Sasaki is a Headliner and one of the Tobiroppo of the Beasts Pirates.[2] Prior to joining the Beast Pirates, he was the captain of his own crew.

Appearance

Sasaki is a large man who resembles an oni, as he possesses sharp teeth including prominent lower canine teeth. He has long, wild light hair that reaches to the middle of his back, as well as curved horns jutting upward from the front of his head, though its possible that these are a part of his outfit.

Sasaki's wardrobe appears to consist of a unique midground between traditional Japanese clothing and attire associated with a soldier or dictator. He wears cap, similar to that of a sailor or military official. His torso is uncovered except for a flame patterned cloak with a large collar resembling a seaman's coat. He has a prominent wing-shaped tattoo on his chest, shoulders, upper arms, and back. On his lower body he wears a flame patterned hakama-like article of clothing resembling the bottom portion of a double-breasted trench coat, and a pair of geta sandals on his feet.[2]

Personality

Sasaki appears to be cold, insubordinate and ambitious. According to King, Sasaki aims to become one of the Beasts Pirates All-Stars, and for this reason, he refuses to answer to the current ones, ignoring any attempts of summoning unless Kaido's name is attached to it. He also views his fellow members of the Tobiroppo as competition for his goals, considering them "contenders" at one point and mockingly discouraging both X Drake and Page One from pursuing advancement in the crew, calling the latter dead weight.

He seems to heavily respect and fear Kaido, as he looked forward to receiving a request from him and became serious and shocked when Ulti spoke rudely about their captain.[2] He also has no interest in socializing with those below his rank, being only interested in fraternizing with Kaido. It's implied that Sasaki likes parties since Denjiro thought his presence outside the Golden Kagura was uncharacteristic of him.

Abilities and Powers

As a Headliner in the Beasts Pirates, Sasaki holds a high position in his crew and has authority over the lower-ranking members, and as a member of the Tobiroppo, he also is among the strongest Headliners, with only Kaido and the All-Stars ranking above him.[2]

As a former Pirate Captain, Sasaki used to have full authority over a pirate crew at one point of his life.

Weapons

Sasaki carries what appears to be a katana sword with a tassel decorating the handle in his left hip. It's unknown how proficient he is with it.

History

Past

Sasaki was captain of his own pirate crew before he joined the Beasts Pirates.

Wano Country Arc

Sasaki and the other Tobiroppo members arrived at Onigashima during the Fire Festival. Kaido had them brought into his fortress,[1] and as they waited, they started discussing about which of them would be promoted to All-Star if Queen died. X Drake denied any interest in promotion, and Sasaki gladly accepted his noncompetitive attitude, suggesting that Page One do the same. Sasaki then looked forward to meeting with Kaido after their wait, and reacted with shock along with the other Tobiroppo when Ulti insulted their captain.[2]

When Kaido arrived, he gave them the mission of finding his son Yamato, saying he would let them battle one of the All-Stars for their position if they succeeded.[3] Later, letting his men search for Yamato at the southern side of Onigashima, Sasaki ran into Denjiro whom he still thought to be Kyoshiro, an ally of Orochi's. Thus with Sasaki's guard down, Denjiro managed to have him chained up.[4]

Trivia

  • Sasaki is possibly named after the card game "44A", also known as Sasaki (ササキ?), fitting with the card game-themed names of the Headliners.
  • In Chapter 982, Sasaki is shown with a bottle of sake whose label says 鬼守 (?"demon protect"). This may be a reference to the well-known Japanese Onikoroshi (鬼ころし?, "demon killer") brand of sake, but the meaning is reversed due to Sasaki's allegiance to Onigashima.
