One Piece Wiki

The Rako Rako no Mi[2] is a Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows its user to transform into a sea otter hybrid and a full sea otter at will, making the user a Sea Otter Human (ラッコ人間, Rakko Ningen?, VIZ: "Otter-Man"). It was eaten by Pomsky.

Etymology[]

  • "Rako" is short for Rakko (ラッコ?), the Japanese word for sea otter.

Strengths and Weaknesses[]

Like most Zoans, this fruit grants its user enhanced physical capabilities and at least two different transformations: a full sea otter form and a sea otter-human hybrid one. In hybrid form, the user can wield weapons and swing them around with great force.

Despite the fact that the sea otter is a semi-aquatic animal, the user is presumably still vulnerable to sinking, as well as the other main weaknesses common to Devil Fruit users.

Usage[]

The fruit's bestowed powers, as used by Pomsky, have been used primarily for combat.

Techniques[]

  • Rakko Hammer (ラッコハンマー, Rakko Hanmā?, "Sea Otter Hammer"): While in his hybrid form, Pomsky uses his maul to strike down at the opponent.[1] In the VIZ manga and Crunchyroll adaptations, this is called Otter Hammer.

Trivia[]

Pomsky's transformed appearance in the anime.

Pomsky's transformed appearance in the anime.

  • Although it can walk on land, the sea otter is capable of living exclusively in the ocean. This makes the Rako Rako no Mi similar to Devil Fruits such as the Hebi Hebi no Mi, Model: Anaconda, Sara Sara no Mi, Model: Axolotl and Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Spinosaurus, which are also based on animals with semi-aquatic lifestyles.
  • The anime's depiction of Pomsky's face while transformed erroneously miscolored the fur shown on it, leading to his face appearing nearly identical to his regular appearance, save for a different nose.[3]
