The Mt. Atama Thieves are a group of bandits who operate in Wano Country.[2] Their leader is Ashura Doji, who goes by the name Shutenmaru.[1]

Overview

They are a group of thieves who would steal from anyone, whether it is the Beasts Pirates or the poor citizens of Wano Country.[1]

Symbol

The symbol of the Mt. Atama Thieves bears a form resembling Shutenmaru's hairstyle. The symbol is initially shown accompanied by a Shimenawa.[1]

History

Past

A few weeks before Monkey D. Luffy's arrival at Wano Country, Shutenmaru and other thieves managed to steal food from the farm of the shogun, Kurozumi Orochi, in Kuri.[3]

Wano Country Arc

They were first shown stealing food from the citizens of Okobore Town before they were confronted by Jack. Shutenmaru clashed with Jack until Kaido arrived in Kuri, prompting the thieves to retreat.[4]

At Mt. Atama, Shutenmaru fought with Inuarashi until Kin'emon interrupted the fight.[5]

A few days later, one of Holdem's subordinates set Mt. Atama on fire, forcing the thieves to flee. Shutenmaru decided to go to Bakura Town to retaliate against Holdem.[6] After arriving there, Shutenmaru witnessed Yasuie's execution along with Kin'emon and Inuarashi. Afterward, Shutenmaru learned that Kin'emon framed him for theft and got angry. Kin'emon apologized and asked for his help.[7]

Shutenmaru later took Kin'emon and Inuarashi to the graves of those who tried to fight Kaido ten years ago. When Shutenmaru decided to join the Kozuki Family's alliance, his gang joined as well.[8]

Translation and Dub Issues

The group is frequently called the "Atamayama Thieves", which is used by the official Viz translation. Atama-yama is the untranslated name of Mt. Atama, with yama meaning "mountain".

Trivia

  • The group's name is probably a reference to rakugo show and Japanese cartoon short known as Mt. Head (頭山, Atamayama?).
