Nakatsugawa Usopp is one of the three protagonists of the One Piece in Love spin-off series. He is a super fan of One Piece.

Appearance

Usopp is a large teenage boy with a particularly block-shaped head and glasses. He appears to be quite tall, standing a full head over the next-tallest student, and has broad shoulders. He has short black hair on the top of his head, which flows into a wave of curly blond hair that hangs onto his back. He typically wears a high school uniform consisting of a white button-down dress shirt and blue pants, and more casual clothing in his free time.

Personality

Usopp is a super fan of One Piece, frequently quoting it and recreating scenes or events from the series. He has in-depth knowledge of the series, more than the average reader, and tries to bring it into daily life whenever he gets a chance. This obsession leads to Usopp being somewhat insensitive and unaware of the feelings of those around him, and he has a tendency to force others to participate in his obsession. He can be difficult to deal with because of his lack of malice, as he genuinely seems to believe others like One Piece the way he does.

However, Usopp is able to be serious when necessary, and doesn't hesitate to help his friends against dangers or those who are malicious, like the students who bullied Luffy.

Relationships

Yamamoto Luffy

Luffy is a classmate and friend of Usopp's, who Usopp seeked out due to their similar One Piece names. Usopp frequently drags Luffy into his One Piece antics due to his name.

Koyama Nami

Nami is a classmate and friend of Usopp's, who he seeked out due to their similar One Piece names. She tends to get annoyed at his antics, and dislikes how he distracts Yamamoto Luffy away from her, considering him a third wheel. She frequently acts as a tsukkomi to Usopp's boke.

Brook

Usopp created Brook, and programmed the intelligence system it uses.

Abilities and Powers

Usopp is very strong, partly due to his large size, and he was able to beat four bullies at once in a brawl. Despite his general naiveté, he is very intelligent, and is able to create various impromptu One Piece-themed weapons and program fairly advanced systems.

He claims to have a body fat percentage of just 7%.

Techniques

• Usopp Aaah (ウソップア～アア～, Usoppu Āaā^?): Usopp wears a belt with a rope at the front, which he can extend and use to tie things to himself. He first used this to steal the first Chopper from the zoo.
• Tabasco Boshi (タバスコ星, Tobasuko Boshi^?, lit. "Tabasco Star"): Presumably based on Usopp's Tokusei Tabasco Boshi, it is a small pellet made extremely spicy. It's so spicy that upon eating one, Usopp passes out for a few seconds then wakes up with his memories adjusted, leading to partial amnesia.

History

One Piece in Love

Usopp ran through the hallway, looking for two other students he heard had One Piece names like his own, when he found Yamamoto Luffy and Koyama Nami. He introduced himself, overjoyed to have found the other One Piece students, and the three students spent the afternoon together. By the time he went home, Usopp had added Luffy on Line. The next day, Usopp founded the Pirate Club and declared Luffy the Captain, spreading pamphlets around the school to recruit new members. Later during the day, he noticed Luffy being bullied by a group of students, and shot fire at them to recreate Usopp's Kaen Boshi, then got into a brawl with the bullies and scared them away. However, as a result of his Kaen Boshi, he accidentally lit the school on fire.

As a member of the Pirate Club, Usopp grows closer to Luffy and Nami, and frequently involves them in his One Piece antics as they go about their daily lives.
