Appearance[]
Ochoku is a large man, around the size of Edward Newgate. He has an overall slimy appearance, with light, greasy hair, a prominent widows peak, a long, forked tongue, and pronounced, darkened lips. In addition, his ears are pointed, giving him a devilish look as well. He wears a light, frilled dress shirt, with a matching light cravat, a great coat over his shoulders, and dark pants with a floral design.[1]
Personality[]
Although he hasn't said much, from his actions, Ochoku could best be described as an opportunist. After losing a Davy Back Fight against Rocks D. Xebec, he followed his new captain solely to advance his own goals, one of which involved conquering Hachinosu. Sure enough, right before the God Valley Incident, he pawned Shakuyaku to the World Government as a prize for their Native Hunting Competition at God Valley. After Rocks died there, Ochoku was quick to take his seat as the ruler of Hachinosu. [3]
Relationships[]
Crew[]
As a former member of the Rocks Pirates, Ochoku was presumably similar to the rest in that he did not get along with his crewmates.[2] He followed Rocks only for his own purposes, apparently without any respect for his captain.
Other[]
Shakuyaku[]
Ochoku counts his money while the rest of Hachinosu mourns.
In contrast to the rest of his crew, Ochoku appeared to harbor no interest in Shakky, other than as a means to enrich himself. For example, while the rest of his crewmates were either angered or saddened by her capture, Ochoku is implied to have been the one to sell her out, as he was seen gleefully counting money in the meantime. Later on, he appeared to be nervous at plans to rescue her, and also did not go to the God Valley with the others, further suggesting that he was responsible for her kidnapping.[4]
Abilities and Powers[]
Ochoku was mentioned by Sengoku as a noteworthy pirate together with Shiki, Captain John, and Kyo.[2] During the Rocky Port Incident, he was able to fight against Blackbeard. According to the Emperor's own words, he needed some kind of help from Koby in order to defeat Ochoku.[3]
Given his place amongst a crew of individuals that threatened the balance of the world, it can be assumed that Ochoku was a powerful individual in his own right. However, he was incapable of defeating Rocks at the Davy Back Fight, meaning that he was likely less skilled than his captain at such games.[1]
History[]
Past[]
Over 48 years ago, Ochoku lost a Davy Back Fight to Rocks D. Xebec and was forced into being Rocks' crewmate. The group travelled to Elbaph and feasted with King Harald, who tried to warn them against continuing to follow Rocks. However, they all agreed with Rocks' plan for Hachinosu and the world.[1]
The Rocks Pirates rob the International Philanthropy Federation.
44 years ago, Rocks and his crewmates formed the Rocks Pirates. In the two years following that, the Rocks Pirates invaded and robbed Foot Colony, a temple of the International Philanthropy Federation. As Ochoku lead the escape, he received a call from Kyo, Edward Newgate, and Kaidou, who had been investigating the basement. They requested to be lifted out, a request that Ochoku passed on to Shiki, who proceeded to throw a bomb down instead. When they were nearly out, the temple defenses suddenly activated, nearly trapping them all inside. Fortunately, Newgate used Shima Yurashi, causing the entire island to nearly sink as the building collapsed but also freeing them. Having been freed, Kyo angrily demanded to know who had attempted to ditch them, leading to Ochoku simply pointing at Shiki. While the two rivals fought, the Marines suddenly attacked, forcing the entire crew to work together to escape.[5]
40 years ago, Ochoku was present at Shakky's Rip-off Bar when Gol D. Roger arrived, having sought out Shakuyaku.[6]
39 years ago, Shakky was kidnapped from Hachinosu by an unknown perpetrator, who also killed Marlon in the process. While the rest of his crewmates were either enraged or in grief, Ochoku gleefully counted his money. A year later, a transmission leaked Shakky's whereabouts to various pirates all over the world. While the rest of his crewmates were interested in invading God Valley, Ochoku was not. He considered the Native Hunting Competition taking place there to be a trap, and voiced his concerns. In the end, Rocks ignored him and declared that he was going to save Shakky, while also allowing anyone who did not care to remain on Hachinosu.[4] Ochoku ended up taking Rocks up on his offer, remaining behind while the rest of his crewmates took part in what would later be known as the God Valley Incident.[7]
After said incident, the crew went their own separate ways. Ochoku made a name for himself[2] and took over ruling Hachinosu.[3]
During the Timeskip[]
Ochoku was involved in the Rocky Port Incident, where he clashed with his former captain's son Blackbeard. With some form of assistance from Koby, Teach was able to defeat Ochoku and become the new ruler of Hachinosu.[3]
Translation and Dub Issues[]
Ochoku is referred to as a "pirate guru" (海賊教祖, kaizoku kyōso?), but what exactly this entails is unclear. The word 教祖 (kyōso?) can refer not only to a guru, but also the founder of a religious sect or cult.
Major Battles[]

- Ochoku vs. Marshall D. Teach and Koby (unseen)
Trivia[]
- Ochoku is likely named after a real-life Chinese pirate lord of the 1500s, Wang Zhi (his name being "Ōchoku" in Japanese). Official English adaptations reflect this, translating his name as "Wang Zhi".
- Ochoku shares many similar design elements with the brothers Caribou and Coribou, having similar pointed ears, cheekbones, nose, and even facial shape as Caribou while having similar dark lips and circles around his eyes like Coribou. Any relationship between the brothers and Ochoku is yet to be confirmed.
