The Nomi Nomi no Mi is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows the user's brain to expand indefinitely with new knowledge, making the user a Brains Human (脳ミソ人間, Nōmiso Ningen?, English: "Brain-Man"). It was eaten by Vegapunk,[2] but with the death of his main body, the status of the fruit is currently unknown.[3]

Etymology[]

  • "Nomi" is derived from nōmiso (脳ミソ?) which means "brains" or "brain tissue" in Japanese.

Strengths and Weaknesses[]

The major strength of this fruit is that it allows the user to store an indefinite amount of information inside their brain, essentially allowing them to eidetically remember everything they have ever learned. This also enables them to understand new knowledge fully and instantaneously, even advanced knowledge that normally requires a lifetime of study to master. If the brain is kept alive even after the user dies, it can keep the information it has stored up until their death.[4]

However, the user's brain and head must expand accordingly to fit all the knowledge, which can cause the user some issues, as having an unnaturally large head can become very inconvenient.[2] Aside from that, the user suffers the standard Devil Fruit weaknesses.

Usage[]

Vegapunk has used this ability to instantly learn and memorize an enormous amount of knowledge, which, together with his natural genius intellect, has made him the smartest man in the world.[2]

Mars Locates Vegapunk Brain

Eventually, however, his head became so large that he was near the size of giants. Vegapunk chose to resolve this issue by cutting off the majority of his brain, and connecting it to his main body with an antenna capable of transmitting brain waves, though it is currently unknown if detaching fragments of brain matter like this is an aspect attributable to the fruit's power or a phenomena made possible via medical technology. The cut-off and still-expanding brain became what is now known as Punk Records. Vegapunk also created six alter egos of himself known as his satellites, which synchronize with Punk Records daily, essentially sharing the same mind.[2]

History[]

The fruit was eaten by Vegapunk some time prior to when he joined MADS.[5]

Trivia[]

Vegapunk's Initial Head Size

Vegapunk's Initial head size.

  • Due to the fact that "Nomi" sounds the same as "no Mi" (の実?, "fruit of"), the suffix present in the name of every Devil Fruit, the name "Nomi Nomi no Mi" consists of the same two syllables repeated three times. This causes Vegapunk to fumble in his words the first time he explains the ability.[2]
  • During Vegapunk's introduction in the Egghead Arc, the shape displayed for his real head is inconsistent to both how it was last seen before his surgery, and its latest appearance in Punk Records.
  • This is one of the few Devil Fruit powers that has virtually no direct offensive uses.
