Devil Fruit
English Name:
Japanese Stag Beetle SMILE

Nokokuwa Police[2] is a Shinuchi of the Beasts Pirates[1] and part of the Armored Division led by Sasaki.[3]

During the Raid on Onigashima, he was tamed by the power of the Kibi Kibi no Mi and joined the side of the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance.[4]

Appearance[]

Nokokuwa Police is a tall muscular man, approximately twice as tall as Zoro's height, and has tattoos of fish bones on his chest. Due to consuming a Stag Beetle SMILE, he has a pair of stag beetle's mandibles on his shoulders and an extra pair of arms. He wears a police hat with a golden buckle on it, a sleeveless leather jacket, two pairs of black gloves, leather pants with a belt, and boots. As a Gifter, he has black horns on his head.

In his first two appearances, he lacked the tattoos on his upper body and wore suspenders under his vest and shoulder pads with spikes. The pattern on his police hat looked more like three connected circles than what is shown later.[1][5]

Personality[]

Nokokuwa Police appears to be very loyal to the Beasts Pirates and does not seem to have a problem with firing on Kouzuki Momonosuke, a child.[3] He appears to look down on those who challenge his crew, trying to convince Zoro to give up during the Raid on Onigashima.[1] In the anime, he appears to be cold-hearted, laughing alongside the rest of the Armored Division when Sasaki made fun of the Kouzuki Family.[6]

Like many characters, he has a unique laughing style: "Kuwakuwa" (クワックワッ?, VIZ: "Sta sta stag").[1]

Abilities and Powers[]

As a Shinuchi of the Beasts Pirates, Nokokuwa Police has authority over lower-ranking subordinates.[1] He is seen leading the Armored Division when under the effects of Tama's ability.[4]

Devil Fruit[]

Main article: SMILE

Nokokuwa Police has eaten a Japanese Stag Beetle SMILE (ノコギリクワガタのSMILEスマイル, Nokogiri kuwagata no Sumairu?),[2] giving him large mandibles on his shoulders and an extra pair of arms.[1]

Weapons[]

Nokokuwa Police wields various weapons, including pistols,[5] a rifle, and saw-like ōtachi.[7][2] Because of his four arms, he can wield multiple weapons and combinations of weapons at the same time,[7] and is considered an expert swordsman, being skilled enough to wield four ōtachi.[2]

History[]

Past[]

Nokokuwa Police was stationed on Onigashima when Portgas D. Ace invaded the island four years ago. He, along with Poker, Babanuki, and Briscola, watched in horror as Yamato broke the dragon statue that symbolized Kaidou's power.[8]

At some point in the last four years, Nokokuwa Police ate a SMILE fruit, gaining the properties of a Japanese stag beetle.

Wano Country Saga[]

Wano Country Arc[]

On the day of the Fire Festival, Nokokuwa Police took part in Queen's Golden Kagura festivities with the other Shinuchi.[1] When the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance later invaded Onigashima, he was among the Gifters who stood alongside Scratchmen Apoo in Luffy and Zoro's way.[5] Later, he again confronted Zoro alongside Kamakirigirl and Beetleman.[9]

Once the Raid on Onigashima was fully underway, Nokokuwa Police rejoined the Armored Division. Targeting Momonosuke, who was being protected by Shinobu, he participated in the initial firing round, hitting Shinobu.[7] After Yamato began defending Momonosuke,[3] the entire division surrounded the three of them and fired shots from behind their shields. However, Yamato continued blocking the shots and taking down more of their members, until the fight was eventually interrupted by the arrival of Franky and Hatcha. The Number smashed a hole through the floor, and the trio escaped,[10] with Franky staying behind to occupy the Armored Division.[11]

During Franky's fight with Sasaki, Tama, with help from Usopp, was able to tame the Armored Division and led them to the Live Floor.[12] After Tama gave her order for her friends to help the Straw Hats, Nokokuwa Police led the Armored Division back to the Right-Brain Tower to help aid Franky in fighting the Beasts Pirates. He and the rest of the Armored Division were eventually taken out by Sasaki's Heliceratops.[4] A recovered Nokokuwa Police was later seen trapped in the Castle Basement by the fire alongside other members of the Alliance.[13]

Major Battles[]

Anime and Manga Differences[]

In the anime, Nokokuwa Police being tamed by the Kibi Kibi no Mi was shown. He prepared to aid Sasaki against the swarm of Gifters already tamed, before being tamed himself.[14]

Trivia[]

  • The first part of Nokokuwa Police's name comes from the Japanese term for Japanese Stag Beetle (ノコギリクワガタ, Nokogiri kuwagata?). The second part is likely based on his police hat.
    • This makes Nokokuwa Police one of the few Shinuchi to not follow the card game-themed naming scheme of his rank, instead having a name that is closer to how regular Gifters are identified.
