Synopsis[]

Chapter 1[]

Nervous School Arc (ビクビク学校編, Bikubiku Gakkō-hen?)
Chopper walks to his first day of first grade, excited to make lots of friends. However, upon seeing all the human students in the school, he gets scared and hides behind a tree. He is noticed by Luffy, who points out that he's hiding the wrong way, then exclaims that he's never seen a talking tanuki before. Deciding that school is too scary for him, Chopper begins to run away, but is chased by Luffy. He turns a corner and dons a disguise of a principal, which, to his shock, Luffy falls for, and directs the boy to the cafeteria, claiming the tanuki ran that way.

Reaching the cafeteria, Luffy finds the cook, Alvida, and wonder if there's a tanuki in the kitchen. However, she misunderstands his question as calling her a tanuki, and hits him over the head; recovering, Luffy begins to eat the prepared food, angering Alvida further and causing her to throw him to the ground. Luffy wonders where the tanuki went as Chopper watches from outside the cafeteria, deciding that school really is too scary for him.

Returning to the courtyard, Chopper tries to sneak out of school, but crashes into Buggy, who shatters into a bunch of pieces. Mohji and Cabaji yell at him for hurting Buggy, but to Chopper's shock, he simply reforms. The two students continue to yell, but Buggy misunderstands their threats as calling his nose "big and red", so he beats them to the ground; as Chopper watches in shock, Buggy then decides to teach him a lesson, and his entire group begins to chase Chopper. They quickly catch up to him and throw him to the ground, surrounding him.

Leaving the cafeteria after a good meal, Luffy exits into the courtyard, wondering where the tanuki went. He hears a scream for help from outside the school wall, and runs over to find Buggy and his group harassing Chopper. He angrily demands to know why they're hurting his friend, to Chopper's surprise, who is reassured that they're friends because they played tag together.

Buggy orders his men to charge Luffy, but they're instantly defeated, to Buggy's shock. He declares that he's enough to beat Luffy by himself, but is similarly defeated in a single attack. Chopper thanks Luffy for helping him and for becoming his friend, and Luffy suggests continuing their game of tag, despite Chopper's protests.

Chapter 2[]

Pirate Club Captain Luffy Arc (海賊部のキャプテン・ルフィ編, Kaizoku-bu no Kyaputen Rufi-hen?)
Chopper walks into school, and is greeted by Nami, a teacher. She encourages him to be a good student and pets him, flustering Chopper. Nami then enters the school, and Chopper is approached by Buggy and his friends, who were watching the interaction, and they challenge Chopper to a wrestling match. As Cabaji and Mohji forcefully convince Chopper to agree, Luffy arrives, asking to join as well. As he charges up, however, Buggy's group is knocked away by his recklessness, leaving just Luffy and Chopper.

With the other kids gone, Luffy grabs Chopper and pulls him to a bush in a back corner of the school. He says "mountain" and the bush responds "river", to Chopper's surprise, and Luffy jumps into it, pulling Chopper in as well. Inside, they find themselves in a cave full of skulls and treasure, and at Chopper's confusion, Luffy explains that they're in a pirate base. He sits down next to Usopp, in front of a Straw Hat Pirates Jolly Roger, and Usopp asks who Luffy brought with him.

Seeing Chopper's continued confusion, Usopp explains that they make up the pirate club, in which Luffy is the captain and Usopp is the first mate. When Chopper asks if they're only two members, Luffy notes that he now counts Chopper as part of the club, making them three, and Usopp congratulates Chopper on joining the club.

Elsewhere, in a rundown alley, Buggy and his group sit dejected. Buggy swears to get his revenge on Luffy, promising to not forgive him.

Back in the pirate club, they receive a request for a duel from Buggy, exciting Luffy and Usopp. They immediately rush to accept the challenge, pulling Chopper along despite his protests.

The two groups meet, and to Chopper's shock, prepare to play a game of baseball, the true form of the duel. Batting first, all three members of Buggy's team hits home runs; however, each time before the balls landed, Luffy stretched out his arm to catch them high in the air, quickly ending Buggy's team's turn at bat. On the pirate club's team, Luffy began the batting, immediately insulting Buggy's nose. Angrily, Buggy pitches a hard ball instead of a baseball, with everyone assuming Luffy would be unable to hit it; however, Luffy uses Gomu Gomu no Fusen to bounce the ball, achieving a home run.

While the two teams cheer for and are depressed over the home run, the ball flies into the school, shattering a window. Nami runs out into the courtyard, furious and with a large bump on her head. Chopper is scared that she's angry, but Luffy tells him that she actually just likes playing tag with them, though he doesn't know why. Believing him, Chopper and Luffy begin to run away, as Nami notices Chopper's presence; she questions why even he's getting up to trouble, but he reassures her that he'll work hard in the pirate club and become a good student. Nami then trips, falling forward, and the pirate club members laugh as they run away.

As they run, a flag of the Straw Hats' Jolly Roger flies above the school.
