother's death, which is why he is so important to her. The conversation was interrupted by Gatz announcing that the ring is repaired and Block D is about to commence. When Rebecca entered the arena, the audience booed and jeered at her. Luffy angrily wondered why and one of the convict gladiators informed him that Rebecca is the previous king's granddaughter.[79]

Having also been wrongly judged by Chinjao due to his relation to Garp, Luffy responded by saying that Rebecca has nothing to do with her grandfather, which the convict gladiators agreed. When Cavendish stood up for Rebecca and stopped the audience's booing and jeering, Luffy commented that while he still disliked Cavendish, he was not so bad.[80]

As he watched Rebecca's fights during the Block D battle royale, he commented that Rebecca can use Kenbunshoku Haki. He continued to cheer Rebecca on.[81] He later decided to move to a different place to watch the fight. Before leaving, he was told by the convict gladiators about the country's dark side that the public knew nothing about. As he exited the Gladiator's quarters, he encountered Bartolomeo.[82]

Invading the Palace

Bartolomeo guided Luffy to Zoro and Kin'emon, with the former being annoyed at the fact that he was not invited to fight in the colosseum. He then informs Luffy that the colosseum is surrounded by Marines, who quickly dismisses the fact besides Kin'emon's shock. They then engage in a conference call with Sanji and Franky's group. Everyone is then brought up to speed on the current situation as they learn about the true situation on Dressrosa. When Franky plead to Luffy to allow him to help the dwarves and toys, Luffy quickly gave his permission to assist with the revolution. Just as the call ends, a battle between Law and Doflamingo which raged across Dressrosa abruptly ended right outside the colosseum with Doflamingo standing above his opponent. Luffy cried out to Law in horror as Doflamingo shot him three times at close range.[83]

Luffy then angrily yelled at Doflamingo, who responded by saying that it was his duty to discipline Law. Zoro and Kin'emon rushed to save Law. Zoro was intercepted by Issho, the blind man they encountered earlier and Kin'emon was kicked away by Doflamingo before he could retrieve Law. Luffy tried to help his friends, but realized that the bars in the windows of the colosseum are made of Seastone. The entire crew was shocked to be told by Kin'emon that the blind gambler was actually an admiral.[84]

Both Doflamingo and Issho float above their opponents using their abilities, taking Law with them and head towards the palace. After the Marines started pursuing Zoro and Kin'emon, Zoro told Luffy to find the exit. As Luffy informed the two swordsmen that Law is still alive, they heard that the Sunny is under attack by the Big Mom Pirates, who are after Caesar Clown. During the commotion, Nami told Luffy that Law tried so hard to keep Caesar and Momonosuke away from Doflamingo and cannot allow them to fall into his hands. Luffy gave Sanji's group permission to head for Zo and also allowed Sanji to counterattack against the Big Mom Pirates. While leaving Franky's group in charge of destroying the SMILE factory, Luffy decided to head to the palace with Zoro and Kin'emon to rescue Law and fight Doflamingo.[84]

Luffy reacts upon seeing Sabo after twelve years of thinking he was dead.

While looking for an exit out of the colosseum, he found Bartolomeo carrying a wounded Bellamy. Luffy said that he was leaving the tournament since rescuing his friend comes first. Bartolomeo proudly declared that he will get the Mera Mera no Mi for him, but someone interrupted them and declared that the fruit could not be given to Luffy. Luffy then talked to this person and recognized him as his older brother Sabo, whom he believed to be dead.[85] Luffy began crying in happiness and disbelief and embraced his brother. Sabo was glad that Luffy was alive, and Luffy gave him permission to eat the Mera Mera no Mi at his request.[86] Before leaving, Luffy gave Sabo his gladiator costume so he can take his place in the tournament. Luffy later escaped the colosseum and met up with Zoro and Kin'emon. The trio wore disguises to elude the Marines. As they ran away from the colosseum, Luffy was still crying over the revelation that his brother was alive.[87]

Luffy, Zoro, and Kin'emon later arrived at the lift that leads to the royal palace alongside the dwarf, Wicca. There, they encountered Viola, who offered to guide them to the palace.[88] After getting acquainted with her and learning about her ties with the Riku Family, Luffy's group was then led to a secret passage. Once inside the passage, Zoro suggested that they use a basket used for lifting supplies and that Luffy should climb up carrying a rock and hang from the chain to act as a counterweight for the basket to move up. Luffy gladly accepted the suggestion.[89]

They later arrived at the palace rampart tower. Viola was about to sneak them in, but Luffy went ahead and smashed his way through the gate, much to her chagrin. After Luffy took off his disguise, the group charged in.[90] Once Luffy, Zoro, and Viola reached the Rampart Tower B-1, they were intercepted by Pica.[91]

After Viola explained about Pica's Devil Fruit ability, Pica attempted to crush Luffy and his group with the palace walls.[92] They managed to avoid it and Zoro held off Pica while Luffy and Viola rushed on ahead, though they were hampered by Pica's power to create dead ends. They eventually ran into Thunder Solder as he was about to be destroyed by Gladius. Luffy knocked away Gladius with a Jet Stamp and caught the toy soldier.[93]

Luffy was about to continue the fight with the officer, but Viola pulled him away, stating that Gladius was too dangerous. Gladius attacked the group, managing to wound Viola which forced Luffy to carry her. Seeing no stairs to advance further up, Luffy jumped out a window and used his leg to stretch to the second floor conveniently outside the Room of Suits. As they overheard Doflamingo trying to get Law to tell him what the Straw Hats' plan was, Luffy asked if he can attack Doflamingo, only to be denied and told to wait by Viola.[93]

They later saw Gladius and his men approaching the second floor. Thunder Soldier also spoke to Luffy about his realization that he and his crew were pirates but also commented that it was reassuring that they share the same goal.[94]

After Thunder Soldier transformed back into a human, Viola revealed to Luffy about Kyros and everything that happened in Dressrosa. After Kyros decapitated Doflamingo, Luffy grabbed Viola and charged in to save Law.[95]

While rushing to Law, Viola gave Luffy the keys to Law's cuffs. Law told Luffy that their alliance already ended, but Luffy ignored him. His rescue of Law was interrupted by Pica's sudden appearance. Luffy was then surprised to see Doflamingo still alive.[96]

It was then revealed that the Doflamingo that was decapitated was only a copy. As Kyros attempted to attack the copy again, the real Doflamingo appeared behind Kyros and attempted to behead him with a kick, slicing the palace in the process. Luffy managed to save Kyros from a fatal blow. Doflamingo and his copy then tried to attack both Luffy and Kyros but they jumped out of the way. Luffy retaliated by using Jet Gatling but Doflamingo blocked the attack. His copy then struck Luffy from behind and he followed by giving Luffy a punch to the face, knocking him back.[97]

Pica then threw Luffy, Law, Kyros, Viola, and Riku Dold III out of the palace. They watched as Doflamingo initiated his "bird cage" plan, trapping everyone on Dressrosa.[97]

The Birdcage

After Pica relocated the royal palace to the top of the Flower Hill, Doflamingo forced everyone imprisoned into a survival game and put a price on the heads of twelve people. Luffy and his crew were included in Doflamingo's hit list. After reuniting with Zoro, Luffy spoke to Rebecca through Den Den Mushi and informed her that the toy soldier was her father. He told her not to cry and stay close to Usopp, Robin, and Sabo. After declaring that he will defeat Doflamingo and end his game, Luffy grabbed Zoro and Law and pursued Doflamingo.[98]

Luffy jumped down from the King's Plateau and they landed in the middle of a crowd of enemies. After a brief scuffle with Senor Pink, Machvise, and Dellinger, the Dressrosa citizens started attacking Luffy and his group. Luffy was about to use Haki but Issho arrived to confront them. Pica then appeared as a massive stone giant, looking for Doflamingo's enemies. Luffy laughed at his voice, making him angry.[99]

Luffy, Zoro, Law, and their new allies are on their way for Doflamingo.

Pica then threw a punch which sent Luffy, Zoro, and Law flying to the square in front of the colosseum. They were soon approached by Cavendish, who explained that he had ceased his grudge against Luffy. Cavendish offered to defeat Doflamingo for Luffy, but the Straw Hat captain was adamant about defeating Doflamingo himself. They were then joined by those who also wished to fight Doflamingo: the Chinjao Family, Hajrudin, Elizabello II, Dagama, Abdullah, Jeet, Orlumbus, Ideo, Suleiman, and Blue Gilly. After the allied colosseum fighters fought off the former toys who are after Doflamingo's prize money, Luffy was reunited with Fighting Bull. Luffy and his allies then marched towards the royal palace and began to battle against Pica.[100]

When Pica attempted to strike Luffy and his allies, Chinjao and Elizabello II shattered Pica's stone hand, enabling Luffy to move forward. Pica then attacked with his other arm, causing Luffy's allies to fall back. However, Luffy, Zoro, Law, Abullah, Jeet, and Fighting Bull jumped on and climbed on Pica's arm. Pica regrew the arm that was shattered and prepared to attack Luffy again. Luffy responded by shattering Pica's stone head with Grizzly Magnum. Zoro discovered Pica's real body, which appeared in front of Luffy's group. Pica took out his sword and tried to attack the group riding on the Fighting Bull, but Luffy carried the bull and evaded the sword strike. Zoro intercepted Pica when he attempted to strike Luffy again. As the Fighting Bull ran on the stone giant's back, Law revealed to Luffy that the plan to defeat Kaido was a trick to get revenge on Doflamingo for killing Corazon, an former executive officer of the Donquixote Family, Doflamingo's brother, and Law's benefactor.[101]

Luffy, Law, Ucy, Abdullah, and Jeet eventually reached the first level of the new King's Plateau. While charging, Luffy repelled the Donquixote Pirates' troops standing in the way.[102]

After Luffy saw that the other colosseum fighters went ahead of them, Kelly Funk (while fused with Bobby Funk) appeared seemingly to aid them. Law asked Luffy what to do about his seastone handcuffs, but Luffy assured him that things will work out. Kelly then showed them a tunnel that is supposed to go directly to the fourth level. While entering the tunnel, Luffy and Law were shocked to see Abdullah and Jeet fell off. After leaving those two behind, Luffy and Law were contacted by Robin through Den Den Mushi. Robin informed them that she will meet them at the fourth level. Luffy, Law, and Fighting Bull later reached a dead end. While the bull stood on top of a pool of water, a string clone of Doflamingo appeared behind them.[103]

The clone attacked Fighting Bull with bullet thread, knocking him unconscious. As the bull collapsed, Law and Luffy fell into the water and became powerless. Before the clone could kill them, Abdullah and Jeet struck the clone from behind, destroying it. After recovering, Luffy punched a hole to the second level with Elephant Gun and carried Law with him as he moved ahead of the allied colosseum fighters. Cavendish approached Luffy and told him that he has a plan.[104]

Luffy and Law then rode on Cavendish's horse. During the fray, Kyros managed to hitch a ride on Farul as well. Luffy was happy to see him while Cavendish was displeased. Kyros was shocked when Luffy informed him that Rebecca was heading for the fourth level. Kyros reminded Luffy that Rebecca is on Doflamingo's hit list, but Luffy assured him that one of his crewmates was with her. When the other colosseum fighters banded together, they created an opening for Luffy, Kyros, and Cavendish to go through.[105]

As Farul charged towards the third level, Luffy continued to repel any Donquixote Pirates' troops along the way. Luffy, Law, Cavendish, and Kyros then briefly argued over who will be the one to defeat Doflamingo. Once they reached the third level, they found giant toy soldiers standing in their way.[106]

One of the toy soldiers bit Farul on the head until Luffy punched it away. With Farul gravely injured, Luffy and his group prepared to battle the toy army. Just then, Robin, Bartolomeo, and Gladius fell from the sky and landed in front of them. Robin and Bartolomeo held back Gladius and the toys to enable Luffy's group to continue towards the fourth level, where Rebecca would be waiting.[107]

Bartolomeo used his ability to create a stairway to the fourth level. Luffy thanked him, causing Bartolomeo to shed tears of joy. Kyros went ahead while Cavendish decided to remain on the third level to avenge his horse. As Luffy, while carrying Law, ran up towards to the fourth level, Gladius launched rupture bullets at him. Bartolomeo protected Luffy by jumping into the line of fire. Once Luffy and Law reached the fourth level, Rebecca quickly gave them the key to Law's handcuffs. After removing the handcuffs, Kyros told Luffy and Law to go ahead while he fights Diamante.[108]

Luffy then told Rebecca that he was glad that she could see her father again. Rebecca then asked him if he would really defeat Doflamingo, while still calling him "Lucy". Luffy answered that his name is not Lucy and told her his real name. Diamante tried to stop Luffy and Law, but Law teleported himself and Luffy to the palace pool garden. They were then approached by Sugar, who intended to turn them into toys. Just as she got close to them, Usopp sniped at her from the old King's Plateau and made her lose consciousness, saving both Luffy and Law. With Sugar out of the way, Luffy and Law finally reached Doflamingo.[109]

Confronting Doflamingo

Luffy hits Doflamingo with Red Hawk.

After seeing at how Doflamingo treated Bellamy like trash, Luffy was enraged. Law warned him not to let his emotions get the better of him. Luffy attacked Doflamingo with his foot, but he used Bellamy as a shield. Doflamingo then created another string clone to fight Law while controlling Bellamy to fight Luffy. Bellamy begged Luffy to stop him, but Luffy refused as he considered Bellamy a friend. Luffy then aimed an attack at Law. Law activated Room and used Shambles to switch places with Doflamingo, allowing Luffy to strike him with Red Hawk.[110]

Once Doflamingo recovered from Luffy's attack, he stopped Law from attacking Trebol and incapacitated him with Fulbright. He then struck Luffy with a Haki-imbued kick, tied his hands, and then have Bellamy slashed him. When both Luffy and Law are down, Doflamingo mentioned to them his past as a World Noble.[111] Doflamingo then sent his string clone and a controlled Bellamy to confront Luffy, and though Luffy attacked them with Octopus Gatling, the Doflamingo string clone got him from behind and slammed him through the floor into the palace interior. The Doflamingo clone spoke to Luffy about the cruelty of man, confusing Luffy.[112]

Luffy eventually managed to defeat the string clone, sending it flying through the roof with Jet Gatling. He then demanded Doflamingo to release Bellamy. Doflamingo decided to set Bellamy free and Luffy asked him to rest. He was about to go help Law, but Bellamy got up on his feet and continued on with the fight, refusing to betray his own principles and prepared to assault Luffy with his new and improved Spring Hopper.

Luffy yelled at Bellamy for siding with the man who betrayed him and said it wasn't worth fighting, but Bellamy ignored him and drove into Luffy using Spring Hopper, punching him with a Haki-imbued fist and causing Luffy to cough up blood.

In spite of Luffy's pleas to not fight, Bellamy refused to back down and Luffy eventually decided to finish their fight, knocking out Bellamy in the same manner as he did at Jaya. Luffy then yelled out Doflamingo's name in anguish.[113]

Luffy then returned to the palace rooftops and resumed his battle with Doflamingo. As they clashed, Luffy stumbled upon Law's body, which was covered in blood. When Luffy tried to speak to Law, he was unresponsive and Doflamingo stated that he was dead. Luffy refused to believe Doflamingo, who proceed to taunt Luffy by mocking Law's last words, stating he claimed that the Straw Hats could create miracles. Luffy screamed out in rage as Doflamingo prepared to end his game.[114]

Doflamingo then informed Luffy that his Birdcage is shrinking and in about one hour, it will destroy everything in Dressrosa. Luffy declared that he will stop it by defeating Doflamingo. As Luffy charged at his opponent, Law suddenly appeared in front of the latter and used Gamma Knife to damage Doflamingo's internal organs. Doflamingo grabbed onto Law's face, but Luffy kicked him away with Jet Stamp. As Doflamingo lied injured at Law's feet, Trebol attempted to attack Law only to be kicked away by Luffy. Law used Counter Shock on Doflamingo and collapsed from exhaustion. However, Doflamingo stood back up, revealing that he can use his string powers to fix his internal injuries. Doflamingo attempted to stomp on Law's head, but Luffy quickly intervened.[115]

Doflamingo and Luffy battled intensely using Busoshoku and Haoshoku Haki. Though Luffy's first attacks were blocked, he managed to exploit an opening and punch Doflamingo repeatedly, ending with Gomu Gomu no Eagle Bazooka. However, Doflamingo evaded the Eagle Bazooka and kicked Luffy using Athlete's Thread, sending Luffy crashing into the ground, right into Trebol's trap. Trebol held Luffy down so that Doflamingo could finish off Law once and for all. Luffy got mad at the executive and attempted to hit him with a Busoshoku Haki-imbued fist. However, the attack had no effect, despite Luffy thinking Trebol was a Logia. Law then told Luffy to stop attacking Trebol, and Trebol left a trapped Luffy to go to Law. Luffy witnessed Law wounding Trebol and was caught in the explosion Trebol created.[116]

Luffy saves Law from Trebol's explosion.

However, Luffy managed to escape the explosion and carried Law with him. Luffy then threw Law down towards Robin and her group on the Flower Field, telling them to help Law. Not willing to let Law get away, Doflamingo shot at Robin with Tamaito, despite Luffy kicking him with Gomu Gomu no Hawk Whip. However, Doflamingo's bullet was deflected by Cavendish. Luffy then told him to take Law and the others out of the Flower Field. Cavendish initially refused, but Luffy told him that he entrusted their lives to him, making Cavendish think that Luffy was his fan. Luffy then resumed his battle against Doflamingo, and hit the Shichibukai with Busoshoku Haki-imbued fists, sending him flying off the roof. However, Doflamingo laughed it off, saying that Luffy's attacks were quick but lacked power. He then attacked Luffy with Overheat, sending Luffy flying. Doflamingo mentioned to Luffy how he had followed the young pirate's career before kicking Luffy into the palace wall, causing a large chunk of it to fall away. However, Luffy quickly got back up and continued fighting, attacking with Gomu Gomu no Grizzly Magnum. Doflamingo easily avoided his attack and exploited the opening it left, kicking Luffy into the ground. Doflamingo then taunted Luffy about the shrinking Birdcage and how it would kill all his friends, all because the Straw Hats stepped foot on Dressrosa. Luffy became enraged at Doflamingo for hurting his friends and prepared to activate Gear Fourth.[117]

File:Luffy Activates Gear Fourth.png

Luffy activated Busoshoku Haki in his left arm and blew into it, inflating the muscles and exponentially increasing his arm's size. He continued blowing until Boundman was activated. In this form, Luffy's entire torso became massive and he could only bounce, not stand. Doflamingo mocked his form, but Luffy revealed that he had subdued beasts with this form. Luffy then sunk his arm into his body and hit Doflamingo with Gomu Gomu no Kong Gun, which sent Doflamingo flying far away into the streets. Luffy then sunk his legs into his body and flew toward Doflamingo. With precision, Luffy speedily maneuvered behind Doflamingo and dropkicked the Shichibukai using Gomu Gomu no Rhino Schneider, sending Doflamingo crashing through several buildings. An enraged Doflamingo then flew up to the sky and Luffy rose to meet him, attacking Doflamingo with Gomu Gomu no Culverin Cannon. However, Doflamingo managed to avoid the attack and kicked Luffy with Athlete. However, Luffy's rubber managed to absorb the blunt attack despite being covered in Busoshoku Haki, and Luffy shook Doflamingo off. Luffy then used Culverin Cannon again, but this time he changed its direction several times to follow Doflamingo, and eventually succeeded in punching Doflamingo in the face.[118]

Luffy then flew toward Doflamingo, knowing that Gear Fourth was about to end. He attacked Doflamingo with both fists, but Doflamingo countered by summoning strings from the ground. Doflamingo revealed his Devil Fruit awakening powers to Luffy, shocking the Straw Hat, who wondered if Doflamingo was even a Paramecia anymore.[119]

Twenty minutes later, Luffy continued battling against Doflamingo's strings as he listened to Riku's speech to the citizens of Dressrosa. Doflamingo turned much of the town into string to attack Luffy, but Luffy evaded the string, pulling his head and arms into his body as he attacked Doflamingo with Gomu Gomu no Leo Bazooka, sending the Shichibukai crashing into the palace mountain.[120]

Luffy noticed that the Birdcage remained active, meaning that Doflamingo was not utterly defeated. Luffy quickly flew to the palace mountain and attempted to finish Doflamingo off. However, before he could reach him, his Gear Fourth wore off and he was completely exhausted. Gatz arrived and helped Luffy up and revealed that all the gladiators from the colosseum were there to aid Luffy. Luffy asked Gatz to give him 10 minutes to recover and Gatz proceeded to take Luffy to safety. They were then attacked by Burgess but were saved when Sabo kicked Burgess away.[121]

Luffy intercepts Rebecca's unwilling attack.

With Sabo holding Burgess back, Luffy assured him that he will defeat Doflamingo once his Haki recharges. Sabo then entrusted Gatz to Luffy's safety.[122] As Gatz ran away with Luffy, Law suddenly used Room to teleport to their location. With three minutes left for Luffy to recharge, Law took over protecting him. Luffy then lay on the ground near Law as his Haki regenerated.[123] Eventually, Luffy's Haki fully recharged, and with the help of Law and his Shambles, Luffy prevented Rebecca from being forced to cut down Viola and confronted Doflamingo once more.[124]

Doflamingo attacked both Luffy and Rebecca with his strings, but Law saved Rebecca, so he turned his attention solely to Luffy. Doflamingo then turned an entire portion of the town into string to attack Luffy with a thousand "Flap Thread" string arrows.

Doflamingo immobilized Luffy and taunted him by saying that all the slaughter could have been avoided had the people of Dressrosa just accepted their manipulation. This enraged Luffy to the point where he instantly reactivated Gear Fourth and broke the strings holding him, taking the remainder of the fight into the skies above.

Luffy finishes off Doflamingo with King Kong Gun.

After once again saying Luffy stood no chance against him due to his "commoner's blood", Doflamingo attempted to trap him in his Spider's Net. As Luffy enlarged his right arm and readied his final attack, Doflamingo unleashed 16 Godthreads in a last ditch effort to kill Luffy. Despite this, Luffy's King Kong Gun broke through and slammed him into the ground, destroying several buildings and shattering his trademark sunglasses.[125]

This time, Luffy's attack successfully defeated Doflamingo and the Birdcage collapsed. While still in mid-air, Luffy deflated and started falling. Law saved him by instantly teleporting him to the ground. Having passed out from injury and exhaustion, Luffy's head was placed onto Rebecca's lap as the latter began to cry in happiness.[126]

After Doflamingo's Defeat

Luffy and his crewmates rest at Kyros' house.

After Doflamingo's downfall, Luffy and his group went to the palace, but later went to Kyros' old house to rest and recover.[127] Three days after Doflamingo's defeat, Luffy continued his recovery as he heard about the rumor about Rebecca's father. He was not pleased with the rumor even after Kyros explained that he started it. Bartolomeo then entered the house, revealing that the Marines were mobilized to pursue the Straw Hats. He also explained that he and the other gladiators planned an escape route for them. Luffy then ran out of the house with the others, but suddenly stayed behind, saying that he still had something left to do.[128]

Zoro then told Luffy to hurry with his business and they will be waiting for him at the eastern port. Luffy then dashed to the royal palace and called out Rebecca. Once Luffy found Rebecca, he asked her if she was okay with Kyros leaving her. Rebecca answered "no" and Luffy offered to take her to him. Luffy then took Rebecca and made his way to the hill where Kyros' house is located. After dropping off Rebecca there, Luffy ran towards the eastern port.[129]

Luffy reached the eastern port just when Issho was about to attack his allies with the all the rubble from Dressrosa. Luffy then attacked the Admiral with a Haki-imbued Gear Third attack, pushing him back. Luffy declared that he grew tired of running away from an Admiral and prepared for a fight.[130]

File:Luffy Punches Fujitora.png

Luffy punches Fujitora.

As they clashed, Luffy announced every single one of his attacks and where he was aiming before striking. Fujitora wondered if Luffy was taking pity on him due to his blindness. Luffy declared that he would not attack without saying anything, given that his opponent was blind. Fujitora laughed, explaining that they were supposed to be sworn enemies and no one is supposed to fight an admiral like that. Annoyed and slightly angered, Fujitora blew Luffy with his gravity ability. Hajrudin caught Luffy and the Straw Hats, Law, and Luffy's other allies quickly fled across a bridge leading to a gigantic ship in the distance. As Fujitora prepared to bombard the all the nearby ships with floating rubble, the citizens of Dressrossa arrived to "chase" after the pirates. Not wishing to harm the citizens, Fujitora halted his attack, allowing his targets to get away.

Luffy and his allies eventually reached Orlumbus' flagship, the Yonta Maria. After boarding the ship, the following pledged their allegiance to Luffy: Cavendish of the Beautiful Pirates (including Suleiman), Bartolomeo of the Barto Club, Sai of the Happo Navy, Ideo of the XXX Gym Martial Arts Alliance (including Blue Gilly, Abdullah, and Jeet), Leo of the Tontatta Tribe, Hajrudin of the Giant Warrior Pirates, and Orlumbus of the Yonta Maria Grand Fleet.[131]

The newly-formed Straw Hat Pirates Grand Fleet celebrates their victory over the Donquixote Family.

When Luffy was asked to drink a sake cup to complete the agreement for an alliance, Luffy declined, much to the others' shock. He did not wish to become someone great and powerful, but someone who is free, as well as not take away the freedom from his fellow allies. Once Luffy explained that they can do whatever they want, the allies decided to forge the alliance anyway, forming the Straw Hat fleet. To Luffy's surprise, Sai, Bartolomeo, Leo, Cavendish, Ideo, Orlumbus, and Hajrudin sat down and drank their sake cups, and Zoro ended up drinking the rest of the sake in what was supposed to be Luffy's cup. Afterwards, they held a feast to celebrate their victory over Doflamingo. As the group left Dressrosa, a multitude of pirates who had suffered great blows to their business ventures because of Doflamingo's defeat came after the Yonta Maria Grand Fleet, seeking to bring down Luffy. However, Fujitora dropped the rubble from Dressrosa on the enemy ships as a final thanks to Luffy for what he had done in the kingdom, while Kyros and Rebecca watched from afar and officially began their new life as a family together.[17]

After the feast, each of the leading allies received Luffy's vivre card and parted ways. Bartolomeo then brought the Straw Hats, the samurais, and Law to his ship, the Going Luffy-senpai. After Zoro noticed the Straw Hats' increase in bounty from a newspaper, Bartolomeo proudly showed Luffy's group their new wanted posters.[132]

Silver Mine Arc

As night fell during the voyage to Zou, Luffy got up to eat something, with Bartolomeo following him. He then saw a giant piece of meat flying over him and grabbed onto it, pulling him and Bartolomeo onto a platoon of Battle Boats commandeered by the Sweet Pirates, which took him and Bartolomeo to Silver Mine.[133]

Luffy is saved from execution by Bartolomeo.

Luffy's entire body except his head was encased in a silver ball, and he was put in a prison cell. Desire and the Sweet Pirates came to visit him, and Luffy managed to convince her to give him some of her chocolate. The Sweet Pirates then took Luffy out to an auditorium where the Silver Pirate Alliance gathered, and their leader Bill prepared to kill him. However, Bartolomeo arrived to protect Luffy, although the two were cornered by the Silver Pirate Alliance. However, Luffy made a charge, rolling over the enemy pirates. However, the energy Desire's chocolate bar gave him wore off, and he rolled back down the stage into the opposite exit, taking him and Bartolomeo outside.[133]

File:Luffy Defeats Aveyron.png

Luffy defeats Aveyron.

Luffy and Bartolomeo were pursued by the Sweet Pirates, but Desire accidentally created a chasm which Luffy, Bartolomeo, and she fell into.[133] The trio emerged alive, but they were pursued and attacked by Bill's subordinate Aveyron. Bartolomeo and Desire rolled Luffy's ball down the mine tracks, but the trio accidentally rolled into a large chasm. Down below, they encountered a group of miners who revealed that they were enslaved by Bill due to not being useful. The miners tried to free Luffy, but failed. Aveyron then arrived at the mining colony and fought Desire, who accidentally deflected one of his bombs into Luffy's group. The explosion sent Luffy rolling into the train tracks, where Aveyron stabbed at him with a spinning drill. However, Aveyron missed Luffy's body, and the force of his attack shattered the silver ball, freeing Luffy. Aveyron attacked Luffy with cannonballs, but Luffy deflected them back. Luffy and Bartolomeo pursued Aveyron into a tunnel, and kept up the chase despite Aveyron making sudden turns. Luffy unsuccessfully attacked Aveyron, but Bartolomeo used his barriers to send Aveyron flying off the track, allowing Luffy to fly over and defeat him. Luffy then returned to the mining colony and prepared to escape.[134]

Luffy, Bartolomeo, Desire, and the miners went up a train track leading outside, but they were attacked by Peseta and his men, who destroyed the track. Luffy cushioned the group's fall with Gomu Gomu no Fusen, and the group renewed their escape on Bartolomeo's barrier staircase, barely escaping Peseta's cannonballs. Silver Pirate Alliance members then appeared at the exit and poured molten ore down the staircase, but Kin'emon suddenly appeared and cut through the ore, allowing Luffy to punch the pirates away and clear the path to freedom. Outside, the pirates and miners were confronted by Peseta again, but Zoro arrived and took him on. When Peseta mocked Zoro, Bartolomeo attempted to attack him, but Luffy held him back, saying this was Zoro's fight. Zoro defeated Peseta, and the Straw Hats and Barto Club prepared to leave the island, but Bill cut off Luffy and Bartolomeo's path. Luffy decided to stay behind on the island and confront Bill along with Bartolomeo and Desire.[135]

Luffy suddenly rushed in and attacked Bill as the latter was taunting Desire, and he easily overwhelmed Bill despite the latter pulling out weapons. Some Silver Pirate Alliance members then arrived, and Bill ordered them to attack Luffy and his allies, but Luffy knocked them all out with a blast of Haoshoku Haki. Luffy then attacked Bill again and sent him flying into the underground mine. Luffy, Bartolomeo, and Desire prepared to leave Silver Mine, but Bill suddenly returned, now giant sized and exuding waves of molten ore due to eating a lot of ore. The trio struggled to navigate through the encroaching flow of molten ore, but Bartolomeo managed to push it back onto Bill, causing him to be coated in silver. As Bill prepared to attack the trio, Luffy hit him with Gomu Gomu no Grizzly Magnum, causing him to fly into the fortress. Luffy, Bartolomeo, and Desire then escaped Silver Mine as it sank, and returned to the Going Luffy-senpai as they prepared to head for Zou.[136]

Heart of Gold

The Straw Hats meet a girl named Olga.

Luffy, Usopp, Chopper, and Brook were fishing in a wintry sea, and they saw a seemingly unconscious girl named Myskina Olga riding on a water lizard named Elizabeth. Luffy fished the two of them out of the water, and tried talking to Olgs. However, Olga stopped her ruse as she grabbed hold of Luffy and held him hostage in order to get food and water. However, Luffy and the Straw Hats failed to take Olga seriously, and she was fed. The Straw Hats talked to Olga, who revealed where she was from as well as the existence of the treasure Pure Gold, which they got excited about and agreed to help her find.[137]

The Straw Hats were then attacked by Mad Treasure and his crew, who were also after Olga and the Pure Gold. The Straw Hats battled Treasure's men and defended Olga, but during the battle Olga's ring slipped off her finger. This caused a giant fish named Bonbori to arrive and consume the ring, and the Straw Hats attempted to escape from it, but turned around into its mouth after Olga revealed that the Pure Gold was inside it. Treasure's crew followed them into Bonbori and rammed their ship into the Sunny, causing it to nearly hit its uvula. However, Luffy ballooned himself and cushioned the Sunny's impact. As he reached to get back on the Sunny, he was hit by one of Naomi Drunk's arrows, sending him spiraling into the water below. Olga rode Elizabeth to rescue Luffy, and the three of them fell down Bonbori's throat.[137]

Treasure binds Luffy and captures Olga.

Luffy woke up on an island inside Bonbori's first stomach, and Olga revealed what Bonbori's insides contained. They were then attacked by a pack of dinosaurs, but Luffy drove them away by knocking the leader out, and he and Olga ate the leader. Olga revealed her true age and why she lived in Bonbori, shocking Luffy. The two of them were suddenly attacked by Mad Treasure, and Luffy briefly brawled with him. However, Treasure revealed that he had captured Nami, Usopp, Chopper, Robin, and Brook, and tied Luffy up with his chain ability. Treasure then captured Olga, and left Luffy on the coast to be dissolved once the tide of stomach acid reached his location.[137]

Right as the acid tide reached Luffy, he was suddenly snatched away by a dinosaur, who took him to a cave to feed its young. However, Luffy escaped from the dinosaur, and he met a man who was posing as a young dinosaur. The man revealed himself to be Olga's father, Myskina Acier, and Luffy revealed that Olga was alive and that Treasure had captured her. Luffy and Acier went to work building a ship to get to Alchemi, but Luffy saw a water lizard nearby and wanted to use him. Luffy had to tame it by causing it to laugh, but failed, although Acier managed to succeed. Luffy named the water lizard Chavez as they set off into the sea of acid.[137]

Luffy confronts people disguised as his crewmates.

The trio crossed into Bonbori's second stomach, but the acids inside were too strong for Chavez to handle. While Acier tended to Chavez, Luffy confronted three men poorly disguised as Zoro, Sanji, and Franky. He eventually managed to see through their ruse and defeated them, causing Mad Treasure's subordinate Psycho P to reveal himself. Psycho P disguised more of his men as Luffy's crewmates, but Luffy took down all of them. Psycho P then disguised his men as Acier, and Luffy could not tell them apart from the real one. Unable to just attack all of them, Luffy found the real Acier by having him make his "smug face", and took down all the fakes, causing Psycho P to retreat. Luffy later met the real Zoro, Sanji, and Franky, and Zoro and Sanji accompanied him and Acier as they set off to Alchemi.[137]

The four of them arrived on Alchemi, and Luffy pulled him and Acier straight into an underground mine containing the Pure Gold while Zoro and Sanji battled Treasure's forces outside. Luffy reached Treasure, Olga, and his imprisoned crewmates at the Final Gate, saving his crewmates from being crushed. Acier then opened a trapdoor underneath the Straw Hats and Olga, and they found themselves inside his old lab. They then discovered the Pure Gold, but were forced to escape the mine as Acier blew it up.[137]

Luffy defeats Mad Treasure.

Treasure and a captive Acier followed them out, and Treasure claimed the Pure Gold. However, Luffy confronted Treasure over his ideologies and him capturing his crewmates, and the two battled again. Despite Treasure covering himself in a chain armor, Luffy managed to overpower him by combining Gear Second and Gear Third, sending him crashing into the wall of Bonbori's stomach and causing the Pure Gold to fall into the acid below. The Straw Hats and the Myskina family then escaped Bonbori on the Sunny as the giant fish vomited them out. Back at sea, they saw Bonbori's esca glow brighter due to absorbing the Pure Gold. The next morning, the Straw Hats dropped Olga, Acier, Elizabeth, and Chavez onto an island, and they were disappointed at their failure to get the Pure Gold. However, Nami revealed that she stole a vivre card leading to the entertainment city Gran Tesoro, and the Straw Hats excitedly headed there.[137]

One Piece Film: Gold Episode 0

On the Thousand Sunny, the Straw Hats were having a barbecue. After a volleyball game between Nami and Chopper versus Robin and Franky, the Straw Hats began talking about what they will once they reach Gran Tesoro. When Usopp heard Nami was going to bet in the casino, he became concerned, so he suggested hosting a show incase betting failed. Usopp demonstrated his show with Luffy, having him play as Kintaro Yokozuna and Usopp portrayed a rabbit that played with Kintaro Luffy, along with Chopper, Franky, and Brook. Both Luffy and Usopp were participating in sumo wrestling matches to see who would become the Yokozuna, but were not taken seriously. Franky then challenged Luffy and requested that they both use their brute strength. After a long and fierce match between, Luffy and Franky decided to use their signature attacks, but Nami interrupted and punched the two because they could have destroyed the ship. Doing this, Nami was crowned Yokozuna, but she declined. Moments later, the Straw Hats approached the City of Dreams.[138]

One Piece Film: Gold

The Straw Hats sailed into Gran Tesoro, where they were showered with gold dust at the entrance. They emerged into a harbor filled with liquid gold that was also a concert venue. However, they were suddenly attacked by the Long Long Pirates, who sought to rob them in order to pay off their debt. Luffy confronted the captain, Long Long, and wrapped his arm around the Thousand Sunny's mast. He then released himself and spun around the mast, and Long Long shot at him with a bazooka. However, Luffy's rubbery body shot the bullets back, and Luffy flew at Long Long, smashing him through the ship and defeating him with Gomu Gomu no Jet Pistol. The Straw Hats then watched as the proprietor of Gran Tesoro, Gild Tesoro, encased the remaining pirates in gold.[139]

The Straw Hats docked, and were approached by Baccarat, who offered them a VIP vacation at Gran Tesoro due to their fame. Baccarat drove them through Gran Tesoro on a turtle car, and took them to the VIP hotel at the heart of Gran Tesoro. The Straw Hats donned new outfits and were ready to enjoy their vacation, although they were approached by a group of children selling flowers in order to repay their debts. Baccarat then took the Straw Hats to the casino, and gave them Beli.png20,000,000 worth in casino chips. Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper immediately entered a turtle car race, and they managed to keep steady during the first part. However, as they drew near to the lead, the Whitejack's assistant, Kiruko, sprayed a liquid onto the track, causing them to skid and stop. The Straw Hats resumed driving, and approached Kent Beef Jr.'s car, but Pork threw a bale of hay at them, causing them to lose their vision and drive off the track onto a golf course. As they skidded around, Luffy managed to pull the car back onto the track with Gomu Gomu no Rocket, close to the remaining competitors. They then managed to narrowly beat the other racers across the finish line and win.[139]

The Straw Hats continued getting lucky in casino games, and Baccarat took them to the VIP lounge, where they had the chance to become millionaires. The Straw Hats played a dice game hosted by Dice and won, and Gild Tesoro suddenly appeared and challenged the Straw Hats to a game. Luffy accepted, and Baccarat touched him on the shoulder, which unbeknownst to him took away his luck. Luffy lost the game, and Tesoro asked for the Straw Hats' money. However, Baccarat's deception was revealed, and the Straw Hats refused, causing Tesoro and his men to retaliate with force. With his luck removed, a series of unfortunate events plagued Luffy, preventing him from fighting. Tesoro managed to capture Zoro, and gave the Straw Hats until 12:00 the next night to repay their debt, or else he would kill Zoro.[139]

The Straw Hats left the hotel, and ran into an old acquaintance of Nami's named Carina. They and Carina went to a diner to eat, and Carina revealed to them that a large amount of money was kept in a room in the hotel, which the Straw Hats could steal to repay their debt. The Straw Hats agreed to this plan, and witnessed some of Tesoro's men harass two children, whom no one was able to stop. They then slept in a hotel room and donned disguises before their mission began.[139]

The group congregated outside the hotel, where Carina revealed the plan. Luffy and Franky would sneak into the hotel and go to the room containing a Host Den Den Mushi. They would then disconnect the Host from several Eizo Den Den Mushi overseeing the staircase to the room containing the treasure, which would allow Carina and the other Straw Hats to enter the room undetected. Luffy and Franky then scaled the hotel exterior by climbing on plungers that Franky had shot out of his shoulder. However, while they were very high up, the plunger they were grabbing on lost its grip, causing them to fall. Franky managed to grab Luffy and propel the two of them up with Coup de Boo, and they reached the giant clock near the top of the hotel. They entered the inside of the clock, and went into the air vents. Eventually, they were right above the Host Den Den Mushi room, and Luffy stretched down to grab a pipe that connected the Host to the Eizo Den Den Mushi. However, he lost his grip on the vent above and fell, causing him to be noticed by security. As Luffy and Franky battled the security guards, Tesoro and Tanaka arrived. After Tesoro brought Franky down, Luffy engaged him in battle, but Tesoro encased Luffy's arms in gold and blocked all of his attacks with gold. However, Luffy refused to bend to Tesoro's will, and an angry Tesoro gave him the chance to continue entertaining him. Tanaka then opened a giant hole underneath Luffy and Franky, sending them falling a long distance.[139]

Luffy and Franky fell into a massive golden chamber, where they met prisoners that had no food or drink. They then met the former Revolutionary, Raise Max, who revealed that the only way out of the chamber was through a pipe system, which led to a room containing a seawater tank that Luffy could use to wash away the gold encasing his arms. However, Max warned them that the room was nearly impossible to reach, but Luffy decided to go there since he had nothing to lose, and Max and the other prisoners reluctantly tagged along. They traveled through the pipes and battled bats, until they reached a vertical pipe with a rapidly spinning fan down below. Max tried convincing Luffy to go back, but Luffy kept pressing on and jumped into the fan. The fan batted Luffy around and injured him, forcing him to be rescued. However, after seeing Luffy's resolve, Max took it upon himself to stop the fan, and together with the other prisoners, they managed to stop the fan. Luffy, Franky, and the prisoners then reached the room with the seawater tank, and they opened a hole in it, allowing Luffy to wash the gold off his arms. However, Tesoro intended for them to reach the room as a trap, and he filled the room with seawater to drown them.[139]

However, Tesoro's plot was all a part of a larger plan by Carina, who directed the seawater out of Gran Tesoro's fountains, freeing everyone on Gran Tesoro from Tesoro's control. Luffy, Franky, and the prisoners emerged from the fountains, and Luffy and Franky reunited with the rest of their crew. Tesoro then blew up the hotel and sent a deluge of liquid gold crashing down on them, but Sanji, Robin, and Franky flew their crewmates to safety. Tesoro then confronted the Straw Hats inside a giant gold golem, and Luffy attacked him, but Tesoro managed to overpower Luffy with his massive strength. Luffy was sent flying into the ground, where he was approached by Spandam. Spandam wrapped Luffy in Seastone chains, but as he prepared to deal the finishing blow, a young boy named Rikka ran in and intercepted the strike. Luffy then freed himself from the chains and punched Spandam into the ground, defeating him.[139]

As Tesoro attacked the Straw Hats, Luffy confronted him again, though his blows dealt no damage, and Tesoro continued to overpower him. Luffy then leaped on Tesoro's arm and ran towards his head, though was suddenly in the midst of a barrage of Marine cannon fire as they shot at Tesoro. Tesoro turned his attention to the Marine fleet, allowing Luffy to take him by surprise and hit him in the face with Gomu Gomu no Red Hawk. However, Tesoro was unharmed and returned the favor by hitting Luffy with Gon Inferno. Luffy was sent flying a great distance back, and received a large amount of injuries. Tesoro then attacked Nami and Carina, and Luffy resumed challenging Tesoro as he ran back to the battle, managing to rescue Nami and Carina and throw them to safety. Tesoro punched him into the ground immediately afterwards, but Luffy activated Gear Fourth and shattered Tesoro's arm. Luffy then flew up to Tesoro's face and hit him with Gomu Gomu no Kong Gun, finally knocking Tesoro to the ground.[139]

However, Tesoro turned his golem into liquid gold and brought it down on Gran Tesoro, swamping and trapping everybody except Luffy, who was in the air. Tesoro stood on a mountain of gold tendrils and declared himself a god, and an angry Luffy flew up to him. Tesoro attacked him with Gon L'ira di Dio, but after a great struggle Luffy managed to shatter it with Gomu Gomu no Leo Rex Bazooka and finally reach Tesoro, dealing a finishing blow that sent him flying into the Marine fleet. Everyone on Gran Tesoro rejoiced at Tesoro's defeat, but a timer suddenly appeared, and Carina stated that the ship would sink once it reached zero. The Straw Hats returned to the Thousand Sunny, and quickly discovered that the timer was a ruse in order for Carina take over Gran Tesoro, but held no hard feelings as the Marine fleet chased after them and they were forced to sail away.[139]

Zou Arc

Encounter with the Mink Tribe

During a hail storm, Luffy learned that the Barto Club doesn't have a navigator, lack experience in sailing, and they usually called a granny who gives them useless advice. Therefore, Luffy, the other Straw Hats, the samurais, and Law needed to protect the ship. After one week of traversing through the dangers of the New World, the ship finally arrived at Zou. Luffy was astonished to see that Zou is an island on the back of giant elephant that is over 1000 years old.[140]

After finding the Thousand Sunny, the Barto Club bid Luffy's group farewell. Proceeding to search for Sanji's group, they climbed the giant elephant's left hind leg with a dragon that Kanjuro conjured. After the samurais explained that they were also searching for their ninja comrade, Raizo, Luffy and the others saw something dropping towards them.[141]

Luffy surveys the Mokomo Dukedom.

The thing that was falling towards them happened to be a monkey. The monkey hit Kin'emon and Kanjuro, causing them to off the dragon. Despite being separated from the group, the samurais assured the Straw Hats that they were alright and will catch up to them eventually. The rest of Luffy's group considered turning back for them, but after they saw the dragon struggling to climb, they decided to continue towards the top. Once they reached the top, the dragon turned back into a drawing and the group went on to explore the island. They discovered a village and Luffy ran ahead of the group, searching for Sanji, Nami, Brook, and Chopper.[142]

Luffy clashes with Roddy.

Luffy later went to the Whale Forest and got attacked by a bull mink called Roddy for trespassing. They clashed until Wanda and Carrot arrived and stopped them. After Pedro called off the guardians, Luffy got reacquainted with the Heart Pirates and explained that Law was on the island as well. Wanda then explained to Luffy about a recent attack on Zou before offering to take him to Sanji's group, much to his excitement.[143]

While riding Wany, Wanda told Luffy about the climate on Zou and how the sea water from Zunisha's eruption rain is filtered and sent across the country via a system of aqueducts. She and Carrot also explained that that rain also drops plenty of fish, providing them with a good food source. As they travel, they went past some wooden stockades used for torturing prisoners. Luffy asked her about the pirate she mentioned earlier, and she told him about Jack, explaining that his obituary was in the paper, since he was believed to be killed during a raid on a Marine escort. She added that his death wasn't confirmed, so he might still be alive. Right after Law teleported the rest of Luffy's friends close to their location, Wanda led them into Right Belly Forest. Luffy was overjoyed to be reunited with Nami and Chopper. Nami embraced Luffy as she told him what happened to Sanji.[144]

Luffy and the Straw Hats arrive at Right Belly Fortress.

While having a feast with the Mink Tribe, Luffy told Zoro not to be rude to the minks. He was then happy to see Brook again. Brook explained that Momonosuke was safe but refused to leave his room. He also warned Luffy not to mention samurai or the Wano Country. Before he could explain the reason, he was interrupted by canine minks. After Luffy told Chopper that Law was with his crew, Nami asked him what to do about Sanji. Since Sanji had left a letter, Luffy was not too worried, much to Nami's chagrin. Luffy then listened to Nami and Chopper's story about how they escaped the Big Mom Pirates before listening to Wanda's story about how Nami's group saved the Mink Tribe. After hearing that Prince Inuarashi awakened from his coma and wanted to meet Zou's benefactors, Luffy and his group went to meet him. On the way, Wanda began to explain to them about Jack's attack on Zou in more detail.[145]

During her explanation, Wanda revealed that Jack was searching for a Wano ninja known as Raizo. After Wanda finished with her recollection, Brook explained to his crew the reason why they should not mention samurai or the Wano Country.[146] When Luffy blurted out the ninja's name, Nami, Usopp, and Brook swiftly beat him up. They then arrived at the duke's home where they were introduced to Sicilian, who expressed his gratitude to the crew.[147] After entering the duke's home, they heard about a weapon Jack used against the Mink Tribe.[148]

Luffy and the Straw Hats meet Inuarashi.

After hearing that the weapon was made by Caesar, Luffy became angry.[149] Inuarashi then changed the topic of their conversation to how he once met Shanks. Luffy was about to talk more about him, but the duke suddenly fell asleep since dusk arrived.[150]

After Wanda finished recalling the devastation caused by Jack and the Mink Tribe's salvation, Luffy promised to make Jack and Kaido pay one day. Wanda expressed her doubt about Jack being dead, as she saw how powerful he was and how he fought. The Straw Hats then decided to visit Nekomamushi and the Guardians and they traveled to the Whale Forest with Wanda and Carrot. On the way, Nami and Brook began to explain to the rest of the group what happened when Big Mom's ship arrived at Zou two days before Luffy's group's arrival.[151] Specifically, they informed the rest of the crew of Big Mom's upcoming tea party, which would host a political wedding between Sanji, the third son of the Vinsmoke Family, and the 35th daughter of the Charlotte Family, Pudding.[152] They also explained that Sanji, after ensuring the safety of Nami, Brook and Chopper, chose to leave with the Big Mom Pirates in order to settle things with his family.[153]

The Straw Hats go off to see Nekomamushi.

After hearing about the circumstances surrounding Sanji's departure, Luffy was initially excited at the prospect of having another crewmate. However, when Brook told him that they would become subordinate members of Big Mom's hierarchy if Sanji married her daughter, Luffy became displeased at the idea. Despite this, when Chopper explained the possibility of Sanji severing ties with them in order to avoid this exact scenario, Luffy became worried that Sanji might quit the Straw Hats, which he considered even worse than sailing under Big Mom. Luffy then decided to find Sanji, although his crew objected to confronting Big Mom without a plan. After arriving at the Whale Forest, Pedro then brought Luffy to Pekoms. When Luffy questioned him about the arranged marriage, Pekoms revealed that Sanji's father and Big Mom arranged the wedding to finalize an alliance between their families, and that the Vinsmoke Family is a family of killers.[154]

Luffy visits Pekoms and gets angry when the mink says Sanji will likely not return.

Pekoms proceeded to tell them about a mysterious organization known as Germa 66, commanded by the Vinsmokes and headed ultimately by Sanji's father. Luffy then stated that he did not care and told Pekoms that he wanted the Big Mom Pirates to be his underlings, not the other way around. Shocked and furious at this statement, Pekoms reminded Luffy of Big Mom's power and status. Once he calmed down, Pekoms explained the reason why Sanji could not refuse the invitation - if he did, he would receive the decapitated head of someone close to him. Luffy then asked him how the Big Mom Pirates knew so much about Sanji and Pekoms replied that it was because of the power that all Yonko hold. Pekoms went on to say that the marriage, instead of making the Straw Hats Big Mom's subordinates, would automatically result in Sanji leaving the Straw Hats and joining the Big Mom Pirates - a revelation which Luffy did not take to kindly. Pekoms said that he will return to the Big Mom Pirates once he recovered; Luffy then told Pekoms to also take him to the tea party to find Sanji, ignoring Pekoms' objections.

As he ran outside, he found Zoro listening in on the earlier conversation. Luffy assumed that Zoro was also worried about Sanji, much to Zoro's annoyance. They then met Nekomamushi, who then gave them a warm greeting. Law arrived and his introduced his crew to Luffy. Law was then shocked to be informed that Sanji went to Big Mom. Luffy said that he will bring Sanji back and told him not to attack Kaido until he returns. Law then explained that Kaido might be pursuing them as they speak and Zou could be at risk. After the minks felt touched by Law's concerns, Nekomamushi decided to party with Luffy and his group.[155]

Revelations and a New Alliance

File:Raizo is Safe.png

Inuarashi and Nekomamushi reveal that Raizo is safe.

The next morning, Luffy and his group heard a bell ringing and realized that Kin'emon and Kanjuro had arrived. They quickly rushed to find them, fearing what would happen if the Mink Tribe meets the samurai. The Straw Hats managed to intercept Kin'emon, Kanjuro, and Momonosuke just as they arrived at Kurau City and tried desperately to keep them hidden. However, as Nekomamushi and Inuarashi were fighting, Kin'emon and Kanjuro revealed themselves. Contrary to what the Straw Hats expected, the Mink Tribe welcomed the samurais and revealed that Raizo is safe. The Straw Hats were stunned to learn that the minks knew about Raizo all along and went to great lengths to keep him hidden despite the abuse they suffered.[156]

File:Raizo Demonstrates His Powers.png

Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper are entranced by Raizo's display of abilities.

After Momonsuke stopped Inuarashi and Nekomamushi from continuing their quarrel, Kin'emon revealed that Momonosuke was not his son but was actually the son of Kozuki Oden, which surprised Luffy as Momonosuke and Kin'emon looked alike. However, Luffy still did not took Momonosuke seriously. Inuarashi and Nekomamushi then took the Straw Hats, Law, and the samurais to Raizo, and Luffy and the other male pirates were excited to meet him, thinking he would be like a stereotypical ninja. When they met Raizo at a secret room inside the whale-shaped tree, Luffy and his crewmates were shocked by Raizo's appearance, but still begged him to perform various tricks. Raizo refused until the pirates started sulking, which caused him to use some of his ninja arts, and the pirates were immediately entranced.[157]

Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper then accompanied Kin'emon, Kanjuro, and Raizo as they stood outside the Whale Tree, expressing their sorrows as they saw the state Zou was in after Jack's attack. When Robin deciphered the red poneglyph hidden in the Whale Tree, Nekomamushi called them back in. Inuarashi then explained to the Straw Hats about the four Road Poneglyphs and they listened in anticipation as he revealed how they can lead to Raftel. When Nekomamushi revealed that Kaido and Big Mom each possessed one Road Poneglyph, Luffy became more eager to fight them. Usopp was delighted to hear that they can copy the information on the poneglyphs using gyotaku, but Luffy was not interested in that approach, much to Usopp's chagrin. The Straw Hats were then surprised when Nekomamushi revealed that Momonosuke's ancestors created the poneglyhs. However, the samurai explained that Momonosuke never inherited the knowledge of the poneglyphs due to the execution of Lord Oden at the hands of Kaido and the shogun of Wano. The Straw Hats also learned that Oden was part of Roger's crew and had been on Raftel with him as well as the Beasts Pirates' objective in obtaining the secret that Oden knew.[158]

The samurai explained Oden's will to open Wano Country to the world and they went on a journey to gather allies in order to fight Kaido and the shogun of Wano. Kin'emon then requests Luffy's assistance, but Luffy declined, saying that Momonosuke should make the request himself. Momonosuke then declared his will to fight Kaido and protect those dear to him. He bowed and humbly asked for Luffy's help. Seeing Momonosuke's resolve, Luffy accepted the request and formed an alliance with the samurai and the Mink Tribe.[159]

File:Luffy and Momonosuke Hear Zunisha.png

Luffy and Momonosuke hear Zunisha's voice.

Right after leaving the secret room, Luffy learned that Inuarashi and Nekomamuhi traveled with Oden and had been on the ships of both Whitebeard and Roger. He also learned that the remnants of the Whitebeard Pirates were defeated and then forced into hiding by the Blackbeard Pirates one year after the Battle of Marineford. The alliance decided to split up to accomplish different tasks and meet up again at Wano. Nami, Chopper, and Brook chose to accompany Luffy in his mission to rescue Sanji. Robin asked Luffy to make a copy of the poneglyph in Big Mom's possession. However, before they could start their operation, they felt Zou shaking and heard Zunisha crying.[160]

As everything shook around them, Luffy heard Zunisha's voice. However, Luffy's own voice cannot reach it. After Momonosuke revealed that he can hear the elephant's voice as well, Luffy urged him to give the elephant a command, which was to drive Jack away. After Jack's fleet has been sunk, Luffy prepared to disembark Zou.[161]

Luffy and the Sanji retrieval team prepare to depart Zou.

He then went to check up on Pekoms and was shocked to see that the house he was resting in collapsed. He was relieved when Pekoms revealed that he used his Devil Fruit powers to save himself from further injury. Luffy then carried Pekoms on his back and departed from Zou with the Sanji Retrieval Team (which also included Pedro). Everyone, except the Straw Hat members left behind, were shocked when Luffy jumped off Zunisha with his party.[162]

Journey to Whole Cake Island

Carrot convinces Luffy to let her join their team.

As they sailed towards Whole Cake Island on the Thousand Sunny, Luffy scolded Nami, Chopper, and Brook for acting less energetic. Nami pointed out that they were still recovering from the shock of Luffy's stunt at Zou. The group on the Sunny were then surprised to see Carrot had snuck aboard the ship. After she begged them not to turn back, Luffy allowed her to come along. When the crew got hungry, Luffy, in Sanji's absence, insisted on preparing a meal himself after Nami was going to charge them money for the food.[163]

While cooking, Luffy and the rest of the Sanji retrieval team learned from a newspaper about the Blackbeard Pirates' attack on the Revolutionary Army's headquarters on Baltigo. Luffy was shocked to see what his father looks like and also worried for Sabo's life. Pedro assured Luffy that if the revolutionaries were defeated, it would have been mentioned in the newspaper. Luffy then realized that he forgot to turn off the stove, causing a fire. After passing through a storm, Luffy presented his dish, which his group did not enjoy in the least. Luffy then admitted that he used up all the food they had and his group found themselves in a food shortage crisis.[164]

The following events are Non-Canon and therefore not considered part of the Canon story.

Marine Rookie Arc

Luffy and Carrot go undercover in a Marine base to eat food.

The team began to get hungry after Luffy depleted all their rations, with the starving Luffy even trying to eat Chopper. They then came across Fron Island and decided to look for food there, despite Pekoms warning them that a Marine base was located there. Luffy, Nami, Chopper, Brook, and Carrot went to Fron Island on the Shark Submerge III. Once they landed, Brook scared a group of Marines into unconsciousness, allowing Luffy and the others to steal their clothes. Instead of going with Nami's planned raid of a food warehouse, Luffy and Carrot headed toward a Marine cafeteria, where they feasted on curry and rice. When Luffy finished his serving, he took an entire pot of curry to eat, which caused an uproar. During the uproar, Luffy was spotted by Vice Admiral Prodi through Video Den Den Mushis, and Prodi raised the alarm and told everyone about the Straw Hat Crew's presence. Luffy was then confronted by the Marines in the cafeteria, with the newly arrived Captain Grount preparing to fight him.[165]

Whole Cake Island Arc

Journey to Whole Cake Island

Luffy gets severe poisoning after eating a fish's skin.

A few days later, the group was famished from the lack of food and overheated as they passed through boiling waters. They were saved from starvation when Luffy managed to catch a gigantic fish. Luffy immediately started eating the fish and consumed the fish's toxic skin, which led to Luffy being incapacitated by food poisoning. After they entered Big Mom's waters, the group on the Sunny was approached by a ship belonging to Germa 66.[166]

The Straw Hats were approached by two of Sanji's siblings, Vinsmoke Yonji and Vinsmoke Reiju. Reiju proceeded to suck the poison out of Luffy through his mouth, causing him to be revived almost instantly. Luffy thanked Reiju for saving him, as Reiju explained that the Vinsmoke Family had been searching for Sanji since he left them as a child. Luffy wanted Reiju to give Sanji back to the crew, but Reiju leaped back onto her ship, and she and Yonji sailed away.[167]

Luffy and Chopper eat an entire cafe at Cacao Island.

The group later docked at Cacao Island, an island close to Whole Cake Island. After seeing buildings made of chocolate, Luffy and Chopper went ahead to explore the island. When they ate a café, a policeman confronted them and was about to arrest them. The owner of the café, Charlotte Pudding, arrived and came to their defense, saying that they were hired to dismantle the café. After she saved Luffy and Chopper, the team accompanied her to her home where she offered them food. While conversing with her, Luffy accidentally revealed his name.[168]

The Sanji retrieval team was then shocked to learn that the woman they were conversing with was Sanji's betrothed, who in turn, was surprised to discover that the group was from the Straw Hat crew. After calming down, Luffy and the team listened as Pudding explained more about the Charlotte Family and her thoughts about Sanji. Luffy and the others was shocked to hear that Sanji turned her down. Pudding then showed them a secret route to Whole Cake Island and told them where to meet her while promising to bring Sanji to them. The Sanji retrieval team then left in a hurry when guards arrived for Pudding and quickly returned to the Thousand Sunny. Pekoms was nowhere to be seen and they found a message telling them to turn back. Luffy decided to continue forward, saying that things got interesting.[169]

The Sanji retrieval team battles a giant centipede.

After leaving Cocao Island, Luffy wanted to go rescue Pekoms, but Pedro dissuaded him, saying that the mink would be all right. The team sailed on Pudding's route and reached the next island, but Nami decided to stay away from it. Luffy quickly steered the ship starboard, causing the helm to burst into flames, much to Nami's chagrin. Luffy later wanted to go into the kitchen to cook again, but Nami quickly stopped him. A giant aquatic centipede then attacked the Thousand Sunny, and the team began battling it.[170]

The team later battled a swarm of giant ants before getting trapped in a frozen sea of syrup as night fell. As they worked to unfreeze the sea, Pedro revealed that the giant ants had once eaten his own ship, and Luffy wondered what he did there in the past. Pedro then explained that he once traveled with Pekoms as a pirate and came to Totto Land searching for poneglyphs, revealing that his journey met with defeat. However, Pedro was fine with coming back to help the Straw Hats. He told Luffy that since Inuarashi and Nekomamushi showed him the Road Poneglyph on Zou, they must believe that he can follow in Gol D. Roger's footsteps, as he was the only other stranger to see it, and so they needed to acquire Big Mom's Road Poneglyph. He then offered to sneak in and steal it while the others rescue Sanji. Luffy agreed to this proposal as the ants returned.[171]

The next day, the team reached Whole Cake Island.[171]

The Perils of the Seducing Woods

Luffy confronts his physical reflection.

After docking at the southwestern coast of Whole Cake Island, the team split into two groups, with Pedro and Brook departing to find Big Mom's Road Poneglyph. Right after Luffy's group disembarked on the island, Luffy saw what appeared to be Sanji in the nearby forest. Luffy, Chopper, and Carrot ran after him with Nami following them, but he somehow disappeared. Luffy, Chopper, and Carrot entered the woods to continue searching, although they were often distracted by the sweet environment. The team was nearly eaten by a talking crocodile, and Nami attempted to get everyone to turn back, but Luffy intently pressed on the search for Sanji. They also encountered a man with a gigantic head whose body is buried into the ground. Suddenly, Luffy encountered Big Mom's 8th daughter, Brûlée, who was disguised as another version of himself and talked and acted simultaneously with him just like a mirror reflection. The two got angry at each other and started fighting, matching each other's blows exactly, and they told the others to go ahead and look for Sanji.[172]

Nami, Chopper, and Carrot returned to where Luffy was still fighting Brûlée as they were being chased by Randolph. Brûlée went with them while Luffy ran in the opposite direction. Luffy attempted to tell them that the real him was not with them, but Brûlée stifled him before he could say anything.[173]

As night fell over Whole Cake Island, Luffy gathered multiple, bound fake versions of Sanji, Pudding, Nami, Chopper and Carrot into the center of a clearing in the Seducing Woods. Luffy exclaimed that he found all of them, but that they were all acting strangely. He then asked whose idea it was to begin multiplying.[174] Luffy then discovered the real Nami among the fakes and quickly untied her. She then explained to Luffy about what happened during the encounter with Brûlée. While interrogating a buried man named Pound, they learned about a toll that the citizens of Totto Land must pay to Big Mom as well as the Yonko's Devil Fruit power, which enables her to give life to many things. The man then revealed that he was one of Big Mom's husbands, who was discarded after having two daughters. Big Mom's tenth son, Charlotte Cracker, appeared and confronted the group.[175]

Luffy saves Pound from Cracker.

As Luffy and Nami confronted Cracker, they were suddenly ambushed by Randolph again, but Cracker knocked him over in anger. Luffy and Nami watched as Cracker argued with Brûlée and the guards of the Seducing Woods. Brûlée showed a captured Carrot and Chopper trapped in her mirror before shattering the mirror into pieces. Luffy was worried but Chopper revealed that he and Carrot remained unharmed. When Cracker tried to kill Pound, Luffy blocked his sword. He then kicked Cracker's arm, forcing him to free Pound. Luffy battled Cracker, but was sent flying into a tree homie, and he got up and prepared to give his all against Cracker.[176]

Nami asked to Luffy to retreat, but he refused and tried to attack Cracker with Elephant Gun. After blocking the attack, Cracker easily overwhelmed Luffy with his swordsmanship, Devil Fruit abilities, and Busoshoku Haki, sending Luffy flying through several tree homies despite Luffy using Haki himself. Luffy returned and attacked Cracker with Hawk Gatling, but Cracker countered it with his Haki-imbued shields, which Luffy stated were harder than any Busoshoku Haki he had faced before. Cracker slammed Luffy into the ground and drew closer to him, berating Luffy for wanting to take Sanji away from a royal lifestyle. Luffy grew angry at Cracker for claiming that Sanji would tell him and the other Straw Hats that he never wanted to see them again. Luffy then activated Gear Fourth and managed to send Cracker flying with Kong Gun.[177]

While Cracker was on the ground, Luffy used another Kong Gun and shattered Cracker's biscuit armor. The real Cracker emerged from it, cutting Luffy's right arm with Pretzel. Cracker revealed his true Devil Fruit abilities to Luffy as he created multiple biscuit soldiers, which Luffy attacked. However, Cracker had them advance as he leaped out from behind them to attack Luffy, barely missing his head.[178]

Luffy defeats Cracker.

The battle lasted for eleven hours, and Luffy adopted a strategy of fighting, running, and eating Cracker's biscuit soldiers. This made Cracker increasingly exasperated, and Luffy was determined to chip away Cracker's stamina and go to Sanji.[179]

Cracker produced more biscuit soldiers and sent them charging at Luffy. Nami used Rain Spark and softened the soldiers, which Luffy then devoured. As Luffy was reaching his limit, he used another variation form of Gear Fourth called Tankman: Full Version. When Cracker tried to pierce Luffy with his sword, Luffy sucked Cracker into his body and sent him flying.[180]

A New Predicament

Luffy meeting Sanji again.

After Cracker's defeat, Luffy laid on the ground, exhausted from the battle. He then rested on top of King Baum's head alongside Nami as they traveled to Big Mom's castle. On the way, Luffy returned to his normal size and they encountered the Vinsmoke carriage and saw Sanji again. Excited, Luffy leaped onto the carriage and asked Sanji to return with him. In response, Sanji kicked Luffy off the carriage and told him to leave. Luffy refused to listen, so Sanji volunteered to handle Luffy himself.[181]

Luffy refusing to fight Sanji.

As Sanji approached Luffy, he further insulted the latter before kicking him in the face. Luffy withstood the attack and remained on his feet. Sanji continued the confrontation by repeatedly kicking Luffy until he finally collapsed. After Sanji returned to his family's carriage, Luffy got back on his feet and yelled to Sanji, saying that he knew that Sanji never meant what he said. Luffy declared that he would wait for Sanji and would gladly starve to death if he does not return. Luffy went on saying that he would not eat any food unless it is made by Sanji's hands.[182]

After the Vinsmoke Family left, Luffy and Nami soon saw the weather changing into a massive storm as an army marched towards their location. Luffy refused to run and hide, so he fought the army head on.[183]

Luffy is defeated by Big Mom's army.

As the battle raged on, Luffy managed to defeat most of the army before he was overwhelmed by Charlotte Opera's cream, which scalded his skin, and he raced to attack Opera. However, Charlotte Mont-d'Or put Luffy into the setting of one of his books, preventing Luffy from seeing the real world. This prevented Luffy from seeing two Big Mom Pirates members from rushing at him, and he was punched from the front and the back, sending him crashing down. The Big Mom Pirates headed back to Sweet City, and one of them tried to carry Luffy. Luffy tried holding onto the ground in order to stay at his spot, but the enemy pirate stomped on his head.[184]

File:Luffy and Nami are Held Captive.png

Luffy and Nami held captive by Big Mom.

Luffy and Nami were then imprisoned inside a book. Inside the prisoner library, Big Mom spoke to them through a Den Den Mushi. Luffy shouted at her to let him go. Big Mom laughed at his liveliness and said that she thought he had broken his promise to battle her due to not bringing his entire crew. Luffy replied that he still intended to fulfill that promise, but he was only there to get Sanji back, though he would still fight her if she showed up. Big Mom replied by telling Luffy that he was nothing compared to her and that she could have him killed without even needing to show up. Big Mom said that if they gave up on rescuing Sanji, she would free them once the wedding was complete and warned them that if they interfered with her plans, she would give them hell. Big Mom recalled the time Luffy gave her treasure including the legendary box known as the Tamatebako and explained that she had taken a liking to the box that she would forgive the Fishman Island incident altogether and planned to open the Tamatebako during the wedding ceremony. Luffy shouted at her to be quiet, saying the wedding would not happen and asked to speak to his friend, Pudding. Big Mom laughed incredulously about the Straw Hats being friends with the bride-to-be and then inquired about Lola. Big Mom recounted on how Lola running away from an important political marriage ruined her plans to become Pirate King. Luffy replied that Lola did not need to be a pawn in Big Mom's rise to power and challenged the Yonko again, saying he would get Sanji back and defeat her in the end.[185]

Sometime after the conversation, Pudding came to the Prisoner Library and requested to talk to Luffy and Nami, and she entered their cell via an opening created by a bookmark. Pudding apologized for the harm her siblings had inflicted on them, and apologized for not meeting them on the coast like they agreed. She revealed that Sanji had proposed to her, but stated that she knew he did not truly want to marry her and so she would not marry him. She then whispered to Luffy and Nami, saying with a sinister expression that she would kill Sanji during the wedding ceremony and that Luffy and Nami would not leave alive. Pudding then left their cell with tears while telling them goodbye and insulting them.[186]

Luffy races throughout the Whole Cake Chateau to get to Sanji.

Shocked and angry at what Pudding said, Luffy then struggled to break free, determined not to die, even if it meant tearing off his arms.[187] Before Luffy could further injure himself, Jinbe arrived at the Prisoner Library and took down Opera with a single punch. Luffy and Nami were overjoyed as Jinbe prepared to free them.[188] Jinbe then released Luffy and Nami by burning the book they were imprisoned in. Luffy then collapsed from hunger but quickly got back up as Big Mom's soldiers were charging into the Prisoner Library. Luffy dashed out of the Prisoner Library and went on a rampage throughout the castle, searching for Sanji.[189]

Luffy continued to run through the hallways, calling for Sanji, until Reiju grabbed him and hid him in the infirmary. Reiju then informed him that Sanji was already aware of Pudding's deception. She also mentioned that she tried to convince Sanji to leave, but he was worried about the chefs at the Baratie and the Straw Hats. Relieved that Sanji was not being deceived, Luffy jumped out of the castle and headed back to the place where he promised to wait for Sanji.[190] Dazed and fatigued, Luffy began his journey through Sweet City in the rain.[191] He later made it back to the promised place, where he fell asleep while he waited patiently for Sanji.[192]

Luffy punches Sanji to stop him from lying about his obstacles to rejoining the crew.

Luffy woke up when he smelled the bento box Sanji was carrying. Sanji gave the box to him and Luffy happily ate the food. When Luffy once again asked Sanji to leave with him, Sanji explained his reasons why he could not. Luffy responded by punching Sanji and demanded him to tell the truth. Sanji broke down in tears, saying that he wanted to return to the crew but did not want to leave his family to die. Luffy then gave Sanji his support, saying that they would ruin the wedding together.[193]

Luffy and Sanji were later contacted by Chopper's group through a mirror shard. After Luffy explained his intent to ruin the wedding ceremony, Jinbe explained to Luffy more about Bege, such as his backstory and him plotting against Big Mom. Jinbe proposed to Luffy about forming an alliance with Bege, and Luffy agreed to meet him.[194]

The Wedding Day

The Sanji retrieval team meets with the Fire Tank Pirates.

Once at Bege's hideout, Luffy and Sanji were greeted by Vito, who asked them to take a bath since his boss does not like to meet with dirty people. After Luffy and Brook had their bath, they raided Bege's fridge for milk (with Luffy regaining his lost tooth and Brook's cracked skull healing). Luffy and his team soon met Bege and the negotiations were hectic with Luffy spotting Caesar Clown among Bege's crew and wanting to attack Bege for hurting Pekoms. The brawl was broken up when Jinbe pointed out that the group share a common enemy in Big Mom. Reluctantly, Luffy asked Bege about his plan and the latter responded that he already had a perfect one prepared.[195]

Bege proceeded to explain the details, including informing Luffy that he would be the bait to distract Big Mom's subordinates once Bege triggers one of her tantrums. Despite Nami's and Chiffon's protests, Luffy agreed excitedly, stating that he already had a plan for how to make his entrance at the ceremony. Luffy, Bege, and Caesar then agreed that their alliance would come to an end once Big Mom was dead and all groups had made their escape. As the meeting adjourned, Luffy asked Bege for a favor.[196]
