One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is a One Piece video game released for the Sony PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. It is the fourth installment in the Pirate Warriors franchise, following One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 in 2015. It was first announced at the 2019 Anime Expo.[1]
Gameplay
The game features gameplay similar to its predecessors, though with some brand new changes introduced.
Characters are able to use up to 4 different special attacks, all of which can be leveled up. Also, air combat is more emphasized, with characters now having improved abilities to juggle enemies while staying airborne. Characters can also transform mid-battle, like in the first Pirate Warriors, such as Luffy using Gear 4. The style of the maps is similar to the ones seen in the first Pirate Warriors.
Pirate Warriors 4 also introduces the new concept of "giant characters" (like Big Mom and Kaidou) who are significantly larger than other characters and deal more damage. Some of those, like Big Mom and Kaidou, are playable.
Characters
All playable characters are divided into four general subtypes that summarily describe their method of fighting:
- Power: Can deal massive collateral damage through most of their finishing moves.
- Speed: Can move around fast and have strong combo ability.
- Technique: Have abilities with unique gameplay effects, sometimes requiring prior setup for maximum effectiveness.
- Sky: Focused on aerial combat.
Certain characters who have transformations or an alternate playable variation of them may exhibit a different subtype due to modified movesets. For example, Pre-Timeskip Sanji is a Speed-type character due to the lack of Sky Walk, which allows Post-Timeskip Sanji to act as a Sky-type fighter.
Many characters have a number of costumes to choose from. The remaining characters with bolded groups have a different character image and portrait depending on whether they are from pre- or post-timeskip, but no moveset changes. Costumes in italics are DLC.
The first wave of DLC, the Whole Cake Island Pack, featuring Smoothie, Cracker, and Judge, was released on July 21, 2020.[2]
The second wave of DLC, the Worst Generation Pack, featuring X Drake, Killer, and Urouge was released on September 24, 2020.[3]
The third wave of DLC, the Land of Wano Pack, featuring Kin'emon, Kikunojo, and Kozuki Oden was released on December 17, 2020.[4]
A second character pass consisting of three packs was announced during One Piece Day on July 22, 2023. The fourth wave of DLC, the Battle of Onigashima Pack, which includes new Onigashima versions of Luffy and Kaidou, as well as Yamato, was released on September 14, 2023.[5] In addition, new stage packs were announced, and the first pack, Yamato's Adventures, was released alongside the Battle of Onigashima character pack. Furthermore, Soul Maps, which are additional means of enhancing character growths, were released alongside the second character pass.
The fifth wave of DLC, the Film Red Pack, featuring Uta and Film Red versions of Shanks and Koby, was released on January 11, 2024. Furthermore, the second pack of new stages, Koby's Combat Chronicle, as well as a new Soul Map, were released alongside the Film Red character pack.

Story Differences
- In the Dressrosa Arc, Doflamingo severing Law's arm, Luffy knocking out Bellamy, Law using Gamma Knife to attack Doflamingo, and Fujitora arguing with Akainu are omitted in this game.
- Riku Doldo III, Viola, and Rosinante do not appear in this game. During the Dressrosa Arc, Zoro slices Pica when he is attacking Riku. However, in this game, Pica uses statue to attack Zoro. Besides, in the manga, Law uses Counter Shock to kill Doflamingo but is unsuccessful, and he falls down. However, in this game, Law uses Shambles and Scalpel to attack Doflamingo from behind.
- In the Whole Cake Island Arc, Flampe is replaced with a Chess Soldier, who shoots Luffy with the Numbing Needle instead.
Game Changes
- Pre-timeskip Nami, Chopper, Robin, Franky, and Brook are no longer playable during the main story.
- Enel, Gecko Moria, Perona, Magellan, Bartholomew Kuma, and Caesar Clown, who were playable in the previous games have been cut from this game. Moria, Kuma, and Caesar, however, have cameo appearances in cutscenes and in certain battle scenarios.
- At launch, Monkey D. Garp, who was playable in Pirate Warriors 2 and 3, was just an enemy character. However, with DLC, his status as a playable character was restored.
- Morgan, Alvida, Kuro, Krieg, Arlong, Hatchan, Wapol, Wyper, Hannyabal, Minotaurus, Oars, Hody Jones, Vergo, and Monet, who were enemy characters in previous games, have been cut. Some of these characters have cameo appearances in cutscenes.

- This is the first time in the franchise Kid is seen using Haoshoku Haki.
