One Piece Wiki

    2. Personality

    11. Other Appearances(if applicable)
    12. Trivia(if applicable)
    13. References(please, everyone: GIVE REFERENCES)
    14. Site Navigation
  • Appropriate categories must be filled in for said characters.
  • All subsections must be filled in with the appropriate information, and references should be given appropriately and reasonably.
    • Do not just create a subsection title leave it completely empty: place {{Empty section}} if the required information is unknown.
    • If a mandatory subsection (such as personality) lacks information, then it should state so (i.e. "[This character] has yet to make an appearance" or "Nothing is known about [this character]'s personality").

Splitting a Page[]

  • Character articles that have reached a limit of 100,000 characters (or "bytes"), are required to be split.
    • To start, the character's history section should be removed and placed in a subpage titled "<Character Name>/History".
      • If the remainder of the character's page still exceeds 100,000 characters, then the page should be split into three additional subpages: in the order of Personality and Relationships, Abilities and Powers, History, and Misc. (includes Major Battles, Trivia, and all behind-the-scenes sections), with only the character's introduction and Appearance sections remaining on the main article.
        • If any of these subpages exceed 100,000 characters on their own, further action should be discussed on the talk page.
  • To prevent the infobox and navibox template codes from taking up space on each of the split pages, they should be put into two templates. The first template should be called Template:<Character> Tabs Top and contain the infobox as well as tabs linking to the other subpages. The next template should be called Template:<Character> Tabs Bottom and contain the Site Navigation section (do not insert the foreign language links or article categories in this). The first template should go at the top of the character's article, while the second should go on the bottom where the Site Navigation section would normally be.
    • To borrow the code and formatting for the Tabs Top Template, see here for a two-way split page and see here for a five-way split page.
    • A Tabs Bottom Template should look like this.
  • Categories should only be included on the character's main page. Subpages should not have categories except for Category:Character Subpages.

Character Status[]

  • A character's status is to be considered Alive if they are last shown alive in a canon non-flashback scene, or by default if none of the criteria for Unknown or Deceased are met.
  • A character's status is to be considered Unknown if one or more of the following criteria is met:
    • This is stated by an objective canon source (e.g. Narration, SBS or a databook).
    • This is stated by a character whose statement can be considered reliable.
    • They are last seen in a flashback taking place several decades ago, but it is reasonably possible for them to remain alive in the present day.
      • This criteria should take into account the character's age, health, and traits at the time of the flashback (for example, an 80-year-old giant is expected to be alive after 50 years while an 80-year-old human is not so likely).
    • They are last seen in a scenario where their death appears reasonably likely, but not entirely obvious.
  • A character's status is to be considered Deceased if one or more of the following criteria is met:
    • This is stated by an objective canon source (e.g. Narration, SBS or a databook).
    • This is stated by a character whose statement can be considered reliable.
    • They are last seen in a flashback taking place so many decades ago that it is unrealistic for them to remain alive in the present day.
    • They are last seen in a scenario where their death is made obvious.
  • A character is NOT to be considered unknown or deceased for the following reasons:
    • They are defeated in a fight and knocked unconscious.
    • Their status is only stated in non-canon material (excluding non-canon characters).
    • They are last seen in a flashback taking place an insignificant number of years ago given their age and health.
    • They do not appear in the story for a while.
  • In the case of contradictions, see the Canon Hierarchy. In the case of differing interpretations between editors, a talk page discussion should be used to resolve the dispute.
  • Avoid making hasty changes to a character's status based on sudden, single-panel cliffhanger events. Oda has frequently utilized these only to show in later chapters that the true causes and effects of the event were quite different than we were originally made to think.

Relationships Guidelines[]

  • Relationships sections detail how two characters, or a character and a group, feel about each other. They are not intended to simply recount interactions between these characters; all recaps of interactions and events must be in the context of how they influenced the characters' relationship, or how they were driven by the relationship. For example, saying "Luffy hates Blackbeard for capturing Ace, and so attacked him when the two met in Impel Down" is good, while "Luffy and Blackbeard once fought in Impel Down" is not.
  • Noting similarities and differences between characters is not appropriate for this section, unless they are a confirmed result of the relationship. While Garp noted that Ace had much in common with his father, he made clear that these were coincidental as Ace hated his father and did not want to emulate him.
  • All speculation is prohibited, including theorizing how two characters who have not been shown interacting might view each other because of a family connection or because of the implications of certain personality traits. All observations about how one character views another must be grounded in clear examples with references.

History Guidelines[]

  • History sections are written in past tense.
  • History sections capture most of the actions a character does, but a sequence of minor actions should usually be condensed together to prevent bloat. For example, if Luffy goes on a rampage and defeats enemy hordes several different times, it would be better to say "Luffy went on a rampage and defeated several enemy hordes" rather than giving a full recap of how he defeated each horde, unless the battles or opponents are notably different from each other.
  • What a character says should only go in their history section if it is the cause of or contributes to a major event (such as Roger telling everyone about his treasure, or Luffy declaring war against Big Mom). Recaps of what someone says should be a brief summary of the statement rather than a verbatim quotation.
  • If a character is not directly involved in an event, it should not go in their history section. This includes something happening that they caused (unless they are there to see it), and other characters doing things as a result of their actions or status. At the most, a quick statement about the event can be added if the character finds out about it or takes action as a result of it.
    • For example, since Zeff did not know about Germa 66's threatened assassination of him, their plotting does not go into his history section.
    • The sole exception to this is in the "Legacy" section for deceased characters, as it covers the effects of the character's death on others, although this section should only be a short recap.
