One Piece Wiki

One Piece has been licensed in North America by several companies. Each company deals with a different type of media that has been translated into English.

  • 4Kids Entertainment used to dub the One Piece anime. Their license was dropped and it has since been picked up by Funimation Entertainment.
  • Funimation is the company that currently has the rights to the One Piece anime. They also sell merchandise related to it, but it is mostly handled by Bandai America.
  • Bandai America is the company that mostly handles the One Piece merchandise. This includes figures and and video games.
  • VIZ Media is the company that currently has the rights to the One Piece manga in North America.

Pilot Dubs[]

Prior to 4Kids' licensing of the anime, at least three English-dubbed pilots were produced for Toei Animation.[1] Two of these were produced by Ocean Productions (one of which was done by their budget studio Bluewater Studios[2]), while the third was produced by Funimation. The Ocean Productions in-house version included a unique dub of We Are! and Hanna-Barbera-esque sound effects.[1]

The Funimation version covered Episode 3, the Ocean Productions version covered Episode 55, and the Bluewater Studios version covered Episode 18.

Likely due to being early translations, the pilot dubs include changes not present in any later translations of One Piece.[1]
