The Rainbow Eye is the secret treasure of Rainbow Island. It appears in Legend of the Rainbow Island, in which it acts as a central MacGuffin.[1]

Appearance[]

The Rainbow Eye is a small rainbow ball floating in a larger, clear ball. Between the two balls, electrical sparks fly, connecting the two.

Seal[]

To open the seal surrounding the Rainbow Eye, one must collect the three emblems (, akashi?), combine them into one, and say the three "Quest Words" (クエストワード, Kuesuto Wādo?). In addition, one with royal blood must present the "Scripture" (聖句, Seiku?).

The three emblems are:

  • The Fisherman's Emblem (海人の証, Ama no Akashi?) - Passed down by a Rainbow Island survivor family, eventually to Dias.
  • The King's Emblem (王の証, Ō no Akashi?) - Passed down by the Rainbow Island royal family, eventually to Atoli.
  • The Sage's Emblem (賢者の証, Kenja no Akashi?) - Passed down by a Rainbow Island survivor family, eventually to Drayke.

The Quest Words are oaths the user makes to the emblem; to "live like a" king, fisherman, or sage. Once all three Quest Words are said to one of the emblems, it will show the way to Rainbow Island. However, despite the seeming simplicity, the Quest Words are specific terms that must be said:

  • "Kindness"
  • "Courage"
  • "Freedom"

Upon fulfilling various conditions, emblems can begin to glow. An emblem glowing does not cause any outward action, but indicates that the user may have progressed in solving the mystery. The known causes for glowing emblems are:

  • When two emblems are placed close together, they both glow.
  • When the emblem reacts to the user's heart and they get closer to finding a Quest Word. In this case, one of the three swords on the emblem glows, rather than the entire emblem.
    • The hint "to protect", which later evolves into "Don't neglect yourself". In this case, the emblem glowed yellow.
    • The hint "overwhelming strength", which later evolves into "Strength of Heart". In this case, the emblem glowed red.
    • The hint "belief in yourself", which later evolves into "Determination". In this case, the emblem glowed blue.
  • When the user discovers a Quest Word.
  • When the user discovers all three Quest Words, the emblem will begin to glow permanently. In this case, the glow will point towards Rainbow Island, allowing the user to navigate there.

The Scripture was passed down among the royal family as part of a lullaby, and involves whether the speaker has friends.

Abilities[]

Rainbow Eye Floating Ball

The floating ball of electricity.

The one who wields the Rainbow Eye is said to gain the knowledge and strength to take control of the world. It allows the wielder to "see all, and to eliminate all in their path". The Eye can speak for itself, and displays some level of intelligence.

Using the Eye grants the wielder many powers, including the ability to command Rainbow Island's moles, and grants them the knowledge of the previous users, a form of telekinesis, which the Rainbow King using it to attack from a distance, and the ability to create some kind of ball of electricity, which resembles the Rainbow Eye itself.

In the Rainbow King's case, he was able to seal himself in the Rainbow Eye, and possessed the body of the next wielder.

History[]

Past[]

In the distant past, the Rainbow Eye was used by the Rainbow King to peacefully rule over Rainbow Island.

After Rainbow Island was raided by pirates, the Rainbow Eye was sealed by the Rainbow King, with himself inside it.

Legend of the Rainbow Island[]

After Drayke undid the seal on the Rainbow Eye, he attempted to use it, but was instead possessed by the sealed Rainbow King.

Once the Rainbow King was defeated and the possession was cancelled, the Rainbow Eye selected Dias to be the next Rainbow King. However, he refused, and the Straw Hats explained to the Eye that its knowledge ultimately caused more harm than good. To ensure it never falls into evil hands again, they decided to throw the Eye in the ocean, where it can be lost forever.
